Reviewing Loco Tulum as a restaurant only.
My main issue was the steak. This went down as follows:
1. Ordered it rare.
2. Got it well done. It's hard to tell from the photo because the lights were so dim.
3. They did not offer to make me another one. They just said they would not charge me for the one they messed up. This was, I think, because it was close to closing time. However, in the end I went home hungry!
So, minus a point for messing up the order, and minus another point for not making me another steak.
The steak is, by the way, very expensive. My expectations shift based on price point. If a restaurant prices something that high, it's a promise to the customer that it will be perfect - or that they will make it perfect.
The home-made bread was too sweet for my taste. I was expecting bread, but I would actually say it's more like Mexican sweet bread than it is regular homemade bread.
The artichoke hearts were good, but could have been cleaned better.
The dessert was my favorite part of the meal. It was delicious! I don't recall what it was called, but if you're curious you can see it in the photos I posted.
The service was excellent. I liked my server very much. He was polite, kind, and made an effort to speak English even though I was trying to speak Spanish with him. Super nice guy.
At some point they started burning this really thick incense, and the smell was overwhelming. I think some people may like it, but it was way too strong of a smell for me.
