I recently had the pleasure of visiting Live Oak Grill, and it truly felt like stepping into a charming small-town mom-and-pop restaurant, which I absolutely loved. The atmosphere was incredibly inviting, with plenty of seating options, including a lovely outdoor patio with a small playground – perfect for families! The ample parking made our visit completely stress-free from the start. My culinary journey began with the onion rings, and I must say, they were superb! Large, with a perfect crunch and just the right amount of batter, they were an absolute highlight and I highly recommend them. For my main course, I tried the chicken fried steak, and it was genuinely one of the best I've ever had. The meat was incredibly tasty, and the breading held perfectly without being overly salty. I also sampled the cilantro dressing with a salad, and its fresh, vibrant flavor truly brought the dish to life. The service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall pleasant experience. Despite a large menu with many options, the dishes I tried were full of flavor and clearly made with care. Live Oak Grill is definitely a wonderful spot to gather with family or friends for a relaxed and delicious meal. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to explore more of their offerings!

First time here..in town for work and I like mom and pop places.. you walk in and its like a super country old house.. the atmosphere is great. The lady at the register to order was super helpful. I had the pulled pork sandwich with cheesy fries and fried pickles.. everything was good..I would go back if I was here longer.. but if your in Stafford Texas you should check it out.

Wonderful place to eat. Real cozy and clean. Great family gathering environment and pet friendly. ..Texas size chicken fried chicken, loaded mashed potatoes, signature beans and gravy is delicious!

Lotsss of options! I feel it was slightly overwhelming but tons of options for everyone. Workers were very friendly and kind during ordering. The portions are huge! 3 people couldn’t finish the loaded fries with boneless wings. Lunch time is pretty hectic with lots of people but still able to find a table and it wasn’t too loud inside as well. Parking lot is also big so no worries with that!

The Chicken Fried Steak and the Chicken Fried Chicken were phenominal. The two sides that came with each one were just as tasty. Each entree came with two sides. We enjoyed the green beans, fried okra and the fried onion rings. The fried onion rings and the fried okra had a slight upcharge and they were worth it. The white gravy we got was dipping heaven, came in a small container. Most places just pour a dab on the steak, makes the steak a little soggy and they don't give enough.....another thing this place does right! We've been here before...14 years ago....why did we take so long to come back for more of these goodies!? They have a nice playground.

I’ve been eating at Live Oak Grill in Sugar Land for the last five years since it’s close to work, and it’s become one of my favorite spots. I’ve tried many different dishes, and the homestyle cooking always hits the spot. The atmosphere is welcoming and laid-back, and when the weather is nice, their outdoor seating under the oak trees makes the experience even better. Whether you’re here for a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner, it’s a great local place that never disappoints.

This feels like a small town mom and pop restaurant. Order at the counter, get a beeper and pick a table. There are plenty of rooms including outdoor tables with a tiny playground for kids to play. The menu is large with too many options. Is ever good? I don’t know. It’s my 1st time here. 1. Onion rings were large, with thick rings and just enough batter to a pleasant crunch but not too much where you wonder where is the onion. I definitely recommend the onion rings. 2. The Swiss Mushroom burger was a good size patty. Unfortunately it wasn’t hot anymore which means it’s probably been sitting in the pass likely waiting for the onion rings. Because of that I drowned it in ketchup and Heinz 57 to Mae it more palatable. 3. Tried Simone’s fried pickles. Wasn’t too sour and had a pleasant crunch. If you’re into this it’s worth getting. Overall, it’s a good place to bring a family or friends just to hang out and get something pleasant to eat.

Google
Good place to eat- we saw this on local eats on YouTube. We came to try this from a two hour drive and we got the chicken fried steak - Texas size for the price I thought it would be bigger. Good taste of the fried steak. Kelly’s has the same price and super bigger. The macaroni was watery and dripping all over. The pecan salad looked super good on YouTube but my wife wasn’t really happy with it. The cilantro dressing was very good gave the salad life. For the dessert we had the pecan Italian crème cake- it was dry, not much frosting. Didn’t eat most of it.

Yelp
Awesome lunch here today! Got the beef tacos... and they were great but everything our crew got looked good. They even serve koolaid to drink! Highly recommend and will come back!

Yelp
Great place for the whole family to grab a meal before a Space Cowboys game! Their menu is pretty extensive but after reading a lot of reviews mentioning burgers I opted for the Diablo burger with side of fries. Great tasting patty with a good amount of kick from the pickled Serrano peppers paired with the Diablo chipotle sauce. I really liked that kids meals came with fruit cup (mandarin oranges), yogurt, or apple sauce. This place has plenty of seatings inside and out. We took a table in the covered dog friendly patio area that was kept at generously cool temps. Beyond the plastic barrier that keeps out the Texas heat you'll find a kids playground and additional tables with umbrellas. Major highlight and props for this place being and encompassing all aspects of family friendly!

Yelp
I was in the mood for some good ole Southern cooking while in the Sugarland area. My trusty Yelp machine pointed me in the direction of Live Oak Grill. My dinner date and I arrived later in the evening so parking and finding seats was no issue at all. This place has that country feel to it outside with a lots of patio seating and little knickknacks all over the place. They also have a nice playground so the kiddos can let off some steam while the adults do their thing. Live Oak Grill is also a counter service type establishment. Peruse the menu, order at the counter and wait for your food. I don't mind that whatsoever. That being said, the little interaction with the staff was good. One thing I absolutely love when it comes to Southern cooking is a properly done Chicken Fried Steak. It's one of those ultimate comfort foods. I went with that and it came with two sides. This was an indulgent meal already so I added insult to injury and went with two starches. You just can't go wrong with mashed potatoes and mac & cheese as your sides. It also came with a roll and a choice of brown or white gravy. I think I'm the minority because I prefer brown over white with my CFS. The food came out fairly quick and was nice and hot. I went straight for the CFS without gravy and let me tell you, that was a delicious bite on it's own. The gravy wasn't needed, but it also didn't hurt as it was delicious too. The CFS was cooked to perfection, crunchy on the inside, tender inside. The batter was seasoned really well also. The sides were ok, nothing to write home about. I tried a bite of the pecan crusted chicken salad as well and this was really good. If you're looking for something a little more of the lighter side, I would suggest that. We also tried some of their cookies and they were delicious as well. Overall, I'm glad we tried this spot out. It's a little out of the way for me or else I would be back often. I will be back though!

Yelp
This is a great casual place to enjoy a quick tasty meal. As they say in their description, the food is simplr but there's a great variety. I've had the fish and chicken sandwiches and the ribs and all were very good. It's counter service, take a buzzer and pick up at the counter. I've always been there on weekends and it's busy but no problem finding a parking spot or a table. The staff is very friendly and attentive and your food comes out pretty quickly. Nice outside seating area, and a play space in the back for the kiddos. Portions are generous. Reasonable selection of canned and bottled beers in the cooler.

Yelp
This place has been bookmarked for the longest time and finally made it out. Plenty of parking and country feel. They have a little play slide area outdoors for kids to play (though watch out for the woodchips!). Once inside, you can see the menu and order at the counter before seating. Country fried steak and burger was solid. They do have some benches in an extended area of the restaurant that's covered. Overall, a solid option in the area.

Yelp
This is a vegetarian sandwiches review. We had the black bean burger and portobello mushroom. There sandwiches were overall ok, but nothing to rave about and come back. I prefer the portobello mushroom more than the black bean. The onion rings were great though. Batter was well done. Hope they can have more selection of tastier vegetarian sandwiches.

Yelp
Came for lunch because of how many solid reviews there are. It must be more of a local favorite because I totally do not understand the hype surrounding any of the food we had. The menu is extensive, which is always a bit of a red flag in terms of the quality of each dish. We grabbed the steak sandwich, which was essentially a piece of meh steak stuck in a hot dog bun with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and a chipotle sauce. Physically difficult to eat. Every sandwich option comes with mayo, which I would preferred to have a bit more variety. We grabbed the burger, which was really just a fine burger of the quality I probably could've made in someone's back yard. The fries were okay... and the side of green beans was actually surprisingly one of the better aspects of the meal but I suspect the way it's cooked diminishes any health benefits you may expect from choosing this over the fries. Also grabbed a side of the gumbo, which was fine. There is a ton of seating. The outdoor area is actually fairly cute, with 3 separate swing seats and a bunch of picnic tables. It was too windy to open the umbrella (we, as well as many other tables, tried and were promptly told to close them). I think if you work in the area it's probably a fine option for brunch but as we were visiting Houston, it certainly was not worth the drive outside the city to venture to.

Yelp
Visiting from California and came here with Family residing in Texas. Did NOT disappoint. Our server (sorry that I didn't get her name . Ticket #234). We had many questions wanting to know their most popular entrees and she recommended. We also made several changes for the sides . She was gracious , knowledgeable, and patient. Lovely smile and energy . We were ordering for 4. Our order came out perfect. The food was to die for! Yum to the nth degree !! I had the chicken fried chicken with the sweet corn and special bean mixture sides. The chicken was lightly fried to perfection and tender and seasoned delectable to the taste buds. The sweet corn was just rightly sweetened and the beans were a nice mixture of protein goodness. Friendly atmosphere . A welcoming ambiance rooted in southern , Texan hospitality . A must for one visiting Sugarland, Texas.

Yelp
Came here for lunch, place was busy but they have it all under control. Ordered a burger medium and in less than 10 minutes it was ready. Cooked perfectly, hot, and juicy. An assortment of branded condiments, with the exception of ketchup. When you buy Blue Plate mayo you know they care about ingredients. Restaurant was clean and at a good temp. Everyone was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
One of the local favorites of Sugar Land, Live Oak Grill provides a laid back, family-friendly atmosphere, with a pretty extensive menu. The food is consistent and the kids menu is a great value with generous portions. The covered patio actually gets quite cold inside even on warm days. The little playground area which is gated provides the kids a place to run around and entertain themselves, giving the parents an opportunity to eat and even chat with fellow parents. We will definitely be back as this place is a great spot for easy and convenient playdates.

Yelp
What a great lunch place. Counter service so pretty fast. TONS of options. BBQ, Salads, Burgers, Tacos, Fish, chicken and all huge portions. Onion rings bigger than your hand. Outdoor and indoor seating with lots of country decor and a playground out back.
google avatar

Melanie L.

Yelp
The green beans were very plain, not seasoned at all. The chicken fried steak was flavorful, the Philly cheese steak po boy was excellent, tender and full of flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
I had the best avocado toast ever here. The staff was so kind and hardworking and the environment was great for families with kids. Prices were reasonable given the current economy.

Yelp
Very great food and good service. Definitely will come back here again! This outdoor space is lovely.

Yelp
A casual, chill and family friendly restaurant. We appreciate so much of the outdoor playground for kids, it made it so much easier for families with children to enjoy their meals here, and it's gated! The menu is extensive, they also offer weekend specials. From classic breakfast plates and skillets, lunch entrees to dessert options, from comfort food to healthy meals, you'll for sure find something you love here. Food is great, portions are big, every dish we ordered was delicious and satisfying. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Went for lunch last week. They have really big menu. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Everything was very good, one of the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. All of the employees were also very helpful and friendly

Yelp
I love a good burger and online said this was one of the best in the area! We got a wide range of items and everybody liked what they ordered. As you can see in the picture the servings are massive. A lot of us took food home! Ambiance is great with an old timey feel and funny signs all over. We went on a Friday night and it was busy but had no trouble finding a seat. It was good and I would come back but would probably try another restaurant or two first.

S K.

Yelp
The chicken fried steak was so good. As well as the corn and onion rings. I will definitely be back to try something else on their extensive menu choices.

Yelp
Amazing food combinations, they have a huge menu of other options. Everyone was helpful it first time here so we had questions overall a great spot , heck even the bus boys were super friendly. You can tell it's a spot where usuals frequent local too. We really enjoyed this spot, we will definitely be returning. They also do breakfast which we will try next time.

Brian E.

Yelp
This is a great spot! My wife and I both had blackened salmon and it was delicious. The collard greens were great too! It can get a bit crowded, but everything moves quickly. I love eating here when I am in the area.

Yelp
I am impressed with this spot. It is off the beaten path and never would have spotted it. I had the Grilled Pork Chops and my god how tender they (2) ea were. I was surprised at the tenderness. I wish I knew how the cook them or marinated them. That with mash potatoes filled me up easily. I couldn't eat the salad that came with. They have a large menu, and I must come back for more. The Chicken fried steak looks to be a big seller and large portion.

Yelp
TLDR: awesome joint. Great for larger parties (8-12+). Give it a try once - you won't regret it! The food was good (pretty hard to mess up chicken tortillas) with pretty decent portion sizes. However, what set the Live Oak Grill apart was the atmosphere: there was a quirky, modern aesthetic with lots of seating area and plenty of tables & chairs. (Thus, it's good for hosting families and larger parties of 8-12+.) I liked how they kept the music volume low so we could easily have a conversation. There is also outdoor seating with 5-10 picnic benches on a well-lit gravel patio and a quaint swinging bench. The service is pretty standard: food was out in about 10 minutes. You pay at the counter and they'll give you a little buzzer that notifies you when the food's ready. All in all, I'd give this place 4.5 stars if I could, but I'd unquestionably recommend trying it out once!

Yelp
GREAT place to eat....great tasting food, good service, very fair prices. This is now our favorite restaurant!!!

Johnny S.

Yelp
Good place to eat and a friendly atmosphere! They have a variety of different foods on the menu.

Yelp
We had an old fashioned burger, and a patty melt, our food was so fresh and hot. This place is cute and clean. The cashiers very friendly.I will definitely go back to this place.

Yelp
My parents took us out for lunch today (apparently they come here every Friday) Food is always yummy. Today the wife and I split the Spicy fish sandwich and the shrimp quesadillas. All were yummy...I I had to pick (it's very close) but I would roll with the shrimp quesadillas...but I would definitely get the fish sandwich again (it's freaking huge) Cashier was nice and the cooks, well...they were cookin' ‍ The bussers are extremely nice. The vibe is cool. You can eat inside or the patio. Don't worry, the patio has plastic walls to protect us from the heat. The patio also has AC. If you didn't know, there's a little playground out in the back. It's pretty cool. Well definately return.
google avatar

Yelp
I grew up not far from here and it took me my whole life to finally come try it. Wow, I'm coming back just for the chicken tenders on the chicken and waffles. They were seasoned so so well. Big fluffy waffle. The biscuits are buttery and fluffy and the potatoes were so so crispy. They did forget our onion rings and fries and i didn't realize until I was done with my meal so I'll have to come back to try those. It's a counter service so you order and get a buzzer. Everyone was happy with their meals and big portions! They have lots of outdoor and indoor seating as well as a small playground which is nice.

Yelp
The only reason I give 4 rating is the self serve aspect of this wonderful restaurant. Food us excellent and the staff us hilarious in a good way! Ask about the free beer tomorrow soecial!
google avatar

Yelp
Consistency good food! Atmosphere is terrific and it has a real country feel. The service is quick and easy!

Yelp
Live Oak Grill is a great spot for lunch or dinner. The menu offers a great variety of dishes. The food is fresh and tasty. The environment is casual and friendly.

Yelp
Food and service were great. We will definitely be back when we are in the area! They have an outdoor area for the kids, and it was fun watching them play as ours are out of the house now. Great ambiance

Yelp
A cute little place where you order at the counter and pick it up when it's ready. The food is excellent and BIG! I had chicken fried chicken that was so tender it could be cut with a fork.

LaRee M.

Yelp
Family friendly restaurant. Food was great! Service was quick! We sat in the back near the playground where the children were able to run around and enjoy themselves with other children.
google avatar

Melissa A.

Yelp
I love this place. I can't say enough about it. I wish more families with kids knew and brought them here. My son enjoys the playground. The food is great, everything I've eaten here is great. It's clean. The patio is enclosed with AC in the summer and that's so great. The service is awesome and fast! But I recommend the burgers, fries are yummy, chicken strips are large and southern crispy as advertised! And of-course the pecan crusted chicken salad. I ate the food too fast to post photos (yes I ate a bit of all of this today) but here is the playground.

Rita B.

Yelp
Al pastor empanadas were a 10/10--absolutely delicious! Highly recommend pairing them with margaritas!

Burns B.

Yelp
Love the food but be aware they short to-go orders. You'll get about 2/3's the food in the to-go order compared to a dine-in order for the same price. Happens consistently and management needs to fix this. Getting tired of it.
google avatar

Matouš P.

Yelp
Always a solid choice. Many tasty and varied options for starters and entrees. When you want something good, but nobody can decide what..... This is a great go to. Order at the counter, get a buzzer, pick up your food at the counter. Lots of indoor seating as well as a dog friendly front patio. I would give it five stars if they brought your food the table.

Sara G.

Yelp
Came for breakfast and the fish and cheesy grits were delicious! Eggs & huge piece of fish cooked so perfectly. Cheesy grits were some of the best I've ever had and I'm super picky about grits. Restaurant was empty and service was excellent at about 10:30am on a Wednesday.

Tara B.

Yelp
The food is not great..very bland. The service was horrible. We so wanted to like it. We have gone multiple times because it has an outdoor play area. It's just not worth going. They nickle and dime you for everything. I mean everything is extra. I have no care paying for good food or service that's why we eat out often but this place is just not good at all. The counter staff are horrible especially a man that was taking our order. He was so utterly rude. We have tried too many times to like it but it's a big no for us. Save your money there are so many much better places to go.
google avatar

Robert Petty ..

Yelp
I would call this one a hidden gem. Nice casual restaurant, some seating outside, and they have a great prime rib. I have not had anything I didn't like from their menu. Also can customize to what they can to satify the customer. Means a lot to me since I am on a low sodium diet. BR

Ken J.

Yelp
The food is always good and fresh. Chicken tenders are always good. There are friendly cashiers taking orders. The restaurant is always clean.
google avatar

Renie D.

Yelp
The prices are high and the food is mediocre. I have tried many items and I come back to... not worth it.

Conrad E.

Yelp
Went here when visiting Texas. They are a perfect place for carnivores and omnivores seeking Texas meat dishes (California/Oregon type Vegans this place is not for you). They prepare each plate with care and detail paying attention to making their steaks, burgers, and other foods properly. I got the regular sized Chicken Fried Steak (they have a Texas sized one which I'm assuming is huge) it was cooked just right with great attention paid to the coating and flavoring. The place is also reasonably priced considering the cuts of meat they serve. It's definitely worth a meal if in the Houston/Sugar Land area.

Gloria C.

Yelp
Food was excellent and atmosphere was casual and comfortable. Plenty of room outside and inside also. Kid friendly. Gotta give it a try and you'll be hooked.
google avatar

Marce C.

Yelp
I really like this place, but I would recommend to the chef careful with the seasoning. Food is sometimes too salty. Every time we go my children can't eat their fries because they are too salty. Same with the grilled fish I had. Goodness the sodium level was just toooo much.

Ralph B.

Yelp
This is up town! All the food is Delicious. Prices are not cheap, but judging from the clientele, fair. Clean, easy to get to, and a good place to kick back with friends. Patio is dog friendly. Specific help clean up the tables a bit fast, but the number of patrons was enormous for lunch. At times the clean up crew were removing silverware that was still in use. Table turnover is rapid. Ordering is done by central desk which immediately asks for tips. This is one of my pet peeves...there was no service! Why are they asking for tips. No waiters, waitress, you get your own drinks, you bring the food back to your table, you get your own condiments and refills. Are we tipping the cooks? Management? Or giving to the Red Cross. Tipping is clearly out of control! Other than cleaning the tables at the speed of sound there is no service. You get your own food ( yes, it's good) and are given a pager. Ambiance is near the bottom of the list. There are the usual beer lit signs, one or two TVs ( which weren't on), a few funny metal signs with laughable sayings on them. Clearly not a bar to reflect on the day, unless you're on the patio where it's a little loose-er. Inside its assembly time with tables at a premium. Slam, bang, get you out. This place has got to be a cash cow! Now it is on Channel 2s Chris Shephard's, "eat like a local" and the food is good. But, ambiance and service-- well, do it yourself. On that Segment this is suppose to be one of the great Chicken Fried Steak places and truthfully I was not disappointed. The cobbler (la la mode) was also outstanding. Sides were sides, well done but that wasn't why I was here. The cream gravy was also excellent. There's been a couple of times that I have conflicted with Sheppard's review. Not this time! He nailed it!
