A true local treasure. Family run in all the best ways! Carefully curated local goods combined with old school butcher shop. I called in my special request for a bone in prime rib. Cut was as requested perfection. As a full time realtor I am always looking for niche places that live neighborliness. The family and crew at Local Yocal exemplify the best!

Google
The staff is always super helpful. I love the selection and even more the quality, and I haven't even gotten the meat behind the counter yet (only because I'm not much of a red meat person). Recently I got the precooked/prepped almondine green beans and it didn't look like much in the package, but it was super easy to prepare and lasted me for like 5 meals! Their hummus is my absolute favorite from anywhere and the sliced turkey meat is superb (I can finally feel good about having sandwhich meat). I've been coming for groceries for a while now, and it feels so good to know I'm getting food that my body feels good to eat. Supporting local business is now one of my priorities, and Local Yocal makes that easy for me. Thank you so much for all you do!!!

Google
I live near the Local Yocal food truck but had never been to the store. I'm glad I went there. The meat is all hormone free. If I'm correct they are a butcher shop and cut the meat, poultry etc on site. They have freshly made sausages and brats. It's a nice market. They have Nates snack products and Popstar Popsicles. I use to have to drive to dallas to get those. There are fresh jams and lots of other unique and fantastic snacks. Yes, the meats are expensive but you get what you pay for. I want to give a shout out to the wonderful young man who helped me, I believe it's Garret. He is amazing!!!

Google
Local Yocal always has the best selection of Angus, Grass Fed, and American Wagyu beef. They have a great selection of other locally raised meats and local products. Buying meat from a regular grocer just doesn't seem appetizing anymore. Their customer service is top notch they have a great reward program and the product is a+. They have weekly deals and sometimes monthly deals that are amazing. We have picked up their 20lb wagyu ground beef package 2 to 3 times at this point. I recommend Local Yocal to anyone that asks where they can find the best meat. I've tried almost every butcher in the Garland, Plano, Frisco, and McKinney area and this has beat out all the rest for us hands down. Can't go wrong here.

Google
The only place we buy Wagyu ribeyes—unreal flavor and quality every single time. Their Wagyu hotdogs and burgers are just as incredible. If you’re serious about your meat, this is the spot. Best meat market around, hands down! 🥩🔥

Google
Came here for posture-raised , organic eggs. For some reason, their eggs look like Costco's "organic" eggs. They are big, all of them same color and with clean shall. As I know, posture-raised organic eggs should not be giant size as most of the eggs are sold in the USA. Normally, they are much smaller , and they are different in color, and shells are durty. It's strange that each egg was accurately cleaned here. Also, we bought humanly raised chicken. I assume, it's means that chicken was raised without a touch of "civilization," which heavily poisoned food and soil in the USA. That kind of chicken normally tastes heavenly delicious. Unfortunately, after tasting this chicken, we just needed to throw it out. P.S. Who are you to give me order to remove my review, my opinion? If poor you don't know how real eggs, and chicken, prodused in natural way, should to look inside and out and how they should to taste, it's not my problem . Leave your command tone for your home habitats

My wife and I are lucky to live right down the street from Local Yocal. Their meat is the best around, we’re here quite frequently to pick things up. They have a perfect location downtown McKinney. There are grilling classes we hope to attend at some point soon but they fill up quickly. Hope to get into one this year. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed!

Google
Delicious and high quality meat cuts as well as eggs. Excellent customer service in helping me decide what cut would be the best for us, loved it!

Yelp
Outstanding menu! Outstanding quality food! The staff I felt with~superb! Love love this place! Everything is sourced locally & the owners go above and beyond to make sure the experience their customers have is a great one! The atmosphere is also great! Not one negative thing to say about Local Yocal farm to Market

Yelp
Nice place - got a nice sirloin. But we went to buy eggs. I should have looked before buying. Identical brown eggs... I was suspicious. Cooked them - the same anaemic stuff at Kroger. Seems they just bought brown eggs there and then put in new box and tripled the price. I'd give 1 star except the good sirloin. I'll go back to a real fresh egg provider. RESPONSE TO OWNER COMMENT - Thanks for the prompt reply! :-). My point is that they were not what's expected as fresh and sold at $8. Not mass produced eggs are rich, dark yellow/orange yolks. Its ok. I expected too much. Simply - If they are mass produced and genetically engineered hens to make their eggs the same, they are not fresh local chicken eggs. It's OK - Lesson learned. Thanks for your prompt reply.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food and service. Have eaten here 4 times now with a group of 2-3 peeps. Between us have covered everything from sandwhicjes to bbq and to brunch as well. Ingredients are of a high quality for both the meats and sides Service is impeccable from the friendly hostess to tableside waitresses and the bartender as well. Without a doubt a 5 star all around. A fine establishment that seems to care and try to be the best

Yelp
We ordered the burgers. My husband & grandson had the Hamilton burger. They both ate the entire burger and said they were so delicious. I had just a burger which was delicious and cooked to perfection. Our waiter was on top of things and was very friendly. The girls at the front got us a table in the event room because the restaurant was so full but we enjoyed the space.

Yelp
Quality of the meat is great. I like that you can buy ground beef bulk for a better price. Grass fed and local is a win!

Yelp
Great selection of meats and groceries. The service is always excellent and friendly staff to assist. The ambiance is amazing and a great selection of other necessities.

Yelp
Great wagyu burgers and steaks and love the house seasonings! It's hard to put a price on top quality beef, but do you get your bang for the buck here for sure!!!

Yelp
I was referred to check it out. Bought 1.5 pounds of Grass-fed beef Friday afternoon. Fire up the grill Sunday afternoon and opened the meat to see this. What a waste of $18. Never again

Yelp
Just finished Mom's 80th birthday celebration. The hostess sat us w/ a personalized BD card for Mom. The Manager came by to say "make sure you leave enough room for a special dessert" Our Waitress, Nena P was awesome. Made sure Mom had a comfy seat, addressed the wabbley table, and was great at handling my impatient sister. The experience was beyond excellent. Nina's recommendations were spot on, she was extrememly attentive. Can't wait to go back next time we're in town.

Yelp
Always a great shopping experience. There are so many good selections. Service is great. So nice to have a place to buy locally resourced food!

Yelp
Great cuts of meats you might not find elsewhere but be warned. You will need to cook or freeze these within the first few days of obtaining this meat. We did not and you can see what we ended up with in the picture. It was green and I have never seen that on a lamest before. Needless to say all our fault for not looking at the date. Had a busy week and never got around to cooking it and finally had a break and it was green. Yes the picture does not do it justice nut it was green and smelled as well. As I said though the sell by date was 8/10/22. So all I am saying is if you go in there to get a nice cut of meat make sure you are cooking it within the next few days or you are throwing it in the freezer as I do not want you throwing a $40+ steak into the trash as I had to. It was so heart breaking.

Yelp
The food is great. We love the chicken and steak that we have eaten so far. The selection was great for the size of the store and all of the staff were nice. We will be going back for the great quality products. There were a limited number of people in the store. Most of the patrons were wearing masks. The thing that was most concerning to me was that none of the store personal were wearing masks.

Yelp
Really good bacon. The maple bacon is the best bacon i have ever had. They do things fresh or not at all. Also the service is very honest. Go there for beef or pork or egg nog.

Yelp
Butchers, Wagyu Steaks, Grass Fed Beef, Prime Angus, Duroc (Heritage) Pork, Wagyu Hot Dogs, House Smoked Bacon, Roasted Turkey Slices, Farm Fresh Eggs, Duck Eggs, Boutique Seasonings and so much more!! This is the place where we all need to stop and shop - every week. Meats and goods... Natural. Real food - not factory "food". THANK YOU, LOCAL YOCAL!

Yelp
So much fun to wander through this place. From the olive oil to the spices to the wine to the meat counter, this place is a gastronomic delight and feast for the senses!

Yelp
This was a great find today. The steak and chicken were cooked perfect and season was on spot. Ari our server was patient with our changes and helpful in recommendations. Atmosphere was lovely sitting outside. All the staff was very friendly. Would definitely recommend Local Yocal

Yelp
Fun and interesting store. Eclectic array of cooking products, t-shirts, food, and local novelty items. I purchased some really great BBQ seasonings there. Staff was friendly and attentive. Recommended!

Yelp
Really love having a place like this close to where we live. I love the selection of meats they have. Also all the other products they carry from cheese, jams, breads.... I even think they have soaps and what not. My husband loves the brand of milk they carry, he always picks up a strawberry and chocolate one. I really like the monthly box specials they have. All the meat is super clean and fresh tasting.

Yelp
Love it here! Great food. Great service. Friendly staff. Love, Danielle! Freedom loving business. My family enjoys our Sunday's here after church. The kids usually get Mac n cheese and quesadillas or grilled cheese EVERYWHERE we go, but it's nice to see them venture out and get something different. They love getting the Little Texan here and it's really a meal fit for an adult. The adults love the burgers, brunch enchilada, steak. Still excited to try more. Cocktails are great too. Bring on the blood Mary's!

Yelp
Summary: come here. Now. Ambience: Texas, upscale, casual, quirky, elegant, saloon, this has a little bit of everything for everyone. Service: from the jump, the people were excellent. Connor (our waiter) was prompt, personable, easy to have a convo but also sensitive to when you were having one of your own. About as good as they come - he felt like a waiter and family at the same time. Mac n cheese: is the new top dog for me. Thick chunks of wagyu beef bacon, pasta is cooked perfectly, cheese is creamy, saucy, and perfectly salty. If my cholesterol could handle it I'd eat it once a week. Angus Brisket: literally didn't need a knife. Bark was good, and the fat is easy to trim if you don't want it. The Bbq sauce came in a medicine bottle, which was a nice touch. We tried two sausages: pepper garlic and jalapeño cheddar. Both were brown (not red), so don't freak out. It tastes fine - jalapeño cheddar seemed to have more flavor. Cole slaw & potato salad: very balanced, not too sweet/tart/creamy. Veggies were crisp. Texas toast was home-made (not from Walmart). This meal was so good I even liked the water. But after talking to the bartender, there are a few cocktails that need some trying, as well as some desserts. This is one of the few places where you want everything on the menu, and their execution backs it up. It's probably my new local favorite - we'll see after exploring the menu more.

Yelp
OK, where do I start? Went here off a recommendation from my wife's co-worker. From the moment we walked in the door they were so nice and welcoming. It's like an apple store for butchers lol. The steaks are a little bit pricey, but in life you get what you pay for. I got two 1lb steaks for about $25 a piece and when I got done pan frying these bad boy's OOOOMMMGGG!!!! AMAZING!!!! No more salt grass steak house for me, I'll make my own steaks thank you very much. This place is highly recommended, however be ready to pay for quality. Also there salt and pepper spice is all you need for the steak. Add a garlic clove and a quarter stick of butter and you are good to go. Watch YouTube to learn how to pan fry a steak.

Yelp
Fantastic little butcher shop located in historic downtown McKinney. They have premium cuts of wagyu and grass fed Angus steaks as well as a small assortment of sausages, pork, etc. Over the past couple months I've sampled a little bit of everything and haven't been disappointed once. They also have a farmer's market section where you can snag seasonal veggies, fresh baked bread, local honey, jams, spices, etc. Prices are very reasonable for this kind of quality meat and all of the staff are friendly and very knowledgable.

April M.

Yelp
This is a great tasting, fresh, local source of beef. We travel around the country and buy in bulk whenever we can. This 25lb deal for $200 is amazing. We make beef jerky and its great tasting. Thanks Local Yocal

Yelp
This butcher shop made my Christmas Eve dinner party a success! I wanted something different this year instead of the same old tired ham. I decided I wanted to cook a standing rib roast but was nervous about it turning out as I'd never done it before. The women I talked to said to try a boneless rib roast since it was my first one, as they are easier to slice up (and cheaper too!) They gave me instructions on how to cook it and suggested I buy this special thermometer which you stick inside the roast but the cord goes outside the oven so you can see the display and know when it's that magic number of 120 degrees. The roast turned out great, was juicy and delicious! This was a pricey piece of meat but well worth it for a special dinner. I really liked the staff. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. If you are buying around the holidays, you will have to order in advance, so just keep that in mind. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
The Best Chicken I hv ever grilled. Their Whole chickens are cold water cooled w no added water and automatically crispy skin. Unlike supermarket chicken, cuz it's not pumped w water. I can't wait to smoke their chicken and experience the most tender meat I've truly ever cooked. I also had a sirloin and a roast. Everything was tender w so much flavor. Worth the reasonable butcher prices. I will make the trek again, and stock up on their high quality fresh meats
google avatar

Yelp
Top quality steaks! No need to go to a steak house anymore! Get a quality steak, a cast iron pan and an oven!

Kevin J.

Yelp
Just grilled a waygu tri-tip purchased here yesterday. WOW!!! Great price (for QUALITY beef) and even better service! Also had lunch at their restaurant around the corner which was OUTSTANDING!! Keep up the GR8 job fellow carnivores!

David C.

Yelp
Excellent meats I have been coming to this locattion for over 3 years. I get Wagyu ribeye & filet mignon each time I shop which are so tender a must try if you are a steak lover. I also purchase grass fed ribeye and filet which are great too. Wagyu ground beef is so tender the burger will melt in your mouth. Large selection of seasonings I have tried a few and the vegetables love their large potatoes for baking.

Yelp
Great place. Liam was very helpful over the phone and in guiding me through process of ordering a pig for upcoming July 4th pig roast. Great local butcher that carries choice cuts of meat, has knowledgeable staff and also sells some terrific items from local suppliers... honey, elderberry syrup, seasonings. Perfect setting just off the square in historic McKinney and worth the drive if you're not lucky enough to live there.

Yelp
Great store that focus on local products, with a in-house butcher shop that sources local pasture-raised meats! This is a pretty nifty little shop (mostly a butchery) that plays a big hand into the seemingly popular locavore-oriented city of McKinney. A round of applause please, especially from the people of the chain-dreary city of Dallas! I was not sure initially what to make of the cowboy-hat wearing, plaid-shirt, boot-stomping Texan owner, Matt, but turns out to be a very friendly and knowledgeable guy who is set on changing the Texan image of the ubiquitous franchising culture that's set to expand soulless individualistic profit to one that loves sharing the bounty of the land, even down to the dirt business under our feet (something typically found in mom and pop places that shows off local goods). As a pioneer to the McKinney locavore scene years back, he has really put into motion what is now a trend for this beautifully original town of McKinney in the far flung suburb of Dallas. If I lived closer, I probably would shop here often. But I'll still come to visit since both the city and the store are charming. Additionally, what's healthy and good that they have here that I couldn't find in any natural/ healthy markets like Whole Foods, Sprouts, or Natural Grocers? Pure white lard without any preservatives made from grass-fed pork fat. Not even Mexican markets has this (their "manteca" is laden with chemicals that it's better to make it fresh at home). Now, the fact that there's actually a place where I can go in and buy at a fair price, now that's bliss! And in addition to organic pasture-raised chicken eggs, they also have duck eggs! I loved those - and now if they can get goose eggs, I'd be sold (had this only once in my life but they were the most amazing eggs I've ever tasted). Christmas wish list, maybe?

Yelp
Oh my Local Yocal you did it again. Wagyu McKinney cut perfection. So easy to cook. Touch of Meat Church gospel seasoning and it's to Heaven and back in one bite.

Mya G.

Yelp
Everything was awesome! Great customer service and great food. It's my go-to restaurant in Mckinney!
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Tried it out for lunch today and loved the chicken salad sandwich. Great service. Food came out in perfect timing...my hubby had the chicken fried steak and that was delicious as well. Plan to visit again for dinner.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
If you're willing to spend a few dollars more to get much higher quality meats and produce and breads, Local Yocal is the place to do it in the northern suburbs (Allen/McKinney/Melissa), even when the McKinney market isn't going on you have the opportunity to still support local businesses and local farms by shopping here, and the QUALITY, I tell you, the QUALITY is amazing! I wish I had got here to review them earlier but Kacie and Austin have really nailed it. You won't regret stopping by!
google avatar

Susana C.

Yelp
I wandered in here because someone was out front grilling up steak that smelled delish. I walked out of there with summer sausage, wagyu bologna, beef tips, a few rib eyes, two kinds of salsa and 2 bags of Paqui chips. Good thing I had house guests that weekend, we had a feast! Great quality beef, I mean truly outstanding, and worth the extra cost. Even the chips and salsa we picked up were scores better than anything I have found in other high end grocery stores. I'll be back again to try their wagyu brisket. Go meat!
google avatar

Grant W.

Yelp
First time here. Found them from article in local magazine. My son was in town and wanted to try bbq. Was looking for brisket. Adam was super helpful explaining the various grades and even some tips for cooking. We bought the wagyu brisket. It was smaller in size (12 lbs) than the angus grade and was trimmed really nicely. The meat turned out fantastic -- big hit for the family. Will be back again to buy more meat!

Yelp
We had a great time at this three hour long, Steak 101 class that was very informative. The first hour is full of Rancher to Butcher information you may and may not want to know. The second hour is in the Butcher room where you see the different cuts of beef and learn the differences. The third hour is eating the different cuts of beef hot off the grill...an awesome grill at that! They also have other Texas made items sold in their store. Get the Groupon and your friends together and do this Steak 101 class.
google avatar

Lorraine G.

Yelp
The Good: The Steak 101 class was very entertaining and a great deal if you get the Groupon Special. You don't get a full meal or even tips on how to cook steak but more about how to differentiate the different cuts. We bought the Waygyu Bistro filet and though cuts were small it was very tasty. The butcher shop was well organized, clean and easy to purchase goods. The Bad: I spent $58 on Grass fed Sirloin Coulotte that the Steak 101 class instructor oversold as the secret best part of the cow that you typically get at Brazilian Steak Houses. Reality was the toughest chewiest steak cooked medium rare that was hard to swallow with a very gamey taste. Wish I would have spent that money at a Brazilian Steak House instead.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Please note - this is a review for his NEW location that at this time is not yet opened - the new place is located in Louisiana- I was able to attend a private event and sample the bbq - I am very impressed- it's some of the best bbq and Fixin's. Once it is open do go!!

Yelp
Waygu rib eye over the top tasty and tender. Worth the money. Baby back ribs full of flavor. The local bread and eggs are wonderful

Yelp
We just moved to McKinney about 6 months ago and were looking for local businesses to frequent when we found this place. The staff is always super helpful and friendly! They carry the products of a lot of other local suppliers including fresh milk, eggs, cheese, honey, coffee and a bunch of other amazing food items. We've actually never bought their fresh meat (although I'm sure it is amazing). Our two little girls love coming in to play on their old electronic horse ride (even though it doesn't actually go anymore) as well as the two old antique tractors parked out front. All in all an amazing local business that we visit at least once if not twice each week. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Alan B.

Yelp
Local Yocal cater a lunch for a business event we were having over at the Hidden Springs event center. It was a really nice salad topped off with some great smoked beef. The highlight of the meal was the fresh ricotta donuts. So light and delicious, fried in pecan oil.
google avatar

Ariel S.

Yelp
$7 for farm fresh eggs and they didn't even have an orange yolk, that tells you they aren't pasture raised but are fed grain. Also bought a fermented product that had been expired, so it must've been there awhile! Pretty pricey for what you get but at least the store is cute.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
Greatness on the grill!! If you get an opportunity to attend steak 101 at Local Yocal.. GO! don't even consider not going. You start with a lesson about your beef. Then you actually view the meat that has been properly cut. Then you get to taste the meats. Let me just say it was like having an orgasm in my mouth. It is so amazing that one side of beef can produce such a variety of textures and tastes. Wow wow wow. Yes folks. Locally sourced grass fed and finished makes a difference. Go see Matt and take some home.
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
I attended Steak 101 here. OMG it was awesome. Matt was our host. He gave history and background on all the cuts of meat. Then they cooked 18 cuts of meat for all to sample. I learned a ton at this class. And Mmmmm good is all I can say. Check this place out! You won't be sorry!!!
google avatar

M S.

Yelp
Very friendly and helpful staff, and excellent cuts! Not cheap, but well worth paying the extra money for quality meat. We will absolutely be back.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Steak 101 - entertaining, educational & delicious! Highly recommend you sign up for the next class. Perfect for a date-night that will lead to becoming a regular patron of this wonderful local butcher shop. Matt Hamilton is passionate about healthy natural food w/ an emphasis on fresh quality beef. Local Yocal's cuts of grass-fed beef are amazing - Wagyu beef is unbelievable.

TK T.

Yelp
The Wagyu meat available here is D'Lish! It's TOP with the marbling and taste -- melts in your mouth good...worth every dollar and more!!! We love this place with all the great cuts of beef and the fresh local salads. They have some yummy organic chocolates and pastry items also!! Highly recommend!

Thomas P.

Yelp
Excellent place to buy great meat and other items. The milk was a great find. While we bought mike and eggs, the meat is the star of the show. A bit pricey, but the quality and flavor were spectacular. It will be my go to place for those occasions that require something remarkable
