I used to frequent this location and the ones in Solana Beach and Encinitas very often. The coffee was consistently good back then, and I used to rave about it to all my friends. This was my first visit since last year, and the customer service has drastically gone downhill here. I understand that everyone has their bad days, but all three employees working behind the counter??
It wasn't busy when I first approached, and I smiled at the staff. All the girls looked away or down, and it took them a bit to finally greet me as if I was inconveniencing them. That was the first red flag... After receiving my mocha, I found it very bitter and not made correctly as requested. When I kindly asked the barista to remake the drink, she gave me a blank stare and didn't say anything before proceeding to do so. The second one wasn't good either, so I just accepted that the quality had gone down. Bummer...
I also ordered a pastry and was waiting for it near the area where they used to put their coffee and food take-out orders. None of the staff acknowledged that items were waiting on the opposite side of the counter. They just looked at me a few times until I finally asked if the pastry was ready after the line grew and then died down. My pastry was now not warm at this point...
As someone who worked in customer service for a long time, I'm baffled at how poorly trained and/or unmotivated these employees were. Missing the old days of the quality coffee and warm hospitality :(
