The Key Decision in Tuscany

"Locanda al Colle is little more than a restored farmhouse in a village in coastal Tuscany, a short distance from Pisa and Lucca, whose nine rooms look out over forested hillsides through huge picture windows — but despite the lack of big-resort bells and whistles, you’d be hard pressed to catch guests wishing for much more than this." - The MICHELIN Guide

Ten Authentic Tuscan Farmhouse Hotels

"Not only are the Italians experts at living the good life, they’re also quite well versed in extracting maximum luxury from relatively humble means. The Locanda is the perfect combination of beautiful, relaxing, low-key, luxury in a welcoming way. I was planning a trip for myself and two other couples and Ricardo and his staff were so helpful and so responsive all along the way. The food was the best we had in Italy. The grounds are quiet and perfectly maintained with lovely vistas everywhere. The rooms are comfortable and have everything you need for your stay. I don't think I have ever stayed in a hotel that has combined such a friendly and low key atmosphere with the luxury and service offered. It was perfection. It was our first visit but many are returning guests and it is easy to see why.

If there is such a place as the perfect place to stay then this is it! I have travelled the world extensively, with a 40 year career in the travel industry, and I would say this is my favourite hotel of all time!! From the stunning location in the depths of the Tuscan countryside surrounded by olive trees, through to the way in which it has been tastefully decorated with real flair and style, to the amazing team and hospitality, where nothing is too much trouble and you are made to feel like a special guest! We stayed for a week and had just the best holiday! The arrangement to have your own private spot on the nearby beach with your own changing room and private cabana was the final icing on the cake. We will be back! A huge thank you to our host Riccardo, who has created a work of art, and his amazing team. Nigel & Sarah David England

Words cannot fully capture how incredible our stay was at Locanda. From the moment we booked our stay, to the moment we checked out, Riccardo and his staff made our entire stay seamless. We stayed at Locanda at the start of our honeymoon because we were looking for a place that provided pure relaxation and an oasis in the hills of Tuscany. Locanda al Colle is everything we wanted and MORE! Riccardo and his staff were extremely accommodating from the moment we booked our stay. We were able to seamlessly reserve a cooking class with their wonderful chef Carlo, a private wine tour, and massages in our room. Speaking of chef Carlo, we cannot stop raving (and thinking every day) about the FOOD! Our eternal compliments to the chef. We had breakfast and dinner every day at Locanda and they were some of the best meals we’ve ever had. We also loved the option of having fresh tea or an espresso and the daily cake/pastry at our disposable for midday “pick-me-up.” ||||The amenities and personal touches at Locanda overall were top notch, and further made our entire stay feel right at home. We spent a lot of time lounging by their heated pool and enjoying the pure serenity of the surrounding environment which was wonderful. Though we visited many other beautiful places in Italy, we always missed Locanda because of how quaint and home-like it felt. We truly cannot thank Riccardo, Paula, Carlo, and the entire staff at Locanda for making our trip a true “once in a lifetime” experience, and we cannot wait to come back! :) ||

We had 3 nights in June and had a truly wonderful time. The food was wonderful, the atmosphere was really lovely but Riccardo and the team were truly outstanding and made out stay so memorable. Loved the extra touches like the Beach club and the access to kitchen during the day, it had a homely feel to it!

We have just returned from ten fantastic days in Tuscany / Umbria, but the absolute highlight was our stay at Locanda Al Colle. The atmosphere created by Riccardo & his team is just sublime, with the decor, the food, the gardens, the beach club & the outstanding staff - all combine to make a truly wonderful experience for guests. You leave feeling you've been part of something very special! Thank you Riccardo & we hope to see you again soon!

Beautiful, secluded location in rural Tuscany close to Lucca and the Mediterranean. Riccardo and his staff made us feel welcome, ‘at home’ and couldn’t have been kinder or more attentive. Food is very good and varied, rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean and quiet - the only disappointment was having to leave!.

My most excellent German friend and former 8 year pdx next-door neighbor Heidi and I spent 6 days here in October 2022. Everything about our stay there was extraordinary. The food by Gian Luca was amazing. We lived for everyday's breakfast and dinner. Really unbelievable, and I live in Portland, OR, a food mecca of sorts. Luckily Heidi was game to split each evening's dinner entrees. The setting is beautiful, as are the art and books on-site. We went on many day trips, Lucca, Viareggio and most particularly Pietrasanta, which we really loved. It was my dream vacation. We hope to return and bring others.

Yelp
By far the best experience ever! We stayed in the Deluxe Aurora room, the view was spectacular. Every morning we enjoyed fresh squeeze orange juice, delicious coffee, pastries and the company of the best Chef ever, Gian Luca! We enjoyed the heated pool and our walks on the streets of Pietrasanta. We were able to drive and have day trips to Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Carrara, Porto Venere, and Parma. Look forward to visiting again!
