We have gone to Little India many times over the last 14 years. During those 14 years, we have also had takeout on Valentine's Day. Usually, it is our family of four. However, this time we had family in town and had a reservation for six at 6:45. We arrived early at 6:20. We were immediately seated. We waited until 7:00, 40 minutes, as no one had come to the table. I asked a staff member, and they were surprised we still needed a staff member to come to our table. A waiter arrived and informed us he thought someone else was helping our table. He did apologize, but I am not sure how this can happen.
Once the waiter came, we immediately placed our order for appetizers, dinner and drinks. We ordered two lassis, three chai teas and an iced tea. The chai teas came in about ten minutes. The iced tea and lassis took another ten minutes. Between the time the iced tea and lassis arrived and 8:00, we were still waiting for someone to come to our table. This was about 40 minutes. Our water glasses, along with the chai teas, were long since empty. At 8:05, the appetizers came, over one hour after we ordered. We also asked for refills on water and chai teas. At 8:20, the waiter brought two chai teas. However, we ordered three and he said they were out of chai tea. We told the waiter we had to leave soon and he said, "ok."
At 8:25, we left the restaurant as we had yet to receive our main courses. We were just one of the patrons with this issue. In the area where we were seated, a covered outdoor room with about ten tables, we saw two other tables sit for dinner after us and leave after waiting a considerable amount of time. Also, a couple was seated after ourselves and they received their food.
I called about an hour after we left the restaurant to voice my displeasure. I spoke with the manager. He knew our table the second I called. He apologized and offered to have us come back the next day, and have our meal 1/2 off. I explained I was so upset with the entire experience as this is not something that should happen, ever for any restaurant, much less one that has been around for as long as Little India. In addition, I was still determining if I wanted to go back. As I continued to explain the situation, the manager stated we could come back the next day and he would cover our entire meal. However, I told him we were unable to come back the next day and that our friends were going back home. He continued to say we could come the next day and eat for free. However, I still did not know if we wanted to return after such an ordeal. The manager ended the call by saying he would give us a $100 gift certificate if we could not return on February 15th (Wednesday). After thinking over the situation in the night, it was an embarrassment as we brought our family from out of town, we had our children, one in middle school and the other in high school, waiting to eat and with such an epic level of failure on Little India we decided we can't go back to the restaurant. We understand things happen, but this was at a level that should not be possible for an established restaurant. This was not just ourselves experiencing such a horrible level of service. Others came and left without eating, and everyone in the restaurant appeared annoyed at the lack of service. I don't believe I can go back to Little India.
