La Mère Hamard

"This stone-built inn, which opened in 1903, is a genuine institution. The delightful dining room is flanked by a welcoming terrace shaded by wisteria, ideal to sample delicate, generous dishes, tinged with the occasional exotic influence. Attentive welcome and a few guestrooms for overnight stays." - Michelin Inspector

Wow, what a find, the rooms were great but teh food was simply exceptional, so much so we deliberately booked back in on our way home to re-visit. Madam could not have been more helpful or kinder and they were very welcoming to our dogs as well. There is a beautiful woodland walk only 2 miles away. Just a perfect visit, thank you, highly recommended.

One of the best dinners I've ever had. And I've eaten in over 100 countries. Meal 10/10 but it was the dressing on the starter (carpaccio of sea bream) and the main course sauces that were exceptional . For that I give 12/10. A most memorable evening. Big Thanks to Alice and her memorable wine list The rooms across the street also perfect. Read that Duke of Windsor and Mrs Simpson stayed here in May 1937 Have told all my friends who regularly visit France . I will definitely return a.s.a.p.

Love this place. It's a top notch fine dining restaurant with rooms, so bed, breakfast and evening meal. Rooms are all ensuite, idiosyncratic, and comfortable. Check in desk is in yhe restaurant, and bedrooms are located opposite in a lovely manoir with a car park to the rear. The restuarant menu is typically french and offers a la carte. The wine list is very extensive and arrives at your table as a massive tome.

Fabulous place for a stop over on our way south. Comfortable room with our dog. The restaurant food has to be some of the nicest food I have ever tasted. Beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Make sure you are hungry - there are many extra courses, all painstakingly prepared. Breakfast, if you can manage it, is equally good with a choice of fresh breads, baked goods, yummy croissants and eggs. We have stayed twice and have booked in again.

A warm welcome, comfortable room, garden to sit in, good food and wine. What better way to start and end our holiday.

This is a superb hotel and restaurant. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated and the bathroom was exceptional.||Our dinner was the 75€ menu with the lobster 10€ supplement. From the beginning our evening was memorable. The courses were described by a very friendly and courteous young man with great skill and poise. Our aperitif was the house champagne generously served (1.4.dl.) and with a fine taste and appearance. We chose a local Touraine wine and were very impressed. The food was of the very highest quality.||Overall, a top-notch hotel and restaurant with a great Maitre-D, Alice, & talented Chef, Olivier .

I wish there would be a way to rate the hotel and restaurant separately as the two parts have very different ratings in my view. The restaurant was a great experience, with tasty dishes and excellent service. The prices were a bit steep for not too big portions, but there are no similar calibre restaurants nearby, so it is OK. The hotel on the other side will definitely need some TLC. The rooms are a bit dated and small. The shower was also not great. At least the place and the rooms are quiet.

We had a fantastic stay at Hôtel de la Mère. The staff were kind and very accommodating to our children. We had a pretty room which was spacious with a well equipped bathroom. The restaurant is fantastic with a romantic courtyard outside and pretty dining room inside. The food was very special and we were treated to several amuse bouches in addition to the courses we ordered. It was lovely that the children could eat the same special food as the adults but for a fraction of the cost. Breakfast is a comprehensive and luxurious Continental affair with every pastry you can imagine.

Yelp
So I'm a huge fan of Foie gras, it's definitely one of my favorite things to eat. Unfortunately it's not very abundant where I live (Hawaii) so it's expensive and you get this tiny little portion about the size of a 50 cent piece. When we ate at Le Mére Hamard, my friend ordered the Foie gras with banyuls and carmelized turnips for dinner and when it came out, my eyes bulged out their sockets. There were 3 cutlets of foie gras each the size of a scroll wheel mouse! SERIOUSLY?! This dish would be equal to getting 7 or 8 foie gras portions in Hawaii. The cutlets were in a rich butter and banyul wine sauce that (I think) had demi glace in it. The diced carmelized turnips added just the right texture to the fatty livers. Holy schmolly this was incredibly good. The other dishes ordered were: Pressed rabbit terrine and Foie gras Steamed mussels in curry cream and crispy mushrooms Slow braised veal shanks (special of the day) Desserts: Baba ah rum with vanilla ice cream Pain perdu with fresh raspberries Raspberries in creme anglaise Everything was over-the-top delicious! There were also 2 amuse bouches served prior to the main dish and a small plate of sweet petit fours before the dessert. The great food and the friendly staff (that all spoke english very well) made this the most memorable meal of the trip. i hope to return.
