Des Ardennes

"The Maqua family’s charming hotel has been welcoming guests in the Ardennes since 1900 and several generations continue to work in the family establishment. The peaceful rooms overlook the rolling countryside, while in the restaurant, the accent is on satisfying French favourites, albeit in keeping with today’s tastebuds. The cooking is spot on and flavoursome. Splendid wine cellar." - Michelin Inspector

We stayed here for 7 nights in room 109 - a lovely, modern spacious room overlooking the garden with a super bathroom and I can honestly say that we didn’t want to leave at the end of our stay. Everything about this hotel is perfect: the staff are friendly and efficient and the food is amazing. The buffet breakfast offered a large selection of the usual breakfast choices but also some we’d not encountered for breakfast before - I became hooked on the delicious cold rice pudding with cherries! Plus all served with a very decent coffee. The set evening meal could not be faulted and you were offered an alternative if there was a course which did not appeal. The wine list was very reasonably priced too. All in all, we cannot fault a single thing during our stay and we’ll definitely return next year. Many thanks to all involved during our stay - you were great!

The hotel is fantastic. The grounds and everything is very well kept. Dinner was nice, they have a lovely terrasse on which you can have a drink. Breakfast buffet with hot and cold food. Staff very friendly and helpful.|The only thing is no air-conditioning and it was over 30 degrees.

We had a very tasty dinner from 4 courses with wine pairing. It was really tasty, and place was very welcoming. If you are person who loves animals there is a nice bonus waiting for you in the face of very friendly cat:)

Well located and well managed family hotel. It's spotlessly clean - all staff are adhering to the Covid 19 guidelines. The room was simple but large - it faced onto the main road but we didn't hear any noise. We loved relaxing in the hotel's adjoining garden. The staff members are extremely friendly and efficient. The food was amazing. Highly recommend - look no further!

The hotel is beautiful, bathroom exquisite, grounds awesome and staff super-friendly. However, one staff member (Pauline) went way beyond the call of duty. In brief, a tyre on my car failed. The replacement tyre was going to take 3 days to arrive. She then got on the phone and then managed to source exactly the right (specialist tyre) within in about 20mins - acting as a French/English translator. Within a couple of hours I was back on the road. I can honestly say, this without her assistance my driving holiday would have been a disaster. Thank you to all of the lovely staff.

We stayed two nights at the Hotel Des Ardennes and had a wonderful stay. We had a large room overlooking fields at the back of the hotel, with a comfortable bed and a bathroom with large bath and a walk-in shower. Lovely accommodation. ||||We stayed on a ‘half board’ basis. We advised the hotel at the time of boking that my wife is allergic to fish, and we were allowed to change fish courses on the four-course set menu for other items from the a-la-carte menu without fuss or bother. The restaurant staff were very obliging. The food was excellent.||||Just one slight niggle: there were no tea / coffee making facilities in the room. Had there been, the hotel would have been ‘perfect’.||||The hotel is well placed for exploring the beautiful scenery of the Belgian Ardennes.||||We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Des Ardennes – I am sure we will be staying again.

We only tried to use the terrace service, to have a beer in a sunny evening, but not very successful. We seated in the terrace, and they could see us from the window, but nobody ever came to attend us, in what it was something like 15 minutes we were there. Then, I entered the bar to order the beers as I thought maybe it's bar service, and they don't attend outside. The waiter said sure, so I came back to my seat outside. Another 10 minutes and still no beers. We decided to leave and only then the waiter called in the distance, "sir, your beers? !"

Happened on this gem of a hotel/restaurant last minute on a road trip (in search of the great Samois tobacconist Vincent Manil). We arrived to the hotel and village just around 8:15, after a long trip that culminated through a winding drive through the forest. We were greeted warmly by a 3rd or 4th generation hotelier. We had only 20 minutes or so to be seated for dinner in the packed dining room (for a small town, I was surprised that the restaurant and hotel were packed). The food was amazing! Great wine list. Room was very comfortable, with a view over the rolling hills. (No A/C, but it was not needed). Ample everything in room, comfortable. Wifi a little spotty. Breakfast good! Service very friendly. Solid historic building with interesting history. Nicely landscaped land, with tennis court, and foot fountain and chairs to relax in. Wish we could have stayed longer. Service very friendly, professional and helpful. And visit the tobacco museum two doors down! One piece of advice: We booked on the road via Booking and it forced us to have dinner included, which meant that we paid more for a room (but it was the "same" with dinner), but we didn't have our choice of entrees. Not sure why that happened and we didn't really understand it until we arrived. It worked out fine as dinner was excellent, but it isn't required to book that way.
