They have perfected the Large Order To-Go. Great for a get together with friends. The Buffet is Yummy. The decor is inspirational if you're an art student. Since 1988 they have been here, Hollywood has used their location for the authentic vibe. Order now, Go sit outside, Show your support for a Historical Restaurant... help them thrive, while you can.

Google
This is our favorite Indian restaurant. We have been coming here since the 80’s, when attending Brandeis. Now, our daughter visits , from Bentley. Our son always celebrates his birthday here. The best owners, servers & food!! We hope they will continue to make Waltham a shining star of Massachusetts ! God Bless Little India! Long live Little India! Thank you , for all the memories.

Google
We had the lunch buffet and the food was very good. The quality of the meat was good too. We enjoyed and will go back again:)

Google
The food was wonderful. It was authentic. We lived in England for a year and my wife learned to cook Indian meals from 2 friends. A joy to taste authentic food again. 5 stars, A+, 100%!!

Google
My family has been going to Little India for years now and it’s been a staple for us. We would always go here around Thanksgiving/Winter Break season growing up. The food and staff are amazing. Everything on the menu is good and the buffet is amazing. We always tend to get the chicken tikka masala, sag panir but most recently we went and got the fish pakoras and fish masala and it’s become a new favorite. Please, please, please keep this place alive and well. It’s worth a spot checking out.

Google
My family’s favorite Indian place for years! Nothing like Little India. Delicious and friendly all around. So sad to hear they may be closing. Keep Little India open!

Google
Been coming here for years. I haven't had anything off the menu or from the buffet that wasn't spectacular. The lamb rogan josh is my absolute favorite. Best Indian in the Boston area if you ask me.

Sandra D.

Yelp
Great food and very friendly service. We have ordered takeout from here several times. The butter chicken is very good.

Yelp
My wife and I just moved to Waltham a couple weeks ago, and Moodie Street has long been know for many choices for Indian food. I actually recognize this place, because a little over 30 years ago I also lived here, for about 2 years. During that time I recall Little India was the new Indian spot in the area - and I remember it as being better than the other choices. Buffet is my favorite way of eating this cuisine, and theirs was solid indeed. Now 30-something years later, Little India seems to be the only restaurant on Moodie Street to offer buffet on a Saturday. There is one just down the street that serves buffet on weekdays, but not today. So I tried my luck here for the 2nd time in as many weeks. Mainly because they are serving 2 dishes I generally love: Vegetable Biryani and Chana Kabuli. I was told the biryani has no squash, and has peppers and cauliflower. Also I was happy to learn that the plain naan has no butter - which is the healthier way to make it. The buffet is somewhat overpriced ($20 per person), especially considering the absence of masala tea. On the other hand, since it appears to be the only buffet today I thought I would give it another try. And I am pretty happy I did. Biryani is pretty flavorful and even a little spicy (which is good), and the chana is respectable and tastes fresh. Naan is pretty standard, but not bad at all. Chicken Korma seems good, goat curry and several other popular choices like eggplant, saag paneer, mushroom curry, and samosa are likely to please most people. Gulab jamun and rice pudding are both quite nice. I like little India. I'm happy they are close to home, and I would be happy to come with friends or family. They should provide masala tea, and possibly offer more vegetable items. But they make an effort and should be proud to still be here after 30+ years.

Krystal S.

Yelp
Went here for lunch which was buffet style from 11-2. Was not a large buffet but had just enough options. A mixture of meat with vegetarian options as well. They also had a few Indian dessert that were very delicious. All the food was tasteful.

Jeff K.

Yelp
Fantastic Indian restaurant on Moody St that has been around a long time. My favorite is the Butter Chicken with garlic naan.

Lesley A.

Yelp
Classic lunch buffet (though I wish it were more days), good masala chai, peshwari naan, and laddu.

Shiva M.

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was a kid in the 90's. Celebrated birthdays, graduations, and many other occasions over the decades. The food has always been amazing, the staff always kind. I usually order the chicken mughlai. It's so good and I've never been able to find it anywhere else. So sad to hear they're closing after almost 40 years. So many wonderful memories.

G K.

Yelp
I went back after many years and I really loved the goat curry. I need to go back for more. The place of very nice inside. The service was excellent and friendly. They also had samosas on the lunch buffet that were great. Can't wait to go back

Maureen S.

Yelp
I've tried India restaurants in several states, but none is as good as Little India in Waltham! Their chicken biryani is better than any I've tried elsewhere, and the staff and owners are wonderful!

Seth D.

Yelp
The curries are good but I have 2 issues: * too much chicken in the chicken curries and not enough curry sauce * the curries are more pricy than other Indian places So I often finish my meal hungry and wanting more. I would change ratio of chicken to curry sauce so there's more sauce (and therefore I can eat more rice/naan to get full faster).

Tim B.

Yelp
very impressed with the food quality and the service is excellent. I will return Very authentic atmosphere.

Benjamin K.

Yelp
I'm trying to find more Indian places in my area and this seemed like the most revered. I can see why, as the food was absolutely fantastic and the butter chicken in an incredibly delicious cream sauce. The malai kofta, meat samosas, and garlic naan were great too. One odd thing was that on Grubhub you can't seem to order chicken tikka masala or some other items shown on Yelp, unless I'm missing something. This is a high end place which is also reflected in the prices. I would say this is a great choice if you're in the mood for top quality and authentic Indian food, and don't mind a little splurge.

Curtis J.

Yelp
This place is always empty when I come in the prices are a bit high but they give you a decent size meal. And it always seasoned well I'm not the biggest fan of one of the waiters but other than that this place is delicious.

Wern O.

Yelp
TLDR: Indian classics Really enjoyed my time here on Moody street. Outside is festive with flowers and lights. All your classic Indian dishes are well done. They have alcohol as well including Indian beers. I'm rather fond of Kingfisher. Would definitely come back!

Manjula R.

Yelp
The food, service, and menu are all great. I would particularly recommend the puri and chana masala.

Elizabeth Y.

Yelp
Great takeout meal! We tried the dal tarka, saag paneer, chicken vindaloo, butter chicken, samosas, a few naan and paratha, and pakoras. The pakoras were a little on the dense side and were filled with a sort of starchy filling, as opposed to the vegetable we were expecting. The other food was great--I loved the dal tarka, and the flavors of all the dishes were distinct and delicious together. Overall, I'd recommend Little India for a solid takeout meal. The portions are filling and pretty generous but make great leftovers!

Sana D.

Yelp
Great Indian food with authentic taste. Every dish had its unique flavor. The saag paneer, matar paneer, butter chicken , gajar halwa and the naan basket were amazing. Loved the decor and the ambience of the restaurant. The staff is really passionate about what they are doing which is so welcoming. Looking forward to going back.

Shannon M.

Yelp
Great food! The chicken tikka masala is excellent! Will order again the next time I'm passing through

julia j.

Yelp
Fantastic, they are so nice and the food is delicious. Everyone should go here! Service is great and I will 100% be coming back.

Maura M.

Yelp
Went on a friend's recommendation that this was one of the best Indian food spots around. She was right. The rice kept coming and it was delicious. Lots of menu choices. Pick a Thurs- Sun and enjoy a pleasant summer night strolling down a blocked-off Moody Street, stopping for Lizzy's for ice cream on your way to the car.

Val L.

Yelp
I'll be honest: I never been to this place... This review is about the honesty, integrity and willingness to go the extra mile of the owner of the place. Me and my husband were walking next to the place on Moody St and my husband dropped his drivers license out of the pocket. We were looking around for them on Moody St for about 2 hours. Hours later we gave up and went gone. Next day in the afternoon our doorbell rang. The owner himself drove my husband's driver's license over to us. Integrity, honesty and class!!! Thank you! I have no doubt that person handling thins of this nature this way handles his business same way. We'll definitely be your customers soon! Thank you!

Yelp
096 / 100 - 2018 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. This review is based entirely on my take out experience! Since moving to Boston, I've been craving Indian food. There are some really great places in San Diego that offer fantastic Indian food, so I have been dying to find something like that here. One day, while feeling homesick, my friend offered to get me some take out. We looked on DoorDash together and found Little India. I ordered: - 2-3x Naan - Chicken Makhani (my favorite kind of curry!) They prepared the food on time, which was great, and the delivery guy got it to me quickly. The food was piping hot when I got it, which was great. I LOVE the naan at Little India. I prefer my naan to be fluffy and doughy (I don't like it when it's overcooked and burnt) and Little India nails it every single time. The chicken makhani was decent. Not as good as some of the makhani I've had back home, but good enough to satisfy any hunger or craving that I had. The pricing is the only thing that I am kinda hmmm about, but I feel like this is very typical of most Indian cuisine. Overall a great place to get take out when I don't feel like cooking and/or just want to squat around at home and be a big ol bum.

Yelp
I have been going to Little India on Mody Street in Waltham for many years, both for takeout and to eat at the restaurant. The food is always delicious, and the service is excellent. The environment is very comfortable either sitting inside or in the outdoor restaurant during the warm months. There is a nice selection of beers and wines as well. If you are looking for delicious Indian food, I would highly recommend Little India.

Nina V.

Yelp
Food was great. They have nice shaded outdoor seating and staff are very courteous and friendly. I really appreciate you guys providing great customer service and taking all precautions during these challenging times and making your customers feel comfortable.

Songyi W.

Yelp
I know that they don't have the greatest selection of items as far as a lunch buffet is concerned... however, I really enjoyed every single dish I tried and I thought it's totally worth the $13 that I paid. My fav two dishes were the chicken tikki marsala (Chicken was very tender and the sauce was creamier than others I've tried) and the chickpea dish (in a green sauce - can't remember the actual name). Both tasted so good especially paired with the Nann bread or the veggie saffron rice! I had to go back for a second round even though I was already pretty full. They also had two kinds of dessert - one was a rice pudding and another one was a special donut made with condensed milk (very sweet). Not sure that they would be everyone's cup of tea - interesting to try them nonetheless!!

Moshe C.

Yelp
The food may be good when eaten in place, but not when picked up as a takeaway. Although the drive back home was only 10 minutes, the way they pack the food made it anything but crispy.

Reid F.

Yelp
They have made some improvements, and it's still the best Indian food west of Boston.

Carlos D.

Yelp
Meat Samosa 9/10 Tikka Masala flavour 8/10 Basmanti Rice 10/10 Chicken 1/10. Please cook your chicken fully.

Amanda G.

Yelp
Food was decent - but price and portions options was disappointing for me. The attached photo cost $45 and barely enough for two people. I think that's outlandish since 1/2 of it was bread and rice.

Julia S.

Yelp
Great Indian food! Been coming here for years. The korma is the die for. The staff are wonderful!

Delia B.

Yelp
Excellent food, very nice staff and owner! So much fun to sit outside here with moody street closed down. The garlic naan and lamb spinach are my favorite, I always ask the staff for their favorite dish and it's always a delicious recommendation, they are very patient with people who haven't had Indian food before or rarely plus after having actually spent 2 weeks in India I can say the food here is spot on! And for cocktails, the Pimms Cup is delicious

Yelp
My dad wrote this review and asked me to post it for him. I just returned from Little India, an Indian restaurant at 475 Moody St. Waltham, MA 02453. I was accompanied by some guests who wanted to taste Indian cuisine. We had a most awful experience. Small place with too many tables made us feel claustrophobic. The menu had names of usual North Indian dinner delicacies. We ordered two appetizers; one had only 4 medium size shrimps. The other was a mixed platter; every item on it was over-fried and burned. Called the Manager who offered to replace it; brought a fresh platter which was still over fried and looked very dark. The very look was repulsive. Nobody touched it. We ordered Puri, Tandoor (bread, Lamb Roganjosh and Navaratna Korma. Only the Puri and Tandoor (bread) was edible. the other two item was cooked with lot of Sour Cream (not at all used in Indian meals). Even liberal use of Sour Cream did not make it any palatable at all. As soon as guests from any table left, the waiter brought a broom and cleaned the floor right in the presence of other sitting guests. Finally, when we decided to leave, the waiter came and started wiping the table when we were still sitting and waiting for the check. We were obliged to ask him to wait until we left. We were the ONLY Indian guests at the restaurant; all other guests were Americans who are easy to please with anything spicy. We asked the Manager IF they ever had any Indian guests, he informed us they "always had Foreigners". Needless to say, in my 20 years of stay in Boston, this turned out to be the worst experience.

Oanh P.

Yelp
This is the 3rd time I've been here. I have to say that I like their buffet selection better than just ordering from the menu. It's also better for someone who like to try our new food. More option to taste and pick what you like. I was craving Indian food so decided to here for dinner. We ordered veggie samosa for starter. The inside was just warm not hot. :/ Ordered lamb vindaloo - creamy sauce with tomato base? I usually don't like lamb but this was made tender. It was delicious. Also went for the staple, chicken tikka masala. Of course also have to have the garlic naan; come in 2. Just a quick dinner. Service was a bit slow but it wasn't too busy. We were charged for extra nan but when addressed, they quickly apologize and corrected it. Food taste good but I had better Indian food. I would still go back here though.

Evan J.

Yelp
This place is the real deal. We ordered two different lamb curries (one with mango, one korma style), veggie samosas, onion kulcha, and some gulab jamun to finish. The lamb was absolutely perfect and succulent; both sauces were strongly flavored and distinct. The samosas were both crispy and flaky, with comforting earthy spices. The bread was richly textured, with that vegetal stringy crunch and sweet flavor of caramelized onions. Finally, the gulab jamun... delightful donut holes soaked in cardamom scented syrup. Home run.

Proud OF M.

Yelp
Chicken in the tikka masala is dry, flavorless, as if they just tossed it in the sauce and microwaved it. Sits in heavy cream with a sour off putting taste. Chicken 65 was over battered and also relatively flavorless. Chick peas looked like a mixture of tap water and gravy. These are the types of Indian restaurants that make people think Indian food sucks.

Michelle C.

Yelp
naaaaaan! oh warm, fresh yummy naan, how I love thee. I'm really not a fan of buffet, but I like that you can try a little of everything here. Lunch buffet for $10. Attentive waiters.....that are very quiet. One main dining room and then back dining area is for bigger groups and also has the buffet tables. Veggie fritters and this mushroom curry dish was really good. I think they switch up the items frequently.

Erin C.

Yelp
I've actually never eaten in at this restaurant and use it exclusively as take-out, which I just so happen to love. The dishes are flavorful, they always get my order right and the prices are decent. I keep meaning to get to their buffet, but have yet to make it. A few big winners for my family are the samosa, Aloo Gobi, Lamb Spinach and Chicken Achari. On top of good food the staff is pretty friendly too. That is kind of a bonus since we are primarily take-out!

Henry P.

Yelp
A Moody Street Classic... been coming here since '00... parking is fine - on street it lot, and there are several lots around. Clean, friendly, and well kept up. The food is prepared very well. Dish they are know for is their chicken curry... kind of warm and spicy. They have the standards as well. No negatives.

A N.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, the food is bad. It's so bad that it's funny-bad. It's so bad, I accused my non-desi bae of being the reason it was so bad. It's so bad that non-desi bae and I spent the evening joking about whether it was bad because they were mad I was there with a non-desi bae, or if they cooked it to how they imagined non-desi bae would like it. It was so bad that non-desi bae said it would be perfect for his dad. We got snookered into coming here because this one time we ordered it on UberEats and it was totally fine. Last night they served us boiled lamb cubes in un-spiced tomato sauce and called it vindaloo. We flat out started digging our forefingers into the sauce to see if we could unearth some hint of spice sans naan carrier carbs. Some crunchy cauliflower and potato slices were posturing as aloo gobi. They were yellow, so at some point they had met some turmeric, I guess. Our dogs give four paws up to the plain naan. Maximum barks...they tasted just like Trader Joe's. "Bae, next time let's just go to that place in Lexington," I casually threw out as we walked over to Kung Fu Tea. Bae paid because this one said no self-respecting desi was putting money down on boiled plain tomato sauce. Fin

Yelp
This place sucks!!!!! I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and they gave me the wrong food and tried to convince me that it was tikka Masala. I have been loyal to little India despite their shortcomings but this was too far. To try to convince me that the food they were giving me was the correct was too much. The customer is always right and they sure lost my business forever. I had to drive back in the pouring rain to get my money back for the wrong order. This is ridiculous. The food is also average, too creamy, bland and overpriced.

Jeffrey G.

Yelp
I've only had the veggie biryani and the mango lassie, but what little I've had has been just delicious! Very flavorful, and lots of food so I can eat for days (seems to just get better). Good place overall. Update: visited the actual restaurant - lost 1 star. Very strange environment... peculiar piano music was playing during the meal (it was really weird!) and some casual (and strangely positive) racism towards my partner from our server. Will still eat from here, but takeout only!

Emaan A.

Yelp
I have only ever gotten delivery from this place so I can only comment on that experience. I must say, the food is incredibly delicious! The portions are great for the price and I always end up eating for days. If you're craving a good curry, whether meat or vegetarian (a variety of options), check out this place :)

Vanditha S.

Yelp
We had awful experience today at this restaurant today. I invited my family and my best friends to celebrate a special occasion. We had a serious of bad experience back to back till it come to a point that I felt I'm insulting my parents and best friends by bringing them to this place. First, when we were trying to sit in table, person was giving us weird, unhappy look. Then, when we said we are a group of 8, the person who was setting the tables was super unhappy and we could make out from his face.. and at some point he even made comments and shrugged off weirdly. Then again in upset face, dropped fork/spoon on my friend(which almost toppled water glass) and didn't even bother to apologise. Then, while people were looking at drinks menu, he literally snatched drinks menu from their hands and said "anyway you don't need drinks" At this point, we all were confused if we are doing something wrong.. I think, this place seemed unwelcoming for "Indians" though it's an Indian restaurant. I didn't see any issue in the way they treated other tables.. why only treat our party so badly? Was it because we were a party of Indians? If so, you have serious issue.

Jon F.

Yelp
Been to Soul of India twice and both times the food and service have been outstanding. They have very diverse menu. Between my wife and I we've had four dishes , all very well prepared. The portions are generous and really delicious. If you ask for spicy, they make it spicy with no reservation. They'll prepare the dishes to any spice level you want. Try the Biryani if you want something a little different from standard Indian fare.

Grace W.

Yelp
I've been coming here for more than 10 years and I love this place. Great for family and friends. Friendly service and the food is amazing. Love it!

Skye G.

Yelp
5 Stars for the rice pudding, Kheer! I have always been a dessert person and tend to ask for the dessert menu before ordering my meal but when I am out for Indian I always get the Kheer and don't need to see the menu since this has always been my favorite. For $3.95 I got a whole bowl of the yummiest rice pudding! A whole bowl! Not a little dessert cup with a few bites to taste but really a whole bowl. Sweet with almonds and topped with ground pistachio it ended my meal on a high note. Mr. G is a Vindaloo guy and he wasn't disappointed. I ordered the Lamb Curry and also was very happy. The portion seemed to appear small but I think it was because I was hungry. The large chunks of lamb were tender and cooked just right. The amount was perfect and so was the Garlic Nan. It was soft, warm and a bit on the doughy side which I just love. The service was also very good. Our waiter was pleasant and our meal was brought out quickly and served hot. They have a lunch buffet so I will need to come back to try a little of this and a little of that.

Melissa T.

Yelp
We are just in town for the week and stopped in because we were craving indian food. The food was amazing and the wait staff and owner were so nice and accommodating. Would definitely reccomend

Jackie N.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've eaten here but food is still pretty good.. just a lot more expensive. Not huge portions. One bowl of rice shared for 2 people..yet the menu says that rice comes with each entree. Just had a basic meal. Tasty food, rich, full-flavored sauces. Garlic naan was light & crunchy in spots & delicious. Chicken korma nice flavor & texture. There could have been more chicken, especially for nearly $16.00!! Wait staff was attentive, although a bit reserved. Overall impression is good, decent Indian food just a bit pricey.

Erin A.

Yelp
I ordered take out on a Monday night and wasn't impressed. The chicken tikka masala was just ok. The hari bhari tikki was greasy and lacked flavor or spices. Andy order came with a bunch of styrofoam (plate + the appetizer container).

Alice D.

Yelp
Little India (which is literally quite little) has great food and excellent service. We started off with samosas, which were huge and absolutely delicious! They are pretty deeply fried, but the thick outside didn't overshadow the flavorful potatoes and veggies in the center. I recommend using the mango chutney that comes out with the papadum (crispy bread/cracker-like appetizer) to soften the spiciness! We also ordered the chicken tikka masala, panir do piaza and garlic naan. I would recommend all three, but the panir dish really stood out. The cheese tasted so tender and absorbed just the right amount of spices and veggies from the sauce. The servers here were so sweet even though we were the last people in the restaurant on a Friday night. The prices are up there but I think it's well worth it!
