This is up town! All the food is Delicious. Prices are not cheap, but judging from the clientele, fair. Clean, easy to get to, and a good place to kick back with friends. Patio is dog friendly. Specific help clean up the tables a bit fast, but the number of patrons was enormous for lunch. At times the clean up crew were removing silverware that was still in use. Table turnover is rapid. Ordering is done by central desk which immediately asks for tips. This is one of my pet peeves...there was no service! Why are they asking for tips. No waiters, waitress, you get your own drinks, you bring the food back to your table, you get your own condiments and refills. Are we tipping the cooks? Management? Or giving to the Red Cross. Tipping is clearly out of control! Other than cleaning the tables at the speed of sound there is no service. You get your own food ( yes, it's good) and are given a pager.
Ambiance is near the bottom of the list. There are the usual beer lit signs, one or two TVs ( which weren't on), a few funny metal signs with laughable sayings on them. Clearly not a bar to reflect on the day, unless you're on the patio where it's a little loose-er. Inside its assembly time with tables at a premium. Slam, bang, get you out. This place has got to be a cash cow! Now it is on Channel 2s Chris Shephard's, "eat like a local" and the food is good. But, ambiance and service-- well, do it yourself. On that Segment this is suppose to be one of the great Chicken Fried Steak places and truthfully I was not disappointed. The cobbler (la la mode) was also outstanding. Sides were sides, well done but that wasn't why I was here. The cream gravy was also excellent. There's been a couple of times that I have conflicted with Sheppard's review. Not this time! He nailed it!
