The 15 Best Restaurants In Tulum

"Loco is our favorite place for lunch in Tulum Beach. Even though this is a Mediterranean restaurant with a menu filled with tofu salads, pasta, falafel, and vegan burgers, they make great fish tacos. Order those and a Mexican craft beer and hang out among the palm trees. " - barbara gutierrez

Google
Definitely check this place out! We had a fairly large group and they took care of us really well! Had a chance to try some tacos, hummus and a few other apps. Was surprised how good the hummus was…considering we’re in Mexico! One thing you definitely should bring is bug spray! Check them out, won’t regret it!

We came here twice during a recent stay on beach road in Tulum. The staff is extremely friendly! We enjoyed every meal and appetizer we had. We also really enjoyed the tequila there; they seem to have some very smooth and tasty choices!

Google
The service-and the atmosphere was great. The food was ok nothing to brag about. We had lamb chops and honestly I was not impressed. They are a little pricey but overall a ok experience nothing special.

Google
We had such a great time at Loco. Beautiful setting, great food and perfect service. Everybody around us, from the owner to staff to other patrons, was vibing and I couldn't recommend this place enough!!!

Google
We first discovered this restaurant in January and we knew it was worthy of my birthday celebration in August. They did a nice presentation for my big day. The steak is my go-to and my wife ordered the squid ink pasta with shrimp one night and with lobster another. The service and food over three visits are very consistent. The Lamb Masbaha appetizer is a must try. One suggestion is to rethink how you handle the check at the end by adding in a tip for the staff and suggesting additional gratuity for the waiter and charging 5% for card payment. It could be handled differently to leave a better impression for your guests as they exit after a wonderful meal.

Google
High prices, small portions and food could be more delicious considering (I’d say if the portion is small, at least make it super tasty). Service was excellent though (waiters’ service, not the lady whose job is just to bring the bill and charge you). Prices are already high but they also include 15% mandatory tip on top (without letting you know), plus 5% card charge on bill + tip. From ALL the places I’ve eaten in Tulum during my visit, this was my least favourite. I do not recommend.

Google
This restaurant is near to our resort so we gave it a try and we have no regrets and eventually made friends with the staff. Food are great! They are Mexican - Mediterranean fusion and they did not disappoint. Must try are the Fish Tacos and Red Tuna on the Grill! My wife and I were served by Manuel and he was very knowledgeable of the menu items and I must say even the drinks as I've got a quick tequila and mezcal lessons for free. :-) The service is absolutely impecabble. This will be our go-to restaurant in Tulum as the everything is awesome, the food, ambience and the staff!

Google
Food was excellent, service was very good. The problem I have with this restaurant was the lack of disclosure on their tipping policy. We had a party of 7, and only 6 people ordered food. The restaurant included a 15% tip for "the kitchen and the bar", well okay. Here's the kicker, they then expected me to tip the waitress on top of that. Total tip was $1250 pesos on a $5,000 pesos bill. Again, I thought the service and food were very good; however, this appears to be a trick of the owner to escape paying decent wages to his employees. It's really too bad, because it was good food and service, but the tipping pressure left a bad taste in my mouth. Likely won't ever go back.

Yelp
I loved everything about this restaurant. The food had great flavors and was balanced. The service was exceptional. It was like the waiter could read our minds. It was super hot - the server came with a fan and complimentary lemonade. Then flys came around during the main course. The waiter provided the little fan to swat them away and a big spray. Now the food, the hummus was creamy and smooth with warm pita. My guy ordered the squid ink pasta which was plenty and was seasoned well. I ordered the catch of the day. They ran out of the catch and we substituted lobster. The cauliflower hummus so good I wanted to lick the plate. The greens(spinach I think) was cooked well. Then we had the halva ice cream which was different but a nice close to the meal. If in Tulum again, I will come back.

Yelp
Wow just wow. The hotel zone in Tulum is a bit of a dead zone for great authentic food but my oh my this place puts that stereotype to shame. We were walking around looking to find a lunch spot and my oh my we got lucky. Not only were they incredibly accommodating to my son to order a breakfast dish awfully close to lunch time but they also whipped out some amazing lunch time food. We got the tuna tataki that was layered on top of an amazing fresh couscous salad, the fish tacos are as advertised (not your typical Mexican grandmas tacos though) packed with flavor and insanely good. The lamb hummus? Get outta here out of this world good. We also tried several cocktails including the coco loco which was a fresh coconut with a blanco tequila and also their mezcal tasting. Staff was so kind and prompt, I'll definitely be back maybe even tonight!!!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. Why do they have a loud disco/techno dance mix playing? It completely wrecks whatever ambience this place might have. The service was ok When we went to order our server informed us they had no fish. This eliminated about half of the menu. Other than that the service was ok I ordered the babaganoush. It was a bit on the smokey side of the flavor spectrum which was a bit odd. But it was ok. My partner had the shawarma and that was good. Overall I should say this place is nothing special.

Yelp
Loco Tulum was right next to where we were staying. It was about a minute walk. The food here was amazing - I ended up getting a few different meals while we sat and ate there. All of their margaritas were so good, I had 3 while I was there. They also have a very large list of wines and are known for that! The fish tacos were so delicious!! The waiters game me some spicy sauce for them and it was perfect. The Mediterranean salad was good but not filling for a full meal. It's definitely not a traditional Mediterranean salad either. The falafel was delicious and gave with so many different dips to use! Would highly recommend.

Yelp
Great place with amazing food and outstanding service, enjoyed few times with my husband, great hospitality

Yelp
I love trying new things but in our two night stay in the area, we came here twice! The service is top notch and stands up to 5 star restaurants in any major city in the U.S. Both nights, they had live music. They lit copal to help keep mosquitoes at bay, this might be a lot for people sensitive to smells or smoke, however, it helped make a comfortable environment in an area filled with mosquitoes and fillies. The food is the shining star of this place. The food is beyond delicious. I could spend hours here eating everything on the menu. I can't wait to visit again. Loco Tulum is a special place and I will recommend this place to everyone. The menu changes, but the fish tacos are the best I have ever had. Even if you stay in downtown Tulum, it is worth the drive or cab ride.

Yelp
We arrived and did not have reservations so they put us toward the back of the restaurant despite the place being empty the entire time. I guess we're not as good looking as the Instagram models that keep this area busy! Despite my sober husband being harassed to take shots of tequila, the food was actually great and overall a nice experience. We started with the burratta. It was delicious but I did have to ask for pita to soak up the delicious tapenade and cheese. I ordered the grilled shrimp which were actually prawns I think and were 100 more pesos than the menu said (the server did warn me). Delicious dish but it came with like 3 avocados, which was a lot - even for this Californian. My husband ordered the special which was a sea bass. He thoroughly enjoyed it and ate the whole darn thing although we could have easily shared it!

Diego C.

Yelp
We have had 2 dinner during our holidays. They had one of the best tacos that I ate in my life. Those fish tacos are heaven. Don't miss their black pasta. Great ambient with live music and excellent service. Highly recommended

Yelp
This place is a GEM! You MUST come here! The foods are delicious!! I got the pasta, tacos, hummus, oh gosh! Sooooo good. The drinks too! Trust me, you'll thank me later! I highly recommend and I will definitely COME BACK AGAIN! 100%

Shane M.

Yelp
Nice server. Food decent. Babaganoush and squid ink pasta were good. Free tequila shots.

Iain P.

Yelp
The food is very good but the price is ridiculous. This is Mexico not California. The people from California have wrecked Tulum. Everyone expects a 20% tip in US Dollars. So the next time I go I will bring pesos and tip how I wish and not use a CC. The food and the drinks were very good but US$ 250 for two people is stupidness. Thanks California!! Idiots.

Yelp
Hummus was excellent and so was the lamb chops and couscous. Marcos has great service!

Yelp
Loco is amazing. Hands down the restaurant in Tulum. Literally better than anything in the US, period - and I live in LA. The service here is incredible. Reyes was absolutely fantastic - my man! In terms of food, we had the spicy Mezcal marg, fish tacos, babaganush, and lamb chops - all mind-blowing and fantastic!! This is a must if you're in Tulum!

Yelp
We went to this restaurant our first night in Tulum! It has a beautiful exterior and very vibey just like many of the surrounding restaurants. First of all, a few moments after we sat down our amazing waiter Carlos brought us Tequila shots on the house. Already this place starts on a high note. For drinks we got a mojito and coconut with mezcal (such a good combo) We decided to just get appetizers as we didn't see anything on the main course that drew us. We ended up getting 4 appetizers: Our Famous Fish Tacos, Tataki Idan, Sashimi and the Lamb Masbaha. The tacos were really good, they were spicy and flavorful while also fresh. The Tataki Idan was okay, the fish had some pieces that were very flavorful and others not as much. The tabulé was a little on the salty side. The Sashimi was good, the mix of ingredients really brought the flavors of the fish out. There were bean sprouts, radish, chipotle aoli and an avocado cream to tie it all together. Finally the lamb was delicious, it was flavorful, meaty and just the right amount of fat. I'm not even a lamb person and I appreciated this dish. It also came with hummus and pita bread. The hummus was super creamy. Finally we ended the dinner with Carlos bringing us more tequila and then we also had the digestive drink which was a shot of espresso and liquor 43 shaken and served over ice. While it was a little costly it was really good and I'm glad we got it.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, great breakfast omelette, low key atmosphere for a good bite without the scene
google avatar

Yelp
Every dish was amazing, we also had hummus in addition to images shared. Would definitely recommend as a must stop when you visit Tulum!
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible breakfast. The loco toast and Shakshouka was the best I've ever had. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. My favorite spot in Tulum.

Yelp
Wow! ....Amazing and delicious food! Attentive and friendly staff! Truly, this place is exceptional! While eating, I saw some people read the menu and walk away and I just wanted to tell them to "try it" haha "sit down!!" - this restaurant and staff will not let you down. I got a piña colada which was sooo good and my hubby got the coco with rum -- which they cut up freshly on the side. The food!! Honestly, one of the best I ever had! The hummus and pita bread - to die for! Freshly baked pita bread - I had to ask for more! We both got shrimp black linguine and amazing! Flavorful and hints of lemon, great parmesan slices - absolutely best! We also got shrimp tacos which were delicious! The cream/salsa was exquisite! Definitely worth a visit, worth the price, and great experience! They even gave a us a free shot of tequila which I hesitated lol but while on vacation, why not! Lovely location with lovely employees - thank you!

Yelp
We had our rehearsal dinner at Loco Tulum, everything went smoothly thank you Patricia and her team, thank you so much once again! Food is delicious, service and ambiance - everything was amazing! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! So delicious. The lamb chop couscous was so good, we asked for more of the couscous. To be clear, it's not simple couscous. The spices, veggies, and beans they add create this incredible flavor. We also ordered the Mediterranean salad and were very pleased with the vinegar to balsamic reduction ratio combined with slices of serrano peppers. Wish we could come back to Tulum more often just to eat here again. We also had the tofu salad the night before. Another great dish!
google avatar

Janina L.

Yelp
The food was exquisite. The prices matched, but for Tulum I guess they were reasonable. One of the best meals we've had in Tulum. And if you like shisha, though again the price is outrageous, it's the best shisha in the area. I'd give this restaurant 5 stars if prices weren't so high.

Kendra T.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food! My husband and I came in for dinner on our vacation and it was one of the best meals we had in Tulum.

Yelp
Reviewing Loco Tulum as a restaurant only. My main issue was the steak. This went down as follows: 1. Ordered it rare. 2. Got it well done. It's hard to tell from the photo because the lights were so dim. 3. They did not offer to make me another one. They just said they would not charge me for the one they messed up. This was, I think, because it was close to closing time. However, in the end I went home hungry! So, minus a point for messing up the order, and minus another point for not making me another steak. The steak is, by the way, very expensive. My expectations shift based on price point. If a restaurant prices something that high, it's a promise to the customer that it will be perfect - or that they will make it perfect. The home-made bread was too sweet for my taste. I was expecting bread, but I would actually say it's more like Mexican sweet bread than it is regular homemade bread. The artichoke hearts were good, but could have been cleaned better. The dessert was my favorite part of the meal. It was delicious! I don't recall what it was called, but if you're curious you can see it in the photos I posted. The service was excellent. I liked my server very much. He was polite, kind, and made an effort to speak English even though I was trying to speak Spanish with him. Super nice guy. At some point they started burning this really thick incense, and the smell was overwhelming. I think some people may like it, but it was way too strong of a smell for me.

Yelp
We hit this restaurant the first night and came back our last. Every single item we ate on the menu was divine. The tuna tartare and the whole fish was amazing. Mediterranean salad was spicy and yet so flavorful. We loved the service by Gustavo. Great spot and a must do if you like fresh food.
google avatar

Nathalia Z.

Yelp
A MUST! One of the best breakfasts in Tulum by far. Breakfast comes with coffee and freshly squeezed juice. You get to see the bartender make your juice and the chef putting it all together. The food is delicious and filling while the atmosphere is all you would imagine Tulum to offer. I always take a picture of my food and this is the one time I "inhaled" it before realizing that I didn't capture a pic. The customer service is amazing, our waiter gave us dope recommendations for cenote and must do. If you come make sure to ask for Nicholas and you won't regret it.
google avatar

Kai L.

Yelp
This restaurant is in front of Hotel Casa Coyote, and provides complimentary breakfast to guests of the hotel. I had breakfast and lunch here daily. Every item on the Mediterranean menu is delicious. I highly recommend the tuna over couscous and tabouli salad. The veggie omelette was a light but filling and perfectly seasoned. A perfect start to the day. It's also a popular spot in the area, so a good place to meet other travelers.
google avatar

Oshri S.

Yelp
Leonil is an awesome person, gracious and kind. The food was amazing, service was friendly and we truly enjoyed our visit
google avatar

Yelp
The staff puts their heart and soul into this restaurant. I loved eating their food and chatting with everyone here. All their food is fantastic. You can't go wrong! For breakfast the bacon bagel is delicious with a side of avocado. For lunch, I love the tuna dishes. The baba ganoush is a great appetizer. I love the vibe and working here. On Fridays they have ladies night. Wine is 2x1. Their music is always on point. Check out this spot! I'll surely be back!
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Amazing value. Step outside your hotel and eat here! Superb service. Carlos was fabulous. Food is great. Fish tacos might be the best I've ever had - very light very tasty. Ask them about the local tequila... better than your don julio at 1/2 the price. 5 stars all around
google avatar

Felicia G.

Yelp
Drinks were tasty not heavy on the liquor. The tacos were a little overdressed but ok. The chips were great and the guacamole was also the highlight of my first lunch in Tulum. The service was cool. Our server was talkative and kept our attention. When my husband gave our server feedback about the lack of alcohol in his drink. He was open to feedback and said he would give the kitchen feedback. Overall it was ok.
google avatar

Apoorva G.

Yelp
We accidentally stumbled upon loco while walking the strip, and our experience was incredibly. We initially walked in for the $1 shots but we ended up having food and about 5 rounds of shots!! The staff is so hospitable and attentive to everything. Probably the best way to start our first day in tulum!! Also Gustavo was absolutely incredibly
google avatar

K. O.

Yelp
We stopped here for breakfast one morning on our trip and it was so cute! Our server was so patient and kind with us, especially with us knowing very little Spanish and him knowing very little English- but it worked out! They have great bagel sandwiches and 2 for 1 mimosas!
google avatar

Kassandra F.

Yelp
This bar had excellent service from staff to drinks! Everyone was so nice & the coco loco was incredible. Definitely will be coming back. The food smells amazing although we didn't have enough time to eat!
google avatar

Davin W.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Came here for my girlfriends birthday dinner and they really went beyond my expectations. Murillo was our server and he was attentive and always making us feel Special. I recommend going here if you are in Tulum. Also, they have $1 tequila shot with dinner if you like a happy end to a great feast. Thanks again Murillo!!
google avatar

Emilie M.

Yelp
Good food, good vibes, great staff! Highly recommend! We went for brunch and the bagel sandwiches were amazing
google avatar

Stephanie E.

Yelp
The food was good, not great. Music was too loud. Nice vibe but not for the price. I had the large shrimp on guacamole.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
The food here is amazing, the staff is incredible, and $1 tequila shots cannot be beat! The bread appetizer was so damn good! Shrimp pasta was delicious

Shell W.

Yelp
Crying at the fact that I can't just order their food whenever I want. I've lived in California for most of my life and I visited Mexico a handful of times and I've never had tacos as good as Loco Tulum. I had the fish tacos and everything about these tacos were perfect.
google avatar

Mishy V.

Yelp
Amazing food and customer service. Friendly and super flavorful! Get the sea bass it was to die for!
google avatar

Jovin B.

Yelp
The family was craving pasta and we found this place since it was really close to Nomade. We found a gem! Even though we were the only people here for dinner this place deserves more recognition and customers! The garlic pasta, pasta marinara and the hummus/pita was delicious. The burrata and falafel was too! We kept ordering the warm pita bread.
google avatar

Cesca F.

Yelp
Ahhhhhh this place is amazing!!!!! Gustavo...tabo....our waiter was incredible. The head chef *french kiss* the shots of tequila that were flowing *double French kiss* this place was freaking incredible!!!! We had the best fish tacos, lamb chops and Cesar salad! This place should be packed!!!
google avatar

Pepe F.

Yelp
I took my family to eat in loco, what we really like the tuna grill and the tataki. Also the service was amazing, we can really recomend on this place, it was the best food we ate in Mexico
google avatar

Peter N.

Yelp
Great food, nice atmosphere, staffs were super friendly. We did order $1 tequila shot but I got charged something else and tip added on the bills was unexpected. It always nice to give us head up,
google avatar

Joy W.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service. The waiters were so nice and we had such a great time! We were there for my birthday and they gave us sparklers and shots and even put on Stevie wonders happy birthday. The lamb is to die for! If you love lamb, you have to try this one! I would definitely return for the ambience and the great people!
google avatar

Bob W.

Yelp
This place has a nice variety of choices on the menu and the food is phenomenal. My wife proclaimed the fish tacos as 'best ever!' I would have to agree. The asparagus appetizer, the super fresh salad, the pasta and some really nice wines to pair. The chef coming to our table with tequila shots was icing on the cake. This great little place gets my highest marks for food and friendly service.

Sarah R.

Yelp
Great spot! It is definitely worth the walk/travel down tulum beach to get to this spot. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was the best breakfast we had in tulum and was very affordable.
google avatar

Buliwyf m.

Yelp
Very good hospitality culture. We had fish tacos not authentic but fusion. I've eaten a ton of tacos these were unique and very good. The staff was very welcoming and a very high level of service despite how little money I spent. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Dorothy D.

Yelp
We made reservations for 9:00 PM but arrived at 9:20PM due to traffic and they lacks of parking ( we paid 200 Mexican pesos for parking and that was the only negative thing during our dinner. Our waiter Jefferson was amazing (he helped me picked the best entree that suits my needs and recommended some drinks (the passion fruit margarita was my favorite if you do not like spicy don't get the spicy margarita) Carlos who brought us our food was also amazing. We truly enjoyed our second night at dinner.
google avatar

Nicholas H.

Yelp
Gustavo and Nico were fantastic! So much fun! Come here for cheap but very great food and drinks
