Google
They did a great job. The view was fantastic, right next to the locks, you can’t beat the location. My salad, soup, and crab-stuffed shrimp were all really good. Melissa, our server, was friendly and did a fantastic job. For a small town, this place is a real gem.

My girlfriend and I were starving when we got back from an afternoon in the Canadian Soo, and while looking up local eateries that were open on Labor Day, we came upon Lockview Restaurant. Once we saw they had pasties on their menu, we were sold! The pasties were delicious with gravy, and the onion rings were beyond amazing! The interior decor was wonderful with all the nautical themes, and the view of the ships passing through the locks was definitely the cherry on top! We'll definitely be back!

Google
Stopped in for lunch after visiting the Locks and shops. Was busy but didn't have to wait long for a table. Loved the menu selection and the story. Good food fast and hot. Upstairs was closed unfortunately, would have liked to see the view.

Google
I was very excited about this place because I love seafood. The first time we went the wait was too long, about an hour, that we had to return next day. We waited for about 15 minutes to get seated. The food was bland. I got whitefish and my husband steak. The atmosphere wasn't anything special. Waiters were OK. I was expecting a little more. The location is perfect on the main street in town.

Google
10/10 for vegetarians, despite the extensive fish menu. I was hesitant but was pleasantly surprised. The baked potato: I was able to have it loaded with mushrooms! The rice was great, but soft. I don’t mind that. The “today’s vegetables” were terrific! Honestly so good. The service and staff and kind. Everyone’s meals on the menu were on point and on time. Would go again in a heartbeat

Google
We had a great meal at the Lockview. We weren’t given the option to sit upstairs, but if given the option, I would recommend it as it’s a bit more updated, nicer atmosphere and better view. Neither level have that great of a view of the ships / locks…. Views are fairly obstructed. But the food and service was good, and I would recommend it. Fresh fish caught locally.

Google
Recently stopped here with my wife for dinner. We were on our 30th Anniversary road trip. The food & atmosphere were amazing!! Great service with an amazing view of the Soo Locks. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in town or traveling through. We will definitely be back. Thank you for an amazing experience!!

Google
Really like this place. Fresh fish caught by locals, can't get better than that. Friendly and attentive wait staff. Atmosphere is nice especially sitting upstairs watching ships go thru the locks. Only negative is the table and chairs setup - my mother had the same set in 1960.

Yelp
We got here toward the end of their night on a weeknight. My husband started with a vodka martini--which was done well. Food was very good. I tried the fried whitefish. I don't recall what my husband had. The atmosphere's warm and rustic with knotty pine paneling. A large dining room is in the front with picture windows around all 3 sides. You can see the locks from the front room. We sat in the back room and it has more knotty pine paneling and subdued lighting.

Yelp
I will start by saying I don't like giving bad reviews because it's hard on businesses, which are the things that keep a city going strong. I decided to give this restaurant a second chance after going there for Pech, which was so greasy that oil dripped from the perch. I showed it to our server, who asked me if I would like to have them remake it. I declined, seeing as if it would be cooked in the same oil. I did not eat the perch; I just ate dinner salad. The server saw that I didn't eat the perch and offered to take my coffee off the bill--really, the coffee! So I paid for the perch dinner that I didn't eat and it was pricey. After a year or so, we decided to try this restaurant again. In the waiting area to be seated, there's a sign posted that says they have the right not to serve rude customers. Now, there is Customer Service 101. The hostess seemed irritated and was not very nice. We were told that our wait would be about 20 minutes. As we are sitting in the waiting area waiting to be seated a couple of two came in (we were a party four) and they sat them. Not a big deal maybe they just had a table for two open. A few minutes later, a party of six came in and they sat them. At that point, we got up and left.

Yelp
I regret forgetting to take pictures of our food! We ordered the fried walleye meal, the cajun whitefish meal, and the chowder. The whitefish chowder was tasty but had ham in it which overpowered the flavor of the fish. The walleye and whitefish served with the meal were so large. The breading was delicious and crispy. The restaurant has a view adjacent to the lock but definitely not of the lock itself, so the view is beautiful but don't expect to be looking right down on the lock. Service was friendly, helpful, and fast!

Yelp
Lock View Restaurant offers a unique dining experience with its charming nautical-themed decor and live views of the locks through the windows, as well as a live cam feed for an even closer look. The restaurant spans two stories, providing plenty of seating options with a fun, casual atmosphere. The service is friendly, and while it's not certain if they have an official policy, we did notice a service dog at a nearby table, which is something to keep in mind for those with pets. The highlight of the meal was the whitefish chowder--absolutely to die for! It's clearly a local favorite and a must-try if you're in the area. Overall, Lock View is a great spot for a laid-back meal with an unbeatable view of the locks.

Yelp
This is the kind of place I look for when traveling: rich in history, prime location, filled with locals, homey food, and reasonably priced. Fish chowder was the best thing I ever ate! Rich, creamy, smoky, and hot! Nice they let you sub for fries as a side. White fish sandwich was cooked perfectly, hot and crispy. Try to get a window seat to check out the lock and people watch.

Yelp
We've eaten here twice now and find it's pretty consistent with affordable pricing. With a great view of the Soo Locks, this place is always bumping. While you can always seem to get a table, it's worth noting that it can take a bit to get service. This last visit he had the eggs Benedict special which he noted was "very citrusy" and upon trying my French toast, I noticed that the flavor was heavy in vanilla. While neither were bad, it was definitely noticeable that the cook had a heavy hand. I can't say we've had any complaints, just make sure you're not looking for a quiet place when you come and that you're okay with waiting a bit. It's a nice spot for breakfast if perusing downtown!

Yelp
Lock view is a must try if you are visiting the Soo Locks. It's a short walk from the locks or the other shops. There should be plenty of street parking. This facility is a bit dated in decor. It is clean and welcoming. Everyone was very friendly. Our waitress was outstanding and made us feel like we were regulars. The menu is pretty large so you can always find something. We tried the walleye and white fish baskets. The French fries were nice and crispy without being to greasy. The white fish had a rather thick breading they was a bit greasy. The white fish piece was large and meaty. The fish was fresh tasting and delicious. The tarter sauce was heavy on the Mayo side. It didn't have much relish or sweetness to pull you in. The Cole slaw had a slight horseradish bit but otherwise was very heavy on the Mayo.

Yelp
We have been here twice in less than 24 hours. For dinner we both chose a walleye dinner. There are 3 different walleye meals and the same or more of whitefish. Plenty of delicious choices. Beware there are two steps to get inside. If mobility is an issue you might have trouble. We came back for breakfast as well, since the hotel had some crap coffee. This places coffee is not that great either, but the food is great. Today's special was Eggs Benedict. The service is pretty good too.

Yelp
Old cafe style restaurant right across from the locks. We parked on the street with no issues. You can park on either side of the street and I think they have parking in the back. We were seated right away and had great service. My wife had a shrimp basket and I had pan fried whitefish. Both dinners the seafood was excellent and the rest was ok. My fish was very large and I couldn't finish it. Highly recommend this place for their seafood.

Yelp
Ducked in for dinner and what a serendipitous choice! Food was delicious, lots of local favorites on the menu including clams, perch, and whitefish. Great view upstairs. Service was impeccable, fast, attentive, and friendly. Worth the stop!
google avatar

Yelp
There was a reason there was 1/2 hour wait ... it was worth it. The fish chowder was great. The fish tacos and wrap were good. I'd get them again, but there's other stuff on the menu I'd like to try as well.
google avatar

Bob L.

Yelp
Got a lovely window table right away on the second floor looking at the locks. We were excited. No server greeted us. I asked the server at the next table who was supposed to have our table and she said our server had a large table she was working with. Watched the folks next to us get drinks and food right away...while we lingered. Service was poor. This is a picture of the "lightly battered" perch...way too much coating.
google avatar

Sandra T.

Yelp
The food was absolutely perfect! I had fish tacos with a Bloody Mary and friends had the white fish basket. Food was fresh, hot and the waitress was lovely. The view of the street from the restaurant is great; a nice place to eat at people watch.
google avatar

Scott W.

Yelp
Right across from Soo Locks entrance, had the white fish and it was delicious as usual.
google avatar

Allyson M.

Yelp
Honestly has the best whitefish dinner in town. It is great to bring relatives who aren't familiar with the area near the locks. Very helpful staff and friendly atmosphere.
google avatar

Madison O.

Yelp
It was very busy in there but the staff was still friendly and waited on us well. The food came out quick and you could tell that it was all fresh. The breading on the shrimp wasn't heavy and was nice and crispy. Same goes for the chicken tenders. The fries were okay, nothing special. You got a lot of food for the price too. Overall, it's a restaurant I would visit again.

Dan M.

Yelp
Fun spot right across from the locks. Solid breakfast menu with lots of options and good sides.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
Great walleye! Super fresh! Incredible service & a very friendly vibe! This IS the place to go to for fresh lake fish!
google avatar

Brad G.

Yelp
Place is kind of a retro diner style but is a restaurant. If you can get seated upstairs there is a great view of the locks. I got the Broiled whitefish with Sirloin and baked potato. The fish was good but the steak was Very tough. I think I would stick with the fish plates here. Our server was friendly but they were short staffed when we went, so she was doing the best that she could but always had a smile.
google avatar

Donald A.

Yelp
Awesome whitefish chowder and pan seared fillet. Will definitely return on next visit to The Soo!
google avatar

Janet G.

Yelp
Ordered whitefish w a baked potato and salad. The fish was huge and perfectly pan fried. watched a few freighters from across to Locks while eating. Good food; friendly staff. Will go back

David F.

Yelp
The chowder was good, but the turkey sandwich was just god awful. I usually can eat anything , but I couldn't finish it. The whole thing tasted like a TV dinner.

Howard A.

Yelp
Good food, nice menu choices and great service. Located across the street from the lock.
google avatar

Yelp
While not the most external attractive of locales, the interior is a mix between diner and rustic lake boatman. The service for me was engaging with a staff that knew the menu and what not to order. Steered clear of any hazards the Cajun Walleye Dinner with the Cheesy Poblano Soup was very tasty. Very reasonable in prices, even having a few drinks didn't inflate the bill as is common in some places. A good restaurant and a fine, though rustic, experience. I'd come back.

Ally L.

Yelp
Food is incredible and the service is always fast and pleasant. The crabs legs and shrimp cocktail are definitely top tier. Waitresses were friendly and welcoming. Two level restaurant facing the Locks with a definite ship theme inside.

Amy W.

Yelp
Best seat in town. Excellent view of the locks while dining. Nice menu selection. We had white fish chowder, blackened wall eye and white fish dip.

Marg O.

Yelp
I had the broiled white fish with baked potato and broccoli. I had blueberry pie with ice cream for dessert. It was very tasty!

Harrison O.

Yelp
Great fish, fast service and it's always fun to see the boats go by. An update/repairs in the 2nd floor restrooms would be good but overall a great stop.

Justin P.

Yelp
Great location with even better food! This place has some great food options and the ones we chose were all so tasty! Huge score with the kiddos small steak dinner option! You would think more steak places would have this option...but they just don't! Fantastic service and we were in...full...pleased....out in no time!
google avatar

Megan W.

Yelp
My husband and I were visiting the area and stopped by for lunch. I had a Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was all amazing! Our server was friendly and helpful. The retro vibe inside is really fun! The beer selection has variety and was sufficient.
google avatar

Cam L.

Yelp
Whitefish is great and comes out quickly. Servers are very friendly, reasonable prices. Inside is cozy.
google avatar

Debbie E.

Yelp
A step back in time with vinyl covered furniture...and I did cringe at the paper menus (given the Covid pandemic) and washed my hands as soon as they were collected. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. I had whitefish dinner with a baked potato that was a little overdone, a side dish of friend shrimp (delicious) and a side salad (limp lettuce) My husband enjoyed the king crab legs and whitefish chowder. We had reservations and asked for the upper level so we could keep an eye on the locks for incoming freighters, but was told the upper level was full. This restaurant is on the main drag in town and across the street from the park and locks.
google avatar

Jon W.

Yelp
Cajun Walleye was on point and the best meal I had in the UP. We watched some of the large boats coming through the locks after our meal. No wait and got our food quickly.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
It was a delight eating here. Kinda faux fancy, but I liked it. Food was great. The view is kinda blocked by buildings, but live feed was up and there's lots of light.

Chelsie W.

Yelp
we were so excited to eat hear. we heard nothing but great things, but 730 pm on a Friday night we were told they couldn't take anymore tables, even though they are open until 9. it was super upsetting to all of us who live 6 hours away.
google avatar

Yelp
Well my first time in Sault St. Marie, & my first of many times to come to the Lock View Restaurant. My daughter had the white fish, and my son and I had a burger and fries. We consider ourselves burger kind of sewers, and let me tell you we believe this is the finest burger in the Midwest. It leaves all the rest far behind. My daughters whitefish was fantastic she said, and our server was pleasant and professional. We made sure we reflected that in the gratuity. The place was spotless and uplifting very very cute. We look forward to seeing you all back again there.
google avatar

Sharon E.

Yelp
Fish chowder was thick and flavorful. Both the Michigan Spring and Caesar Salads were good. As a matter of fact we were so happen with our visit traveling north that we stopped for lunch as well on our way home! Fun to watch the boats going thru the locks too although visibility was limited but they also have a tv cam watching!!

Bernard R.

Yelp
Our server Ellie was the best !! Great food and service The whitefish, perch and Long Island were 5 stars Beautiful view!!
google avatar

Yelp
This was a neat little restaurant. I was in town for work. I went on a Sunday evening and sat upstairs near the windows that overlook the locks. After I ordered I read the history of the place on their newspaper style menu. It seems like Lock View has been a SSM staple for a while. I started with the Whitefish Chowder. It's kind of their twist on a NE Clam Chowder. The cup I got was pretty hearty and not much broth. That was kind of nice. For my entree, I got the Lake Superior Whitefish dinner. I got it with lemon pepper seasoning and veggies. It was very good. Not too much food but enough to go home satisfied.

Julie T.

Yelp
In town to do the Soo Locks. Pulled up a couple of choices on Yelp and decided upon Lockview restaurant. Decor is awesome, old-school throwback original café with shipping and sailing theme. Oberon on tap, what more can you say!? I ordered the white fish Reuben which was truly excellent. Soft rye buttered bread, generous with the Swiss cheese slices and cole slaw. Oh and the onion rings are EPIC. Great service, reasonable prices. I would skip the Caesar salad if you're looking for authentic, but then most places now-a-days do a less than mediocre Caesar, unless you're in a big city or very Italian restaurant. Sorry, but tossing in some bland croutons & processed Parmesan cheese with anchovy-less dressing "on the side," does not a Caesar salad make. Go for the amazing fresh caught fish!!
google avatar

Aubrey S.

Yelp
The ultimate Meemaw and Granddad kind of restaurant, we were by far the youngest but the food was so good and the portions are huge. My parents love this place too. Service was quick and friendly and the walleye was SO good. The breading on the Whitefish was a little wet.
google avatar

Channing J.

Yelp
Steak and eggs for breakfast was the perfect Ute to a hangover. Bloody Mary was a little on the salty side for me though.
google avatar

Ted B.

Yelp
Location is great. Hostess was very nice. Service was fast. Menu options are very good. Portions was great. But being Cajun expecting Cajun seasoning which was one of the options missed the boat. I guess they placed the seasoning next to the food and forgot to add to the dish. Oh well. I should had know better. The white fish fried was very juicy and the batter was nice and crispy. Just missed seasoning. Price was fair. If ever I'm back there, I will stop in.
google avatar

Yelp
When u first see this place it has a great view of the Soo Locks, u can literally watch the freighters come on go while u enjoy your meal, it's not everyday u get a view like this while eating. The scenery here is really interesting and alot of Artifacts throughout the restaurant to see and read, even the bathroom has interesting things to see. So now let me get to the food. I had a bowl of New England Clam Chowder and it was creamy and delicious. It was exactly what I needed as an appetizer then I ordered the Whitefish Rueben Sandwich and that was so good, I dont like coleslaw but the way they incorporated the coleslaw into the sandwich along while being on soft Rye bread was amazing, the cheese melted into your mouth as did the whitefish. This place is truly amazing and not just for the food but the scenery and the learning experience, it is a must see if you are in Sault St Marie.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
I live a good family-owned restaurant. Historical significance makes this restaurant even better. The Lock View has been in operation since xxxx with a direct view of the Soo Locks. We sat and watched a large freighter come in. If you like fresh fish, this is the place. We had the Fish Sampler for dinner with white fish, perch, and walleye. All fresh with not a hint of fishiness. Perfectly prepared one of six different ways. Ours was fried and delicious. Enough for two people. For breakfast, you must try the Monte Cristo. I compare all Monte Cristo's to the one at Disneyland The Blue Bayou, which I consider the gold standard. Lock View's Monte Cristo is just as good and you won't have to pay an exorbitant park admission. Service was incredible. Super friendly, cheerful staff.
google avatar

Manda J.

Yelp
The food and raspberry iced tea and service were great, and the atmosphere was clean and quirky
google avatar

Daniela B.

Yelp
What a charming spot right on Sault St. Marie, Michigan. I was really hoping to try the local specialty fish and this restaurant didn't disappoint me. The whitefish was fresh and very tasty. We went for dinner and had to go back for breakfast! The service is fantastic! Being walking distance from the locks, the Lock View restaurant is the perfect spot for good local cuisine.
google avatar

Bob T.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast today, seating and service were great as was the food! Well worth your time when in the area!
google avatar

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
The best breakfast in the Soo! It's a shame it's a seasonal restaurant because I would love to come here all year long for the breakfast. Yum!
