I was hoping to enjoy some good Cantonese food at Local Cafe, but it just didn’t work out. The curry sauce was watery and had almost no taste at all. The beef brisket was tough and lacked real flavor. The table and utensils wasn’t very clean. Overall, not the worst place ever, but I wouldn’t recommend it or come back again.

Google
The waitress are nice. The beef gravy noodle and hk milk tea are good. The wonton is only ok. Kind of dry and dense. They have a promo now each $10 spent will have a token for the crawl machine. But it’s hard to get anything.

Jonathan W.

Google
Classic Hong Kong style cafe, order on your phone via QR code or with the waiter. Not obvious based off signage outside the restaurant but a great find! They have lunch specials which include tea

Google
Local Cafe is a Chinese cafe on Hollenbeck in Cupertino. Authentic, central, and tasty. The service of Local Cafe was subpar the servers were not attentive at all and there was no polite conversation or any smiles which made annoyed the ambiance of Local Cafe was nice with lots of seating and a cool orange vibe with lots of posters on the wall. The food of Local Cafe was BOMBB. We got the YangZhou Fried Rice which was fried rice with ham and shrimp. We also got the Three Combo Meat Stir Fried Rice Stick Noodle. I don’t know why the name is so long, but it was a delicious dish! The fried rice had loads of shrimp and ham in it. Both dishes were a little greasy but they were still both delicious. They both had loads of meat. They were also very fresh and hot. The fried rice had some veggies and scrambled eggs mixed in and the rice was very loose making the dish even tastier. The noodles were very tiny and there was t an overwhelming amount of cabbage and onions like usual with noodle dishes. The ham tasted like Spam and was very savory and it complimented the subtle shrimp very well. Overall, although Local Cafe did not have adequate service it still had a nice ambiance and very tasty food. I would definitely come to Local Cafe for a quick fix and for some cheap food. For its affordability and tasty dishes I recommend Local Cafe to others!

Google
Your average stop for hearty Chinese food. They have a good deal. If you come between 5 and 9 pm any day, three items will cost just ~$26 The best item during my visit was the Potato & chicken hotpot. It's worth going back for. The customer service is great. We had a slight problem with one of our dishes, and they replaced the whole thing.

Google
12/26/2023 It's been a while since I came back. I didn't like some of the dishes so I stopped coming. However, things have improved. 蝦醬牛鬆炒飯 - 牛鬆means minced beef. Not here. They cut into very small pieces so the texture is very different. Also lack of shrimp paste flavor. They need to at least double it to make it taste stronger. 鐵板黑椒餐肉公仔麵 - The noodle is a little bit soggy. Also prefer to have more black pepper flavor. 焗豬扒飯 - This one was the surprised because I gave up on them long ago cause they refused to battered the pork chop to make it pork cutlet before. Surprisingly, this time regular baked pork chop over rice is with fried pork cutlet. That makes a big difference. The tomato sauce ain't bad neither. With a little improvement, this can be a go to HK style restaurant at least for those who likes the above dishes.

Google
The utensil stings, as very strong smell, food is OK. The staff is extremely rude. First you order your own food and which they don’t provide you any service, after finish your food, you have to walk up the counter to make payment yourself, they print our receipt with a tip line, which i am surprise they even ask for tips, i put 12% which i think it is fair honestly i dont think they deserve. and the staff said “Is she new here?” behind my back, these people they are so entitled.

Yelp
I came here one weekend afternoon for lunch. It was relatively busy. It was my first time here, I didn't know that you can just pick a seat and scan the QR code and they will take your order. I ordered their Baked Spaghetti Bolognese & Pork Chop Rice, French Toast with Peanut Sauce and Iced Hong Kong Milk Tea. The meal also came with some hot black tea, which was nice. The ice Hong Kong milk tea was good, nice black tea flavor and not too sweet. The French Toast with peanut sauce was like a peanut butter sandwich but fried with egg batter. It came with some syrup/honey and butter if you wanted to add it. The Baked Spaghetti Bolognese & Pork Chop Rice was a nice combination of spaghetti and half rice with egg in it, topped with a breaded pork chop and tomato sauce. The flavor of the tomato sauce was okay, I've had better. Portions are a good size and filling. I like having both the rice and the spaghetti, but definitely preferred the spaghetti more. Food came out pretty quickly after I ordered, decent place for Hong Kong style dishes.

Yelp
The vibe at the restaurant was pretty calm and quiet. I was expecting it to be a little loud but the environment was pretty quiet. The Peking Pork Chop was disappointing. It had a strong sour/vinegar taste, but the flavor wasn't right. You can also tell by the color of the dish. The Baked Chicken Steak with Rice was standard! I like how the chicken steak has a crispy skin on the outside! I would not get the Sizzling Plate Black Pepper with Spaghetti again, it was not special and the flavor was just okay.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the place to be if you're looking for Hong Kong comfort food. The menu is extensive so there's something for everyone. The HK milk tea was legit and not too sweet. It's definitely a busy place at lunch time so service was a bit on the slower side. It was definitely a popular place to come and eat and also for people to order take out.
google avatar

Yelp
Hong Kong style restaurant with a very diverse menu. Lots of items you won't find at the typical Chinese restaurant.

Thalia M.

Yelp
As I was on my way to grab Thai food from my usual place, I noticed this restaurant a few doors down and decided I'd try something new!! Ordering system is through a QR code and there was a TON of options to choose from. After a bit of scrolling and contemplating I finally decided on the braised beef with noodles. The braised beef was extremely tender and flavorful however there seemed to be too much tendon/fat for my liking, which became a bit overwhelming. Unfortunately, I did not like the noodles as it was way too soft and wet with a strange taste that reminded me of towels. Overall, I don't see myself coming back anytime soon.
google avatar

Yelp
4.5 stars. This place is peak comfort food. I am obsessed with their baked tomato pork chop rice. It hits so hard if you are hungry and it's cold day. Also wash it down with the Hong Kong milk tea. When it's passed 10pm, you can get a smaller portion of the baked pork rice and then for just a dollar more, you can get a drink. The value is really good and even though the portion is smaller, it's still a good amount for a meal. The other dishes I ordered before were still pretty tasty, but don't expect extremely high quality. It's just good comfort food. I wouldn't recommend ordering the wings though during the happy hour time. It's like $12 for 4 pretty small wings. Overall, I highly recommend this spot if you're a fan of Hong Kong diner food

Yelp
We came on a weekend this time. Ordered Bitter melon with chicken, Chicken Steak platter, pea sprout with bean curd paste w/ jalapeno and wanton noodles and singapore noodles. Service is solid and the food is hong kong delicious.

Yelp
It can be difficult at times to find parking in this lot. It's nice that they're open late for whatever the circumstances demand. They've got solid Hong Kong Cantonese chaa chan teng food. I come here when I just need an injection of greasy nostalgic feel good food. You order through a QR code and the only interactions with staff are when they bring you water or food and when you pay at the counter. We've come here twice before I got a chance to review so I'll just sum it up here. On our first visit, we had the wonton lo mein and the macaroni soup. Very standard HK fare. My mom used to make me macaroni soup all the time. Both dishes were nice and nostalgic. The second time, we got the braised tofu and combintion pan fried noodles. Turns out we were really craving gravy that day. Local cafe does a lot of things well! I would highly recommend their food. You don't come to a Chinese restaurant for service, you come for the food! If you pay in cash, there's a slight discount. They also give you 5 coins for their claw machine. A very cute feature, we had fun with it, but we were both bad at the game.
google avatar

Yelp
Decided to try this cafe/restaurant with friends today on a Sunday afternoon. We got there around 12:30 pm, and we were sat immediately. Once the lunch rush hit, it was packed and busy. You come there for the food, not the service as it's a fast paced environment, where servers immediately set plates, cutlery, tea, napkins, at your table once seated. It has a nice family style interior that's inviting and warm. There's even cute claw machines that you can play; they give you coins after your meal for 5 attempts. You'll order from a QR code then pay your bill at the front. We ordered 4 items of pan fried noodles, sides of rice, salt and pepper squid and salt and pepper tofu. All of our dishes arrived in 10 minutes. The pan fried noodles were a bit dry in flavor with some vegetables and I wish there were more vegetables. The noodle texture was soft to chew on and the sauce was underwhelming. The salt and pepper tofu/squid had great crunch textures. Not too overpowering salt and peppers seasoning but I wished there was more seasoning on it. Lots of onions and jalapeño slices though. A nice restaurant to dine in.

Yelp
Amazing service like home and service is amazing. Food taste like home cooked and home like taste. Atmosphere is clean and nicely done.

Yelp
Haven't been here for awhile and was excited to see the new decorations in and out, so decided to take some pictures and post them here. The poster size photos on the walls are really cute. We ordered our usual for take out, the black pepper beef pineapple fried rice and the curry. When we order online, you can choose which rice for the curry and we usually choose the fried rice. While ordering via the counter, she did not remind us of this option, so we only got white rice. I felt like some rice noodle soup and I chose the fish with choy sum option. They packed the rice noodle and fish together and the clear soup separately. By the time I got home the rice noodle was all soggy and bleh. What's worse is that I found a wire in the food! It was those wires where you scrub the pot with. How disappointing and shocking.

Yelp
Very middle of the road experience. Basic diner-style restaurant. When we came in for dinner, we waited after seating and eventually had to flag down and ask a server for a menu and water. When no one came to take our order, I eventually walked over to the counter to place our order. We ordered three dishes for the family special. One ended up significantly over-salted and the other two were quite under-salted. Portions were generous and flavors were unremarkable. Their soup of the day was a light broth with meat and vegetables which was my favorite of everything we ordered. We may yet go back to try their Hong Kong style pan-fried noodles but otherwise no strong incentive to return. A pity since it's so near our house. Oh, well.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered a bitter melon with ribs with white rice dish on 1/5/25 at 5:10pm. Rice is literally cold. Food was just warm. Very disappointing. Day and night compared to the one in Fremont. Local Cafe in Fremont bury this one, in service and quality of food. Came here bc it was convenient but did not know the quality was so poor.
google avatar

Vivian C.

Yelp
The best dish here is the Peking Pork Chop! Go for the family dinner combo after 5 pm for 3 dishes and a soup for a discounted price. Not all dishes qualify for the deal though! If you speak Mandarin Chinese that helps! The staff speak both Mandarin and Cantonese!
google avatar

Elizabeth N.

Yelp
My first Hong Kong style restaurant. Everything was comforting. I recommend if you need some late night eats.

jen c.

Yelp
A solid spot for Chinese food. I've tried their lunch specials, which come with soup and a beverage, as well as the three-dish family meal. The 鐵板黑椒大腸 and 梅乾扣肉 were especially delicious, with generous portions. It's a great option whether you're dining alone or sharing a family meal. I've felt satisfied and content every time I've eaten here.
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
A small restaurant specialized in serving hong kong cafe food. The food was mediocre. I would still return if I have any cravings.
google avatar

Susan Z.

Yelp
If you're craving for some HK style food with a HK-like service experience, this place is for you. Menu is extensive. The food is mediocre at best but it helps me satisfy my HK/Canto style fast-food cravings in the Bay without going to HK. Food is a bit lacking in flavor (not just saltiness I mean) and can be disappointing (I've brought cantonese friends here too), but... this place is opened really late so it's a nice option for late-night eats. I like their HK milk tea though!

Yelp
I first came across this place while driving by in this plaza! Why not try it out? The lot has a lot of parking and the staff were helpful and quick to get us a table and let us know how to order. There were a lot of tables with chairs and booth seating. It was spacious and comfortable. We had ordered the two kinds of fried rice, salt and pepper fish fillet, and seafood clay pot. The portions were good for the cost and it took us back to our younger days and frequenting other HK Cafes. The hot milk was strong and not too sweet. I liked that they had sugar on the table to adjust to your own tastes. The fried rice had both styles of sauce - a tomato sauce and a white sauce. It's a nice combination and very classic to this style of restaurant. The seafood clay pot was quick to come out and could've had more seafood inside. It was mostly tofu and carrots. The fish fillet also could've been crispier but had alright flavors. I was expecting it to be spicier than what I ate, but it's okay. Perhaps I'd come again for their lunch combos that looked promising - skillet + drink for $1 more. Or for takeout if I'm craving anything specific.
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
It's a 3.5-star experience. The food was delicious, and we ordered the pepper sauce pasta. Customer service was decent; however, the restroom was very filthy.
google avatar

Shinn T.

Yelp
Just visited there for picking up my memory from university life. The food was so so, not good or bad, just familiar like what we tried years ago. But the cashier girl's attitude was extremely bad, she was being not polite when we asked for anything. Such a disappointment makes me not going to there anymore. With the same price, I would recommend that going to other restaurants to have better food. The restaurants in the same mall serves better food actually. As customers we have choices, we can go somewhere else and not being here to be isolated and ignored. Thank you.
google avatar

Chaela N.

Yelp
Stopped by on a weekend afternoon to a pretty packed restaurant. We were craving chow fun and Local Cafe hit the spot. We were quickly seated and ordered through the QR code. Overall experience was a quick and easy meal. Would come back to try more on the menu though!
google avatar

Carly L.

Yelp
Ordered 4 of their entrees. My favorite was the Baked Spaghetti Bolognese. It had the most flavor out of all the other dishes. In general the dishes are lacking in salt but otherwise fine. I do not recommend the Hainan Chicken Rice. It was barely touched because of the color of the chicken and the bitterness of the rice. It looked AND tasted unappetizing. Do yourself a favor and skip it. For drinks, the Hong Kong Milk Tea was decent. This restaurant gave an authentic Hong Kong style dining setting. AKA avoidant service type beat No greeting, insistent on their ways, poor hospitality, and basically throwing the entrees onto your table. It's hard to enjoy your dining experience as a result. It might be best to go to another restaurant if you want to eat your food cheerfully. There's plenty of parking in the plaza. Lots of other shops and restaurants to hit up. Something really cool about this establishment is that they have claw machines up at the front. For every $10 you spend on your meal, you get a token to insert into the claw machine for a chance for a discount the next time you visit. I got a free HK Milk Tea for the next time I stop by. Which, don't know when that will be. Overall, my experience here was subpar.

Karen W.

Yelp
I love Hong Kong cafes, and this place offers some of my favorite foods and beverages. Their beef chow fun is flavorful, with nice crunch texture from the veggies, and most importantly, good wok hei. The baked beef brisket is a must try. My other favorites when going to any HK cafe include HK style French Toast, HK style milk tea, and red bean ice drink with coconut milk. This place has casual vibes, the service meets the ambiance and is the perfect place for a relaxed meal with your family when you're in the South Bay.
google avatar

Ray K.

Yelp
Solid Chinese Hong Kong style food here. From chow fun to fried rice and wonton noodles soup. Quick and great service. Lots of room to sit

Wai Man C.

Yelp
I personally think Local Cafe is the best Hong Kong style cafe in the South Bay Area. Unique interior decor, good customer service, reasonable prices, and super yummy food. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Johnny L.

Yelp
Local Cafe is a HK Cafe restaurant located in Cupertino. Extensive menu of classic Hong Kong Dishes with extremely reasonable prices. The food came out fast, prompt service to order food, and great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food was just a bit meh for me. I thought all the dishes needed more flavor (maybe salt) and they all tasted the same. Salt and Pepper fried fish was good but it wasn't really crispy. Their Hong Kong Milk Tea tasted really good. Would definitely come for a quick lunch.
google avatar

JC V.

Yelp
Food- delicious and tasty! Nice and light. Not overly large portion. It's just right! Service - helpful and help with recommendations. Ambient - nice and bright, clean, and felt safe!
google avatar

Atlas Y.

Yelp
Is tariff affecting my take out? It's half the portion of what I ordered the last time. This is sad. I'm hungry still

Brian N.

Yelp
The food quality is getting better recently. Tried out twice lately for take out. Food taste more fresh. The pork chop and chicken don't taste like poorly pan fried anymore. Taste like properly cooked with an effort to of a good job. I know lots of folks don't come back anymore because they had been doing a whatever attitude in cooking.

Yelp
My favorite late-night dining in Cupertino - open until midnight! (So odd that I never left a review before!) My picky kids like it too... so that is always an added bonus. They have a QR code for you to order from your table. (They use 39miles). Though they do also have paper menus and you can order from a server if you prefer. Our go-to items: - beef brisket Lo mein - baked Pork Chop & Chicken Steak w/ Two Sauce Over Rice - salt and pepper tofu - porridge - wonton noodle soup Many of the employees still wear masks. Some are friendly than others... tonight's server seemed to man the front alone and he avoided eye contact as much as possible. :P
google avatar

Juliet T.

Yelp
Local Cafe is good for late night eats since they close at midnight! I shared a Beef Brisket Pan Fried Noodle and a chicken dish with my partner and that was enough to fill us up and have leftovers. Their portions are pretty generous! The pan fried noodles were super crispy, and had a bunch of flavor to it! There was a good balance of veggies, meat, and noodles. For the chicken, we initially thought that the chicken was going to come out crispy but it came out like steamed chicken. Regardless, this dish was pretty good and easy to pair with side dishes!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Hong Kong style food! I came in with a party after bowling and we were all craving different types of food. My boyfriend got a Ramen dish and I was craving more American, so I got the club sandwich and fries. The food was very comforting and hit the spot. The interior was nice and big and had a lot of seating and the service was really great and everyone was very nice.

Yelp
Around the Sunnyvale/Cupertino area, this is probably the best Hong Kong cafe. I grew up with 8th St cafe / Shooting Star Cafe / Gum Kuo in Oakland Chinatown, and those were the staple GOAT HK cafes. We went for lunch and ordered with the QR code. Beef fried rice with shrimp paste, Beef stir fry noodles, and Baked Chicken and Porkchop with cream / tomato sauce, along with HK Milk Tea and the free soup (紅青蘿蔔湯 - radish and carrots broth) which I LOVE. It's a taste of home. Everything was very flavorable. I think the beef fried rice had a bit too much shrimp paste for my liking, but it's a familiar flavor. The baked chicken/pork combo with cream and tomato sauce was my favorite. It's my new fav HK place in the area - will have to come back to try more!
google avatar

Jackie L.

Yelp
Pretty average experience. I like that this restaurant is open late though, and they happened to be playing Super Trio while we were there! There are QR codes for the menu at each table or you can ask one of the waiters for a physical menu. Had two of the baked rice dishes: baked fish cutlet with cream sauce and fried rice and the baked pork chops with portuguese sauce and fried rice. The baked portuguese sauce dish was pretty average, but the rice was a little hard/dry due to less sauce. The pork chops were cut up when served. The baked cream sauce dish was also pretty average. Probably wouldn't order the Portuguese style again for baked dish since there wasn't enough sauce, personal preference, but I'd be open to trying another baked dish.

Chia K.

Yelp
Terrible experience. The server was extremely rude -- they literally threw the dishes onto the table without a word. We waited forever for our food, and when it finally came, the chicken was cold and tasted like it had just been microwaved. The food was bad, the service was worse -- definitely not coming back.
google avatar

Kingsley L.

Yelp
I've been coming to this Hong Kong-style café since my university days, and it still maintains its authentic Cantonese flavors. I still come back every Sunday to eat here.
google avatar

Carlo Y.

Yelp
I miss the taste of Hong Kong. This is a place where I found it back without going back to Hong Kong. From the seating arrangement to the service it felt like Hong Kong. Yes it is not the most clean environment but it is just like Hong Kong. The service fast and the waiter seems to have no feelings but it felt like Hong Kong. The portion is huge, which is not like Hong Kong. I love the black pepper pork chops, it has lots of flavors. If I live in the area I think I will be back all the time.
google avatar

Max B.

Yelp
Just a great hole in the wall to relax and have some great food. I had the pan fried egg with beef and pickled radish today
google avatar

Yelp
We came by on a Friday afternoon and were seated immediately. Thank goodness we got a table right away because it was packed soon after! It is a local HK cafe so yes, it was really casual and loud inside. Service was so-so. Not much interaction except for ordering food and receiving the check. Mixed milk tea and coffee - It was veeeerrrryyyyyy sweet but delicious. Super creamy and thick as well but I tasted more of the milk tea than coffee. We actually got this as a complimentary for one of the dishes we ordered! Egg drop sauce and shrimps chow fun - Exactly like how you'd expect it. Runny, perfectly cooked noodles, and tons of shrimps. A little bit too bland for my liking though. 3/5 for that. Fried tofu and fish filets with rice - Rice was kind of hard tbh buuuutttt! Tofu and fish filets tasted sooo yummy. They seasoned this just perfect and omg the smell lol. We couldn't wait to dig in as soon as it was brought out. Price wise, it wasn't so bad. We paid less than 40$ for our meal. Would recommend and come back to try other items.
google avatar

Yelp
Worsening Hong Kong style cafe I've been to!! Worst food I've tried in Bay Area! All dishes are covered with lots of sticky thickening corn powder!!! Bad taste! No taste !!

Chor Ha C.

Yelp
Tastes exactly the same as if from Hong Kong! the milk tea is so good, reminds me of home. The portions are huge as well, definitely worth the money. Everything is so flavourful and service is quick and staff is super nice.
google avatar

Eva T.

Yelp
3.5/5 We ordered house special fried rice and baked pork w/ portugese sauce. Fried rice- 3.5- 4 with added pepper. It was a little wet to my liking. Not too salty and honestly it's not that bad. Baked pork- 3/5... I don't really like this dish just because there's not much flavor to it.. it smells and looks like curry but doesn't taste like it. Will not order this dish again

Yelp
Want some HK style food? This might be our new spot to go to. My husband and I are always looking for places to eat at night. We decided to go a bit further out from where we normally go. Local Cafe didn't disappoint. When you first walk in, you probably think the restaurant isn't that special with the old style booths. But, you're in for a surprise with the nice quick service and large portions of food. We got the ramen with spam and one of t h e pasta and rice dishes. My own personal preference is that I don't prefer the pasta/rice dish only because it was slightly sweet. My husband did like it and thought it was better than other HK places we've been. The ramen was delicious and I ate pretty much all of it. I was pretty stuffed by the end.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
We have been looking for a HK style cafe down here. Happy to have found this place. Super low key and they speak Cantonese here. Open all day and evening long with no closure midday. Menus can be QR code or laminated. Booth and table seating. Decor is exactly what you would expect. I ordered the preserved egg with pork porridge as my stomach was kind of bothering me and my husband ordered this beef and rice dish (pictured). Both were delicious and came with varies utensils, etc for sharing. Complimentary tea was good - hint of honey? Overall, decent service. Portions are generous and affordable. One unisex bathroom in the back. We plan on coming back.

Yelp
It's no accident this restaurant has a low rating, surprised they can be in business this long. As noted in several reviews, it is poorly managed. The staff is exceptionally rude, and the service is subpar. If you're looking for an enjoyable meal with excellent service, there are plenty of other, more affordable options in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first time trying Hong Kong food. A friend describe it as inspired by British and Chinese cuisine, and I could definitely tell with the dish that I got. I got the two kinds of sauce fried rice (corn and chicken in cream sauce and pork chop with tomato rice). I thought that the meal was very home-y. Portions were pretty big in my opinion. If you're not hungry, you could probably share with a friend as I had leftovers. Service was a bit slow, and they mixed up my order but that was most likely due to have a big group with several similar orders, so I'm not holding it against the wait staff. The ambiance gives a family friendly restaurant and more of a casual/cheap(er)/quick eats type of place. Plenty of parking as it's in a plaza. I'd probably come again if I was ever specifically looking for Hong Kong style food :-)

Nyanya L.

Yelp
great authentic hk cafe food!!!! It taste just like home. Highly recommend the Beef chow fun
