Google
Sara and the bakers at Little Red Hen were able to complete our vision of having a croquembouche at our Whidbey wedding! It wasn't something they normally do but they did a small trial for us and incorporated our feedback in the final version and it was perfect! The baker even added flowers in our wedding colors. Oh and their baked goods at the shop are great too!

Google
I asked the cashier for some recommendations of any popular items they still may have left (it was 30 mins til closing) and I ended up getting the almond croissant (with 27 layers!) and a cinnamon roll. Only thing I wish was asking for extra frosting cause it was so so good I could just eat it plain. Both were still delicious the next day. Everyone was very kind and the area is great to walk around, like exploring the wharf. I hope to come back soon!

After grabbing a cup of coffee down the street, I stopped by Little Red Hen Bakery for a pastry. It's a small shop and I wish I tried the bread. I got a Cardamom Roll. It was sweet and good. A little on the harder side as far as texture. Cute spot to sit outside and look towards the water.

Amazing pastries, and the curry meat pie is to die for. Employees are always very welcoming and friendly as well.

Google
I wish I could give this more than five stars. We went for the first time yesterday and got a large assortment of things. The meat pies were flaky and perfectly savory. The sweet danish was hands-down the best danish I've had in my life. The staff was friendly and efficient. I don't think I can ever eat another danish if it is not from Little Red Hen. I am thoroughly spoiled now.

Google
Nice little bakery in Coupeville near the water. hey have a good amount of pastries to choose from as well as loaves of bread. There's a nice little parking lot right next to the bakery. There are also lots of shops to walk around and check out after you get some pastries from here.

Google
Been meaning to visit for a while and my first time here in their new location did not disappoint! Everything was delightful on a weekend morning with hot coffee, but in particular the peaches and cream danish and the savory herb cheese danish with everything bagel seasoning and cherry tomatoes were supreme. Recommended to grab your snacks, walk down to the waterfront, find a nice spot and enjoy the view for the best experience :)

Google
Their baked goods won't disappoint. Bread, pastries, cookies, double thumbs up. Slightly slow service and there's almost always a wait. Go earlier in the day to get what you want because they do run out of goodies pretty quickly. It's that good!

Yelp
A must-stop if you're in Coupeville!!! It's a little shop, and everything is made fresh in-house. There might be a bit of a wait depending on when you go, but the line moves pretty quickly and it's totally worth it. This is more of a grab-and-go kind of spot, but there are a few seats and self-serve iced water outside. Their rosemary scone is probably the best one I've ever had. Not too sweet, and super flavorful. Don't miss this place!

Yelp
A quality, quaint bakery with a fun selection! We tried the: 1. Cardamom roll: a strong cardamom flavor and my favorite of the bunch. Would probably pair nicely with some orange jam. 2. Ham and cheese croissant: tasty and what you'd hope for in a croissant with many beautiful, flaky layers. 3. Chocolate chip cookie: a solid and satisfying cookie, no complaints here. 4. Cheese-it: tasted like a white cheddar cheese-it with a tad bit of spice! 5. The Queen Amann special: the apricot jam on this was SO good! I thought all of the pastries had a similar, bread-like taste to them. That being said, I bet they make wonderful bread and would love to try that another time!

Yelp
We were just passing through town and saw a crowd gathering here so stopped in to grab a quick bite. They only had outdoor seating but thankfully was a beautiful day. Dog friendly patio but for food safety leave furry friends outside. Walking inside I was initially thrown off because you essentially step right into the kitchen where the team was busy at work kneading and prepping the dough. Only later did I notice the counter tucked into the far right. All that said, the bread and pastries are truly made right there and extremely fresh. Highly recommend the walnut loaf!

Yelp
The place is small and you get to watch the employees baking. The person at the register was very nice and able to answer questions, even regarding other businesses in the area. We bought 3 cookies to enjoy on the ferry ride home. They were crunchy and rich. We all enjoyed our cookies and would visit again if in the area.

Yelp
Surprisingly nice bakery. The sourdough loaf is quite good. The cinnamon roll and molasses cookies were hits with the most discriminating critics in the family. The cardamom roll was disappointingly flavorless. Perhaps I have a higher tolerance for cardamom than most people. The staff were friendly. I will come again. I might avoid the cardamom roll and give that Kouign-amann a try next time.

Yelp
A cool crisp Saturday morning and we were out for a drive on Whitney island. Stopping in Coupeville to wander around and we stumbled going Little Red Hen. While we initially were interested in coffee, we walked in to an active bakery with a small display counter. And everything looked and smelled amazing. So what did we do...sample several products of course. Cardamom roll, savory danish (smoked salmon, cream cheese, on an everything layered crust) and an apple streusel scone. Simple perfect. The cardamom roll was a cross between a kouign aman and a cinnamon roll - so good. The savory danish version of an everything bagel was well done. And the scone - exactly what a scone should be Just off the main street this is a must visit if in Coupeville.

Yelp
We stopped here to pick up a small breakfast before going for a walk at the Price Sculpture Forest. We got there just a few minutes before open on a Saturday, and a line-up quickly formed behind us. I ended up with a Ham & Cheese Croissant, and it was frankly one of the best ones I've ever had. It was re-warmed, but still incredible flaky. A quality bakery that I would go back to. Note: it's takeout only, with outdoor tables if you want to stick around to eat.

Yelp
This was a cute bakery very close to the Coupeville waterfront, so we decided to stop for a couple of pastries. We decided on the lemon poppyseed tea cake and the cardamom roll. I thought that the lemon poppyseed cake was packed with lemon flavor, but the cardamom was lacking from the cardamom roll. They had some other items that looked very good, so I would gladly return to try those.
google avatar

Yelp
Yes to cardamom bun. It is magic, the lamination top notch, the sweetness understated - especially right out of the oven. Oh, there is other deliciousness. We will be back to take survey in the near future

Emma W.

Yelp
Delicious baked goods! I had a ham and cheese croissant which was excellent, especially warmed up. We got through the line and ordered with no issue, and the cashier was super helpful. My only note would be to ask that employees are slightly more cognizant of their topic choice when people are eating right next to the window - it was not a huge deal, but the necrophilia chat put us off of our eating just slightly.

Yelp
This review is for the recent experience here at the arts and crafts fair. Note this is just a few hours into the festival on Saturday. We had a table waiting later at Toby's but saw the line at LRH and decided to try it finally instead of going to a sit down lunch that might be a while till they called us. For the last couple years I've been hoping to try their beef pies as I'm a savory baked goods fan. The wife of course loves a good croissant or sweets and misses this from Paris. So we queued up and waited, waited, etc and two staff members were handling(or trying to) the counter out front and did not have much other help outside. The building was closed to customers during this busy time. So one was upbeat and trying the best she could. The other was fending off other requests by people in line and only serving beignets. When we ordered this role changed because the nice gal was swamped so the other took our order. It's just after noon but they were out of the beer pies.... There goes my lunch plans. So instead of trying a curried chicken and a beef pie to share we just ordered a pie and a croissant and waited.... Well they had orders and names confused but we everyday got our turn to find out they were out of croissants! So now she orders this smoked salmon danish. So we leave with a lame little lunch and the curried chicken pie was pretty good but not what I've been hoping to get since I learned of this business. They were trying to get a new location open and always either closed or horribly busy when we go to Coupeville. The smoked salmon danish was like a laminated sheet of puffy cardboard all dried out and chewy with some cream cheese and a lox slice in the middle. The everything bagel seasoning was the best thing about it. I would highly recommend people stay away from this chewy dry jaw exercise! Overall it was interesting to finally try this place but haven't still tried what we want to there. The staff members there were not very supported and one of them not very friendly or helpful. I wish Jupiter coffee would start making savory baked goods!

Yelp
Super tasty goodies! We came here on a Saturday morning. There was a fast moving line and very friendly, patient staff as we deliberated on what we were going to get. We were really there for their fantastic molasses oat bread ($9), which they were sadly sold out of that morning. (We were able to buy the last loaf at 3 Sisters Market). However, the other things we got more than made up for it. I love the curried chicken almond and currant meat pie ($10), although the pastry was a little thick, it was buttery and flaky. The cardamom roll ($5.75) was incredibly delicious. The smoked salmon and cream cheese danish ($10) was very filling but not too heavy, and the salmon portion was reasonable. The chocolate croissant ($6.75) was also appropriately chocolate-y and flaky and not too sweet. There was easy parking and lots seating outside.

Yelp
A tiny cute bakery where they prepare the breads and croissants right in front of you. No espresso drinks, but an extensive variety of baked goods. All their seating is outdoors with a view of the water in the distance. Friendly service. We ordered: 1. Bacon cheddar scallion scone 2. Chocolate croissant 3. Orange chocolate croissant 4. Almond croissant 5. Rosemary olive boule The scone was moist and the croissants were flaky goodness...but nothing was extraordinary. 3.5 stars

Yelp
Quaint little seaside bakery decked up for the holidays. You can see the bakers working upfront , measuring out the yeast and stacking fresh loaves of bread. Front desk was friendly and local. Food was buttery, rich & flakey. Loot check: 1. Apple pie- big portions; with hints of cinnamon & holidays. 2. Cheese danish- with raspberry jam crusted by candied pastry & studded with large sugar crystals. 3. Beef hand pie- Warming up my heart through that brown paper bag even now. Yum! Heat it up and it'll be the only things you'll need on a cold winters day!

Yelp
Good: what's not to love about hot and fresh baked goods? Stopped by yesterday to pick up some pastries for breakfast, so glad we did! We ordered the beef and potato hand pie and vegetarian quiche. Really loved that buttery flaky beef and potato hand pie. Quiche was decent too. Service: Fast and efficient with great attitudes! I love how warm and inviting everyone was. Ambiance: Warm, clean and homey vibes! Especially with the holiday season.

Yelp
They have a pastry called a Cheez-It. It's incredible and tastes just like a Cheez-It. Don't sleep on their lemon poppyseed cake or their scones, either. Very friendly staff as well.

Yelp
We always stop here when we vacation this way. Great little bakery with some really unique flavors! Keep up the great work!!!
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
This bakery has wonderful pastries, both sweet and savory, but we especially love their breads, some (maybe all) made with grains grown locally, just a few miles away. This time we got barley walnut bread, so good! Not to be missed.

Yelp
Nice little cafe in Coupeville. Had coffee and a Kouign Amann. Friendly service, tables outside, with a view.
google avatar

Laura B.

Yelp
Such a cute - and delicious! - bakery by the sea! I tried the cardamom roll and it did not disappoint! I grew up enjoying German baked goods that included cardamom so it was a familiar, memory-laden flavor. I loved seeing the bakers making more of their fresh wares while I waited. Note that they don't serve espresso or have indoor seating, but that's a small price to pay for amazing pastries!!

Daniel A.

Yelp
Great bakery in Coupeville, grab a pastry and stroll this quaint town. Maybe you'll get lucky and see a pod of orcas!

Yelp
This place Probably won't be open. But has some of the best food from a cafe that ive had.

Yelp
The whole point of our weekend trip culminated in our visit to the Little Red Hen Bakery, as my wife wanted to see Coupeville, and this particular shop specifically, for its connection to one of her favorite movies, Practical Magic. We walked up not long after their opening at 9:00am, and endured a short, rapidly moving line, standing in the drizzle, until it was our turn to order. My wife had the ham and cheese croissant, while I had the Romesco, kimchi, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich, with added hot peppers, tomato and hot sauce. Our order placed, we stood aside for a couple minutes, and our order was brought and handed to us shortly. Dude. My sandwich was perfect! Spicy and earthy, and a pretty darn good size; it filled me up for most of the morning, and it was everything I wanted in a breakfast sandwich, particularly to help take the edge off of a modest hangover! My wife similarly loved and raved about her ham and cheese croissant, walking away similarly happy and content! Sure, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are long gone, likely never to return again to Coupeville, and their little apothecary shop has become something entirely different, but the Little Red Hen Bakery is practically magic in its own little way. It certainly cast a spell over us, because we *will* be back!

Dee M.

Yelp
Had the apple pie scone - oh. Em. Gee!!! Sooooo delicious!! Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Definitely making another stop next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Maureen M.

Yelp
It's easy to understand why this place had a line out front. I had the molasses/ginger cookie at the recommendation of a young woman working there-- Deee-licious!
google avatar

Richard U.

Yelp
Amazing bakery! Stopped by on a visit to Coupeville and was so happy I did! The line out front was a pretty good indicator that I came to the right place! Stuff tried: Hashbrowns stuffed with cream cheese and chives. Whoa this was awesome! You can also get without stuffing but the cream cheese and chives worked perfectly! Cardamon bun: this was excellent as well! So much cardamom flavor and the texture was perfect! Ive had this recently at another bakery in Seattle but this was a lot better! Menu is ever changing so its best to just come by to see whats available for the day. I should have ordered more but I already ordered lunch elsewhere in town! Person working the register so helpful in navigating all the yummy options. With indoor dining still banned, there are steps that take you right to the water for a nice scenic snack! Maybe you will see a whale or a hungry seal or two. Must visit when in Coupeville!
google avatar

Janice N.

Yelp
The breads and the savory pastry with smoked salmon were fabulous! NOT: They do not have any indoor seating.

Yelp
From the words of my local friend: "this is the best bakery on the island." I agree, but I wouldn't say this is the best local bakery I've had compared to other locations around the world. Apparently there are only two bakeries on this island! I definitely think there's room to increase the supply for the bakery lovers' demand! The baker itself is tiny--not ideal for large groups that might be visiting, but a lot of folks took grub to go. The best spot is definitely the window view of the water right by the water station. Right when you walk in, the display case of baked goods look delicious. They have solid items like chocolate croissant, cookies, bread and the like. I had their chocolate chip cookie to go and the plain croissant in house. The croissant texture was perfect. When you ripped it open, you could see the little flakes of grain that went into making it. I'd suggest maybe having personnel wear hairnets though. They have serve-yourself water and other cafe drinks to purchase. Service was so friendly and very kind. However, the overall experience was a 3.5 stars. I think if there were other bakeries on the island, this one would be above average...but not stellar. There weren't any memorable items, rather it serves as a consistent shop for locals to purchase their loaves of bread and treat themselves to a cinnamon roll. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this bakery. It's not like Purebread in Vancouver or b.Patisserie in San Francisco...but that's because they're definitely a smaller work force with less demand and a smaller population of Whidbey folks to serve.
google avatar

Rana J.

Yelp
Molasses, Sourdough, Olive bread heaven. Still has baked goods but can no longer make made to order sandwiches or coffee. Staff shortages are a real thing and you can definitely see the changes here.
google avatar

Kimmi G.

Yelp
Whoa. I have to remember this place - kale breakfast sandwich + tomato and homemade hot sauce. Also... Freaking bury me inside one of their cinnamon rolls. The food was insanely delicious. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I will definitely be back and I couldn't recommend this place more highly !
google avatar

Yelp
The store is closed off and the cashier is set up right in front of the door for to-go orders. The staff weren't wearing masks but to be fair, it was during the peak of the heat dome and it looked like they only had a couple fans to keep cool. The staff were super nice despite the heat. There wasn't a seating area available with shade so most people took their food down the nearby stairs and ate on the beach. We were really lucky and grabbed an empty bench and table in the shade by the stairs. We got the kouign amann, a BLT, and a tuna sandwich. The pastry was perfectly flaky and light, and there was some jam in the center to provide a nice texture and flavor contrast. Some purists might take issue with that not being a true kouign amann, but it was tasty! The BLT had a ton of bacon. We were trying to go for a light meal after packing on the Pandemic 19 so this was unexpected. But as bacon lovers, it was still appreciated. The tuna sandwich was light on the mayo, yummy, and felt like one of the healthier options on the menu.

Yelp
Sweet little bakery in the picturesque town of Coupeville, with both sweet and savory options, as well as fresh loaves and warm drinks. On the pricier side. Definitely worth checking out on your way up to Deception Pass! Raspberry hand pie: Taste - 5/5; very flaky, rich crust with a light dusting of cardamom sprinkles and tart, plentiful filling Buy again - yes! Awesome texture, flavor, and crust-to-filling ratio Ham, cheddar, scallion scone Taste - 4/5; buttery, flavorful, dense Buy again - no. Though enjoyable, didn't find it compelling, perhaps because it's such a tried and true flavor combination? Cardamom bun Taste - 4/5; layers of slightly caramelized pastry delicately flavored with cardamom Buy again - no. Lamination and cardamom flavor on point, but a bit dry Overall: 4/5. Slightly pricey, cute little bakery offering an above average selection of impressively baked goods. Recommend swinging by to pick up a treat on your way to a hike on Deception Pass.
google avatar

Gracie Z.

Yelp
It was just ok. Everything was pretty dry. Croissants could have been good but so dry. It would have been nice if they heated the stuff up for us like the ham and cheese croissant. Granted we came right before they closed for the day. One of the reasons we went was because we thought they were in the shop from practical magic. Turns out they moved last year from the practical magic house . Not really their fault but something to note if that's why you're going there too.

Yelp
A sweat rustic little local bakery serving with love some amazing breakfast sandwiches. We had the Ham and eggs on an English muffin. The line went done the street in an otherwise sleepy town which means a lot. Situated and an 1871 building this amazing establishment has it all. The vibe the service and the food. We couldn't help ourselves so took also some artisan bread as well as well two cinnamon rolls for later. Coffee is first class too! Definitely a place to hit if your looking for the whole 9 yards.
google avatar

Tim A.

Yelp
Hard to find up a side road, but worth the search. We had the hot meat pies (beef and potato) which were a little salty, but still very good. But they were nothing compared to the nectarine cream cheese danish! OMG was it good. We could have just filled up on those. The sourdough chocolate chip cookie was good too... but did I mean toon the nectarine cream cheese danish?!? Next time you are in or near Coupeville, WA do your taste buds a favor and stop by this place!
google avatar

Brooke B.

Yelp
Happened upon this adorable bakery while visiting Coupeville, and noticed the long line of customers as we drove in. Once we mosied over an hour later, we were happy to find they still had a lot of delicious pastries still available. The coffee was also excellent! Everything was delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
we love this place! we have gone every saturday for three months!! friendly staff and great food! their creamcheese is addicting 23$ for all of this ! cant beat the prices here(:
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
It was super cool walking in and seeing the process of them making the baked goods, the cashier was the owner I believe and was quick to help and enthusiastic. The apple pie was DELICIOUS! the items were carefully crafted to look beautiful and taste just that perfect amount of sweet. I'm so happy to have an option like this if I don't have time to make it homemade!
google avatar

Kelly N.

Yelp
Came here twice in our short visit to the area it was so good! I think we lucked out that there weren't lines out the door when we visited, but I can definitely see why there would be. Everything is incredibly fresh - the pies, cinnamon rolls, pastries and breakfast sandwiches. They offer both sweet and savory pies, so a definite must for any New Zealander hankering for a taste of down under. The cinnamon rolls are also excellent, with no morsel left behind including the cream cheese frosting.
google avatar

Yurtle T.

Yelp
Clean, old fashioned feeling, cozy, woody, overlooking the water and gulls, friendly staff, great smells, quiet music ... and good baking to boot. We tried 2 savory things, 3 different drinks (hotLavender Chai, triple cap and triple latte), a bunch of sweet bakes, and candied bacon. Everything was excellent - including a flaky hand-held pie crust. This bakery is someone's pride and joy.

Leslie K.

Yelp
We cannot live without Little Red Hen's sourdough! We love their bread subscription so much!
google avatar

Austin G.

Yelp
Little Red Hen Bakery is a cafe in Coupeville along the water. My daughter and I went during the Arts and Crafts Festival and found a long line of people waiting for food. Despite the line, it flowed quickly. We ordered breakfast sandwiches for lunch and only had to wait 20 minutes despite the crowds. The sandwiches were delicious and we enjoyed them along the water!
google avatar

Madeleine D.

Yelp
Did you even go to Whidbey Island if you don't stop by Little Red Hen Bakery?! Look people - this is the best stop on the island for a mid-morning treat. Savory or sweet LRHB has got you. On our most recent trip we picked up a sourdough chocolate chip cookie, a chocolate croissant, a ham and cheese croissant a BEC breakfast sandwich and a kale and goat cheese breakfast sandwich. So yummy I can't wait to come back! P.s - this place gets crazy busy in the high season so be prepared for a line/a wait if you come between June-September. Be patient - it's worth it!
google avatar

Ben S.

Yelp
Stopped by Little Red Hen for an afternoon pick me up on our walk through Coupeville. They were not yet seating people inside, but we received prompt and friendly service from the order counter. We opted just for coffee beverages, though they had a bunch of baked treats that looked pretty good. My cold brew was pretty delicious. I'd come back to sample more of their menu.
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
The Little Red Hen Bakery is a must-visit when in Coupeville. Their Ginger Molasses Cookie is to die for. The Sourdough bread I brought home recently was a hit. To top it all off, I really appreciate the friendly folks who work here whenever I visit. Don't miss this place!
google avatar

Derek F.

Yelp
I love this bakery, their pastries and breakfast sandwiches are amazing, you must try their beignets! The only drawback is how long it takes to get your food, each time they tell me it will be 15-20 minutes and each time I've gone it's over half an hour before I get my food. I still give them a 5 star review though because the food is worth the wait.

Kate P.

Yelp
I LOVE this bakery. I live in Seattle and come to whidbey about 4 Or 5 times a year and this bakery is a BIG part of why. Everything I have ever had has been exceptional. I love their chocolate chip cookie, their lemon poppy bread, their scones, their rotating savory danishes and croissants. When they had sandwiches (please bring them back!) the kimchi egg sandwich was the perfect breakfast. Current obsession is the Reuben croissant. They have always had a warm and inviting staff. I just wish They were closer to me!

Yelp
Delicious bakery items. The candy bacon is a must have!! Everything there has been incredible.
