The Best Wine Bars in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Stepping into this spacious wine bar in the University Park area feels like entering a good friend’s house to split a bottle of wine and hang out, from the easy-going atmosphere to the living-room-in-a-corner lounge by the window, complete with a glowing fireplace and couch. That’s just what owners Fabrizio Barbagelata and Justin Sedor were going for at Living Room Wines: a comfortable, welcoming hub for the neighborhood to hang out and enjoy good wine. Affordability is another cornerstone, with attractively priced glass pours in the $10-$14 range and a build-your-own-flight option for $20. By-the-glass choices jump all over the wine world, including France and Pacific Northwest producers and retail shelves span the back and side walls for taking home new finds. The food is also fuss-free and fun, like French onion dip with potato chips, deviled eggs, and mortadella-raclette paninis." - Zoe Baillargeon

Living Room Wines Wants to Build Community, One Glass of Wine at a Time | Eater Portland

"Partners Fabrizio Barbagelata and Justin Sedor want their new University Park wine bar to be a community hub, and everything is devised to be welcoming: “We love what it represents to have a space where you feel comfortable coming in and having a great experience that’s been imagined for you,” Barbagelata says. The pair — who settled long-term in Portland from New York City by way of the Bay Area — were charmed by a visit to Division Wines, which they consider their ideal wine bar, from the hospitality of the sommeliers down to the candlelit ambience, and they worked with architect Mark Annen (who designed places like Le Pigeon, Rum Club, and Stammtisch) to bring that vision to a part of town they feel is often overlooked. A free-standing, mid-century modern–inspired fireplace crackles in the corner, flanked by couches that create a lounge-y seating area, while an oval-shaped bar at the center of the space was designed to spark conversation: “We love sitting at the bar,” Sedor says. “It’s a great way to connect with people and meet with people, especially if you have the right person behind the bar to facilitate those connections.” Staying dedicated to accessibility and the “needs of the neighborhood,” the rotating list of 15 glass pours will include a few options under $10, with the most expensive glass going for $14; patrons can also build their own flight—or have the bartender craft a custom flight—of three wines for $20. The by-the-glass list of bubbles, whites, oranges, pinks, and reds will rotate every couple of weeks, and all are available in half-glass pours. “We’re trying to get people to try as many things as possible,” Sedor says. “As someone who doesn’t have a wine background, I’ve learned mostly through trying things that I might not think I’m going to like. We want to be a place where people can explore at their own pace and whim.” Barbagelata emphasizes showcasing smaller family producers that convey a sense of place: “It’s almost this way of traveling and connecting to other people,” Barbagelata says. “These wine labels are real people that you’re supporting just by purchasing that bottle. It feels a little meta, but it’s kind of community-building on a lot of different levels.” Because there isn’t a full kitchen, the menu will offer snacky plates—French onion dip with potato chips, a panini special, deviled eggs, roasted cauliflower bisque—and a selection of cheese sourced from Cowbell. A retail section, inspired by Division Wines, displays bottles from around Oregon and the world across different price points, curated to be fun to browse—“You feel like a kid in a candy shop when you’re into wine,” Barbagelata says. Drawing on his time at 45th Parallel Wines in St. Johns, where he fell in love with building regulars and connecting with people behind the bar, Barbagelata says hospitality and community are central goals: “What’s been really galvanizing to me has been this feeling that what really matters is community and connection,” Barbagelata says. “Creating a space for fostering a more robust community feels really important and I feel privileged to do it.” The wine bar opens today at 4818 N. Lombard Street." - Janey Wong

This little wine bar is an absolute gem! They have an incredible selection for both tasting and purchase. I tried my very first bubbly red here, and it was delightful. The servers were warm, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to help us find wines we’d love. The space itself is inviting, with beautiful art that makes you want to linger just a little longer. Highly recommend for wine lovers and anyone looking for a cozy, memorable spot in Portland.

Came here over the weekend and had the most wonderful time. The wine was fabulous & the staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. With the hotter temps outside, it was nice to be able to cool off either a nice glass of wine and great food. So happy to have this in the neighborhood! There’s a reason they were runner up for best wine bar in Portland even though they are new to the area!!!

Tucked into the heart of Portland's thriving culinary landscape, Living Room Wines is the kind of intimate, thoughtfully curated wine shop and bar that makes oenophiles feel right at home. With a selection that leans toward the organic, biodynamic, and esoteric, this cozy haven is a refreshing antidote to predictable pours, offering bottles that tell stories of terroir, tradition, and innovation. On a recent visit, the staff's passion was palpable as they guided us through a flight of standout pours. The Frauwallner “Weissburgunder" Pinot Blanc (Vulkanland Steiermark, AT, 2023) was a revelation-crisp and mineral-driven, with whispers of green apple and white peach, finishing with a touch of saline freshness. A perfect testament to Austria's underrated whites. Equally compelling was the Burklin-Wolf "Blanc" Riesling Blend (Pfalz, DE, 2022), a dynamic mix of Riesling, Pinot Blanc, and Silvaner. This German gem balanced ripe stone fruit with a racy acidity, its subtle floral notes unfolding with each sip. A versatile crowd-pleaser that could pair with anything from spicy Thai to a lazy afternoon. For those who prefer reds with finesse, the Durin Rossese (Riviera Ligure di Ponente, IT, 2023) was a masterclass in elegance. This Ligurian beauty, light on its feet yet bursting with wild strawberries, rose petals, and a hint of crushed herbs, was a reminder of Italy's gift for producing reds that are both vibrant and nuanced. What sets Living Room Wines apart isn't just its expertly chosen inventory-it's the warm, unpretentious atmosphere that invites exploration. Whether you're a seasoned collector or a curious novice, the team's enthusiasm makes every visit feel like a discovery. With its ever-rotating selection and welcoming vibe, this Portland gem is a must-visit for anyone who believes wine should be as exciting as it is enjoyable.

Living Room Wines is hands-down our favorite wine bar in Portland. The vibe is warm, welcoming, and never pretentious—just a perfect neighborhood spot to relax and enjoy truly exceptional wines. Their Wednesday tastings are always a treat and such a fun way to discover new bottles, and the pop-up oyster nights are a slay. The wine selection is thoughtfully curated, and the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to offer great recommendations. If you’re looking for a go-to wine bar with heart and flavor, this is it!

Yelp
What a fun place! I wish I lived closer but I traversed literally across town just to come visit and I'm glad I did. Staff? So nice. Food? The cauliflower bisque is AMAZING. Wines? Such a great variety and the prices are SO reasonable. My friend and I each did a flight and I got another glass and it was all such a good price for what we got. The flights are $20 each and you're practically getting a full glass for each. They're really generous pours. The space is big, cozy (especially if you're on the couch), and such a nice and inviting atmosphere. I look forward to my next visit when I'm on this side of town.

Yelp
Living Room Wines is such a cool spot. It's the only wine bar in the area, and the vibe inside is just really nice, super chill but still "fancy". I got a wine flight for $20, which included three half-pours, and you can either pick your wines or let them choose for you if you're not sure what you like, which is awesome. They've got a great mix that of local wines and some from places like France and Spain, so there's a lot to explore. We didn't try the food, but they had a ton of options, which I thought was pretty cool. Overall, it's a great place to relax and enjoy some wine without spending a ton or having to leave North Portland.
