Fine cuisine marks this hotel above others. In the tiny village of Quarre Les Tombes, in the Morvan Regional Park, this hotel offers something so special that we arranged to return here after a previous memorable visit. Etienne Robbe offers meals that rate as a Michelin Selection. With careful attention to detail, each course is served on beautiful crockery and with fine silverware making the table a visual delight. But the delight to the taste buds is even more appealing with delicate flavours chosen to compliment each other. We chose half board and each night was a new surprise. Breakfast included a variety of delicious pastries and yoghurt a la maison, all served with the same careful attention to detail. Etienne Robbe is unfailingly helpful and attentive but in a gentle, unobtrusive way. His mother also helps in the restaurant and she is cheerful and charming. The hotel itself is decorated with French chic. As most small French hotels, the rooms are not large but ours, Saint George, was quite spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was quite large, there was a comfortable queen bed and all was spotlessly clean and fresh. The water pressure was good and the hot water was hot. The free wifi was good strength. This is not an area for public transport so you need a car. We used this as a base for 5 days and visited a winery (on Etienne's recommendation) Vezelay, Avallon, Chateau Castellux, the Resistance museum, the Benedictine Abbey in the forest near Vauban and took one of the long walks in part of a pilgrim trail. A very special hotel, off the usual tourist trail and definitely worth seeking out.
