"Local Green, which sits on the edge of West End in Vine City, is leading the health movement in a food desert. So it’s an easy choice for us when we need something quick and good to eat that won’t weigh us down—like painful recalls of Falcon’s seasons still do. The small, brightly colored space has only a few tables, so it mostly functions as a takeout spot. We love showing our appreciation for early 2000s Georgia rappers with the Bubba Sparxxx, packed with tangy BBQ jackfruit that pulls off the consistency of pulled pork. For a pescatarian option, the salmon sliders deliver big with a slightly sweet bun and citrusy herbal sauce. Even the huge grass wall prominently covering the large curved wall isn’t annoying since it’s promoting the power of greens." - nina reeder, juli horsford, demarco williams, jacinta howard
"Casual vegan and pescatarian restaurant, Local Green sits right on the edge of West End in Vine City, where it led the health food movement in the former food desert." - jacinta howard, juli horsford
"Local Green in Vine City offers vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian options, so it’s a great meet-in-the-middle spot for different dietary restrictions. The counter-service restaurant has hip-hop-themed sandwiches like the tasty Bubba Sparxx packed with tangy BBQ jackfruit, and the Rappers Delight (our favorite)—a warm toasted hoagie stuffed with grilled salmon, mushroom, onions, and melty vegan cheese. Beat the AUC students in line and grab one of the few countertop seats facing the street. While you sip on a refreshing cucumber and cilantro lemonade or their blueberry-heavy Cell Therapy, the busy street view is a good place to zone out while your pal explains how Mercury retrograde made them late." - nina reeder, jacinta howard
"Local Green is technically in Vine City, but it does hug the edge of West End (so don’t yell at us). When it arrived, it reignited a movement toward healthy eating in a food desert. A stop at the bright and busy counter-service joint is an easy choice for us when we need something quick and filling that won’t leave us feeling sluggish. Eat at the street-facing counter while showing appreciation for early 2000s Georgia rappers with dishes like the Bubba Sparxxx, packed with tangy BBQ jackfruit that pulls off the consistency of pulled pork. And for pescatarian friends, there’s non-vegan options on the menu, like the salmon sliders enhanced by a slightly sweet bun and citrusy herbal sauce." - jacinta howard
"The menu at Gigi’s Italian Kitchen in Candler Park may be small and ever-changing, but it’s reliably excellent. So don’t be fooled by the basic “green salad” title on the menu. If it’s available, it’s worth ordering. Tangy balsamic, crisp cucumber, and radish make it refreshing, with black garlic adding a slightly spicy kick. Adorned with edible purple flowers, it’s a salad that looks like it’s ready for its close-up." - jacinta howard, nina reeder, juli horsford
