"A breakfast spot, pizza place, and red sauce restaurant all rolled into one, Little Oven is a red-sauce classic on St. Paul’s far East Side. Try the Pavarotti sandwich, heaped with ground beef and Italian sausage patties, pepperoni, and mozzarella, then doused in a tangy marinara." - Justine Jones, Eater Staff

This restaurant is like coming home. Everything is delicious. It’s a local favorite with many people. The pizza is fantastic. They even have frozen pizzas to go. And they are delicious!!! Today we had breakfast. It’s my favorite breakfast anywhere in the St. Paul area. Service is always with a smile and very welcoming. Definitely showing the EAST SIDE PRIDE! I always order the East Sider during the week or the Lucky 7 Sunrise on the weekend. My partner had one of the specials on the paper menu. Scrambled eggs with onions, sausage and cheese. We both choose the delicious Italian bread toast every time. Coffee is always served with a thermal server placed on the table, so, you don’t have to ask for more. *** Cash or checks only ***

It's been a few years since we have been here and wish we wouldn't have waited so long. It as good as it's always been! Food was fantastic as well as the service. Highly recommend this staple.

We came at around 1pm this afternoon. We were sat at a booth as we had requested. I found that since they asked us what kind of seating we wanted was very nice of the lady. Once we sat down though it was like trying to track down a hidden gem to get the servers attention once we were ready to order. We had placed an order for 2 kids pizzas, mezzo mezzo and their lasagna. The kids pizzas were absolutely near impossible for kids to eat on their own. Simply cutting them in squares might of been the reason but I'm no expert. The meat ravioli was room temperature in comparison to the rest of the dish. That's interesting. My side salad, ordered without cucumber, had two pieces of it in the salad still and continued to taste like cucumber. My guess is they pre make those with it in it, she just didn't communicate that, thankfully food allergies for some people can be mild, I just feel sorry for those that aren't so lucky. On the other hand there is an upside. I don't ever have to come back and I also don't have to recommend this place to anyone.

We went here for lunch and it had been awhile since I had been here last. The food is delicious and the staff are wonderful! We will be back!

Google
Literally the best food I've had in a while. Super authentic, cozy and has a familiar almost home-like atmosphere. The waitress was one of the nicest ladies I have ever met, I truly felt welcomed. ALSO! Those were the BEST! breadsticks EVER.

Google
A very cute spot in St. Paul that I think most should check out for a date night. Their alfredo was somewhat bland, but honestly I expect this from most restaurants as not many spices are actually used in an alfredo. Their red sauce & Parmesan breadsticks are absolutely winners. The chicken soup is always delicious from here as well. My partner got a cheese ravioli and two meatballs, and it’s well worth it. I cannot stop raving about their red sauce; definitely choose something with that! This is a cash-only establishment, but they do have an atm inside, but to be safe I would bring cash just to make sure. Server was amazing and super attentive (wish I got her name so I could give her credit).

Google
Nice little shop on the corner, cute and cozy! Order the take out special 2 large 2 toppings for $26 bucks! That's too good of a deal to pass up. Carbones alone cost you 26 bucks for a large pizza alone. The pizza was great and had a generous amount of cheese, which was a nice balance to the topping ratio! I was very impressed with the quality and taste compared to the price. This will be our number one place to order from now on. Hands down the best in the area, in my opinion. So call it in and pick it up, see for yourself, you won't regret it! Also, order wings, they were whole wings, which is always nice! Very flavorful and fried to perfection, which i prefer over baked any day. Just remember cash or check only!

Great place, friend found through TikTok. Excellent 👌 Italian, huge portions, great value, yummy 😋 EVERYTHING. Any Italian food lover, MUST GI AND EAT.

Yelp
I remember coming here as a child with my family in the 90s and we made our way back recently and we're so glad that we did! The past two times we've visited we've ordered the Open Faced Turkey Sandwich. The Large is $13 and will feed you for days!!

Allyssa D.

Yelp
My best friend and I were pleased... The restaurant was a little busy, but we received quick and attentive service. We had a wonderful server. However, it seemed we were being rushed a little bit towards the end of our meal. The food was good, well-seasoned and brought in great portion sizes. Be sure to ask for a side of marinara for the breadsticks. Overall, 4/5 it was great but we weren't blown away

Natalie W.

Yelp
It's such a cute little cozy place. The staff is immediately friendly and makes you feel at home when you walk in. It is cash or check only for payments. The food is such good portion sizes and tastes good. I got the chicken parmigiana with penne noodles and it was the best I've found since moving to MN. You get a soup or salad with all pastas, I got the French onion soup which had great flavor. All pastas are also serviced with Parmesan breadsticks or a fresh baked loaf of bread. We ordered the fried ravioli and they were good and filled with plenty of cheese filling. My bf got the lasagna and it wasn't his favorite but it was ok, he would try something different next time. My mom got the pomodoro and added chicken. She liked it and thought that it was light enough but still had flavor. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for good Italian and I will be back again!

Cris J.

Yelp
Great food and great service. The lasagna was excellent. Straight up Mom and pop diner feel. Tons of regulars.

Camille C.

Yelp
Maybe the pizza is better? This place was very busy. We noticed we were the youngest individuals in the location. Service was amazing! Our salad and soup (not pictured) came out very quickly. Then the popovers came out - they had a weird smell and metallic taste. We barely finished our original bite. Our fish dinners arrived. The fish was decent and the tartar sauce was good. The mashed potatoes were gummy - and possibly instant. Little Oven only accepts cash or checks.

Nicole G.

Yelp
My family and I decided to try dinner Little Oven's fish fry. Stopped in around 5:00pm and waited for about 60 minutes for a table of 12. Understandable due to our large group. However, a little frustrating as we called on Monday and told we could call around 3:00pm to be placed on a waitlist. Did that and there is no waitlist. We still decided to give it a try. The restaurant is clean, small, and busy. Our waitress did fine. She took our orders, but would often step away in the middle of taking our order. It was a little odd. I've never really experienced anything like that before. Appeared to be a little overwhelmed, but we were patient with her. Portions are large. Everyone ordered fish fry and 3 piece is plenty. Had leftovers for next day. Note, restaurant only takes cash or check. There is an ATM on site incase you need it. Our waitress did not willingly want to divide our bill by family, but we asked her to, and she did it. This isn't my first time at Little Oven, I've been here many time. Always a good spot. Large menu and large portions. I don't know that I'll be back for fish fry here.

Andrew N.

Yelp
This place has existed for decades if not longer than I have been alive. This place has some pretty damn good food if you have patience to wait for it on busy days or evenings. I used to come here a lot with my parents as a kid and we always enjoyed it. Was always good. Not the best pizza on the planet but damn is it good. I haven't been in years but I felt this deserved a review as I am going to visit this place in a few weeks and see what's changed and if it's as good as I remember!

Ava S.

Yelp
My capellini pomodoro was light and fresh, and for $13 it was just a perfect meal! My family enjoyed their orders as well, my dad was especially pleased with his lasagna. For how good it is, I figured I'd see more people inside, but the dining room was quite empty when we went. Service was quick and friendly, dining area was clean.

Ted H.

Yelp
The Food and Service is great. However, dining in a Freezer and Wind Tunnel make not a pleasant evening eating-out experience. Several friends and myself had dinner on Sunday (6/23/24), we have been dining at your Restaurant for many years and have always enjoyed it. Asking your personnel to slow down your Ceiling Fans, we were told that was not possible, because your Fan Controller was missing or some other excuses. We stayed and suffered thru our meals. Apparently there was no Manger on duty to assist in this matter. Other diner did not look very comfortable either. As the Owner of this Establishment it is your responsibility to fix this problem so people can can continue to come to your Restaurant and enjoy your good food and have a pleasant eating experience without having to bring Winter clothing. Thank you, Ted Herrmann.

Lenny R.

Yelp
Great food. I had a jalapeño sausage pizza that was terrific and my wife had a lasagna that was huge and according to her delicious and tasty. The prices were very affordable. Although you had to pay in cash.

Steve S.

Yelp
One of the best breakfasts I've ever had! Omelette was delicious, hash browns cooked to perfection, and the pancakes were bliss!!! The only downside is the portions were huge :)

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Eastside staple known for the Italian cuisine: rigatoni, manicotti, meatballs, ravioli, pizza, spaghetti, spumoni ice cream and more! Contrary, they also serve an amazing breakfast that is known for the XL serving sizes. The interior is relatively small, but I appreciate how the building has stayed true to its roots (never expanded) and very similar style to how it's always been with of course, a few small decorating changes. They do not take plastic cards of any type and there is an ATM on-site. They have very affordable frozen take home meals that you can purchase including lasagnas, baked penne, pizzas, etc. Bonus tip: My sister taught me to order the chocolate milk for breakfast (or whenever) and she wasn't wrong. It's served almost in the consistency of a milk shake, definitely hand stirred with chocolate syrup and whip cream on top. Enjoy!

Lindsey H.

Yelp
What an amazing breakfast spot in St. Paul. Small parking in the back. Street parking also available. The coffee was divine and the food was absolutely five star. Great value!!! My new favorite breakfast spot for sure.

Kaylee R.

Yelp
We had a party of 10 people and although they were short staffed today our service was fantastic! Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. She made sure everyone in our party had anything we needed even though the restaurant was busy. The food was great and the portions were HUGE for the price, we're all bringing home leftovers to enjoy for lunch tomorrow. Everyone loved their meal. Be sure to bring cash or a check because they don't take card but have an ATM available.

Dave N.

Yelp
A great little restaurant Pizza is good (you can get it either baked or pickup one out of their freezer and bake it yourself) the Turkey dinner was amazing, though if you go here they do NOT except Credit Cards this is a CASH ONLY or CHECK accepted Wet small parking lot

Nate B.

Yelp
A classic spot in East St Paul. Really like their pizza, very affordable and good quality. Right off White Bear Ave with a small parking lot, place has been around for a long time and is worth a stop. I highly recommend their takeout frozen pizzas to cook at home. Really cheap and taste great. I pick these up sometimes after visiting my in laws on the East side and have really enjoyed them.

Vab Y.

Yelp
I just stooped by here while I was doing my laundry at WB and got some lunch. The pric3s are good and they are fast. I got the spaghetti. The sauce is just a tad too sour for me but overall still a good and fast deal fir lunch. I would still stop here again.

Mia L.

Yelp
No frills diner with good portions. Got the Lenten Special fish fry -- fries weren't too warm but they were delicious (on the softer side, which I love). Fish was nice and hot and crispy. Dining companion got the Italian Casserole pasta bake - he really enjoyed it, and it was a super generous portion. Service needed some help - but that's because one woman was handling all tables. Loved it honestly - it's not the world's best food, but it's solid, very reasonably priced and fun! Cash only though, so make sure you're prepared.

Tim B.

Yelp
Been here multi times throughout the years.. It has changed a bit. The prices are a bit more, the all you can eat it only on certain days and times, but the good is good. You also get a lot of food. I have not tried the breakfast that much here but when I did it was great! This is a place that you may need to get there and wait for a booth but it will be worth it. The service can be good or bad depending on time of day and if the server wants to be there, but that is with any where you go. If you have not been to the little oven, it is at least a place that you have to try...

Jerry V.

Yelp
A fun find! Been seeing it advertised for years, never been. It is the perfect low key place. Easy location; White Bear and Minnehaha. Totally Saint Paul. Prices are excellent. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Waitress displayed a sense of proprietary pride...no idea if she is the owner This will be my new to go to place. I have no idea about the rest of the menu but breakfast was tops.

Mary R.

Yelp
Good service, great food, decent prices. I would definitely recommend to everyone! .....

Steven G.

Yelp
Nothing fancy about the straight outa the 60's dining room and ambiance (which may help explain their huge take-away business): you come here for the food! Huge portions of comfort food at reasonable cost. Cash-only, but they do have an ATM right inside the entry in case you didn't come prepared.

chris b.

Yelp
(2.5 stars ) We got lasagna to go since we had enjoyed a previous visit. I'm not sure if they changed their recipe/ingredients, but this version was pretty bland. I doctored it up with some homemade pizza sauce but it was just weirdly under-seasoned. Maybe we just got a bad meal? Cash only

mark b.

Yelp
Went to get breakfast here today and we sat there for 10 minutes and never even got looked at by a waitress herd from another person that the waitress is racist same thing happened to her as well. For the record my wife is brown and I'm of the peach variety.

Kelly R.

Yelp
Tonight was a total bummer for a place that I consider one of the best pizza joints in the city! I was a solo diner tonight and I was made to feel like an absolute fool. I was embarrassed and angry to say the least. I ordered with Lisa B and specifically asked for a LIGHT on the sauce and a WELL done pizza. It arrived with plenty of sauce and was white on the bottom-meaning it was not done to what I asked for. I let her know and she went to the pizza cook and he said he cannot put it back in the oven because it is already cut and it won't work. So she comes back to me and urges me to TAKE IT HOME to finish cooking it!!! I said then what is the purpose of coming to a restaurant to be served and avoid the kitchen? She said well, if it were me that's what I would do. I stood firm and didn't cave and said no. She said she will ask her manager. So, she gets to the 'wall' to discuss this and the cook said, I didn't know she wanted it on the more done side of things. Do you know she NEVER admitted she goofed. They were talking and when they noticed I was listening and watching they quieted down. She came back to say that they were going to remake it. I was like okay. NOW, the whole time she is talking about how she cannot wait to be done at work. She is close to being done and when my pizza is done then she knows it's closing time. Unreal. I didn't get to explain my side of the story but they all knew I was complaining. Worst service ever. The staff on tonight were rude to other customers as well. I don't care if your loaded or homeless, you are a customer and if you pay you need to treat them as such. You wouldn't have a business without people like us. Hire better help. She was the worst server, she didn't know the three week old menu and also, she usually only serves at breakfast, she made sure tables were aware of that. Ugh.

Christie L.

Yelp
Great food and great service. We've been twice in the last month, for breakfast and dinner. French toast and lasagna, both very good.

Patrick L.

Yelp
My sister lived around the corner for 2 years and the day she leaves she says there's a good spot around the corner I've never been to. Super good breakfast. Large portions on the cheap. Everything omelet was so good, French toast is made with cinnamon swirl bread...amazing. Only negative...no substitutions. They offer toast or pancakes. I wanted French toast and the waitress said "no, we can't do that". I kindly told her I want French toast and I am paying for it so give me French toast. I would have gotten better pics but what had happened was...I was hungry.

J S.

Yelp
Stopped eating here after I asked the waitress to cook my spaghetti Al Dente. She said "I'm not Italian, I don't know what Al Dente is" I told her it's a standard way to cook pasta, then she said "we cook all our pasta ahead of time" ! Spaghetti takes 8-10 min to cook and they cook it ahead of time??? NO THANK YOU !

Chris B.

Yelp
This is one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. The spaghetti sauce is caned ( don't believe them when they tell you it's home made) my girlfriend got the Alfredo which was a bowl of soup. I understand most Minnesotans have no idea of what is good or not. This place either needs to fire their entire kitchen staff or send them to culinarily school. Do not waste your money, pure garbage. I had to give at least one star to post but believe me it's not worthy of a single star.

Melissa C.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this little gem and had a most delicious breakfast! Some might overlook this as a potential breakfast spot but they'd be missing out! Has that small family-owned Italian restaurant feel where all are welcome. Staff was friendly and service was very prompt.

Lisa H.

Yelp
CASH OR CHECK ONLY. It was my husband's birthday and we were trying to decide between DeGidio's and The Little Oven. We had never tried The The Little Oven but had heard good things. We decided to take a chance and go to The Little Oven. Blah. We had all wished we had gone to DeGidio's. Our server was a sweetheart. Service was good. The bread basket was nice. My meal came with a popover, it was good. My husband got the Mezzo Mezzo, it was ok. My daughter got the chicken alfredo, she said the chicken was good and the alfredo tasted like Stouffers. I had a Lenten special, the lobster cannelloni, I ate one of the three. The popover as the best part. Well, we tried it. Bummer my husband's birthday dinner was subpar.

Tiffany G.

Yelp
The Canadian Bracon with pineapple IS AWESOME!!!!! Says Samuel my 9 year old son (right now). I enjoyed Twin City Breakfast. Best hashbrowns I have had in years. Love Breakfast and they surprisingly do that great too not just pizza.

Nancy W.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem! This appears to be the type of place the locals love, and while it might be something you'd drive right by without a second thought, you'd be missing out it you did. The parking lot was full, and the dine-in area of the restaurant was moderately full. I admired the waitstaff; they were never idle, and were hopping from table to table, yet still managed to be attentive. The food was delicious, and the servings were generous. I had the lasagna, which was served with a dinner salad and the prettiest basket of garlic breadsticks I've ever seen. My dining partner had spaghetti and meatballs. They also had a fridge/freezer stocked with premade items for takeout (and I was tempted to see if there were garlic breadsticks stocked there). The prices were very reasonable, especially considering what you got (we each will get 2+ meals from our serving). The ambiance for the place was a bit lacking, but it was more than made up for by the service and food. Without a doubt, we will be back soon! Note: they only accept cash (no credit cards).

Priya Z.

Yelp
Based on their Breakfast ONLY. Over the weekend, a friend and I decided to participate in the Moustache Run 2019. It had previously snowed about 8 inches and Friday into Saturday snowed an additional 3 inches. The running conditions were not the best quality, but we did it! Our toes were cold, our hands were numb, and because our stomachs were empty we were ready for some warm breakfast. I have lived about a half mile from this place for almost 2 years and not once stopped in. I have had friends and neighbors tell me how amazing it is, and their pizza is quite delicious supposedly. My friend suggested we go here, noting they have really great breakfast. We arrived and the place is small on the outside, but they manage the inside space well. We were seated quickly and given waters. The waitress had an additional large party, and as she passed ours told us she would be right with us. She was very polite, and prompt. She answered all of our questions without a second thought. She knew her stuff, which can be a lot as a waitress. We ordered the Messy Eggs and Spinach Omelet no Mushrooms, Substitute Green Peppers instead. I ordered the omelet, and it was delicious and very filling! I wasn't able to finish my meal. With the Omelet came a large order of Hash browns, and 2 slices of buttered toast. The Messy Eggs had the same sides. We each had to get a to-go box. Their orders of food were warm, filling, and great for an additional meal or two. The to-go containers were really nice quality as well. This place reminds me of a small town breakfast place. The crowd is mostly regulars, the prices are very reasonable, and the quantity is large, with the quality just better than good, but not excellent. Overall I would, and will come here again. The bathrooms were decent and clean, the space was small, but they clearly know how to make the best of it, and the portion size was nice for a second meal or late night snack. The downfall is that they don't accept credit cards. I know as most of the other review have mentioned it is 2019. They only accept Cash or Check, which isn't the worst thing, but it isn't the most convenient. They do have an ATM in the entrance, but that is more of a down fall for the customers than the establishment.

Jamie M.

Yelp
Why oh why would it take almost 1 hour for pasta and salad for an online order. I would have been better off coming in person to order. The restaurant was not busy inside during my escapade so I don't understand why it would take soooooo long for pasta and salad. Good customer service goes a long way. I think restaurants are able to skimp on certain levels of service if they are one of the main service providers in the neighborhood. Despite the longevity of being around, the staff is still expected to have basic kindness and welcoming customer service. The register clerk seemed like she was ready to clock out long before my arrival. I grew up on the Eastside. I love supporting locally owned businesses. However, I will never do an online order again.

Jess H.

Yelp
This is your typical neighborhood, family owned joint. Everything is made from scratch, they only accept cash, and they're ALWAYS busy (which speaks volumes). If you're expecting something fancy, this isn't the place for you. We used to live right by here and loved going here. The food comes in HUGE portions and the staff is always top notch. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop in and enjoy yourself.

Angelo A.

Yelp
Usually go for breakfast always tasty and correct. Bring your cash they don't take cards unless you order online.

Kenadie M.

Yelp
We ordered food out from here.. we got pizza and pasta. The pasta was a big serving and was super yummy. The pizzas crust was a bit tough, it was hand tossed. It tasted good, it was just firm for our taste. The breadsticks that came with the pasta were different, you could tell they were hand made. I enjoyed the food from here.

Aaron S.

Yelp
I have been there several times None of them good. Staff was ok but the food was burnt and either tastes saltier than a block of salt, or it has no taste.

Nathan A.

Yelp
Awesome not to much of a Italian food guy but this place is a gem not a crowded menu and I like that cause Italians can get crazy with a menu like th og good dishes done right everytime I love this joint I'm sad I forget it's there and it's so long between visits but when I do I get one of everything to go why not it hardly dents the pocket at all with the crazy low prices and huge meals win win man love you little oven hope you have another 100 years of kick but food and service

Brent S.

Yelp
Cute little spot! Awesome menu with Minnesota favorites! CannellonI, lasagna, and breadsticks are tremendous! Great value on everything, especially breakfast and steak!

Troy O.

Yelp
The pizza is great, good enough we pick it up even though we live in Burnsville. Unfortunately the last 5, FIVE, times we ordered they have screwed up the order. The first 3 times we tried getting a half and half pizza but the whole thing had all the toppings on it. The next time we ordered a large and a small each with different toppings they both had the same toppings. Gave one more go tonight. Ordered one pep and sausage and one pineapple and mushroom. We received 2 pep and sausage. How can a place consistently screw up orders??

Brandi R.

Yelp
We visited tonight for the first time as a group of 4 adults and 3 kids. Our waitress could not have been any better; she was amazing at interacting with the (spirited) 4 year old and made her feel grown up and special. The service was great. As a group we had pizza, French fries, lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs and the giant dago. All of our food was amazing. We will be back.

Andy K.

Yelp
Been a patron of this restaurant for years and told many people about the food. Today I learned the management will not back up their product. They completely messed up our order and would correct it. On top of that the lady at the front desk was very rude and unwelcoming. Terrible service to someone that has supported them for years.

James L.

Yelp
We ate breakfast here today. One breakfast was enough for my wife and I to split. Place was packed. Service was good.

Erin W.

Yelp
This gem has been a greater east side neighborhood destination for decades and there's a reason why. Consistency. Always good. Always affordable. Always heaping portions of deliciousness! The pizza is supposed to be their specialty, and while it is tasty, it's actually my least favorite thing on the menu. Breakfast until 2 and it's all good! Lumberjack pancakes are my kids faves and my hubby usually gets the basin street Breakfast with the spicy sausage and smothered in hollandaise. I'm a biscuits and gravy gal and it's never disappointing! Burgers and homecut fries with the skin on are scrumptiously crisp. Then there are the Italian dishes. The lasagna...the fettuccine...THE GNOCCHI. Please try the gnocchi. I've had it several times and only once was it just slightly dense and chewy so it might have just been an odd day. For a hearty meal that is affordable and delicious you can't miss with this place. Drawbacks: it's a small space so be prepared to wait during peak hours, but it's worth it. Also, it's cash or checks only, but they provide an at the front door!

LeeAnn V.

Yelp
The food is great. But the person who answers the phone for take out is rude. She needs to get a personality! She is matter a fact and that's it. I don't know if it's her that messes up our order or the cooks but our orders never seem right. I think they need to get someone to answer the phones who actually want to be there and not annoyed that I called.

Kristin T.

Yelp
I love the taste of the pizza, it's very delicious. I have ordered online for pick up for the past 2 times, and both times I get home to see that both my orders were wrong. So that's deterring me from going back.

Gayle D.

Yelp
I am sorry Eadtsiders but I don't understand why so many people think this is a good place food is mediocre at best and people who work there are down right rude. You almost feel like an imposition when your putting in your order and I have never gotten every part without asking salad drinks etc
