On the Grid : Livestock

"A true original that brings specialized streetwear influenced by urban culture to the Roncy strip. It's not unusual to see a tribe sneaker heads camped out front in anticipation of the latest NIKE release. Inside, rows of coveted kicks sit like royalty on illuminated surfaces. The space itself is a contemporary design dream. Head to the back to see Livestock's exclusive house brand of hyper-functional and innovative sportswear, Illustrated Example. Basically, check it out or miss out." - Sarah Di Domenico

1 - You guys seriously need a change in policy with returned item. I bought a pair of shoes that had clearly been returned (dirty outsoles), laced looking like bananas. Can you at least try to put it back to its original shape before selling them again😅? 2 - If there is a shoe release that requires a lineup, instruct the genius at the door to ask if the customers are there for a pick up. This savant made me wait in line, despite me telling him I wasn't there for said release but just a pick up. When I finally got in his co-worker, a logical individual, even commented that I shouldn't have waited in line😂. Complete lack of efficiency.

Spent most of my paycheques at Livestock (deadstock.ca) for as long as I can remember, and met some very decent people along the way. Management is committed to delivering excellent customer service and providing a pleasant shopping experience. The majority of my most coveted adidas sneakers were purchased from Livestock, including their very own /// collaboration - the Oregon Ultra Tech Gore-Tex (pic attached). A+

Awesome location! Really looks like a smaller store from the outside but once you go in it really opens up and stretches back far. Very clean modern professional set up with great selection of brands and accessories!! Definitely a place to check out.

Disrespectful staff. Don't bother going to this store. Raffles are rigged and backdoored to their buddies. Staff won't even acknowledge you and will be too busy having conversations. Don't spend your money here, go to a better sneaker store.

The negative reviews check out. In-store, there is an ok selection of clothes and shoes, but the employees seem more interested in talking amongst themselves rather than actually helping customers. Ordering online was a heinous experience. My order took more than 3 weeks to arrive and they ended up sending me the wrong item. Customer service was quick to respond, but made it sound like they were doing me a favour by waiving the return courier fee rather than owning the mistake. Livestock has really gone downhill. I grew up loving the old Spadina location, but now I’d much rather order from Ssense or support a local business like Lost & Found on Ossington. Really surprised by their lacklustre customer service and painful online experience considering how much they’ve grown over the years. Update: Imagine if they put as much effort into improving customer experiences as they did into responding to reviews in a timely manner.

I loved my experience at Livestock!! I’m not the biggest shoe head but Josh really helped me pick a pair of running shoes that was comfortable and fit my needs in terms of budget and style fit. I would definitely recommend going back if you need a good pair!

Needed help with an order. Jessolina was amazing. Helped me track down my order from 6 months ago and did with grace, patience, and kindness. She went the extra mile to make sure I was good. Thank you, guys!!!!

Products are great, customer service is garbage. Late shipments and no reply to concerns. Such a shame. If you are concerned about your shipments and they haven’t reply to your emails, make sure to start a case against them through pay pal or your credit card company…..they’ll reply right away once that’s done.

Yelp
If you aren't remotely in touch with your inner sneaker geek and have no interest in sneaker or streetwear culture, then you probably have no idea that Livestock exists. But for those who don't fit that description, this Canadian menswear shop is definitely on your radar. With locations in both Vancouver and Toronto, they've been a staple location for exclusives and hard to find, rare sneakers since way back. The emphasis at this location in particular is high end mens fashion. Display shelves are sparsely distributed throughout the store so that you can walk around and interact with various lines of products. Upscale and expensive is definitely the trend, with most of the inventory costing in the $100 and up range. That's to be expected though, as they sell world renowned brands such as Nike, adidas, puma, Reigning Champ, Garbstore, and more. From front to back this store is designed to the nines, with so much breathable space surrounding every product. Sunlight reaches almost midway into the store, which is when you realize just how big and deep it is. There's a balcony and some stairs overlooking a 'pit' which is stocked exclusively with cut and sew pieces. They've put a lot of thinking into this location, and the staff are helpful and courteous. A bit out of the way, for sure, but this is definitely a good place to check out if you're in the area.

Yelp
I've purchased from LS for years and years, and have heard every store from A-Z. I've had my fair share of bad experiences online and at the other location, but the staff at this location have always been fantastic with me. I saw a pair of shoes go up that my girlfriend wanted which were botted in a few seconds, and I called this location who let me pay over the phone to secure a pair considering I was driving from Hamilton.

Yelp
I absolutely love the selection. I would rate 3 stars if they have stock in popular sizes. Or maybe 4 stars if they can EVER make me feel welcomed at the store. :/ After a few visits I decided not to come back to this location.

Yelp
The latest Livestock location -- not sure whether to call it "Livestock Roncesvalle" or "Livestock Round 6" as posted on the store front. I guess Round 6 sorta makes sense -- 3 locations in Vancouver, one on Spadina, they are counting one as their online store -- I guess they rather forget the failed Alberta expansion. And now it's en vogue to called Toronto the "6ix"... and if you really want to get into the numbers... the street address is '604' reversed. Anyways, it's the similar product and staff you can find at the Spadina location -- but in a even sleeker storefront. They seem to be de-emphasizing the whole 'sneaker store' aesthetic and going for more of a menswear boutique as the shoes displays are scattered throughout and in-between clothing and accessories. The location sorta confuses me. Roncesvalles/Howard Park is an odd choice -- the center of the local Polish community isn't exactly the first thing that comes to much when you're thinking of a sneaker boutique and young men's fashion/technical wear. Perhaps the rent in Parkdale is too high and too on-the-nose? Not a lot of foot traffic either and not a great location to draw customers in the burbs in -- seems like a good area for a family, but not much else. However, for shops like this -- if you build it, they will come. I honestly looked at property in the surrounding area -- and it's decently priced... and my dreams of getting in early on some property before shops like Livestock opened up in formerly-sketchy Vancouver Gastown and made the area 'cool' and super expensive. I guess I don't really got the point. My first guess was that they were just trying to establish a foothold in Roncesvalles before they moving/closing the Spadina location -- but that doesn't really make sense either -- they've made Spadina & Camden the one-stop shop for streetwear kids with Adrift and LL nearby. Oh well, if I got it, I would be running a successful sneaker boutique brand. Probably the best decor of all the Livestock I've been to. But let's be honest, the biggest draw is the exclusive product -- and so far, it seems like they are strategically allocating/limiting some sneaker releases to this location. Also, they were running private screenings of various 'culture' movies down the street at Revue Cinema before the 'official' launch. Overall, still love the Livestock crew in Vancouver and the Toronto crew is more aloof (but I'm older now, so I'm not sneaker-whale I once was). If you need nice sneakers, head to your nearest Livestock. But for a odd location and being so far for my old bones -- 3/5 stars.

Yelp
My husband and I went in here on a Saturday after 6pm. No one was in the store but a sloppy blonde associate sitting behind the front desk talking to her fellow male sales associate. They were busy in conversation and glanced our way but did not even acknowledge our entrance. As we looked around, there was a pair of shoes my husband wanted to try on. We were at the back of the store and the entire time neither associates asked if we needed help. I went to the front to ask the blonde associate to get a pair of the shoes for my husband to try on. She casually walked back and I pointed out the shoe my husband was interested in, she didn't actually even walk to the shoes themselves but stood 10ft away and then told us know the only size left was the one on the shelf. Although the tag on the inside of the shoe indicated many sizes were available, she said they didn't have time to update the size cards in the shoe (although she had plenty of time for casual conversations with her fellow employee). She didn't ask if she could help in any other way but just walked back to continue her conversation with the male associate at the front desk. We walked through the store and past them on the way out, again with no acknowledgment, or thanking us for visiting the store and at least wishing us a good day. I have NEVER been anywhere where the service has been this disgusting. This is an embarrassment to the owners of the store. I will NEVER shop here, and make sure everyone I know NEVER shops at livestock.

Yelp
Last week I attempted for the third time to have a positive experience in this fairly new addition to Roncesvalles, and unfortunately it was again another disappointment. I happened to walk by shortly before 8:00 p.m., checked the time on my phone: It was 7:57. I opened the door and had the courtesy to ask if they were still open. A female staff member was quick to tell me the store was closed. I happen to also operate a retail store and I would never turn a client away when the doors are still open. I could have chosen not to ask if the store was still open and perused. I had visited this new location twice before and had been totally ignored, even though the store was not busy. One of my visits was shortly after it opened. I had a very good experience at the Chinatown location in Vancouver where I bought a few things. Needless to say I will not step foot at that location again, and will buy the brands that I like from that store at other outlets.
