Great sushi! We were recommended this place by a local and it did not disappoint! The cocktails were hand crafted and delicious. The food was outstanding. We had some very unique sushi rolls, one with cilantro which was killer and another one with some really unique flavors. Can’t remember the names so I guess we will have to come back and try more! Priced very well for such high quality.

The food wasn’t fresh. Both ginger and wasabi is old as shown in the photo. The rolls are not full either. Why is it cut in half like that? Very disappointed. Also, half off on Monday’s starts at 3pm. I arrived at 2:30pm and half off row wasn’t honored. Glad I didn’t order drinks. The waitress gave attitude for no reason all. Give me a break.

This place is AMAZING!! Excellent food and service was fantastic. We went on a Monday night not realizing it was 1/2 price sushi all day. We were told the wait would be 1 hour and 15 for our party of five. We waited 40 minutes and were called in. SO glad we waited because the food was really incredible. California rolls, mango rolls, king rolls, wings, soft pretzel and beverages - didn’t get photos because we ate it all up pretty fast.

Very tasty tempura deep-fried salmon roll!! My only recommendation would be to make the portions bigger because there is a big chance you will still be hungry after one rolls portion. Crab Rangoon are not on my photos but it was also a smaller portion. I thinks it’s a great vibe place and worth checking out! Kids friendly. Updated. Funny enough — I came there again with friends and ordered same stuff. Likes it more in summer 2024! So changing the rating to 5 stars.

I got too excited and forgot to take a photo of our sushi. A pet peeve of mine is when sushi rolls are so big that they are uncomfortable to eat in one bite. Many places in Charleston are like that. But finally, I have found locals and all is right in the world again…. They have one bite sushi rolls. I also am not a huge fan of yellowfin and they didn’t give me any grief when I asked to exchange for normal tuna. Thank you Locals!!

My lady and I come every other Monday for their 1/2 off Sushi Deal! The food is always delicious and quickly served. Our only complaint has been the lack of service and ease when it comes to the server aspect. Hoping it gets better.

We’ve been here multiple times and continue to love this place! This was our first time sitting outside on the covered patio. Our waiter, Walker W., was fantastic! A shout out for his exceptional service, not to mention that our food was delicious once again! Well done!

Great local place with live music and a great outdoor patio in the back. The service is very good and the sushi may not be the best in town but the rolls are quite good. I'll definitely be going back when I need a quick sushi fix.

I've been to Local's a couple of times and it was great choice for a date on Valentine's Day! Excellent customer service. We really liked the Firecracker and Holy City Rolls. Absolutely delicious! Will return next time to try their happy hour specials!

I've been going to this Local's for over ten years and it's still my favorite. Since I no longer live down the road, I definitely don't go as often. To be honest, I hadn't been in a long while when I decided to stop in this past week for lunch. I'm happy to say they've still got it. It was a late lunch and we were sharing so we we ordered two specialty rolls and one regular roll. That was the perfect amount of food for two people and it came out super fast. I was feeling nostalgic about hanging at the back bar and watching live music on the patio, but I'll have to get back again soon for that experience.

Great please and not expensive, sushi is amazing and staff is friendly, would definetly come back again. Ambiance is quiet and welcoming. Although coming back day once I received the bill and attempted to use the free saki yelp offer I was told that I should have told them in advance because there is another size for the offer. The bill indicated small saki and the offer was for the same, therefore do not know what did they mean. Giving them the offer in advance defeats the purpose of genuinely making a good review without letting them know I will leave a review. This is just an FYI overall this place is amazing.

I love locals sushi! It's a great place to go if you love to eat half price sushi on a Monday, I've heard. I was looking for a quick bite after shopping so I decided to stop by and try a few rolls. Since I had never been there, I asked the bartender what she recommend and the local lovers, tuna lovers, and Mt Pleasant roll were in her top! I ordered the Local Lovers and an eel roll to go. The food did take a while to come out for a to go order but they informed me they only had on sushi person and large party. I was able to hang out and chill at the bar and have some water while I waited. The atmosphere was very chill as it was a Sunday. I can't wait to go back and try their half price sushi again!

Once again, locals did not disappoint. My seemingly boring night developed into an unforgettable experience, arguably better than the four seasons Orlando. As we walked in, I caught eye of a famous locals legend, Patrick Cruz. Unbeknownst to me, he was our server for the night. His people skills are the stuff of legends and he kept us greatly entertained with his silly antics. The food came out lickety split, before I could even say "local lovers". All in all, I came for the sushi and left with cheerful memories to last a lifetime. Locals never fails to let me down.

Extremely Americanized sushi with cream cheese and/or mayonnaise. The plates handed to us were greasy like they forgot to wash them, they gave us 2 new plates and they were still dirty. I don't understand how can it get such a high rating considering this is supposed to be a foodie town?!

We got a handful of rolls this evening. Eh. King roll was pretty bad - inside way overcooked. Mango roll would have been fine if mango was ripe. Ebi ebi roll was decent. Not prepared well...none of the pieces same size, rolls falling apart, rolls were really small for what we paid

As usual, Locals does not disappoint! Went for Monday 1/2 price sushi and enjoyed a variety of rolls. The Kahuna and the locals lovers are my favorites. Highly recommend those rolls! The only thing I was locals had was more variety of wine-adding a sparkling rose to their menu would be really nice!

When did locals start closing early? Went there last night with a big group at 11:30 and they were shut down, a Saturday night too??

It's a sad day for us. We have been enjoying Locals Monday night for roughly 10 years as a family for birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and date nights. This week (4/17/2023) my wife, daughter in law, stepson, and I started to put our order in. As usual my wife modifies her order to be less spicy and my stepson orders his favorite roll without asparagus. The waitress tells us they have a new policy, NO ORDER MODICATIONS. We ask to speak to the manager. The manager arrives at the table and we discuss. She says they have had this policy for a month and "we've found it works quite well. The kitchen production has really increased. They are too "busy" to handle special orders."(see pic 4) We asked if this new policy is posted because it isn't on the menu (see attached pic 2 and 3). She said it is posted on the front door (see pic 1). We were shocked. It's pretty standard service for sushi anywhere that they will prepare it how ever you like "fresh" not premade. To be honest, we have felt the quality of the food and customer service has gone down since Covid began at Locals Mt Pleasant. The food looks bland. The sushi pieces fall apart. The rolls have gotten smaller. We've also had issues with being overcharged on our check. Some of the waitress staff had been rude to us as well when we questioned charges on the check. To our dismay, When we left on 4/17/2023 we discovered the policy was not posted on the door (see attached pic 1). To be fair, the waitress was kind enough to comp the cost of our drinks. However, we will not be returning to Locals Mt Pleasant. WE LOVE LOCALS WEST ASHLEY ON TUESDAYS!!! The staff is so nice. They really care about the quality of the food. It's always so pretty and appetizing! Always an amazing experience! Our new sushi date home!

Monday Night = Half Price Sushi! I've been going to locals for a while now and it's always a good time. People are always happy to be there, there's easy parking and good food. Last night I got the veggie roll and the hibachi taco and left there paying $10 - a happy gal. I would love to see their happy hour specials do a little better than $1 off beer and wine but that's my only complaint. Their is usually a wait so get their early!

It's got something for everyone Look if you're a hardcore Jiro Dreams of Sushi, this might not please your pretentious palate. However, in terms of American bar and grill it's definitely one of the better ones on Mt Pleasant Island and it's worth a visit if you want a break from the seafood, BBQ and Cajun cuisine. The fish is fresh, and the quality shows. There's a good variety of salmon and tuna along with sesame leaves to add that nutty flavor if desired. The pieces are small so be aware and definitely get an appetizer if you're feeling hungry. But at $32 as of 2022, this is a pretty good value on sashimi platters. The bread and butter of this establishment are their specialty rolls. Right now a lot of them sit at $13 and they're good if you want to mix and match them. Expect extra tempura flakes and fried bits to go with it. The selection of drinks is really nice. The mint julep isn't on the menu but if you ask they'll fix you up a nice one. The Devil's Backbone lager went well. Normally I'm not crazy for lagers but having it fresh on tap as a $5 beer (non happy hour) is quite delightful. There's also a huge assortment of burgers, chicken sandwiches and other bar fare. While my table didn't personally have it, the value proposition is quite reasonable for it. TLDR: sushi and bar food done right.

don't advertise you're open until midnight, and then when someone comes in at 9:45 say to them you have 5 minutes to order and when they do order. mess up their entire meal, get better kitchen staff who care atleast a little and a better managment system who gives a shit enough to do something about it. for the prices yall charge that's insane. get real locals.

Ok, so the FOOD is absolutely delicious and deserves a 5-star. If there was a separate review for how it smells inside... 1-star. Not sure if it's the cleaner, or what, but there is always a kind of "funk" that I can't quite put my finger on. It is very unpleasant, but the drinks and food keep me coming back. Management - I've seen more reviews about the same issue... fix the stank, please?!? :)

If you like variety, this place has a little bit of everything. We ordered 3 different tacos, 2 sushi rolls and a burger with fries. All the food was fairly good. The service that night was less than great. It was fairly slow, I had to ask for refills and when my burger and fries showed up, the fries were cold. They did bring me fresh fries quite quickly. I would return and it's something worth trying as everyone's preference is different.

Locals in Mt Pleasant runs an amazing deal on Monday night - half off almost every single sushi roll (barring 1 or 2 special rolls). Be sure to get in early as the wait can be looong at peak dinner time (we're talking like 1.5 - 2 hours). You provide them with a phone number so you can leave and come back, if desired. Otherwise, you can try to find seating at the bar but there are only 10 bar stools so it tends to always be full. We were waiting for about 45 minutes or so for our table watching football near the bar and the bartender came up to us and said he would save the next 2 bar seats for us since we had been waiting around for so long, which I thought was very nice. Once we took our seats at the bar and cancelled our table reservation, we quickly ordered drinks off of the cocktail menu. I had a strawberry margarita and it was awesome! We ordered 4 rolls and they came out pretty quickly considering how busy things were. I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture of the food! The only negative thing I'll note was that one of the rolls was different than what we ordered, and when we mentioned it to the bartender he quickly put in the correct order to rectify it but still charged us for the incorrect roll. Though I understand they are very busy, I would have expected for the incorrect roll to be removed from the bill. Overall this is a fun place with good drinks and tasty rolls (and cheap on Monday nights!). I'd definitely recommend this spot to friends, but make sure you arrive early!

Yummy sushi for a great price (1/2 price) on Mondays but be ready to WAIT if you dont get here before 6. Don't expect good service or authentic sushi, but the atmosphere is fun and the sushi is cheap (on Mondays) and tastes good. My group of 4 arrived at 5pm on Monday and we had to wait 30 minutes. It's super packed inside but there's a little more room between tables in the patio area (covered outdoor seating). They played a lot of good throwbacks and had sports up on the screens. The sushi was good. It's definitely not authentic sashimi type sushi but they have a ton of creative rolls that nearly everyone is bound to like. It's extremely popular for a reason. The "summer rolls" was actually 1 single summer roll cut into halves for $8. It was yummy but definitely not worth $8... maybe $4. It's also kind of strange that this place sells sushi, Mexican, and bar food. The crab dip was bland (needs more crab and seasoning, maybe old bay) and the chips needed more salt. Our waitress only came back to take our orders and get the check but it she was nice and seemed super busy. Our food came out pretty quickly so nothing to complain about there. Overall, I'd say the pros outweighs the cons. The sushi is cheap (cheaper than just about anywhere) and yummy and the selection is wide. The food comes out quickly and the staff is friendly. The music is bumpin and I like the TVs. On the flip side- the appetizers were underwhelming, especially for the price, and our waitress rarely came back. I'd still come back- I have more rolls to try!

The Locals Tower. It's as good as it looks! This sushi tower of krab & tuna is beyond believable. Beautifully presented and full of amazing flavors. I'm in love! It's surprising how one dish can make a trip so memorable. As a non-local, I've been to several restaurants in Charleston and this is probably going to be my go-to for sushi every time I'm in town. It's just across the Ravenel bridge. When you want to get away from a touristy area, avoid paying for parking, and just want fantastic sushi...this is the place to be.

We just happened upon this place riding around. We thought it was interesting because their menu has such a variety. Appetizers were great! Our sushi was delicious and we got a nice surprise on the bill. We didn't know but Monday is half price sushi all day! The ambiance is pretty cool. We enjoyed the decor and everyone was really laid back. Service was spectacular. We will definitely be going back!

Great indoor and outdoor atmosphere - they are dog friendly so bonus. Food is good though I wish they would mix in it up a bit and I think other sushis are better. But we like the staff and atmosphere so thay added an extra star.

Rico! This place was so good! Our waiter was super pleasant and sweet. Our food was so good! Great place for sushi lovers and non sushi lovers! Hubby had two different types of sushi, and I had two different types of tacos. Kids shared a basket of fries, which were all the fave with them!

noticed when you order online locals add 10% technology fees with 3.5% credit card fee (we like to pay with cash and there is no option anymore) credit card fee ? plus tip.... this adds up very quickly This may be a new way to cash grab from good customers and from a family that would order once per week we have found other choices ... covid pricing is over..

Locals is still my favorite! There menu has changed! I tend to never go on mondays since it's half price night and always a wait but only had to wait 45 minutes and of course it was worth it! I know some people won't be happy about the dollar up charge on the rolls but so what it's fresh sushi and amazing, plus there new location is coming soon! Definitely be sure to try the new menu item pepper tuna roll! It's definitely my new favorite! Y'all are amazing!

A nice tucked away local spot (pun intended), its a great place to grab some sushi or a drink. I always appreciate how quick the staff is and how fast we get our food. The sushi is ok, nothing amazing but not grocery store level either. They do have a large menu for both food and drink which is nice. Dogs are allowed on their outside patio. It was nice to have some live music as well, I believe it is every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The cute little pond out back with all its turtles and ducks gives you a real lowcountry vibe. Plenty of street parking (free). Attire is super casual. Kid friendly and group friendly as well. Be sure to make reservations on weekends, especially Monday as it is half off.

The food is decent bar food but it's crowded and the service is atrocious. Waitress was nowhere to be found the entire time. I was disgusted after witnessing the sushi chef picking his nose, eating and licking his fingers, wearing no gloves, whilst making sushi orders OUT IN THE OPEN. Absolutely vile and overrated for sure.

Sushi is pretty solid for the Low Country. Pricing is fair and if you don't mind a bar vibe, atmosphere is pretty good. Usually very busy during half off night, but they manage. Great Job!

I ordered to go on my lunch break and got charged $21.00 for a lunch portion chicken hibachi dinner when online it said $11.00. They are charging a $2.50 to go fee and the portion is extremely small for the price. I won't order from here again. Food is good, just not worth the price in my opinion.

We came here on a Wednesday for lunch, BOGO half off sushi rolls! We did have to ask for this after getting our check and seeing they were full price, but they fixed it quickly for us. We got edamame to start, it was quite a small serving compared to what we're used to at other sushi places for the price, but it was tasty. There was plenty of staff and they were all very nice. Sushi rolls were made to order and VERY tasty. I made a list of the rolls I wanted to try for next time!

Monday night half off sushi is a MUST!! Been coming here for so long. The staff is amazing! Live music too! Nevertheless the sushi is fantastic and always a hit!! Ask for walker as your server....what a gentleman.

Really enjoyed this place for a low key date night. We sat on the heated back patio, where it was much quieter. I was slightly cold, but that's nothing new! My husband was fine. They had two great Mocktail options, an NA beer, and made me a nice virgin margarita. I appreciated the salted rim! Our waitress was very nice, as was the hostess who sat us. We ordered four rolls and each had a drink, and the bill was less than $60!! Apparently Thursdays are "buy one get one 50% off," so our rolls were very affordable. Surprisingly, mt favorite roll was the Thai Chicken. It was so flavorful!!

Really good sushi, variety that will appease all, as well as tv environment casual and comfortable. Provides NFL Sunday ticket, baseball during season and outdoor patio seating.

You know when you're on a date and the food is like so amazing you do your best not to stuff your face because you want to look polite and not like a water Buffalo? I felt like this a little bit and that's a compliment. - I highly recommend the locals tower and the 'Japanese' mozzarella sticks 5/5 - I also enjoyed the ninja roll - brought my kids they had high chairs and cheeseburgers (also very good.) - sorry no pictures too yummy - bar type vibe so I felt a little more casual than a typical sushi place I might not bring my kids to.

I can only speak as a one-time customer, but the sushi was super fresh, quality ingredients, and tasty!!!! My girlfriends all enjoyed their meals as well! Vibe is fun, LOUD, and just a good hang. Live music the night we went!! Definitely will go back!

Mondays are the best day to experience Music and buy 1 get 1. Sushi is sole of the best in the Low Country.

This restaurant has dine in, outdoor dining and take out. The sushi is delicious and so fresh! Their drink menu is extensive! I would love to go at least once a week! You must try it!! Jan H

Love this place! Everybody raves about the sushi but I rave about the amazing service and the tacos. OMG go try the tacos and jalapeños margarita. Always pleased and never disappointing.

Where els can you get a quality maki roll for 7$ and or chips and queso on a Wednesday night listening to a band play outside. Best of both worlds here, haven't had anything that I haven't liked yet.

I'd only go on Monday night for the 1/2 price deal and wanted basic general sushi. They do stuff a lot of their rolls with the fake Krab and they don't have any memorable rolls IMO. I had the local, Tobago, and competition roll now called IOP. Just moved here from Atlanta and we'll continue to hunt for one that beats our old sushi joint, Kuroshio, that had bigger rolls with tons of fresh fish on top and throughout while still being under $20 a roll.

Now this place is authentic. Great burgers and sushi is off the chain good! The edamame with Thai chili is the best I've ever had. Cold beer and super nice staff. Highly recommend.

Came for sushi and overall a pleasant experience. Ordered the EBI EBI roll, King roll, and Tobago roll. Tobago was my favorite of the 3 and EBI EBI was really tasty. The King roll was a disappointment. The most expensive and a signature roll but did not taste it. The deep fried part of it was soggy and ruined the roll.

I've been coming to this restaurant for years, even before they had outdoor seating. It used to be a top secret sushi place but is now a favorite for locals (understandably). It was cold out but we sat outside (well, it was an outside area that was enclosed) and kept warm by some great heaters. There was a live band that played a lot of old easy-listening music and we enjoyed them. The food was great. We only ordered sushi, like we do most of the time. I tried a new roll this time (IOP) and I loved it. We went on a Monday night about 5:30 and had to wait about 45 minutes, which isn't bad on 1/2 price sushi night. The food was well worth the wait. Our server wasn't real good about refilling our drinks but he was busy, so I won't take any points off. Anyone who has waited tables, knows how easy it is to oversee something like that on a very busy night. The vibe was cool, the food super delicious, the staff was courteous and the price was right! What more do you want?

I've been coming to Locals Sushi for years and always make an effort to go when I'm in Charleston. They have some of the best sushi I've ever had and never been disappointed! I love the atmosphere. It's more laid back than a traditional sushi restaurant as it almost reminds me of a sports bar feel.
