Locals Sushi & Sports Pub - West Ashley

When Locals was suggested, I was taken aback at the idea of a sushi sports pub. However, it works!y date and I sat outside and enjoyed sports while eating the best sushi and seaweed salad. My date enjoyed a very large sake and I appreciated the non alcoholic options. The bartender was very polite and knowledgeable. I’m looking forward to trying it again

We came here for what was supposed to be a victory sushi meal after escaping an escape room nearby — sort of our little celebration dinner. We did a quick search for sushi spots and this one came up, but when we arrived we were surprised to find it was more of a sports pub than a sushi restaurant. That’s on us for not checking more carefully, but once we were there, we decided to stay and try the food. Looking at the menu, we skipped the sushi entirely (we just couldn’t bring ourselves to take the risk in a bar setting) and went with pub food — a burger (ordered medium-well) with tater tots and chicken tenders with fries. Unfortunately, this is where the experience really went downhill. The burger came out very well done, completely dry, and had no seasoning whatsoever. The tater tots were greasy, under-seasoned, and unappetizing. The chicken tenders were bland and didn’t have any flavor to them, which made the overcooked fries even more disappointing. We usually rate and discuss our food like amateur critics while eating, and we both agreed this meal was actually worse than Wendy’s pre-COVID quality — and that says a lot. The only positive here was the service. Our waitress was quick and friendly, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the food quality just didn’t match the price point. We ended up spending more money here for a disappointing pub meal than we did at Church and Union, which was a far superior experience. Overall, this was a miss for us. Can’t speak for the sushi since we didn’t try it, but based on what we did eat, we would not come back.

Everyone and everything was awesome. Food was amazing, we got sushi, burgers and fries, and mozzarella sticks. A specialty sushi roll and two alcohol beverages for under $35. Amazing food for a good price. Service was above and beyond. I believe we had Connor as our waiter, and Phil was the manager. Didn’t get the bartenders name but all around amazing. Couldn’t think of a a complaint if I tried

Very clean and cool on a hot summer day. Our server was Cotton and he was so kind. I had the mango roll and pepper tuna both of which I really enjoyed and would get again. I am excited to watch a sports match here and try some of their other unique items.

Came in last night (11/21/2025) after my kids’ music performance, and the experience was amazing. The sushi was phenomenal, and my kids really enjoyed their meals. The band playing at the restaurant was great and added to the atmosphere. Our server, Madalyn, was wonderful—she made us feel comfortable right away, explained the menu clearly, helped us choose confidently, and even gave us a few laughs. Overall, a fantastic visit. Easy 10/10. Highly recommend!

We've been coming to the Locals West Ashley location for a few years. My absolute favorite dish is the Tuna Bites with the rice crostini and I can't seem to order anything else off the menu. The sushi here IMO is the best in Charleston. Restaurant is consistently great in everything. Kat has waited on us a few times now and she has always been welcoming and accommodating - it's gotten to the point where she recognizes us when we arrive. Locals is a befitting name for the place after an experience like that..

Seats were immediately available and service was quick. Waitress was busy but attentive and responsive. Food was tremendous and more than I expected for the price. Definitely recommend! Will go back.

Just tried this Locals location out yesterday with my fiance for the first time! We love the Mount Pleasant location, and really loved the chill vibe in West Ashley. Service was very chill. The tuna bites and crispy crab wontons were excellent starters- very filling! We ordered the Mount Pleasant roll and the Crazy Boy roll and we were big fans of both. Margaritas were great. Would definitely come back again soon!

Despite their website saying they have trivia ... they do not, but what they lack in trivia they make up for in great specials and a good place to watch football. Big fan of half priced apps for happy hour and half priced sushi night. If you haven't been to locals, it's a staple. If you get one app, let it be the locals tower... so much seafood and flavor in one dish.

I am so surprised that it took me so long to come here. Honestly, I think I was mourning the loss of Manny's. I liked that place a lot. But this place is really good too. It's a good replacement restaurant. It's like Asian fusion, I guess is what they call it. We were sat at a small table that fits two people. It was enough room for us. I noticed there was a whole other room attached for more seating. They also have a bar you can sit at. I ordered hibachi. The server convinced me to try the chimichurri on my steak. I can't complain, it was definitely good. I had never had hibachi like this before. The seasoning was perfect. It was covered in green stuff but it sure did taste good. It came with rice and vegetables, squash, zucchini, and broccoli. It also came with white sauce, which I naturally poured all over my fried rice. My boyfriend got sushi. I didn't try any but it looked appealing. It was served in a beautiful way, very picture perfect. I didn't take pictures, but he did. He ordered one roll, and ended up ordering a second because they were buy one, get one half off because it was Thursday. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal. I liked the vibe. The ceiling is a little weird, industrial looking with spray insulation everywhere, but hey, I think that might be trending. There was a sushi bar as well as the alcoholic beverage bar. My hibachi was cooked in the back kitchen. Even without the chefs entertaining me by cooking in front of me, it was still really enjoyable. I'll definitely be back.

Amazing place to order lunch if you're in the area. Even doing a delivery order it was fast and sushi came fresh. The Spicy Tuna on crispy rice is a huge portion and the tuna is a great quality. The veggie roll is delicious and has great crunch to it. You can tell the staff is thoughtful with how everything was presented and packed. Will continue to order from here when at the office and will check out their happy hour soon this place looks so cute!

The West Ashley is by far our favorite location with the most consistently delicious food. Love the hipster vibe! Locals has everything from burgers to sushi to hibachi. We absolutely love half price sushi on Tuesdays. It's always jam packed, so get there early. The hibachi is my second favorite. Sadly, prices have gone up recently due to inflation.

This was our third time giving this location a shot - when we lived in Mt. Pleasant, we loved the food and service at that location. We won't be returning to this location however. Each time we've visited the sushi and other food has been sub par to say the least and tonight it was downright bad. The service wasn't great even though they weren't busy and had ample staff around - when we sent an item back due to be warm on the inside (of a sushi roll), waiter told us they hadn't prepared it in a sarcastic way.

This place is amazing. From burgers to sushi. Full bar a good local beers on tap. Service was great. Food was amazing. I had the goat burger was great as well as the asparagus bites were off the charts. The GM came and talked to us as well. This is a must go to spot. A few games in the back kids are welcome as well.

This has become my go to place for happy hour and pretty much any hour when I'm seeking sushi burgers wings and a good blue cheese wedge.

The restaurant/bar is definitely a place to go with friends, it's quite loud and slightly overwhelming. They're Tuesday 1/2 off sushi is a great deal, I never paid so little for this quality of sushi. Our waitress was quick and got our drinks to us quickly. It didn't take long for our food to come either. The fish was fresh, their yellow tail was good and they're white albacore tuna was delicious. The only thing they could improve on was the cook of their rice a little over cooked, and texture left some to be desired, but would definitely go again!

First time here, and we're glad we gave it a try. I thought sushi and sports sounded like a weird combo, but they make it work! Plenty of TVs for the sports enthusiasts and a definite bar feel. We started with the filet wrapped asparagus, and it was amazing. I loved the rare filet, the asparagus had the right cook on it, and it's topped with avocado, jalapeño and spicy mayo sauce. We had two sushi rolls - a classic spicy tuna and a fancy roll called the firecracker. The fish was fresh and delicious. I thought the firecracker roll had too much tempura, but it was still tasty. Service was okay. Our table was tiny and when she brought the sushi out, she didn't bus our app platter, but we made it work. It wasn't bad service, just not great. That's the world we live in now, and I'm glad they have people willing to work at all since it's hard for so many. We will be back to try more!

Sad to say this Locals doesn't compare to the mount pleasant location. I came on a Tuesday around 5:30 for half price night. I was seated fairly quickly and my server brought me water out. However, it was hard to get her over to us to order, despite them not being very busy compared to mount pleasant on half price night. The pretzel was fantastic and served hot and came out quickly. When we ordered the sushi, it took over an hour to come out (4 rolls) and the shrimp tempura was COLD. It must have been sitting out a while before they brought them to us because I've never had that experience at locals in mount pleasant. Maybe they were short staffed in the kitchen or our server forgot to pick up our order, but I was very disappointed. The food quality, speed, and service at mount pleasant is truly a step above and I'll be continuing to go back to that location instead.

Was the first customer of the day on a Sunday. Looks like nothing had been cleaned from the night before. Boyfriend had hair in his food and after I ate through half my sushi roll I found one too. Flys are surrounding the draft beer area of the bar. Never coming back here.

Stopped in here for a few pints and sushi. They have a good selection of locally crafted beer and sushi rolls. Good price for the quality sushi that is offered. They have a loft with arcade games but the focus of my visit was the food and drink.

I've been to Locals in Mt P probably a hundred times or more, but I just went to the West Ashley location just recently. While it wasn't a bad experience, I have to say it wasn't up to the standard I was used to. Everything seemed a stop down. It needs an upgrade inside and the booths were peeling so bad and it looked like there was a dark side of the dining room with stacked tables not being used. The service was sporadic and we didn't get our sushi roll that we asked for as an app until long after our dinner came out. I even felt like the food was just okay. Maybe they were having an off night, but I think I'll stick with my tried and true location in Mt P.

Not like any other place that you go to get sushi with your friends. They have your basic rolls, but they also have so many great sushi rolls not like anything you've ever seen anywhere else. Our favorites: Locals Lovers, Mount Pleasant, Big Kahuna, and Torched Salmon. Tuesday nights are half off sushi and we tried to come with a group of 7 girls and the service was quite slow, but all of our orders were correct and they didn't even auction them off, which is very impressive. There was even live music inside, but you can't overlook the outside bar in their parking lot! Such a good spot with a little something for everyone. NOT JUST A SUSHI PLACE!

Great food, solid portions, and a good drink menu and the service was pleasant knowledgeable about the menu, and up beat. Overall a very nice mid-range casual dining experience. Pricing was comparable to other local sushi establishments.

The food was delicious but I do think it's overpriced unfortunately. I'll most likely come back during happy hour for their specials! But the fish was on point and they've got some creative rolls. I was surprised at the amount of rolls that contain cream cheese! Not sure if this is a Charleston thing but couldn't help to notice.

Locals staff is always friendly and accommodating. Their food is amazing and I've never had a bad thing on their menu. The outside bar is nice when you're with some friends trying to let loose and the inside is great for a date night. My favorites are the Charleston, Mt. Pleasant Roll and the Carolina roll.

I've eaten a Local's and handful of times and consistently it has just been "ok;" not bad, but not somewhere I'd take a friend or crave. Local's has several Americanized sushi options, some of which are tasty, but overall just okay. I typically get the Carolina Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, or Nigiri. This time, we ordered edamame, nigiri, and two rolls. My roll was pretty good and my husband was satisfied with his. Unlike more traditional places, these sushi rolls have a lot of sauces...taking down the health factor. I do recognize that this is a sports bar and sushi place, so that should be factored in. Service is not super attentive, but again, it's a sports pub/sushi place. When I got my food, I noticed a long hair in my sushi and because there was only one server, I sat there forever before telling her of the incident. At that point I was done. Additionally, our edamame was literally beans smothered in salt. Like so much salt it looked like a snow covered mountain. This isn't a huge deal, but it was freezing in there and we also had to kill some sort of wasp that was flying around on the window near us.

Locals Sushi West Ashley is a great spot for 50% off rolls on Tuesdays. It gets really busy if you arrive after 5:30 pm but if you can make it before then it's definitely worth a visit! The have a wide variety of options available and the food is all relatively good.

We had lunch at Locals on a Friday and it was awesome! I've driven past their different locations a few times, and finally had a chance to stop for lunch. The vibe is casual but fun, totally fine for sandals and jeans, or date night. We sat at the bar, but there were families and a bachelorette party at the tables! My favorite roll was the Big Kahuna, but really - everything was fantastic. The shrimp and calamari appetizer was delicious too, I'm not a huge sauce person, but I could have put that stuff on everything!! Highly recommend for a quick and delicious sushi lunch. Great sandwich options for non-sushi lovers too.

Me and my husband love this place!!! All the rolls are amazing. Words can't explain how amazing the flavors are. The service is great and the live music makes for a fun environment!!

The food and service was amazing! Haley and Gabbie are my favorite bartenders. And Haddy is the best server ever. 10/10 the sushi guys roll so fast. And the wings are huge. Go there if you have the munchies their food is bomb!

Stopped in here before Xmas while visiting family. Odd combination of a sports bar with bar food as well as a sushi bar. I had some Tasty sashimi. Great service. Will be back.

Locals is one of my favorite places for sushi! They have amazing and unique flavor combinations as well as tacos. I love sushi so I always enjoy Eder rolls. The award winners are amazing! They have half price sushi nights which are slammed! The bar outside is lots of fun too.

Do not go here. Save your time and money. We've heard great things about locals. It was our first time going. The rolls were mostly mushy rice. Disgusting. Couldn't even finish the rolls. And the the waitress who was already subpar was super rude when we expressed our disappointment.

This was a great pick for lunch. I ordered sushi, which was very good. This is a neat fusion restaurant with sushi and also a bar menu. Moderate pricing and good service.

Check out my posted picture, it say it all. In my opinion this is the best place for sushi in Charleston. Tuesday nights are 1/2 price sushi along with happy hour; the prices at this place can't be beat. The sushi is always fresh and tasty. They have a large selection of rolls and you will have a hard time deciding which ones to order. We've never had a bad roll. The servers are always friendly and on point. If you like sushi don't hesitate to give Locals a shot, you won't be disappointed.

Went there for my mothers birthday. We planned on people dropping in and out and having a few drinks/apps. I recalled the bar area being open for people to come and stand and order drinks? Apparently that's not the case. Alexis, the manager, was extremely rude and kicked us out. She said locals doesn't accommodate parties of 9 or more. I explained that some of us were just there for drinks and wouldn't even be ordering food. She said that that was still unacceptable and told the bartenders not to serve us if we walked up. (We tried) Definitely wouldn't recommend for parties. Or for people that just don't wanna be treated like crap for Showing up to eat. Feel bad for our waitress though. She would have made at least $100 on our table - And we're really easy going people.

Everything was excellent. We sat at the outside bar and had Gabby and Haley serving us. They were both very attentive and even remembered our drink order from the last time we visited. On top of the service, the food was 10 out of 10! Best sushi in the Charleston area!

Hands down the best sushi in Charleston, I've never had a roll I didn't like. The sushi variety is great and the service at the West Ashley location is fantastic. They have live music inside and a great patio area outside so you can enjoy the outdoor seating all year long! My favorite sushi rolls are the Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, & the Carolina Roll - the Carolina being my top choice, and featured in the middle of the photo.

Not a fan. The rice for the rolls was so overcooked it was almost like paste. The burger was so greasy that the bottom bun was soaked through (I'm all about fat = flavor but this was extreme), and the honey jalapeño fried chicken sandwich while juicy, had zero jalapeño flavor/heat. All that said, the French fries were delicious () but we won't be back.

Local's is one of my favorite date nights! my girlfriend and I eat here weekly. they have great happy hour deals and half price on Tuesdays. The food and drinks are great!

First time here! My daughter told us about Tuesday half price sushi, so we thought we would give it a try. So glad we did .... The sushi was fresh and very good. I also had midnight mule which was awesome! The service was great too! I think we will be back next Tuesday!

This place was mid and I've never had a restaurant charge me for so many service fees. They were going to charge me an extra $2 as a Togo tax so I had to order my one roll for here and then just put it in a box to save the Togo tax. So my $14 dollar roll was actually $18 plus a tip. I thought this was a sushi restaurant not a phone plan could of fooled me with all of these hidden fees.

Went here for dinner last week while I was in Charleston. I've got to say, it was packed and felt a bit unsafe during COVID. People who were waiting were standing around and the tables were so close together. Coming from Maryland, I was just a bit uncomfortable. The food, however was great! I got 4 different tacos and a sparkly fall drink! It was yummy! And our waitress was pretty good as well. It was super busy, so I can't blame her if service wasn't especially fast. I would definitely come back next time I'm in town, especially for the Hibachi Tacos!

Terrible wasabi--the neon colored stuff that is super soft. There was a lot of rice in the nigiri and the cuts of fish were thinner than what you get at other sushi spots (Fuji Sushi, Blu Oyster, 167 Sushi Bar, Aji).

My favorite sushi in Charleston! The presentation is always beautiful and it never disappoints. (The West Ashley location is actually better quality than the Mount Pleasant one)

Our entire reason for visiting Charleston was to visit Locals and all because of an Instagram post! The power of social media can really have you exploring new locations and trying new things. If my pictures don't get you interested, then visit their Instagram page because the food looks so very delicious! Lets talk about the staff for a little bit; because I was so excited they were just as excited for me to try their sushi. The hostess even gave several recommendations for sushi rolls she enjoys and think are worth trying. The menu has just enough options so you don't get too overwhelmed, but reading the descriptions will have you wanted to order one of everything LOL! I had the Crazy salmon, Crunchy salmon, West Ashley roll, and Spicy Salmon roll (it was a salmon night for me)! All of the rolls were amazing, but the West Ashley was definitely a top recommendation.... sooooo good! I'm going to recommend Locals West Ashely to all sushi lovers. Even if you aren't a sushi lover, they them out and I'm sure you'll become a sushi lover because they are just amazing!

Love Love Love this place! Every item we order was "OMG Delious!" First when you arrive the staff (Hadley) welcomes you with a wonderfully smile and and great conversation. She's AMAZING so tip her well .........but all of her recommendations was on freaking point. I've never been to a sushi place that adds a modern spin and STILL send your taste buds to the dance floor! We had to do a double take of the Spicy Tuna bites!

My family and I have been enjoying locals for a few years now. They never disappoint and the sushi is always amazingly flavorful and fresh. On our most recent trip we sampled 4 different rolls. The SC Crunch, The Samurai, Local Lovers, and California roll. All of them had unique flavors. They have many options and their burger was juicy and enjoyable for our son as well. If you're wondering whether to give this spot a try, do it!

Was recommended this place from a local friend and loved the environment and the staff! Our bartender, Nick, was super friendly and helpful. The sushi was also amazing! Highly recommend if you're visiting!

Great variety of food and drinks. I sat at the bar and Nick and drank the Pain Reliever. He was super friendly. For dinner I had some delicious Firecracker rolls, shrimp wontons, and seaweed salad. Me and my friend had a great time chatting and it was a great atmosphere!

Service was great, terrible food. All of the proteins are cooked in the same grease/on the same grill, so if you have any allergies don't come here. Worst quality food of my life honestly something needs to change. Vibe is also weird.

10/10 recommend!! The wedge salad is enough for 3 people! My Gma and I shared it and still had leftover to take home. We had the firecracker roll to share and it was so delish. We will definitely be back!

Locals is the spot to be a on Tuesday! Half price sushi all day. Happy hour is 4-7 with various discounts on drinks and nigiri. We had loaded Pots for an appetizer which was delicious! I had the Spicy Tatiki Roll and the Big Kahuna. Both were very good flavor and a big portions. My wife got some nigiri and it tasted fresh!

I haven't been to Charleston in about 2 years, so of course I wanted to try a new restaurant in my old stomping grounds. A friend recommended Locals. Such a great recommendation because if you're a sushi lover, taco lover, or all around bar food lover, THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU! I tried the lemon pepper wings, 2012 competition sushi roll, and Korean bbq taco. So good! If you're in the area, please go!
