Livingstone Beach Restaurant

We had booked for our anniversary dinner and truly enjoyed it the food was amazing! I’ve been their customer for some time but had never tried the grilled meat, and when I finally did… wow, it was absolutely delicious 😋! I'm so happy to be part of the Livingstone Restaurant family. The team is the best so charming and welcoming. We hope to see you soon once again Thank you for making our dinner so special!

Absolutely unacceptable service. The only thing going for them is the venue, beach vibe and view. We arrived, sat down, and waited 15 minutes without anyone taking our order. We even called a staff member and politely asked him to take our order. He looked at us, said “I’m coming,” then proceeded to take someone else’s order and walked away again. After 20 minutes of waiting, with a hungry child, I finally picked up the menu and started walking down to place the order myself. Only then did another staff member notice us. When I said we wanted to order, his response was “another five minutes.” This is not service. This is indifference. We were ready to order food and drinks and would have easily spent 150,000–200,000 TZS. Instead, we left and went to Out of Africa next door, where the service was faster, attentive, and professional. If Livingston Beach Restaurant does not want customers, this is a very effective way to show it. Staff need serious training on basic customer handling, awareness, and accountability. Stone Town has too many good options to waste time being ignored. Won’t be returning.

Good food, very beautiful location, especially the top floor. It gives you an amazing view of the ships entertaining and leaving Stone Town. Also they gave our children's some coloring pencils! The building itself is also vintage, with a sturdy, wooden staircase.

Our group of 10 was received warmly and shown upstairs. We requested a combined table to appreciate the beautiful views, and, in the interim, waited on the loungers. And waited. And waited. After about 20 minutes our group moved back downstairs in the hope to be assisted, but then decided to leave. The staff and manager thought this to be very funny. Nice setting. Expensive compared to other places in the immediate vicinity. Badly managed. Such a pity, this place has fantastic potential.

When arriving to Stone Town i was very hungry and lonely. Sat down to have a beer and eat. Tuna tartare was phenomenal! Right on the beach. So if going at dusk don't forget your bug repellent like I did. But overall, food was great. Little pricey. But again, it's the on the main beach in Stone Town. So very convenient and lots of things to see.

We went there as a family for dinner. Upstairs had a nice view and we could see locals doing acrobatics on the beach which was fun. Our waiter was nice and helpful. Unfortunately the food was poor. The rice that came with my dish was shaped and must have been in its mould a long time as the top was so hardened it couldn’t been separated with a knife and fork. My son ordered the club sandwich and the small thin slice of chicken took up about 1/3 of the bread size and the bacon was the same. This meant it tasted mainly like a tomato sandwich that had made the toast soggy (that was slightly burnt and stale). I didn’t make a big deal of it but did let them know we didn’t think the food was good. Especially when the club sandwich was 39k TZS and my curry was only slightly less. To his credit the waiter let The manager know and he kindly offered to reduce the bill but they only took off 5K TZS off the entire bill bringing it down to 157k for the 4 of us which was almost nothing. Then we went to pay the bill and they told us we must pay in USD at their exchange rate of 2340 and we couldn’t pay in shillings even though the menu and bill were in that currency. I will never go back. The food was poor and it was far too expensive for what you got. It also took a long time for the meals to come. We went to the rooftop restaurant call 6 degree south the night before and it was much nice, cheaper and better. The Tembo hotel next door doesn’t sell alcohol but it’s good and is much cheaper and better. Update: it may not be related by my son who ate the club sandwich woke up at 3am vomiting then 5am and it’s now 8am and he’s still vomiting.

The place is nice and the pizza is great. But if you pay by card, you can only pay in USD, not the local currency, and they make their own exchange rate. So you pay much more by card. In many places in Zanzibar I can choose 2 options, local currency and USD

Lovely place right on the beach in Stonetown in a beautiful historical building (The old British consulate) with live music on the weekend and good portions of food and Italian pizza and other dishes. Lovely sunsets from there.
