We stayed at the Auberge Metzger because it was close to the concentration camp memorial of Natzweiler/Struthof. The accommodations were better than we had expected, even after reading the TripAdvisor reviews. Because we had our teenage grandson with us, we reserved the family room, which had a small, separate bedroom for him as part of our suite. The room was decorated and furnished with lots of wood, was immaculately clean, had a balcony with a view of the local mountains, and very comfortable beds. Everything seemed new, although the hotel info told us that it had been renovated a couple of years ago. Our suite cost 125 € for the night, our other two family members had a "comfort plus" double for 90 €, both with breakfast included. Breakfast was impressive: boiled eggs, lots of cold meats, several good cheeses, cereals, fruits, yogurts including a liquid one, several breads, croissants, pannetone, multiple jams, juices (including what my wife called really good grapefruit juice), fromage blanc, even small crèpes with Canadian (!) real maple syrup, + coffee and tea, of course -- coffee with warm milk. Dinner the night before had also been very fine, elegantly served with impressive presentation. My wife ordered the Alsation sauerkraut (choucroute alsatienne), which arrived in a cast iron pot, and contained enough sauerkraut and various kinds of meat to feed all five of us (had we but known in advance). Our grandson had a scallop risotto that was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate, and my zander (a perch-like freshwater fish) in riesling was also excellent. The landlady picked a local wine for my wife and sister-in-law that they both pronounced to be superb, and all had desserts that were simply delectable. This is a great place to eat as well as to stay.
