Best Restaurants and Shops for Pierogi in Detroit and Southeast Michigan | Eater Detroit

"Founded in 2014 by 20-year-old Drew Geer who started creating traditional and not-so-traditional pierogi as a fresh high school grad, the Little Pierogi and Crepe Kitchen serves homemade pierogi made fresh daily. In addition to potato and onion, farmer’s cheese, and sauerkraut, Little Pierogi’s New World takes range from pizza and taco to mac and cheese and chicken bacon ranch." - Dorothy Hernandez

Google
Always always 5 stars! The staff are all so sweet! The food is delicious every single time! This crepe is the Elvis which is my all time favorite. With a variety of pierogis! I love being able to order 1 or 10 of each one I want to try!😌😌

Google
Everything is just so delicious. You get the perfect balance of sweet and salty. So much to choose from that have to go more than once. I personally travel over an hour just to eat some delicious food!!

Google
Tonight we tried this place for the first time and let me just say WOW! Very good food. Everything we tried was great! I especially like the Elm Crepe. We definitely will be coming back.

Google
My family has been coming to the Pierogi and Crepe kitchen for years, and it's become our favorite go-to restaurant. We enjoy every single visit! The staff is always friendly and helpful and our food is perfect every time. They have a delicious variety of pierogis and sweet/savory crepes to choose from, as well as a rotating soup of the day. I absolutely love this place and I always recommend it to others!

Gebo's Garage

Google
Came here on a recommendation from a friend. He said this place was great, and he wasn't wrong. My favorite was the Jalapeño Popper Perogi, but I also enjoyed the potato-onion Perogi, too. It was something different for us, and I am glad we tried it. Delicious! If you're curious about seating, yes, there are 3 booths and a couple of small tables inside. Although carryout was extremely popular.

Google
So good!!!! First time that granddaughter had pierogi and she's hooked 😋 service is really good too. It's a great little spot for amazing crepes and pierogi. The Faygo is nice too.

Google
Today I had the Cabbage soup which was one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted. Next time I'll get a quart to take home. I also got farmer's cheese pierogies which were perfect, even after driving home. Everyone is kind, the food is fresh and quickly made.

Google
Some of the best pierogis I've had and so many fun flavors for both pierogis and crepes. It's a very small spot but staff was very sweet and it wasn't crowded. We even went back for another order of pierogis they were so good. We ordered the potato cheddar, chicken bacon ranch, pizza, mac n cheese, bacon bleu and jalapeno popper pierogis and the ford ave and elm crepes. The cereal in the elm crepe was a little stale but overall really sweet and delicious.

Yelp
Cool little spot with about 20-30 people seats, the pierogis are sold by the each and at $2 a pop, with some classic fayo sodas. I got a couple potato and onions, a cheese burger, jalapeño popper, and the pizza one pierogi topped with grilled onions and a side of sour cream. The pierogis are homemade and about the size of a slider. The classic potato onion was really good with a creamy interior texture and a slight crisp on the outside from the pan sear. Definitely my #1 here for the traditional classic you would see across the board. The pizza one was probably #4 for me with a decent flavor but I wanted that pizza crispy crust which is really just a me thing. The jalapeno popper was #2 for me and was true to its name with the spice and abundantly filled. The cheeseburger was #3 for me and it had a flavor in it that I couldn't place but I really liked it not being just a standard chopped cheeseburger. What this place does really well at is having a twist on a classic and does it well. 100% recommend the onions and the sour cream on top to make it and break up the starchiness of the potatoes. Staff were pleasant as well and a great spot for a quick cheaper lunch! 5/5 would recommend to a friend for a little polish lunch.

Yelp
Finally! A restaurant that specializes in pierogi (and not just selling frozen ones either). Each pierogi is either $1-$2 depending on if you want them cooked to order and comes with plenty of sauteed onions or kielbasa if you so choose it. I got a variety that included mushroom & swiss, farmer cheese, potato cheddar, and jalapeno popper. I enjoyed every single bite and have every intention of returning to try a crepe. One thing I love about this place is the simplicity of the menu. They serve either pierogi or crepes as their name implies and that's all. They have plenty of flavors to choose from but it's not hard to navigate any of them. This restaurant certainly lives by the "less is more" philosophy.

Yelp
Really excellent and creative selection of pierogies. The shop itself is small but service is friendly and fast; you can have a quick meal here that is high quality and delicious. The pierogies are fairly large. My husband and I made a meal of 8 pierogies plus a side of kielbasa. We had just enough room left to split a mini crepe for dessert which was a satisfying lunch. All the pierogies we tried were great but for the sake of argument here is how I would rank them: 1. Loaded potato 2. Mac & cheese 3. Potato & cheddar 4. Jalapeño popper (x2) 5. Cheeseburger (x2) 6. Pizza

Yelp
Found this little hole in the wall place in downtown Wyandotte after visiting the neighboring brewery where it was recommended. Best fresh pierogis I've had in metro Detroit and great soups. Very affordable and very friendly service. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Anne A.

Yelp
Took my mom here during my visit back. We got the farmers cheese and the potato onion pierogis with a side of smoked kielbasa. The farmers cheese was our favorite!! Highly recommend. For seating, there is 3 booths and several tables inside. It was afternoon so not too busy. The women working were so friendly and welcoming. We will be back!!

Yelp
This is the cutest little place. Amazing pierogi and excellent service. We eat here often and are always pleased! So proud of the young woman who owns this place and how well she's done with it.

Yelp
Such a gem in Downtown Wyandotte! You won't be disappointed. The food is amazing and you always feel welcome

Yelp
Small little restaurant off the main road. Service was great they make n cook Pierogi's n crepes there by 3 young (to me) ladies. The taste and texture of food is great. We had crepes there that were light and fruit filled. Took home pierogi's and cooked them up last night. My husband said they were the best and we will be going back for more. Sorry no pictures as we enjoyed so much we forgot.
google avatar

Rieale L.

Yelp
We nabbed 5 pierogi and a mini crepe to split at Wyandotte Beer, and it was amazing. Each pierogi was stuffed, tasty and cooked to perfection - served with sautéed onions and sour cream. Service was prompt and friendly:

Yelp
Adorable place! Delicious crepes and pierogis! All homemade and the staff is wonderful.

Yelp
We have been going here for years. The owner is beyond awesome..as well as her staff. Picked up a mix of potato and onion, potato and cheddar and mushroom Swiss pierogi's with onions a cup of vegan tomato basil soup. Pierogis were phenomenal. 5/5 Tomato Basil 4/5-would have been a 5 if had crackers Service 5/5 My friend loves their crepes.

Yelp
What a cute little joint. What a great idea! Crepes and Pierogi... excellent! I found this place from yelp and had to come here. It's tiny 3 booths and 4 tables but it's a must visit for the locals and visitors alike. The staff are super nice. The open kitchen is great because you can watch them work which to me is every bit as entertaining as watching tv. Great selecting of delicious Pierogi from the traditional to the unusual. Like a taco, mushroom Swiss, pizza, or Mac n Cheese. I got 4 with Kielbasa and onions and I am very satisfied. You should come here and sample their menu. Then tell everyone you know to come here. I didn't sample the crepes but the have sweet and savory selections. 5 stars for the terrific execution of their concept. The food I had was really great and the place is as cute as a bushel of puppies and kittens.

Yelp
4.5. Was recommended to go by here and was not disappointed. It's pretty simple, small and straightforward but pierogis were good and hit the spot. Order a few to try. And a dessert crepe was great to finish things off. Some crepes are more creative options than others but all totally doable.

Yelp
I grew up Downriver, and I always make sure to save time to stop here whenever I come back to visit. The mac and cheese pierogi are a nostalgic staple for me, but my favorite now would have to be the chicken bacon ranch. The sautéed onions are a must. You can also get cold pierogi to go and cook at home. A must go!!
google avatar

Yelp
On March 10, 2023, We dined in and sampled just about every pierogi they make. Absolutely Perfect! Prepared just right! We'll definitely go there again!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing and unique dishes offered at fair prices. I took two of my young kids here and they loved it.

Gregory G.

Yelp
Visited this establishment for the first time. Ordered a variety of Pierogis for takeout. They were very good. The staff was very friendly. I would recommend trying this restaurant.
google avatar

Susan A.

Yelp
Very small laid back restaurant. Had the stuffed cabbage soup. Amazing! Pierogis were very good. Best tho was the crepes! The best I've ever had. Strawberries and blueberry filling. Devine! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Saw this little place when I was at the Wyandotte Farmers market. Popped in and it is a very quaint restaurant. I noticed I could order Pierogi cold to go so that is what I did. A dozen mixed flavors and they also included a container full of sliced onion for me to also have when I reheated them at home. I ordered a mini Mulberry crepe also and ate that in the car (dine in is currently closed) It was fabulous! Stuffed with plenty of fruit. I can't wait to try new flavors. The Pierogi heated up extremely well in butter and I fried the onions with them. Just as good as if I would have had them served to me at the restaurant. Highly recommend

Yelp
Friendly staff. Delicious pierogis and kielbasa cooked in cast iron pans. I definitely recommend this place for a nice lunchtime meal. I ordered several different pierogis and loved them.
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. They have the traditional flavors, but also some fun, unexpected flavors. I've never had a bad pierogi here. I love that you can take cold ones home and cook them as well. Everyone is always extremely friendly, too!
google avatar

Dawn C.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots. I get the pierogi cold to go. All the flavors- none disappoint. Pizza is one of my favs.

Yelp
We saw this place on Under the Radar Michigan and added to our list of places to try someday. Well, yesterday was the day! We drove from Middleville - 140+ miles to the west and it was worth it! We combined it with a visit to IKEA but would have been worth it just for the pierogis and crepes! Since you can't eat inside during the pandemic, we took them to a park to eat. We had several "potato onion" and liked them the best. This is the most common type we remember from other Polish restaurants. Very well made, cooked in butter as they should be, well-seasoned (peppery, which is great) - excellent! The best we've ever had! We also tried "potato cheddar" and "taco". Both were very good. Then I ate what was supposed to be "pizza"; at least that's what I ordered. From the description on the menu, I think it was "farmers cheese" since it was very much like ricotta. But we are all in masks so I can't complain that they didn't hear me correctly! I was dying to try the "pizza" though! Next time... Anyway, it was good (I love ricotta) but not our fav. It's a bit plain compared to the bursting flavor in the others. The crepes were the best we ever had! My wife had the "Antoine" which is banana and Nutella. It's what she gets at Eately and she thought this one was much better! The crepes are perfectly cooked. Mine was the "Mulberry" and it was STUFFED with blueberries, strawberries and a fantastic homemade cream. Wonderful! We will be back again - it's THAT good!

Yelp
Happy Small Business Saturday!!!! We tried 7 different pierogis and they were all amazing. * Taco * Cheeseburger * Sauerkraut * Farmers Cheese * Mushroom & Swiss * Popper (v spicy but good) * Pizza + Dill Pickle Soup in a tea cup :) The Soup has big chunks of potato & thin slices of pickle. I'm not a HUGE pickle fan & these flavors were still a great combination for our pre-pierogi noms. Disclaimer: if you're getting them to eat there, it takes about 15 minutes to get your order (but that was OK & worth it)!
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Overall, this place is pretty good! We got two savory crepes (can't remember the names but one was a breakfast one with maple syrup, eggs, and bacon and the other had feta, spinach and tomato) and one dessert crepe called mulberry. We also got four pierogis. I thought they crepes were pretty good. They were different than others I have gotten at other places. The "pancake" part was thick which I really enjoyed actually and they fill it up quite a bit. The pierogis were good too although I am no pierogi expert. I loved the grilled onions and sour cream it comes with on the side too. My complaint is that they weren't that warm on the inside and one of my pierogis was wrong (I really wanted to try jalapeno popper pierogis but I used a Groupon so I didn't complain and will have to try it next time!). Also I wish they had cups of water for free (actually I guess I don't know this for sure but they were selling bottled water so I assumed they don't have free water). The interior was cute! I liked how it was decorated. And it's cute how they name the savory crepes after local roads. It wasn't pretentious either like some of these new "hipster" restaurants. The prices seemed fair. Cash only though!

Yelp
Another great place to eat in Wyandotte ! Teeny spot, limited decor, limited seating, great menu. The name of the restaurant says it all. Read the menu fast, order at the counter. You may then take a seat or stand and watch the preparation process. The food is wonderfully prepared in sight, and brought out to your table. Our meals were delivered hot, attractively presented, and very tasty. This is definitely a must try spot !

Yelp
***CASH ONLY*** I visited the Kitchen on a slow weeknight with a friend. We were cheerfully greeted and asked if we'd ever been there before. Neither of us had, so we took a few minutes to study the offerings. They have many varieties of pierogies available, and you can order individually for $1.50, or a dozen for $12. You can enjoy them prepared with onions and sour cream, or take them home frozen and cook them yourself. Crepes are also offered, but the majority were sweet varieties. I may try one during a future visit. I ordered four: two potato and cheddar, one chicken bacon ranch and one bacon bleu cheese. My friend got a couple jalapeno and a couple mac and cheese. We sat at one of their several small tables and our pierogies were served quickly afterward. I really enjoyed all of mine. They all tasted as they should, and were delightfully salty. My friend thought her mac and cheese pierogies were a dud, because they didn't taste like much. There was a storm coming through, and the woman on the grill said to us not five minutes after we got our food "I'm gonna have to let you ladies out when you're finished. Do you want a box?" It was 7 and they were supposed to be open until 8pm. We both felt rushed to get out so they could close for this "storm" (basically rain). It left bad tastes in our mouths. She could have worded it so much nicer, e.g. "We'll be closing up for the storm once you ladies are done, but take your time." Besides the forced eat-and-run, everything was good. I'll still go back. I'm excited to take my husband because he loves pierogies, and the ones here tasted great.

Yelp
Visiting from VA and did a google search for pierogies. So happy we tried this place. The staff was friendly and patient. You could watch them make them behind the counter. Yum . We each had one pierogi at the restaurant and then ordered more to take home and cook up. They were all delicious. I do wish that they had labeled the take home pierogies or at least separated the meat filled from the vegetarian ones. My partner and I played guess the stuffing lol. He had to taste them all since I don't eat meat. It was a fun game but I would prefer to know which one I am getting before it cut it open.

Audrey W.

Yelp
So. So. So. Amazing. I work in Wyandotte and I've always wanted to try this place and I finally did today and omg, it's the best pierogi I've ever had. I got the pizza, Mac and cheese, loaded potato, and chicken bacon ranch. All of them were amazing but in my opinion, the best was the chicken bacon ranch. I got the Forest crepe too and that was super excellent as well. Will definitely keep coming back!
google avatar

Silvia R.

Yelp
SO good!! Unique pierogi selection and they ALL taste amazing!! Don't sleep on the soup either. Today I had the chicken noodle and can't wait to try the dill pickle soup next time I'm around
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick dinner. I tried three flavors of pierogis: potato & cheese, mushroom & Swiss, Mac & cheese. They were all delicious. We shared two crepes: sycamore and Antoine. They were quite yummy.
google avatar

Chainda M.

Yelp
I was craving something sweet. I don't eat crepes often so I don't have anything to compare it to price wise. It was $6.00. ***** CASH ONLY*** I ordered the Biddle crepe it had bananas, Nutella, cream, graham crackers. It was delicious it definitely hit the spot for me. Service was fast and food was out fairly quickly. I would recommend it.

Shannon P.

Yelp
Everything is fresh they make it in front of you. It is all very yummy. Kids love the Nutella crepe. I love pierogis.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
So glad this place is in Wyandotte, all my friends and I love the menu. It is definitely worth trying out.
google avatar

Kelsie D.

Yelp
I cannot wait to come back. Everything is at a great price for the quality! We literally ordered one of everything. The Pierogis are to die for. The Mac & cheese one, jalapeño popper one, & taco one were our favorites. And you have to get the fruity pebbles & marshmallow crepe. I could live off them for the rest of my life I think. The service was wonderful. It's a small place, so only one person was on the floor. He was so kind and helpful and didn't judge us for the amount of food that we consumed. Definitely our new favorite spot.

Marc F.

Yelp
Small place. The menu consisted of different types of pierogi and crepes. We got the pierogi with grilled onions and kielbasa. They were excellent! Definitely home made with different sizes. They were grilled with crispy edges, along with the opinions. Some of the best I've ever had. Prices were reasonable. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I LOVE this place! I LOVE Pierogi and I LOVE crepes, so it's pretty safe to say that anything offered by a restaurant with both in their name will be good, right? YES. A few things to know before you go: First, this restaurant is small. There are only about 4 booths and 4 tables, and it's not necessarily the most kid-friendly place around town (not because of the employees, simply because of space and seating)! Also, they are a CASH ONLY restaurant, so be prepared! I tend to not carry cash and tend to forget to stop until I'm about a block away. Whoops. Lastly, while I don't know the exact details, this place was started by a young fella in his 20's, who does a lot of charity work, and the restaurant gives back quite a bit to the community, just an FYI. (I like to support the little guy, the underdogs, and the nice people.) On to the food, it's what we go for, right?? The pierogi (yes, for you non-Poles, the plural of pierogi is pierogi) are sold a la carte, so you can pick and choose which to try. I often get one of several different varieties! The mushroom and swiss could be my favorite because they are oozing with melty swiss, and when topped with frizzled onions this just makes it heaven. I generally have a crepe for dessert, and my fave so far is the one featuring icing and Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. I don't think you will find a bad one in the bunch, though.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
This place is a very nice change from the other restaurants nearby. This is a small place but cozy. The pierogis are very good to excellent. I had traditional potato and cheese and then got adventurous with cheeseburger, pizza and mushroom Swiss. I would have never guessed the mushroom Swiss would be so good, but it was. The staff was very friendly, and even the customers that came in were friendly. (That of course, is what I call a classic Wyandotte crowd!). I am glad I gave this little place a try and I will most definitely be back to try some more flavors in the future. Update: Came back on 2/23/18. Just as great as the last time I was there. This is the most awesome place that still not a lot of people know about. A true hidden gem!
google avatar

Drew L.

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday with my wife on our weekend foodie adventures , was really amazing got a couple crepes to go the elvis and a mullberry delicious will be returning again its local for me so definitely stoping back in to get a variety of peirogi's

Allan I.

Yelp
We had the pierogi's which were very good. The place lacked for a better word not business like. They had very limited seating and NO HEAT. They had a beverage cooler with no beverages. Someone could have gone to the local grocery store and bought 15 different pops or Gatorade and made a good profit selling them.
google avatar

Kathie H.

Yelp
My husband went there with a few of his friends. Since I didn't go he decided to bring me home a strawberry crepe. It was the worst I've ever had! The dough was very thick and not totally cooked. If I would have been served that in the restaurant I would have sent it back. I took 2 bites and was too disgusted to finish it even though I was very hungry.
google avatar

Neilly L.

Yelp
Saw this little gem on the news about a year ago. I never go to Wyandotte but made it a point to go. This place is tucked away in the downtown area. Easy to find parking and free. The restaurant itself is pretty small and it seat yourself. You go up to the counter to order and be prepared ahead of time because it's cash only. The pirogies are $1.50 each when warmed up or you can get it to go. There are about 14 flavored from loaded potato, Mexican, pizza, Mac n cheese to BBQ chicken. It was all delicious. The other thing this restaurant is known for is crepes. I found that the crepes were the best thing on the menu. I got the orchard crepe which was warm fresh apple pie filling, Carmel, granola crown and with cream. It was amazing and I definitely need to go back to try other items on the menu.
google avatar

Brooke D.

Yelp
We ordered two dozen uncooked pierogis to go. We get them home and notice 12/24 were cooked, some burnt and some with sour cream on them! That is unacceptable! We will never ever be back!
google avatar

Shanita R.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic food! Crepes and pierogies are my VERY favorite, so a place that has both?!? Count me in! The crepes came out perfectly and so did the pierogi. I got the strawberry, blueberry crepe and assorted pierogies. My sister had the one with nutella and chocolate along with assorted pierogi and loved them too. The best pierogies were the mac and cheese and classic potato and cheddar. We drove about 30 mins to get here, and it was totally worth it. Super small cozy dining room and the people working were super friendly and helpful. The only thing I didn't like was that they absolutely smother the fresh pierogi you order to go in white onions. Our car reeked even though we put them in the trunk. If they can fix this, 5 stars all the way! We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
We got carry out assorted pierogies and a couple of dessert crepes. All of us enjoyed the food very much. Probably the only criticism that we ordered 8 different kinds of pierogies, and they were mixed into two boxes labeled as "mixed", so we spent some time cutting them open to try to figure out what they were. Overall I'd order again, good food that's not the every day stuff you see everywhere else. We'll just have to specify what goes together so it can be boxed together
google avatar

Jacob F.

Yelp
There's only one place I go when I need my pierogi fix. Stick with traditional flavors like potato & cheddar or sauerkraut, or get adventurous with chicken bacon ranch or taco. I've had almost all of them, and they're all fantastic. Expertly seasoned ingredients, generous with the meats (I once had a potato bacon pierogi from a different place with a single crumb-sized bacon bit in it... You won't find that here). I prefer them cooked well done, otherwise they can be a bit doughy. Sauteed onions and sour cream are a must. Cash only.
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
I had been looking for a new crepe place ever since my go-to closed in midtown Detroit - and I'm glad to have found it! The Kitchen has about 8 kinds of 9" dessert crepes (most named after local streets) for about $5 each (a great price considering the underwhelming offerings of a certain Ann Arbor crepes place). I had the Elvis Crepe (PB&J, chocolate, bananas). It's a delicious, filling crepe that two people can share, although you won't want to! I'll definitely be back to try more dessert crepes, the breakfast crepes ($6 each), and the pierogis ($1.5 each) -Cash only, closed on Sunday & Monday-
google avatar

Jordan D.

Yelp
Stopped in here yesterday for lunch. The shop is small and only has a few tables so that should give you a hint how good it is ha! Pierogi are $1.50 a piece and she has everything from the traditional that my grandma and aunts used to make, to taco and cheeseburger. I had the farmers, kraut, and potato and cheddar. These were unbelievable. She makes them with fresh grilled onion and sour cream. I suggest getting in early because it's a popular lunch spot. The pierogi are absolutely delicious and the staff is extremely friendly. I also shared a crepe which was also fantastic. Stop in and check it out!

Nathaniel G.

Yelp
The best spot in Wyandotte and downriver for pierogi and crape! They are made fresh and great prices. Very clean insider and friendly staff! Remember to bring cash.
