Lobster Trap - Review - Boston - The Infatuation

"Operating Hours: 11am-9pm daily One of the downsides of living on the East Coast is not having many places to watch the sun set across a body of water. That’s one of the reasons why the southwest-facing patio at the Lobster Trap is great. Additionally, there’s a lot more to the menu here than fifteen iterations of fried seafood and a lone chicken tender plate. To be clear, we like battered shrimp just as much as the next Bostonian, but garlic broth mussels and grilled swordfish are nice options as well. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

We came here on a Saturday night around 7 PM — it was incredibly busy. We were told the wait would be 35–40 minutes, but it ended up being just under an hour. Honestly, the wait didn’t feel that long since we grabbed drinks from the bar and hung out outside, which had a great atmosphere. We were eventually seated at a high table by the river, which was comfortable and had a nice view. Service was solid. The fried seafood was just okay — nothing special — but the swordfish sandwich was really good, and the drinks were even better. I had one with guava juice that was amazing, and my girlfriend got a mudslide that was delicious (and strong!). By the time we got home, we were definitely feeling it — in a good way. Next time, I’d probably skip the fried platter and go for a lobster or shrimp roll — or try the tuna pad Thai. Overall, fun spot with great vibes and drinks.

Google
The wait was only 20 minutes even though they said 30-45 …ordered gin and tonic at the bar while we waited and it was superb… Ordered salad with grilled shrimp. I should have ordered fish.. it looked great! Salad was very good , but shrimp could have been bigger for the price. Still very tasty.

Had lunch . A mostly tourist spot. Very busy. Prices about 25% higher than off cape. Food was good, servers very busy. Good menu selections. Parking was a little challenging. Inside dining very noisy. Recommend outside dining.

Nothing but good things to say: lobster roll, onion rings, calamari, even sushi was top notch. Place was crowded but service was attentive. Everything was expertly done, so well we went back for lunch the next day. Looking forward to coming back!

Three hungry, weary travelers entered but... three refreshed, satiated adventurers departed this stop. We tried things we hadn't previously heard of (linguica, stuffed quahog), and worked our merry way through some old favorites prepared just the way we most enjoy (corn on the cob, lobster, clams, chowder). My husband ordered and enjoyed every morsel of the fish and chips. I ordered a frozen mudslide; it was perfect. Don't pass through without a stop here - you won't regret it. 💯

Just stopped here a few days ago on vacation. It was delicious. Loves the whole vibe. There was a fresh fish counter right when you walk in, but it didn't smell fishy at all which was great. The service was great. We just wanted a light lunch so my friend and I shared the fish tacos and the elote (it comes as a whole cob, but I forgot to snap a pic before we cut it). The tacos had good flavor and even though the fish was fried, they were so light. The elote was tasty. Even the bathroom was adorable with the lobster tile. Would definitely go again.

First of this is a killer location but expect some slow downs and parking problems during the summer months. The food has always been good here, it's pricey during the summer but still worth it Service has always been good. Food comes out on time and the wait staff always takes care of your needs. My only knock is the prices get steep during the summer and I would like to see a few more options on the menu.

Google
I had clam chowder - delicious. Ordered a lobster roll and fried shrimp for lunch. We had a great view and the breeze qas perfect. A must stop at and try to sit outside if you can.

Yelp
This is the second time in 3 days we have been to this place and it NEVER disappoints. 1st. I had a wonderful Pulled Pork sandwich that comes topped with jalapeño slaw. Not a fan of Jalapeños I asked if I could substitute their fried seafood dinner coleslaw for the jalapeño slaw, which was done graciously. Boy was this terrific. My only note is that, as it was served on a 1/8 sheet pan, it was a little tricky getting your hands around the burger while on that tray loaded with precariously mounded fries, but one makes some allowances for 'house choice' in service ware. Imagine getting superior pulled pork in a seafood market restaurant! Add to that a great view of Buzzards Bay and a fun vibe and you get a great meal all around! 2nd. A luscious dinner of potato chip crusted cod, grilled summer vegetables, roasted fingerling potatoes with lemon butter sauce at The Lobster Trap. After all of my years in the food business, front and back of the house, I can usually find something not quite right with a meal, but this was perfection! Well done guys! Just terrific! (Side note: one of the folks joining us for dinner had the 'surf & turf' burger with lobster salad on the burger. She said the same thing as I did about the 1/8 sheet pan being to small to eat this meal 'tidily'.)

Yelp
The chowder was thick creamy and hearty. The stuffed quahog wasn't worth the price at all more quahog and chorizo is definitely needed. The fish tacos were very good. The orzo pasta salad was plain but the swordfish was good and filling. The cheese burger wasn't cooked enough we requested medium well it came out medium rare. The waitress Ashlyn was good at her job and was willing to fix the cheeseburger. It's getting chilly out so I'm thankful for that but don't have the time to wait for another burger. It's a great outside ambiance sitting by the water enjoying a meal not noisy at all just the sound of the wind and flags flapping.

Yelp
I was craving a good lobster roll and saw the reviews for this establishment and thought I would give it a try. We stopped on a busy Friday night and was able to score a table on the heated patio without a wait. My husband chose the roasted cod which was accompanied with roasted veggies and yucca fries. He thoroughly enjoyed his choice. He also had the seafood stew which was a creamy base stocked with scallops, shrimp and lobster. It was very tasty but a small portion for the $12 a cup size. My lobster was a good heaping serving on a brioche hot dog size roll with an ample serving of thin fries. In my opinion just a bit pricey at $40. Living just off cape I am accustomed to paying $25-$35 for a very generous size lobster roll. However I guess they price this for the Cape tourist. Our server Hannah W was a sheer delight and most punctual with our service. Atmosphere is rustic Cape Cod. Overall a very enjoyable experience and are sure to return!

Yelp
I've been coming for years and the food is fantastic, but the economy has affected things strongly and it's reflected in the experience. The seafood chowder which used to be a bigger bowl, and less expensive is now a smaller cup ($12) and was disappointing. The Pad Thai which we always get was great but is overpriced. The ambiance at this restaurant is awesome and this time of year (spring) is very nice. They have outdoor seating next to the water and it's very pleasant. This place can get packed so beware, I went on mother's day and the wait was 1 hour (they have some limited seating where you can get drinks while you wait).

Yelp
Went for the first time today. The food was good BUT I wish they did sea scallops instead of bay!!!! Other than that I'll come back. Better than the Lobster Pot!!! Bye the way we got there at 1130 by 1230 the place was packed!!!!

Yelp
I stopped in for dinner on a recent work trip to try a lobster roll while I was in the area. The reviews hyped it up, so I knew this was the place to go. The size of the roll was enough for a meal and there was tons of lobster pieces in it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to order a side salad with my meal even for an up charge. I thought that was kind of odd. Overall, the meal was great. I would return , and it was a cozy place where you could tell locals came.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Tiny but fresh oysters, way overpriced, and a soggy not fried enough clam roll with lets say unfresh clams that were not cooked. Slow service on a Monday! No I wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Janelly T.

Yelp
Parking could be tricky but you seem to always find parking. Place was packed but we got seated immediately. Staff took a bit to take our order but the order was brought in at a reasonable time. We were dying to try the lobster here and it didn't disappoint. Everyone left happy.

Yelp
The Lobster Trap is my favorite place to go to on my way to or from the Cape! I'm a huge fan of fried clam strips which aren't always available at every seafood place and they have them. I went here a few years ago and the quality has stayed the same. I got oysters, clam chowder, and fried clam strips with cole slaw and fries. The oysters were refreshing and the chowder is solid. I also tried a few fried scallops and for the price they give you a lot. The clam strips here are good because they aren't just the fried bits there's actual pieces of clam. It fills up really fast here and I showed up right when they opened! I will always return here when going to the Cape!

Peter M.

Yelp
Great clam chowder. Fried food their specialty. Big portions excellent staff. Very clean and well kept

Yelp
After eating a lot of Holiday food, I felt like something different and had not eaten Tuna in awhile. I ordered the pad Thai which normally comes with salmon. The Tuna was so delicious

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick lunch With my sales reps, they are regulars here... and they weren't lying - the food's amazing. Service was fantastic as well - lots of staff and they were all hustling!!! I had the shrimp roll, super fresh and delicious. They've got fresh seafood that you can purchase as well for carry out, would be an awesome place to hang out in the evenings. Amazing views, lots of comfortable spots to sit. I was so hungry, I forgot to take a picture of my food...

Robert B.

Yelp
Wow! My favorite restaurant has my antenna up! Went a week ago and saw that the menu has changed. Quite a bit actually. The fish dishes are considerably different. They don't even offer baked scrod or any broiled white fish which is shocking. I got the lobster roll because I didn't like any of the fish dishes. It was outstanding and should be for $40. But went back again tonight and my wife got the Salmon. She hated it, and could not finish it. The fish was muddy and clearly farm raised. But the new way it is prepared is disgusting and not how it is described on the menu. I sincerely hope they are not jockeying around head chefs. The Chart Room does this every couple years and their food is horrendous. Dave we are counting on you!
google avatar

Melanie D.

Yelp
I was able to return again, lucky me! We went for a late lunch and scored a high top table in the bar. I had to have a couple oysters, the minimum is 3. They were good, a few minor shells but the freshness made up for it. Always enjoy the service here and the view is nice too. I would suggest sitting outside if it's not too hot but was glad to be indoors on an August summer day. This place is very cape code casual which is great and they sell nice merchandise (picked up a trucker hat).
google avatar

Kayli D.

Yelp
This place has the best lobster rolls in the area, hands down. It's my favorite spot for lunch, especially if you're in the mood for something delicious and fresh. The ambiance is very Cape Cod casual, which I love. There's usually a bit of a wait, but that's why I prefer going for lunch - it's a bit less crowded, and the food is always worth it.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
This place is always crowded so if you have a large party I would call for a reservation. Really beautiful view from the restaurant. We were told a 30 minute wait but only waited maybe 15minutes. Service was very prompt and efficient. We got our drinks and appetizers pretty quick. Just as we finished our a apps our main meal came. The steamers were cooked perfectly, sweet and very clean. The lobster was also cooked perfectly and also had great flavor .

Yelp
We came on the Wednesday before the 4th at around 5pm and were seated right away. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. The inside looked like any normal seafood restaurant but the menu was a little surprising. I was really craving tuna but only could choose from the Poke or Pad Thai. I was hesitant on the Pad Thai because this isn't a thai restaurant and I was correct as others in my party thought it was just OK. I didn't think poke could be messed up but I couldn't eat the kimchi or anything the kimchi touched. It tasted like it was soaked in vinegar and not fermented. Maybe more like if cabbage were to be pickled. The tuna, however, was really tasty. I think if the food was focused more on the seafood with a more cohesive menu and not trying to be too trendy with the asian dishes, it could be really good!

Yelp
As this was on a few best-of lists, I've been waiting for the off-season to try it... Casual atmosphere, and lively even on a December Friday night. Lots of smiley, happy people eating here... We tried a few of the options not typically found on Cape seafood menus: --Beef Thai sticks ($17), Thai marinated steak, sticky rice, seaweed cuke salad. Tasty non-seafood starter, nicely flavored with a bit of a spicy kick. --Yellow fin tuna, ($32), awesome choice with charred rare tuna, pad Thai, vegetables, peanuts, lime. A lot of food, couldn't finish all of it. --Swordfish au poivre, ($32), super good peppercorn-crusted center-cut swordfish with brandy cream sauce, and crispy onion strings. Substituted roasted broccolini for the brussel sprouts. Would've been easily a 5-star dinner, except the broccolini was served barely warm and overcooked. Was it pre-cooked and re-heated? Not inexpensive, but super fresh fish and huge portions. Friendly and efficient service on a busy night.

Yelp
Great local joint just sometimes not worth the price for certain items. We frequent here every year due to its proximity to our summer stay. We got the street corn as a starter, it used to be $7. Now it's $10, and it's a single ear of corn that isn't even cut in half to share.. It's hard to justify paying $10 for a single ear of corn that you then have to put in work to share with someone. The Trap-A-Rita was also a disappointment. It tastes premixed, and is very light, served with mostly ice in a plastic cup. Absolutely NOT worth $14... Serve it made to order and in a glass with a tajin rim at least to make it worth your while. The cod sandwich was good, the quality of fish is great. It's so flaky it falls apart when you bit into it. The claim strips are good but nothing to write home about. The fries are unseasoned and lackluster. Could definitely use at least some salt. The cold slaw is bland and tasteless. Added salt, pepper, a squeeze of lemon, and a tad of tartar sauce to make it wake up a bit. If you come early enough before the dinner rush at 5 you might not have to wait. Otherwise expect a wait. Especially if you are larger than a party of 2. The waitress we had also cleared plates before we were really done with them which was kind of a bummer. I'm not saying we won't be back, I would just like to see it improve for the price you have to fork out.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place since I was a little kid. I absolutely love it, and it's only getting better. Yes, I know the bar has been here. The upgrade to the bathroom area was LONG overdue and it looks great. The food is always 10 out of 10, it's always fresh, which is the best. Great job Dave

Yelp
I've been eating steamers and whole-belly clams since I cut my first tooth. I was gifted a certificate for The Lobster Trap and decided to head over the bridge for lunch one weekday. It was raining, so I wasn't the only person on Cape Cod looking for a bite. I had to park in the overflow lot down the road a piece. Upon entering, I immediately felt I'd fallen into a trap--a tourist trap. But luckily, I was mistaken by the initial vibe. It was crowded, but the food warranted the clamor. I started with chowder. Usually I like a spoon to stand upright in the cup. Theirs was on the thin side, but flavor was spot-on and full of clams. I settled on a clam roll and for the price, I'm not complaining. I don't mind paying more if worth it. Desserts are limited to one (brownie sundae thingy) so I passed. A nice key lime pie would cut the richness of fried seafood! Just sayin'. The open seating afforded me the opportunity to see tons of steamers and boiled lobsters being served, and everyone looked happy as, well, clams. I'd definitely go back, but on a sunny day when everyone else is on the beach.

Yelp
The best Lobster Roll I've eaten! Packed full, heaping of lightly dressed lobster, on a bit of lettuce and served in a fresh, buttery, salty toasted, brioche roll, $39. It's expensive, but I walked away thinking it was money well spent. The Clam Chowder, $8, was creamy deliciousness and plentiful on clams. Equally delicious was the Seafood Stew of scallops, shrimp and lobster in a cream broth with a touch of sherry flavor. Last, but not least, we enjoyed trying the local oyster on the half shell. They were fantastic and served with all the accomplishments you might want. The service here was stellar. The owner must treat his young employees well as they hustled the entire time, were pleasant and ready to please.

Dennis L.

Yelp
Classic cape Resturant. Had the clams. Awesome. Fried fish and chips on another trip. Very fresh and great service. Kinda expensive but a nice treat
google avatar

Suraj P.

Yelp
Loved this spot. I was in Cape Cod for work and stopped here for a quick lunch. The service was quick, the food was amazing and the ambiance with the seats on the water is all a great combination. Definitely stop in here if you're in the area.

Yelp
Had a classic stop at the Lobster Trap in Bourne tonite! Pretty busy for a Monday! We had great seating outside with water view at sunset. Tremendous special of prosciutto wrapped Cod w roasted potatoes and grilled Summer squash. My wife had a seafood stew with crab cakes. Also excellent! Service was top notch. We chatted with our server about voting No on ballot question 5 in November! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Valerie H.

Yelp
The service was great. The food was not. We ordered the clam chowder, a whole lobster and the scallop dinner. The clam chowder was delicious and I would order it again. Lots of clams and potatoes and everything that's great about a good chowder. The scallop dinner was presented beautifully but tasted horrible. They took delicate scallops and paired them with Brussels sprouts and another very strong vegetable that completely overpowered the scallops. The lobster was watery and the shell was really rubbery... the meat was completely cooked but it was really full of water and when we cracked it open, A LOT of water ran over the entire plate and into the vegetables. (Was it boiled hours ago and held in the kitchen?) It was served with broccolini- which is another strong smelling vegetable and that overpowered the lobster taste which was already weak because of all the water. The butter had no flavor and it reminded me of a cooking oil used in the kitchen. I will try this restaurant again in a couple months and update this review.

Yelp
fresh and great place for a beer. I highly recommend The Lobster Trap. Service was good too
google avatar

Yelp
We were late lunchers-this place is busy but we were seated right away on a hot August day on Cape Cod. The ambiance is classic Cape Cod. The food came fast and fun. Love watching the tide go out the river
google avatar

Stacey M.

Yelp
Stopped for late lunch. Service was great it wasn't crowded mid afternoon and the lobster roll was delicious! Though expensive . But had to have it 1x on our trip.
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
I really want to give a bad review so that people would stay away from the Trap. But I just can't do it. We love the Trap and visit weekly year round. Summer is very crowded because it's a fantastic place for the family. It's worth every minute of waiting time. But it sure is nice after the summer when we can walk in and get a table right away. The food, drinks, and staff are all amazing. Never had a bad experience at the Trap.
google avatar

Elle V.

Yelp
We ordered for pick up and it was ready on time and was fresh. Onion rings are good and it's a large order - wry to share. The fries were also tasty. But the real reason we frequent the Lobster Trap is their Lobster Roll. It is very good but not as good as it once was. Still, better than most and worth the side trip if you're near the Bourne Bridge.
google avatar

Chuck W.

Yelp
The food is fresh and outstanding! And you won't leave hungry! Fine service. It's a seafood shanty so it's a little loud but those are happy diners.
google avatar

Jake W.

Yelp
Lobster trap keeps getting better! We've been coming for years. Usually for the lobster rolls but the menu is just too good! Love this latest addition with Asian fusion flavor. Unreal good!

Carrie D.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere! Our service was excellent as well. Going back again soon! The outside seating was perfect as they have heaters.

Meaghan G.

Yelp
My family arrived at the Lobster Trap at 5 PM for an early dinner, and as we were seated, it was already starting to get crowded. We were seated quickly by the window, with a view of the water. For appetizers, we ordered the stuffed quahog, mussels, and corn on the cob (which I ordered since there weren't any vegetarian options that I was interested in). My family liked the seafood and the corn was really good. Again, since there weren't really any vegetarian options, I ended up ordering the kale salad for my main course. It was ok - it could have used more dressing and the kale could have been a lot more massaged. It wasn't really flavorful. My family seemed to enjoy their main courses. My brother got the tuna and pad thai, and it was a really generous portion - he usually can finish his meal and the rest of everyone else's meal at the table, and he could barely finish his plate. Overall, good service and good food!
google avatar

Loretta S.

Yelp
Great seafood place in Bourne. I can see why you need to go early. Beautiful sunset... enjoyed the vibe. Baked Haddock was fabulous. dine perfectly and a large piece. Love the soft belly clams. I had the Onion rings for a small Upcharge as a regular order was huge. The seafood stew was creamy and amazing. We got some to go too. It does get crowded and noise level is a bit high, but we enjoyed the liveliness
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
After getting off the ferry, we were looking for a place to grab dinner and decided to try this place. We were dining on the late side and the place was still pretty full! Always a good sign. Service was very friendly and we were seated right away. I went with the swordfish sandwich (slightly dry, ask for extra thousand island!). Hubs had the steak tips since we had seafood all weekend and these were excellent! Our server talked to us about how much she really loved her job and loves the customers... this must be an excellent company to work for, evident by the posters for employment talking about retirement, benefits and great wages, uncommon in the restaurant industry! Worth a stop if you're passing through!
google avatar

Sean B.

Yelp
Solo at the bar. Lobster w butter. Bud light, side of ice. Meal came in 7 minutes. Best part of my week. No. Summer. I don't make time for lunch. Shame on me. Lesson learned.
google avatar

Kelly K.

Yelp
Decided to give this restaurant another shot. It has been years since I last visited. It was busy as always. Quality was about the same as the last time I was here. I had the fish and chips. If I had to guess I'd say the fish was tilapia, which I do not like there was a generous portion of it. The french fries were not good. They tasted like frozen french fries that were cooked once and then reheated. For the price being paid, the quality should be better. There should be fresh french fries.
google avatar

Brandy A.

Yelp
We are town visiting from south Florida, so if anyone is qualified to label a place as a tourist trap, it would be us. This place is a tourist trap. We ordered the 2 lb lobsters and they came out pretty, but were bland. Thankfully the butter gave them some flavor. We've been to a few other restaurants since we have been here and have had the lobster at each of them. Every single one was better than this place. Go elsewhere
google avatar

Valeri G.

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere, very nice food! Also big thanks to our server, Jeanie! Cheers from your Bulgarian guests:-)

Yelp
I tried out the stuffed quahog (kow-haag) and linguica (luhng-gwee-suh). Previously, I've never tried out stuffed quahogs which is why I wanted to check it out. Quahogs are thick shelled clams, and the word comes from an Algonquian language, Narrangansett, "poquauhock." The Narragansett people are an American Indian tribe from Rhode Island, and today many people from Southern New England still call these hard clams "quahogs." Back to the stuffed quahogs; Lobster Trap serves one as an appetizer. It is breaded with cornbread and stuffed with chorizo, peppers and herbs. It results in a mildly sweet, spicy, and briny taste. It has a good mix of textures - crunchy on the outside with many different ingredients inside. The single serving they provide is still pretty filling. It was a distinct taste that I never tried before and I personally don't know what to compare it with for context. I wouldn't order it again as my taste buds didn't resonate with this flavorful dish, but I appreciate it for the experience. As for the linguica, I ordered it as a side. Linguica is a Brazilian and Portuguese style sausage. It's another popular food in southern New England. Traditionally, it is made from pork meat and seasoned with Portugese spices. Lacking a carb, I ordered another side of rice to pair. It was delicious and flavorful! The ambiance was easy-going. They were playing 90s hip hop with a mix of light rock. Everyone seem to be laid back and enjoying the nice, summer weather outside.

Yelp
Good drinks, good food, good service. It's pricey, but what you'd expect for seafood in Cape Cod.

Yelp
Great food. Awesome atmosphere. We got the oysters, clam chowder, crab cake and the lobster roll. It was fantastic food and servers were so friendly and accommodating.

Kevin H.

Yelp
Had a great meal Cod Casino was amazing, the only thing better than my meal was our waitress Maddie she did a great job always smiling and very perky. Our evening ended with a beautiful Cape Cod sunset, will be making this a regular stop.

Don B.

Yelp
Parking isn't the best during busy times. Service and food were very good. Can be pricy. Very noisy indoors
google avatar

Brent S.

Yelp
We ate here on vacation. It was a small dockside restaurant with a small but charming dining room. We all had the lobster roll with chowder lunch special. You could have the roll hot or cold. It was an excellent roll with lots of lobster and was very fresh. The chowder was also really good. Prices were very reasonable. I would definitely recommend this place for an authentic Maine lobster roll lunch.
google avatar

Sue S.

Yelp
A great go to, casual dining spot with an active bar of locals and gorgeous estuary views. Food was spot on. the Mr. Ordered the yellow fin tuna, a house favorite--delicious. And my steamed lobster was perfect! A busy summer, Saturday night and we were served pleasantly at the bar while we waited and at our table once seated.

Yelp
My family (4 people including me) went to the Lobster Trap at around 4:00 PM. Parking was decent because of the time we arrived at the restaurant. Keep that in mind if you want to park near the restaurant. You should arrive early. 6PM is usually the most busy time of the day at the Lobster Trap. We got seats pretty quick due to the time we arrived. The restaurant was fairly populated along with the bar. Our waitress took our order. I got a pulled pork sandwich which had coleslaw and pickles on it. The roll of the sandwich was delicious. I substituted the fry option which onion rings. When I got my meal, the sandwich looked well cooked. The onion rings looked well prepared and cooked as well. The food in the end was great. Nothing wrong with the Lobster Trap. To conclude, from having gone there a previous year it was the same and official as last time. Definitely recommend going here if you are in town.
