"In 4 B.C.E., the only residents of Saumur were troglodytes, or people who lived in limestone caves that formed over 90 million years ago. Experience their ancient lifestyle for yourself at La Demeure de la Vignole, a hotel that occupies a former troglodyte village on a hillside in the Loire Valley. Here, four of the 11 rooms are actually in the caves, while the other seven are housed in a 17th-century, Tuscan-style mansion overlooking the valley. Guests can also look forward to a heated pool in the caves, as well as friendly, accommodating staff who are happy to help arrange trips to nearby Fontevraud Abbey and Château de Saumur."

Logis Hôtel Demeure de la Vignole is an absolute hidden treasure! From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by its unique charm, blending history, elegance, and modern comfort seamlessly. The rooms were beautifully designed, offering a cozy yet refined atmosphere, and the troglodyte setting made our stay feel truly special. The attention to detail and cleanliness were impeccable. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed for a relaxing stay.

We had a wonderful stay in the family suite. It was fascinating. The suite had everything we needed. It’s not a luxury setting as it’s in a cave, but it’s a very interesting experience. The beds are very comfortable. The bathroom is well appointed. ||We had to step outside the room to get Wi Fi but that’s part of the experience. Breakfast was very nice & the host was very welcoming & helpful. The people we met staying at the the hotel were interesting people looking for something a bit different. We loved our stay.

My second visit to this uniquely characterful troglodyte Logis hotel overlooking the Loire Valley in the outskirts of Turquant; having been so impressed by last year's stay with it's relaxed atmosphere and stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The fixtures in the rooms are pretty basic and quirky but comfortable. The affable owner Yannick is an accomodating host to his guests. He will be greatly missed when he finally retires. The new owner will have a lot of work to do to match Yannick's hospitality! Hope to return one day. I would happily recommend it to others. Good attractions nearby are the Domaine Filliatreau located right next door to the hotel and the L'Hélianthe restaurant just a short walk away in the village.

Quirky, unusual, unique. All these words apply to this accommodation. We stayed for one night on our journey south from St. Malo. For us it was a perfect stopping point. Enough driving for our first day in France and time to sample one of the many Château in the area. Yannick, the host, spoke good English, was very friendly and helpful and made the stay very relaxing. |Some points you may find helpful. The drive into the parking area has a narrow point to get through, we have a reasonably big car and it did squeeze through, if you’re not confident you can park and walk the extra distance. |The accomodation is fascinating and comfortable, but by nature can feel a little dark and claustrophobic, any more than two nights would have been too much for us.|We stayed on a Sunday, the village is pleasant and a short pleasant walk away but not much open. I would advise to ask Yannick to reserve a table in advance if you wish to eat locally,

A great place to stay. The owner is very friendly and made the stay really easy for us. The breakfast was lovely and the room was very clean. The parking is tight but manageable. The swimming pool is clean and interesting as it’s built into the rock. Local restaurants are easily accessible and the food in the restaurants was lovely. The owner knows all the good places to eat - listen to his recommendations!

A real gem of a hotel built into the caves. A fantastic retreat from the business of sightseeing with an excellent, attentive host who was happy to book and recommend restaurants and places to visit. We were greeted with a half bottle of wine from the local vineyard (30 steps away from the hotel) which was a lovely touch and we thoroughly enjoyed the wine tasting there on our 2nd day. Breakfast was superb with lots of local specialities and producers being showcased. Our only downside of the whole visit was the bathroom in our room which could have done with an update. A real treasure of a hotel made very special by the host!

Yelp
We stayed at Residence of the Vignole for one night in early October 2018 to ride our folding bikes along the river; we liked it so much that we booked a second night! Yannick, the owner/host was charming and very helpful + he speaks great English! He toured us around the property, which is remarkable. There is a heated swimming pool built into a cave in the hillside (there are "troglo" rooms you can book that are literally caves as well!). Our room had wonderful high ceilings, with a separate sitting room, twin beds which together are "king size". Outside our room was an expansive terrace with nice views of the vineyard next door. Yannick's breakfast was really excellent, with eggs, lots of different meats, cheeses, and breads served buffet style. It was very reasonably priced for the quality of the offering, so a "10" in value as well. We plan on staying here again when we visit the Loire Valley!

Yelp
Our stay at Demeure de la Vignole was wonderful! Yannick and his wife were incredibly accommodating and provided us with great recommendations of area activities. This hotel is perfectly located outside of any major cities with plenty of walking and biking paths nearby. The hotel is a short 10 minute drive away from Saumur, a beautiful city with many attractions and restaurants.
