Absolutely beautiful setting, lovely spacious rooms, thoughtfully decorated and arranged. It was a very comfortable stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the vibe was relaxed and welcoming. The food was not perhaps quite at the top level, but the ambition is there to provide interesting and well cooked local foods. Not that the food was bad - it wasn't. It's more a case of expecting something out of the ordinary, perhaps even exceptional or award-winning, when you visit a place like this. Hopefully the owners will work on the menus to provide something a bit more contemporary, because in every other way this is an exceptional place - a hidden gem.

We have stayed at this charming hotel three times already and simply cannot get enough of its enchanting atmosphere. The ambiance is warm, timeless, and truly welcoming. The staff are incredibly lovely and kind, making every visit feel like visiting a dear friend. The beautiful surroundings add to the magic, and the rooms are spotless, cozy, and very comfortable. It's hard to imagine anyone could find fault with this unique and heartfelt experience. The atmosphere seems to gently embrace you, creating a homely and nostalgic haven. In summer, the gardens are utterly breathtaking—featuring a magnificent flower bed with David Austin pedigree roses, including the exquisite Emma Hamilton. The scene is so quintessentially English—classic, elegant, and utterly spectacular. I sincerely hope this charming gem will be preserved in its current glorious state, as the last authentic piece of English heritage untouched by modernisation. It’s a rare and precious treasure that should be cherished for generations to come.

We have stayed at this hotel three times already and simply can't get enough of the atmosphere. The surroundings are stunning, and the rooms are impeccably clean and comfortable, providing a perfect retreat.||It's hard to imagine anyone could have a complaint about this truly unique experience. The atmosphere envelops you in a comforting hug, creating a homely and timeless vibe. An amazing setting. Beautiful grounds and gardens. The interior of the house has been tastefully decorated in keeping with the period. I loved wandering round looking at the fabulous furniture and pieces of art. |We had afternoon tea. I booked online beforehand as booking was recommended, however, when we arrived they could not find our booking. This did set the scene for the service for the rest of the afternoon which was a bit shambolic. We had to chase up the waiting staff on a couple of occasions and they were difficult to locate.|I has the gluten free afternoon tea. The selection of gluten free cakes was outstanding. Sadly, the gluten free sandwiches were not up to the same standard. I had only 3 fillings, while my husband (not gluten free had 4), another instance where the gluten free get less while paying the same! The gluten free bread was touch and chewy and not very appetising. It seemed a shame that they could make outstanding cakes and fall down so dismally with the bread.|Having said that I was dissapointed in the food and service, I would go back because of the house and the setting.

This was our second stay this year having stayed in July. The hotel lies at the end of a long drive and is in a stunning, quiet location with spectacular views of rolling countryside. The hotel is like going back in time, another reviewer has said like staying at Downton Abbey. We met a number of like minded guests during our stay. We had a bedroom on the top floor, I wouldn’t call it a bedroom it was a large suite with sofas and armchairs and beautiful en-suite. The king-sized bed with topper was very comfortable and we both had a good nights sleep during our stay. The hotel is dog friendly and there are beautiful walks to the grounds. The staff are attentive, friendly and helpful, with special thanks to Ella who helped us with our bags to our room. A couple of suggestions for improvement: Please make the bar more welcoming maybe open the conservatory area by having more chairs so that guests can meet and socialise. Get staff to go round the lounge area/ bar on a regular basis to see if guests need anything such as drinks/snacks especially after dinner. The seat pads to some of the armchairs and sofas need replacing, they seem to be bottomed out in some cases and difficult to get out of. Overall we enjoyed our second stay and would return in the future.

Fabulous stay at this beautiful period hotel in Brecon. Nestled at the bottom of a private driveway the sight of this hotel really takes your breath away. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room has a sumptuous four poster bed and a beautiful roll top bath with views of the countryside beyond. A fabulous place to relax after a busy day. Dinner in the restaurant did not disappoint with excellent service and lovely food. Special thanks to ,Nick who looked after us during dinner. Breakfast was a well stocked buffet of hot and cold food. Although staff were busy they were attentive and couldn't do enough. Shout out also to housekeeping who asked if we had slept well and whether we needed anything for our room. Truly a fabulous experience and we look forward to our return.

Beautiful building and location, but that's all. We stayed at this hotel 10 years ago and then more recently. The standards have deteriorated significantly since our last stay. While the setting is beautiful and the period property itself has a lot of charm, the overall experience was deeply disappointing due to the lack of basic standards and poor service. The staff, who appeared to be mostly teenagers, were clearly untrained and left to manage entirely on their own. They were polite but overwhelmed, and there was no sign of experienced supervision to guide them. This unfortunately reflected in almost every part of our stay. Dinner service was chaotic. They ran out of the main course and wine we wanted which suggest poor stock management and the food was very nice but small portions. The grounds, while once lovely I’m sure, looked neglected and poorly maintained, which was a shame given the potential of the property. This hotel could be truly special with the right management and attention to detail, but unfortunately, it’s currently far from meeting even basic expectations.

This hotel is in the most beautiful setting. Peaceful and elegant. We enjoyed wandering down to the river and around the orchard and rose garden and getting lost in the maze. |Our room was classic with a 4 poster and modern bathroom overlooking the grounds. |Previous reviews have highlighted a few staffing concerns but the manageress was responsive to us and explained how things are in hand to improve. |This is a place to relax and recharge and soak up the atmosphere.

My husband and I LOVE this place. Go here if you want a TRUE Welsh country side experience. Pros: -good prices on rooms. We will splurge and go for the big rooms next time. -their breakfast which is included in the room rate. Their eggs are from the hens and ducks in their garden. They have BLUE eggs also!!!! -their tea experience and sandwiches are delicious! -wonderful service. Everyone is so nice. -parking is easy. Cons: -no elevator so might be tough if you have big luggage. -no water in room. You will need to ask to be brought up. -the bed we had in room 2 was slightly uncomfortable. You can tell the bed is old but that's part of the charm I'm presuming. The bed sheets are nice. -their "honor bar" for the alcohol is expensive $$$$.

There really no words to describe the hotel. It is by far the most beautiful place we have stayed. From the ambiance to the impeccable service the stay was amazing. Shout out to Brian who is the true definition of the perfect butler et al. The staff can't do enough for you and if I was getting married this would be the place.
