Where to Eat and Drink Around DU This Fall (Whether You Are a Student or Not) | Eater Denver

"Perhaps introducing some DU students to the joys of this cuisine for the first time, Little India delivers authentic and delicious Indian fare, with traditional herbs and spices imported directly from that part of the world. The naan bread is made in a real Tandoor oven, and the exotic samosas, kebabs, curries and more will leave visitors abundantly satisfied. Find this cozy spot just slightly west of campus." - Gigi Sukin

I was in town for a conference and stumbled upon this spot. I tried the chicken biryani, and it was absolutely delicious — full of bold, rich flavors. It was an interesting twist to include green peppers, which isn’t typical in traditional Indian biryani, but it added a nice touch to the overall flavor. The chicken was tender, juicy, and packed with taste. I also really appreciated the thoughtful packaging and the fact that they included cutlery without me having to ask — a small detail, but one that many restaurants overlook.

One of the few restaurants opened at midnight. We ordered potato parantha and paneer parantha.paneer parantha was done very good with chillies and spices and properly done. But aloo parantha was not that great. Not done properly and just had salt. Scope is there tremendous to improve the basic parantha. Saw a couple enjoy tadka dal and paneer curry. May be next time. But full marks to the servers. They attended us very well with smiles even at 12:30 am. Btw they open at 2 am yes that’s right

I ordered food. I had ordered Bhartaa Baingan which was very sour and I was getting a bad smell. I had also ordered Chicken wings were very old and a very bad smell was coming from inside the chicken wing. After waking up in the morning I had diarrhea and my stomach was hurting. This food was like poison for me.

We had such a fantastic experience here! I came with a crew of four friends, and everything from start to finish was wonderful. The food was absolutely delicious... especially the samosas, which were some of the best I’ve ever had. The mango lassi was perfectly refreshing and complemented everything so well 😋 We also tried the chana masala and a variety of other dishes, and everything (including the Nepalese beer!) was excellent. Our server, Sneha, was incredibly friendly and attentive. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and even shared some handwritten travel tips and an itinerary in case we ever visited Nepal... such a thoughtful gesture! All in all, this place is a gem. Great service, amazing food, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic flavors and genuinely kind people. We’ll definitely be back! ❤️‍🔥

I enjoyed the bharta makhani and they were able to make it spicy. Garlic naan is great too. There’s a paid parking lot on the same street.

We visited Little India Restaurant yesterday for lunch and had an absolutely wonderful experience! The staff, a young lady and a young man, were both amazing, warm, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. We ordered the biryani and butter chicken, and both dishes were outstanding. The biryani was flavorful and aromatic, perfectly cooked with just the right amount of spice. The butter chicken was rich, creamy, and packed with authentic flavor, easily one of the best we’ve had! Great food, fantastic service, and a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for delicious Indian cuisine with exceptional hospitality. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
I came here for the lunch buffet and thought the food was decent for the price. It was relatively fresh and didn’t taste like it had been in a warmer all day. If I had one complaint, it would be that the meal seemed pretty Americanized and there wasn’t nearly enough spice for my taste. The staff were really friendly.

Google
One of the only places still open when I get off of work and it always hits the spot. Foods great, service is friendly and prompt, never had my order wrong and the prices aren’t bad. It’s become my comfort food.

Yelp
We ordered take out from this amazing restaurant and wanted to share what we ordered because it was very delicious. 1. The Punjabi samosas 2. The chicken tikka masala was perfect 3. Dal Makhani 4. Saag Paneer 5. Papadam (chip like) 6. Mango chutney (sauce) 7. Vegetable Biryani

Yelp
Ordered takeout from Little India Restaurant! Super easy to place the order and it was ready quick. Opening garlic naan was insane. Smelled so good and tasted amazing!! Highly recommend trying. The chicken curry was a spicy level and it was one of the hottest curries I've ever had. Flavor was phenomenal and I'd order it again, but at a lower spice level. Great portion for price, and I had leftovers. Walking into the restaurant, there were plenty of tables and seems like a great spot for a casual lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Overall, I liked the ambiance and service was fast and friendly. The Momos and naan were fantastic. The chicken saag and lamb Rogan Josh were very good as well, however the spice level was definitely more than we had bargained for and made it difficult to eat a lot at once. I learned my lesson to specifically ask for no spice rather than mild spice when I get Indian food! I'd come back to try the same things we ordered again and see if they can bring the spice level down more upon request. Prices were also a bit high, but it's in downtown Denver so that's to be expected.

Yelp
Food - the food was fine. Not outstanding but just fine. The Captain Mango was really good though. Service - the service was quite slow and they seemed short staffed perhaps. It took a while to place our order, much longer to get our food, and I had to go find someone to ask for the bill. Ambiance - it was a nice little spot. Plenty of tables and lots of interesting murals on the walls.

Yelp
At first glance the meal looks great but the taste is mid or should I say meh. I feel like it needs more spices. I am from California and we have a spot that makes a one of a kind biryani. I say one of a kind because I cannot find a location that makes a better biryani as of 20240912. I would love to come back and try the butter chicken and see how the flavor compares to what I am use too. I would definitely add that the service was good and friendly on this first visit to little India in downtown.

Yelp
The cocktails took a minute but our food was delicious. The Naan was perfection. We let the waitress pick one our dishes and she did an amazing job. Will return when in the area.

Yelp
I'll get right to it. The food here is great! Try their Chicken65. It's boneless chicken that's so full of flavor! I could lick offthe plate clean! ‍ For our entry we shared the Shish-kebob and Lamb Saag. The former was loaded with flavor! The latter? The lamb was tender and the portions were great. So tasty! Both dishes came with rice. I got my Mango Lassi for free because I checked in on Yelp! I like my lassi thick and not too sweet. This fits the bill perfectly! We also had an order of naan. The service was awesome! Friendly and polite. Everything was cooked fresh and served piping hot. I like this place. So I don't understand the low rating. I know they could use some colors on their walls. They need to somehow brighten those walls or decorate it with colorful stuff. They have a good-sized patio. Try them if you're in the area. You might end up loving this place!

Yelp
Three strikes you are out! The first time I went here the waiter was so rude and the buffet wasn't great. Twice I decided to give it another try. Showed up at 11am for the lunch buffet both times. They were closed. Customers were knocking on the door and the staff angrily came out and told us to come in. I left both times and won't return. There is a competitor the next street over with much better food and service.
google avatar

Sumita M.

Yelp
Nope!! Wanted to try their sizzler, which had fish, shrimp, chicken, drumsticks, lamb, and beef kebab. Fish was bland and lacked flavor and the beef kabab was burnt. Shrimp was stale!!

Vicky S.

Yelp
Absolutely disgusting! Found a cockroach in my food when I ordered takeout on 8/15. So nasty! I called the restaurant to complain, said they would check the order I placed on DoorDash, and never called me back. Horrible service - don't eat here unless you want BUGS IN YOUR FOOD!
google avatar

Austin S.

Yelp
I ordered delivery for the Chicken Tikka Masala. $19 and it was pretty much just watery flavorless sauce, barely any chicken in it! Insanely poor quality for the price!

Steven D.

Yelp
Best Saag Paneer ever. Chicken Tiki Masala was also excellent. Service was very fast and atmosphere was pleasant. Had an Indian beer (Old Monk 10000) which I had never tried before; it was quite good. Highly recommended Indian restaurant if you are in Denver.
google avatar

Yelp
Great Indian food at a reasonable price! I started w/the veggie momos as an appetizer, then had garlic cheese naan w/my chicken vindaloo. Everything was very good, and I'd definitely go back!

Yelp
This is a good place for tasty Indian food, which is not unnecessarily spicy or hot. The dishes are made flavorful with balanced spice level. We tried Chicken Jalfrezi and Saag Paneer with Tandoori Roti, Raita and Rice. We had Chardonnay that paired well with this food. We also tried mango lassi, and capped gulab jamun for dessert. The place is reasonably priced. Service was good, even though they seemed to be slammed with to-go orders, but the staff was attentive of the needs of people dining in. Definitely a place to come back and try some of the other items on their menu. They can make the place better looking by changing the lights in dining area, and make it bit brighter.

Yelp
After placing a to go order at Little India on Champa street the woman who took my order brought over a surprise with a smile. Chadani set a cup of creamy, rich, chai tea that was the perfect temperature for the chilly winter evening as I waited for their insanely delicious Garlic naan and Alu Naan. Thank you for the kindness on a cold evening; the tea warmed my hands and my heart. I will definitely be back to dine in soon.

Rita H.

Yelp
The food was really tasty and they had a good amount of options. Service was prompt, and the prices were reasonable.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
I ordered mutter paneer & chicken tikka masala for takeout and was disappointed. The chicken was very dried out to the point I was not able to eat it, and the chunks of paneer were incredibly rubbery. Although the curry sauces both had nice flavor, I ended up needing to eat around the protein, which seemed like a waste of money. The curries were very rich. I may give Little India another shot once they open up for dine-in, but would not order takeout again.

Derek K.

Yelp
brief summary: the food is not awful, but it is the worst Indian restaurant I've been to. Everything I had was below par: papadum was salty, chili chicken was salty, butter chicken was bland, tikka masala had a nice nutty flavour, but was definitely not masala, saag paneer was slimy and not minced or seasoned properly. To top it off, the service is terrible. had to wait about an hour for our food. Don't waste you time, go somewhere else!!!

Joe V.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere. Best Indian cuisine in the city!!

Misha M.

Yelp
Food was phenomenal. Service was great. The staff is very courteous. The chicken ginger kebab was beyond our expectation and the spice lives up to the hype! Highly recommend this place to locals and visitors looking for great Indian/Nepali food!

Lizzy L.

Yelp
The food was good, but the service was better! The people were SO nice and friendly. We came in only a few minutes before closing (without knowing) and they welcomed us with open arms. The restaurant itself was very clean and well decorated. Overall great experience!

Yelp
The skinny: Decent Indian food in downtown with a pretty good lunch buffet. Atmosphere: Decent sized spot with table tops and a bar. They have a small section in the back for the lunch buffet. Came here for lunch on a Friday and did not have to wait. Having it be a buffet allowed us to come in and out pretty quickly - which is great for lunch during work days. Food: good selection for the buffet, had a variety of meats and vegetarian options. Buttered chicken, pakora, and saag paneer with the rice were my favorites. Has most of the run of the mill dishes (no chicken tikka masala for people who are really into that). Not the most amazing Indian food I've had but pretty decent for what you get. Service: Friendly service. Towards the end of the meal it was a bit difficult to flag someone down to get our bill paid but nothing too bad. Price/Value: $-$$ Great value for lunch buffet (10.99) They also always have coupons that you can find (back of king soopers receipts, online, yelp has a checkin free drink) Would I come back: Yes for the lunch buffet. It's a pretty good deal with lots of variety.

Yelp
Visited on a Saturday night. After leaving another Indian restaurant a block away because of menu selection and service, we came here. Great lively atmosphere and welcoming environment. Menu had all the typical choices and then some. Most importantly, they served my three meat biryani with lamb, chicken and shrimp. We ordered our main entrees and a couple of appetizers and garlic naan also. The apps were delicious. Our main dishes came out and my anticipation was high. While the biryani had all the ingredients of a complete dish, it was lacking in FLAVOR! It was spicy without being flavorful. It was a really odd combination and I kept trying the dish from different spots hoping that I could find the flavor. Garlic naan was wonderful with the grated garlic on top. Overall I'd recommend based on the quality of all our collective dishes and outstanding service. Just slightly underwhelming for my personal favorite dish and the taste I've come to enjoy. It was not it.

Yelp
We waited 30 minutes for a drink. The food took a long time. They didn't honor happy hour prices because we didn't point to the happy hour menu, charged us double. The restaurant was filthy from the tables not bused to the outside patio. We do not recommend this restaurant to anyone

Yelp
When visiting downtown denver and super hungry I stubbled upon this place. When I first walked in there were lots of people which typically means that there's good potential. They were offering a lunch buffet - all you can eat for $10.99 - yes please. I filled up my plate with all the goods- I wanted to experience as much as I could as I truly appreciate Indian spices & flavors. Nothing was beyond great but nothing was terrible. My favorite was the chickpea battered fried vegetables. Also, one of the guys made me a special hot sauce that was really delish. Would come back and would recommend, especially if your looking for a warm, Indian meal.
google avatar

Kelsey D.

Yelp
Forever one of my favorite spots in Denver and favorite Indian restaurants in general! I live in Houston, but make sure to come here every time I am in Denver!
google avatar

Kaylee M.

Yelp
This is my go to restaurant anytime I want Indian food. If you love spicy food, you can request they make whatever you order Spacey which is awesome for me. The NAAN with garlic or cheese is absolutely addicting and my go to order is either Liam SAAG or William KORMA, which is great if you want some thing creamy and a little sweet. I have almost always ordered for pick up and the food is packaged well and is still warm by the time I get home. The rice that comes with you order mix whatever I get enough food for two meals so I get great value from my order. I highly recommend this place especially if you live or work in the downtown area
google avatar

Yelp
I've been frequenting Little India because of it's location downtown and the lunch buffet option. Hands down better than the other option a block away, not to take anything away from another establishment but Little India is solid. Customer service is wonderful and they have a nice bar area. Pros: Good staples like Aloo Gobi, Saag, Butter Chicken - executed well. The hot food items are all good, naan is average. Service is really good, I don't think it gets much better for a lunch buffet. Cons: Buffet area gets messy, not sure if that's Little India or the people who eat here but a saucy handle is a little off-putting. I've had this problem both times. If you like Indian food and you're downtown, this is your spot!
google avatar

Shifa A.

Yelp
Meh! Since Union lodge doesn't serve any food or apps and we were starving, we decided to go next door to get a few appetizers. Neat restaurant and the sitar player was very good. We decided to get the masala pakoda and the chicken 65. A classic lemon drop drink and the desk tadka drink. The lemon drop tasted very very dilute and the desk tadka was interestingly unpalatable. I wish we ordered the vegetable pakoda instead as the masala pakoda had what tasted like chicken curry?!? The 65 was okay and forgettable. With Indian food it can be a hit or a miss if you don't order the right things. All in all, it's an average Indian restaurant with a full bar.
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
Really good food. Nice small restaurant with a Huge taste. I had the Korma chicken and naan. The taste is very authentic and fulfilling. High recommend visiting this restaurant if your looking for good Indian food. Reasonable prices as well
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
Have been getting this as take-out ever since quarantine started. The food here is pretty good! I usually get the lamb bhuna, and it's great every time. They give an excessive amount of rice with your to-go order, which is nice. Their samosas and accompanying chutneys are amazing! Flavors and cook are on point! The butter chicken is also a frequent order for our household... as is the mango lassi.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Little India is Devine. Speaking mostly for the food. I ordered food for delivery the first time and the second time I went and ate at the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is a little subpar. But the FOOD is Ah-mazing! The food- I ordered the buttered chicken the first time with naan. The flavors were incredible. The second time I ordered the kabli naan and the chicken jalfrazie. Again the flavors were incredible. The portions are large and worth what you pay for in my opinion. I had leftovers both times. The staff/restaurant- So there was only one person working the dining area when I was there. The order took a while to get to me and she took a while to come check on me. However, it was all worth it because I was able to enjoy the food and my time for the afternoon. I didn't feel rushed at all. There were dirty dishes on the table next to me the entire time I was there. Not sure why they weren't taken away. It was just a little unappealing while I was eating. Downtown is hard to find parking but I did think it was worth the hassle. I'd totally go again. But might be more open to delivery just because the atmosphere is not all that appealing inside the restaurant. The food is worth it though.
google avatar

Kenneth R.

Yelp
I came in with a colleague for the lunch buffet: $10.99 for whatever you wanted from the buffet table. Because the food was tasting A-OK, I checked in on Yelp to help me remember to review the establishment. An alert popped up: I could choose between a free glass of wine or a free mango lassi, just for checking in! I showed my Yelp app to our server, who said that she needed to take my phone to her manager because she was unfamiliar with this Yelp bonus. That was fine, but then the manager returned my phone with Yelp now displaying a draft review for Little India for five stars already punched in. WTF?! There was a clear quid pro quo: finish the review if you want to see your mango lassi. Only POTUS would describe this as a perfect lunch. The best thing that I can say about the situation is that Rudy Giuliani did not show up to help me finish my review. Seriously, this was one of the most outrageous and unpleasant encounters that I've ever had with a business in connection with Yelp. I promptly put my phone back in my pocket and said to the manager that I'd complete my review later -- using a laptop. The mango lassi didn't show up, and we left the premises.
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
We really love this place. The buffet is always yummy good. They recently remodeled and it feels more open and spacious. We have tried most of the menu at some point or other and never found anything we don't like. Chicken tikka Masala Chicken korma Garlic naan Veg curry Samosa Onion badji Paneer Masala Dal soup Chili chicken Etc etc etc Service is good but not award winning. They have a limited wine selection and they serve you quickly. We've never had a long wait here. The portions are a good size, the location is great for downtown but parking can be rough certain times of the day. They do a huge take out business too so if you don't want to drive, order take out.
google avatar

Seoyoen M.

Yelp
SERVED MEAT TO A VEGETARIAN! It's so sad for me to write this review since it used to be my favorite Indian restaurants in Denver. However, their mistake was just unforgivable and how they handled the situation was also not acceptable. I brought my vegetarian friend to this restaurant and ordered veggie momos for apps and after waiting almost an hour for an appetizer the brought out chicken momos saying that they are veggies. We waited so long and being hungry we dived in and ate. However, my friend tasted chicken so I called the waiter to check and turns out they were chicken. They offered to make veggie momos to go and so we said yes to that. I assumed they would take this off from our check later however they fully charged for that appetizer anyways. The entire meal came out way too late that we had to rush and get our meals to go. Paid full price for everything and no sincere apologies for their mistakes. Will never go back.
google avatar

K D.

Yelp
Delicious food and very covid safe. Our server, Pawan was super kind. Definitely recommend trying the sky bread. There were plenty of vegetarian choices ad well

Parisa T.

Yelp
Excelent indian food ever :) Their chicken tikka masala was awesome! We ate the whole thing and each spoon we take , feels like heavenlove it Plus smell delicious here
google avatar

Shelbie R.

Yelp
I went here before seeing a show at the Jester's Palace next door and it was absolutely phenomenal. My friend and I shared the Punjabi Samosas, while she had the tandoori chicken and I had the chicken tikka masala. I was expecting the place to be packed for a Friday night, but man it was like a small secret heaven for us, it was quiet and peaceful with a very soothing ambiance of warm lighting and music in the background. The service was excellent with people checking in on us consistently, and it felt very cozy. The food was absolutely phenomenal and it couldn't get any better. If you're looking for an Indian restaurant to fill your cravings or to try Indian food for the first time, I cannot recommend little India enough!! (P.S. get the samosas, you won't regret it)

Noelle L.

Yelp
Harry at this place (the bartender) is so sweet and made our experience absolutely wonderful. The food is out of the this world and they have a $15.99 buffet everyday with great food. Cocktails and food 10/10 would recommend.

Greg M.

Yelp
The few negative comments? What kind of entitlement. This was GREAT INDIAN FOOD! The saag paneer, tandoori, masala, everything was just a great example of Indian food. The chicken 65 that is in many photos was so, so good. Easily one of my favorite Indian places ever and that is even with my roommate Carthic who made some pretty god food.
google avatar

Edward I.

Yelp
the reviews are valid! They do not appreciate the business, horrible service and they do not care if you return!

Arvin M.

Yelp
Please Please avoid this Indian Restaurant Food tasted terrible - Too Too Hot Very pricey Uncooked

Yelp
MMMMMMMMMM! Came to Denver for work and stayed at the Courtyard Marriott and this restaurant was perfect for dinner for us! We had one vegetarian out of us, and one Indian food Newbie, and it was great! We ordered Naan, chicken tikka masala, Aloo Gobi, and Channa Masala. Yum. My coworker had to come back here to work for a few more weeks, and any time I texted her to see what was for dinner, 9/10 times, her answer was Little India. Overall, the restaurant was following all Covid safety guidelines. Beer menu was two thumbs up!
google avatar

Balaji K.

Yelp
Excellent service. Excellent food made with care and attention. The lamb vindaloo had a distinctive taste and was out of the world spicy. The chicken tikka was great. The garlic naan was very well done. The malai kofta was creamy. The meat dishes had a good savory overtone on top of the spices and flavoring giving an indication of the finesse of marinating the meat!!!

Yelp
Amazing delish food :) very tasty ! We had their chicken tikka masala and we loved it ! The staff are friendly as well! We definitely come back :))

Yelp
After a long day hiking at the Rockies, we finally drove back to our hotel looking for something to eat. We found this little Indian restaurant with good reviews and not too far away from our hotel, so we decided to check it out. At first when we entered there were some live music from one guy playing some sort of guitar. The menu looked great, and prices were reasonable. As an appetizer, we got the masala pakora, sauce was really good. Then Fiancé decided to get some saag paneer while I got the combination curry that had lamb, chicken, and shrimp. The saag paneer was very tasteful, a good amount of paneer in the bowl. The curry I ordered, I wanted to get a 9/10 in spice. I also asked for additional spice sauce on the side Incase I wanted to make it spicier. The lamb, chicken, and shrimp all tasted great, it was enough spicy that I was both sweating and can still taste the curry. The only thing I didn't like was there was only 2 shrimps, but it's understandable. Overall, good here is great. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for Indian food.
google avatar

Rose B.

Yelp
In town for a work conference and stopped in for lunch. The outside and inside decor needs a bit of TLC but other than that the food was Delicious. I ordered the Punjabi Somosa, Nan and the Paneer Mahkni. Fresh and made to order. I recommend this place if you are in the area and love Indian food!

Bidhya K.

Yelp
Nice place to hang out with friends . The foods is really good with varieties of flavor. I recommend everyone to visit once.

Yelp
Little India is the perfect place to go for some authentic Indian food. I will admit it's not my #1 Indian restaurant in the Denver area, but it's up there! What I like about this little place is you can go to their lunch buffet for $9.99 in the week, or come in the evening to order off the menu. The lunch buffet is good, but their hidden treasures come out at night from their dinner menu. The Chicken Korma is sweet and tasty, and their Chicken Tikka curry is a hit! If your near downtown and want a filling meal, this is the place to come.
