Locol’s Third Location Is Now Open at Whole Foods in San Jose - Eater SF
"Celebrity chefs Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson have opened a third location of their “revolutionary fast food” venture Locol today in San Jose. The latest restaurant, at 777 The Alameda, debuts as the other two return from an extended holiday break with updated menus focused on burgers and “foldies,” sandwiches folded and grilled like quesadillas. Starting today, Locol will serve food for pick-up inside the market and to customers outside through a take-out window." - Caleb Pershan
This location doesn't serve fried chicken sandwiches while the beef patties have tofu and mixed grains in them to reduce the cal/fat count. Taste is average, and lack of chicken options puts this in Five Guys (close by) or In-n-Out (better tasting) category. Go elsewhere for your burgers. Fries are good though. Expect $9 for a single cheeseburger meal with fries and drinks.

NEVER have I ever been yelled at by the manager of the place and had her finger in my face, when I had literally said nothing. Be sure to make it explicitly clear what you want or you’ll get a default burger.
I ordered and literally read off the menu a veggie burger combo, keep in mind this place is inside a Whole Foods where most people are vegan/vegetarian. They gave me a cheeseburger. I wasn’t mad about it, and I asked them if they could remake it as I ordered a plain veggie burger not a cheese burger. I waited 5 mins and they gave me a second cheese burger.... but this time they gave me regular meat inside. I still wasn’t mad but I just wanted to have a burger and go back to work.
I spoke to the lady that made my order and asked why they put cheese on it again and added meat to it. Their response “ you asked for a regular burger, a regular burger has cheese on it, we thought you wanted real meat this time”. I just read of the menu word for word what I wanted and they by default give you a cheese burger. Because “ all burgers have cheese” says the manager.
Then the manager got up from her little group on the back all squatting to not been seen came up ( you have to ring a bell for them to notice you and take your order) and started to yell at me and shove her fingers in my face. I’m a customer success manager for a large volume audience and have never had another manager just start yelling at me without any reason.
You’d get better service at McDonald’s. Be sure to make it explicitly clear what you want or you’ll get a default burger.
Usually it’s the customer that makes the scene but it’s the manager that did it.

Really wanted to like this place, given the chefs involved and the overall intention of the chain. However, the food just wasn't good. Been twice, had a burger that was soggy and bland, and a bland foldie with undercooked beans. Fries were good both times, but for the price, tons of better food options out there.

Was in a hurry and grabbed a few $5 ready made burgers. They were fairly bland. Had some sauce but overall flavorless. The patty was overcooked. The bun was decent. Overall meh 2.5/5.

I got the bean and cheese foldie. It was $3 but more or a snack than a meal. It tasted good with a green sauce. It’s just hard to complete on that location because you have so many options. It also is cooked to order so it takes a few mins.

Excellent $6 burger, $3 machaca foldie and $3 fries. Order inside Whole Foods and pick up food a few minutes later at a window facing a nice outdoor covered seating.
