Loi Suites Chapelco Hotel

"Overlooking a forest of Oregon pine, a Jack Nicklaus–designed golf course, and the north face of Mount Chapelco, this gable-roofed property may be set amid the untamed Patagonian wilderness, but there’s nothing untamed about the hotel. Situated in a 560-acre gated community, it attracts those more interested in smart decor and safety than full immersion in Patagonian culture. The terra-cotta-and-stone interior with burnished and buffed wooden furnishings maximizes the hotel’s biggest asset: its bucolic view. All 85 rooms, tastefully outfitted in purple, pink, and beige fabrics, with a cavernous sitting room warmed by a crackling fire, face the mountain, as do the two restaurants, where local trout, venison, and wild boar are expertly prepared. There are tubs and scrubs aplenty in the slick spa, game rooms for kids, and, while golfing guests rarely need leave the property, capable staff can organize rafting and fly-fishing excursions on the nearby Río Quilquihue. The more-venturesome can gallop through Lanín National Park, ascend 12,500-foot Volcán Lanín’s icy cone, or, in winter, ski Chapelco resort, and return for a sundowner on the hotel’s mountain-facing terrace."

The first thing that strikes you about the hotel is the location and the view it produces. The check in was quick and easy. The room contained two beds and a super view of the mountains. The bathroom had a walk in shower and a bath. The breakfast was nice selection, including fresh fruit, cereals, meet & cheese or sweet treats. The hotel had free wifi throughout and it was a strong connection. We had a very good evening meal in the hotel, and our group had a room to ourselves. The balcony for the hotel overlooks the golf course and mountains. The golf clubhouse is a 2 minute walk from reception.

We stayed here for golf, and from that perspective the hotel was fantastic, located alongside what has to be one of the best courses in the world and just yards from the clubhouse, where we enjoyed outstanding service from everyone, including all the Pro Shop staff. On that basis, we would recommend Loi Suites.||As for the hotel itself, there were pluses and minuses. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant, we found bar and restaurant staff to be attentive and friendly and we had a very large and comfortable suite, albeit without any airconditioning, which meant our golf course view had to be blocked by curtains all day long in order to keep a blazing sun at bay. ||A big minus was the lack of a balcony, promised on the hotel's website. It turns out that only a few suites have balconies, and in any event all those balconies appear to be faux: they are simply wooden appendages (some looking more than a little frayed) bolted onto the outside wall and inaccessible from the rooms themselves. Certainly, no balconies appear to exist at this establishment that one could actually sit on and enjoy a morning coffee on. As for coffee - we were informed by Reception on day two of our three-night stay that only two pods per room are complimentary, irrespective of the length of stay. Make of that little instance of mean-mindedness what you will.||Finally, we were checked into a room below the category our travel agent actually booked and which we'd paid for. When we raised this with Reception, we were offered a genuine suite with an outside deck, but since this offered no view at all, being on the ground floor and blocked, in stifling heat, by a small hillock, we settled for the smaller suite we'd had our luggage delivered to. An apology would have been nice, but none was forthcoming, and there was no suggestion of any refund. One can't help but feel that encouraging Reception staff to be just a little more customer-focused would do this hotel no harm at all.

The hotel is in a very beautiful and quiet setting overlooking the valley. The building is very tasteful and well maintained, we liked our room with a view.||Some areas for improvement: the service level varies from super helpful and English speaking via helpful/not English speaking to just not motivated.|The quality of food is ok, but not more and we went to San Martín for dinner on our second evening and had much better quality. Breakfast could offer healthier choices, eg muesli rather than corn flakes etc.|And finally the security control to the whole area is cumbersome and a pain.

Amazing location and staff! The property allows you to go fly fishing in the river as well as taking golf lessons! The rooms are very nice, the sun deck is amazing and the food is excellent! It is just 20 min from San Martin de Los Andes and 8 min from the airport !

! Careful if you are a tourist ! Rooms look nice and good location. However, it was such a struggle to book a room that we went somewhere else… Staff is very confusing, poor English, no flexibility and they try to provide prices (and fake “room upgrades”) which are more than what you can find on bookings platform.

We arrived only to find there was only one room reserved when we had reserved two rooms. Luckily the couple we were traveling had printed the email confirming two rooms. The hotel was booked and it took some convincing to insist we should have a room since it was the hotel's error. After a few hours of waiting, we were shown to a room with three single beds and again asked for a double bed. More time and the staff put two beds together for us. During our time waiting near the front desk, we could tell many guests were dissatisfied. The a/c did not appear to be working in either of our rooms and it was an extremely hot day. Dinner in the restaurant saved the day - good food and service. Staff did seem to be trying but clearly the hotel is not managed well and in need ofd refurbishment. I would probably not stay here again.

The hotel setting is great, 20 min from the city center but with a beautiful creek and world class golf course. The hotel needs a renovation in some rooms, my carpet was old and armchair was worn. The food was average, needs improvement in the menu and the breakfast is very basic and the same everyday. The gym equipments is out of service and definitely needs new equipment. The staff is very friendly. The hotel is also offering activities but I found it confusing as the information was not complete and clear. It’s best to plan as much beforehand or with an exterior operator.

The area is truly amazing with great views and lovely surroundings. The hotel needs a renovation as now a day is pretty basic. The breakfast needs to improve and provide fresh and high quality food. The staff is adorable. Walk around the Chapelco Club and enjoy the swimming on the river.
