If you are looking for somewhere to stay while you visit the Angers to Saumur part of the Loire Valley, the Auberge Bienvenue is a good choice. There is good road access to the places of interest and plenty of exceedingly good wine producers. The ||Chateaux of the Loire however are a good bit to the east.||||Auberge Bienvenu is part of the Logis group and is noted as a Table Exceptional – or outstanding food – and it is extremely good with an excellent wine list. They serve a really good continental breakfast at a very reasonable price. ||||The hotel is well run and very welcoming. The rooms are spacious, but surprisingly lacking in storage. There are no drawers and the cupboards miss the opportunity for shelves. On each side of the bed there is a small shelf – from their website, there was a second shelf, but that has disappeared leaving the fixing holes in the wall. Why no small bedside chest of drawers?||||The spa is excellent – a reasonable size pool and Jacuzzi. It’s part of the separate garden area block and you are asked to change there, rather than in your room. OK, but there are only two changing booths and no lockers. When four of us arrived there was a couple in the pool who’d left clothes in one of the booths. We took it in turns to change in the other one and left our clothes on chairs. There weren’t many chairs either.||||The beds are comfortable and, despite being on the side towards the main road, we were not disturbed at night. There is a very large Super U and a small Lidl just down the road towards the town centre and a Bioparc (zoo) almost next door in an old stone quarry. With a little extra investment in storage this would easily be a five star place to stay. As it is, I have to round it down to four stars.
