39 Best Restaurants in Tokyo Right Now | Condé Nast Traveler

"This cubby-sized bistro emanates home-away-from-home hearth energy, with rustic wooden fixtures and shelves lined with woven baskets. Farm-fresh vegetables sit beside the flower arrangements on the counter, while chef Katy Cole mans the stove and greets each guest like an old friend. The short but well-curated selection of natural wines showcases regions such as Loire In France and Collio in Italy, presented alongside craft beers sourced mainly from small Japanese producers." - Melinda Joe

Finally made it out to Locale. I loved the fresh, California cuisine. Super tasty dishes with lots of yummy veggies and great seafood. Chefs table was great. Awesome to watch Katy and the team work their magic!

Google
Absolutely adore this place. Love what chef Katy is doing with farm to table here in Tokyo and working with local farmers to bring fresh ingredients to an ever changing menu. Stepping into her restaurant and seeing the kitchen really brought me back to dining at Chez Panisse. Loved the vegetable forward flavors and focus on letting the ingredients themselves shine through. Wine selection was quite nice as well. Highly recommend!

My absolutely favorite brunch place in the whole city. Their avocado toast is genuinely amazing yet simple. The staff is always welcoming and friendly, makes you feel like home

Google
Small little brunch place that offers high quality dishes that have a unique twist in either ingredients or preparation. You can literally watch the team make your food in front of you, and you can see how carefully and with love for the food they do it. It‘s a bit of a wait since the place is popular and offers limited seating but it‘s worth the wait - once you‘re inside, the order is processed quickly. We had the wagyu burger and the sour note of the salad balanced out the fatty meat patty perfectly.

Lovely little spot for brunch, offering delicately prepared dishes that, while rooted in staple Western flavors, feel light and refined. The shop itself is quite small and has become very popular, so I’d highly recommend making a reservation in advance to secure a spot! (Even though the reservation system is a bit annoying because it’s through tablecheck.com and you have to do a 1,000¥ deposit per person in case you cancel or don’t show up to your reservation. But showing up without a reservation can take a bit of waiting!)

My wife and I decided to find something a little less ostentatious following evenings at Narisawa and the Pizza Bar on 38th — and we’re so glad we did. Locale is a quaint location with humble decor and the most excellent of food. There was not a single dish that we weren’t impressed by whether it be the roast carrot radicchio with a carrot leaf sauce to die for, the avocado with lentils, cilantro, and shibazuke yogurt, or the fukudome pork with Napa cabbage and beets — we could go on, but you get the picture. We wish Chef Katie and the team continued success and will definitely find our way back here if we end up in Tokyo again.

Great experience. Staff are very attentive and welcoming. The concept of the restaurant is locally grown farm produce. Food is very tasty and they have a good selection of wines too. There are around 4-5 tables and a large counter so experience feels very personalised. Recommended. If you want to see more photos and tips, feel free to check out my Instagram → @6yearsinjapan

One sunny morning in early February, my wife and I trained out to Meguro for brunch at the Locale. To put it simply, it was delicious, quite arguably one of the best brunches I’ve had in Tokyo. The avocado toast with egg was my favorite, which is surprising since I’m not a big avocado toast fan. The commodore was a fascinating twist to eggs Benedict. The banana pancake was yummy and quite substantial. The ingredients for all three dishes were of high quality. The staff was friendly, dedicated to their craft, and willing to offer suggestions and answer our innumerable questions. I look forward to trying dinner sometime in the near future!!

Yelp
Farm to table, the most mouth watering Japanese ingredients, and California culinary expertise translate into one of the most amazing dining experiences imaginable. Set in a cozy, comfortable setting, its informal atmosphere strips away the traditionally austere Japanese dining interaction, opening up conversations, interactions and a vibe that is unmatched anywhere else in the world. Consider yourself lucky to sit at the chef's counter or huddle into a corner with close friends and immerse yourself in a world where the only things that matter are wine pairings and the next course.

Yelp
A superb and comfortable spot in Meguro. The food was superb, and I enjoyed the landscape of a restaurant perfectly organized. The staff from chef to waiter is truly wonderful.

Yelp
Home away from home in Tokyo! Love the chef and the staff. It felt like we were in a friend's kitchen. The banana pancakes are pancakes are to die for along with other brunch foods. All the farm to table food for dinner was heavenly. Beautiful place with delectable food and amazing people!

Yelp
Farm to table with a true chef's touch. What the farm brings in today is what you'll eat tonight. And you'll love every bite. Went, tried, hooked. Everything done to perfection, including the service and the chat with the friendly owner-chef. Choose the corse menu with a choice of meat, fish, or both as main. Go the full menu, both meat and fish. You can do it. I did! Organic wines to match the dishes. Home made focaccia to warm your heart. What could be done better? Very little. Okay, maybe an espresso maker would be a nice touch. And a little high quality grappa to go in the espresso or just to sip with the espresso. 5,500 yen for the one main dish set, 6,500 if you get both. Next, I really want to try the brunch on a Sunday (available Saturdays too). Small, cozy place. Reserve early!

Yelp
This is hands down the best restaurant I've ever been to. I love the original courses, atmosphere, flavors, and Katy the chef is very talented and sweet! It's a great date night spot, and somewhere you want to bring all your friends to try! I recommend going and just letting Katy cook for you, you will love everything you try! Trust her!

Yelp
Wow. I'm pretty sure this is one of the best meals ever. Katie is engaging and so talented. Definitely our go-to from now on when I'm Tokyu. So damn good. Watching Katie make English muffins for brunch tomorrow. Will be back for sure.
