The Best Pizza in San Juan, Puerto Rico | Bon Appétit

"An established spot (opened roughly a decade after a 1970s-era pizzeria) that focuses on thin-crust pies and operates heavily on weekends, offering a steady, thin-crust pizza option in the local scene." - ByAlicia Kennedy

Yes, yes, yes! Absolutely delicious pizza, adorable atmosphere and the sweetest mother daughter business owner duo! I was thrilled to choose between two unique options for Gluten-free crust. I chose pumpkin crust, so many veggies and extra cheese. It was literally the BEST PIZZA I'VE EVER HAD! My husband loved his pepperoni and mushroom "regular" super thin crust pizza and devoured it in no time! Obviously, we highly recommend!

Google
My fiancé and I came here because he loves pizza and it was close to our air bnb. The staff (glasses with braces) sorry, I don't remember her name was exceptional. We visited Puerto Rico for the first time and I must say she was the second person to show hospitality, friendliest & took time to make sure we understood her and vise versa. She explained the different dough options down to every pizza that they offered. It was her and an older lady working but I must say both of them did a great job as the business was busy. I will definitely recommend this place and I will definitely return when I visit PR again. Oh! The pizza was delicious. I wasn’t hungry when we went but after the first bite, it was a must that I ate more. Later that night when we got back to the air bnb, packed & settled, we regretted not taking a pizza to go. Thanks again!

Google
Incredible thin styled pizza. We ordered tomato almond pizza with coconut crust and chicken bourbon on pumpkin crust and both were amazing. Cozy local vibe with good atmosphere. Owner has the place since the 80s and has perfected the her recipe. Will visit again

Google
Pizza was amazing, highly recommended. We were going to stop at a pizza place about a mile down the road near the majority of the bigger hotels, but there was a 2.5-hour wait. We decided to head a bit closer (to our room in Ocean Park), and I am so glad we did because we discovered this gem with no wait, helpful, friendly service, and delicious food.

Erin M.

Google
The baba ghanoush pizza is something I dream of, you may have to wait but it is fresh and worth the wait

Google
Fantastic experience with awesome artisan pizza, homemade Sangria, and great service! Hector was fantastic and so patient and helpful! Listen to the reviews and try the coconut crust! Pictured are the Sangria (pricey, but worth the experience), eggplant, feta, and mozerella on pumpkin crust, and the bourbon pork pizza on the coconut crust. Absolutely worth stopping in for! Thanks, again, Hector, for the recommendations and awesome service!

Google
Definitely an experience worth having. Two lovely ladies making pizza from scratch and it’s absolutely worth the wait. It is very thin and somewhat small, so if you have more than 2-3 people get multiple!

Google
Absolutely loved this place, the people and the food. Such love, you taste it in every single bite. Can’t wait to come again! 😍😍😍 Great selection of crusts and topping, you cannot lose! Pumpkin was hit.

Yelp
Food was spectacular, and i will def be back when I come back to San Juan! It is a small business and only one or two people working the restaurant, so please be patient and kind to them. The space is small so this not ideal for a lot of people to eat dinner, I think 4 should be the max if you go in a group. With that being said I would recommend ordering ahead and taking pizza to go unless you don't mind waiting. It took about 45 mins to an hour to get food but I think it was worth it. Prices are reasonable and the food is yummy!

Yelp
This pizza was impressively thin and super tasty! We got the cuatro quesos. I just love that you can eat a pie and not feel guilty. They also have alternative dough options which is nice. The ambiance was dark and warm, we were the only patrons, so that felt odd. The service was good - the man was friendly and attentive. Go get some delicious guilt-free pizza!

Yelp
We went on a journey to get here and it was worth it. Well, not a bad journey, I just don't think many people would go out of their way for pizza in Puerto Rico. But life's simple: YOU MAKE CHOICES AND YOU DON'T LOOK BACK. Whiskey and Pizza...in a past life I know that's all I ate and drank as a baby. Got here super early and had the place to ourselves for a while. I was an absolute fan of the pumpkin pizza and coconut pizza. It took a while for one of our orders to come out after the first one got burned, but I have made pizza before and understood the trials and tribulations. The remake was excellent...I do wish we could have also tried the burned one though. It was probably fine. If you lack stamina Uber out here if you're staying near La Jolla or Old San Juan. We walked on the way here using the streets and then walked back at night on the beach. Great way to burn off thin crust!

Yelp
Unexpectedly delicious! We stumbled upon this place while exploring the neighborhood near our Airbnb. We arrived near 9pm and were greeted promptly by a young woman who doubled as our waitress. She seated us at a table right by the door. The restaurant is small, but inviting and cozy. We ordered one pepperoni pizza and PR cokes. The pizza arrived after about 25 minutes fresh out of the oven. The crust was whisper thin... yet it was just right. The pizza itself was a bit greasy so I blotted the top with a napkin in an effort to soak up some of the grease. Even still it was delicious. Easily some of the best pizza I've ever eaten. We liked it so much we returned a few days later. The pizzas are on the small size so we ordered two of them on the return visit. They only cost about $12 so they're extremely reasonable. The Coke they serve is bottled in PR so it has alot more sugar than the Coke bottled in the states. It was too sweet for me. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. Overall, our experience was awesome.

AJ B.

Yelp
The food and the pizzas are awesome, full of flavor! The service is good and it's conveniently located on a nice street. The ambient though is a little bit small and might need a renovation, but otherwise their products' flavor and all the options available to eat are very nice and very much recommended!

Yelp
If you are a fan of thin crust pizza this is the place in Condado or rather Calle Loiza. And if you are gluten intolerant these guys make crust from coconut, pumpkin and a few other fruits/vegetables. Simple menu and definitely more pricy but worth it.

Christina M.

Yelp
Sooooo good! Look forward to coming back, they having amazing variety. A gluten free dream!

Yelp
Thin Crust Pizza lovers! You should definitely try this place and I am sure you will fall in love with it. The place has identity. Small, cozy and comfortable. I ordered the veggie pizza on pumpkin crust. The veggies were cooked to perfection. The bell peppers, onions and tomatoes were crunchy.... mmm yummy. They have good quality ingredients and they grow their own basil, so say yes to sprinkling fresh basil on top of your pie. There is a full bar. The highlight for me was the Whiskey and Wine Sangria, very refreshing! To finish I should tell you they take care of you in a very friendly and attentive manner. I can't wait to be back.

Yelp
Had heard from a friend that this was really good thin crust pizza-and thin crust is not always the easiest to find. It was very good and very, very thin. My son had a cheese and pepperoni pizza and I had the four-meat special. We both liked them a lot. The staff was really helpful too talking through the menu and willing to customize. They have four crust options: regular, whole wheat, coconut and pumpkin. The space is pretty small with not a lot of seating but given that it is not on the busy end of Calle Loiza it's probably rarely full. TV is currently not working either post Maria. They do have a full bar too though.

Julie B.

Yelp
Best pizza in Puerto Rico!! Super yummy thin crust with creative options. All the crust options are delicious. The coconut crust goes great with all the pizza toppings, with a unique hint of sweetness. I love the the coconut and the whole wheat crusts because they are little healthier, without sacrificing on the flavor. They are also generous with their wine pours This is a small restaurant-- one server for the entire restaurant. I'm pretty sure there is also only one chef in the kitchen. The server is always gracious and polite. We witnessed a group of tourists berating him for what they perceived as a long wait for the pizza. He was very professional and patient, even while being yelled at in this manner. Like any busy place on a weekend, you may have to wait more than 20 mins to get your meal-- but trust me, it's worth it!! Plus, they are dog friendly

Yelp
Small dining area, we got our pizzas to go. Took about an hour (its a small operation). They were out of pizza boxes so put it in foil, which made the crust a little soggy by the time we ate it. Still amazing and delicious - great fresh toppings, didn't taste greasy or feel disgusting after, but satisfied pizza craving. Veggie pizza with sweet potato crust/ peril with coco crust - both amazing, plenty of veggies which are hard to find in PR I don't know the waiters name - but he was great, very nice and informative.

David M.

Yelp
We were heading somewhere around the corner and ended up at Loiza 2050. It was a little quiet on a Sunday night but glad we took a shot. The chorizo, salumi, ? - meat lovers in the thin crust was fabulous. Great service, nice little joint, great local beer options and WHISKEY!!! Need I say more? Great old fashioned(maybe two)!!!! Don't wait in line around the corner. Drop into Loiza's!!

Wendy H.

Yelp
Very tasty thin crust pizza. (Gluten free crust options too) We had the meat lovers and enjoyed it. It's a whiskey & beer bar.... good ol' fashions & local beers!! Small with few tables; I'm guessing they do a lot of takeout business.

Yelp
$50 dollars for two personal thin crust pizzas, a shot of whisky($10) and a bottle of water. 45 min wait. Stay away.

Patrick R.

Yelp
Was not expecting to go to Puerto Rico and have good pizza . But it happened. This place serves some fine thin crust artisan pizza. It honestly surprised me. I recommend the coconut crust; it is a small detail that doesn't take away from the pizza itself.
google avatar

Darcy D.

Yelp
This is literally the best pizza I've ever eaten. Holy smokes! If. You. Are. Ever. In. Puerto. Rico. You. MUST. Eat. Here.
google avatar

Carol R.

Yelp
Amazing flavor...the most delicious options of the thinest crust you can find, all ingredients gracefully combined. Excellent service and the whisky-sangria its just espectacular. Cozy and creative atmosphere.

Yelp
Uuughhhh, this PIZZA! ok so it costed us $16 (we chose the most expensive one) but it was SO worth it. First off, I read that the owner is the 3rd generation of female owners, which I wanna support. Second, she greeted us so warmly - explained the whole menu and gave more options, there's clearly LOVE in this establishment. Oh the pizza? Best I've had in years! Thin, crispy dough and prime, locally sourced ingredients! She really wants to support the local farmers, which is great. She has integrity - our diet coke was flat and she rushed to give the money back (we refused). She offered something else, but we were good. She even gave us great tips about the neighbourhood, and told some of the area's history and development over the last ten tears. We went in there asking for takeaway but ended up eating there because it was so lovely. I read they are also are experts in whiskey drinks, so we'll go back next thursday when they open again. Oh and they are a tiny place, but have over 40 kinds of beers! :D

Megan S.

Yelp
We loved their pizza so much we ordered two! We had the 5 cheese churrasco and it was fabulous- we'll definitely be back! Cute little restaurant in Santurce, obviously right off Loiza, and only big enough for 20 people maybe. We met the owner's daughter, Thelma, and learned her mother started the place 30+ years ago- and was still back in the kitchen slinging dough (husbands words). You don't keep a restaurant open in what used to be in a sketchy part of town for 30 years unless it's good, especially considering the prices weren't cheap. It's great to see a family run operation taking pride in the quality of their food and service here in Puerto Rico. Bravo to Loiza 2050!

Yelp
First of all I came here because of all the excellent reviews on the Pizza. And the pizza is amazing!!! I simply got the four cheese pizza and it was absolutely fantastic. The coconut flour crust is perfect complement to the Pizza. The crust is so incredibly thin I don't even know how they do it, but it was fantastic the only reason for a four star review is because they offered me the white sangria, which was very good, but failed to tell me that it was $12.50! That's outrageous!! They specialize in craft beer and whiskey, but failed to tell me how much a sangria would cost, yes I should've asked. But I could not believe the price. I would totally go here again for the pizza but do not order the sangria! While, very tasty, not worth the price.

Yelp
his place had good reviews so I had high standards. I called in a small cheese pizza. I was told 15 min wait. I came in late, maybe 25 minutes. The pizza was still not ready. The girl serving was extremely slow. At one point she just stopped and started at what her coworker was doing. I waited 10 minutes and started becoming impatient. But everyone was pleasant so It was ok. When i took my pizza home and ate it. WOW. so delicious. One of the best pizzas i have ever had in my life. Simply amazing. I ate the whole thing. It was very thin so I recommend getting one for yourself. Small cheese was about 17$ after tax but so worth it. Delicious

Yelp
This by far has been one of the worse experiences I have ever had in my life and I cannot fathom what happened. Me and my friends were visiting San Juan for the first time to celebrate my birthday and to experience a part of my heritage because I am half Puerto Rican. We chose to eat here because of the reviews and boy was that a huge mistake. We waited for over an hour for our pizza just for one of them to be wrong. While waiting, we got ONE tiny glass of water with no one to check on us with communication about our food. We asked about three times and was told it would be ready in 8 minutes, then 6, then 3 (mind you this after an hour already). We then asked to speak to the manager and she refused to come out and speak to us THREE TIMES because "she was busy putting pizzas in the oven". We complained and the waiter said he would give us a discount. We received another glass of water and after eating we waited another 15 minutes just to get a check. The waiter then says he can give us TEN dollars off THE ENTIRE ORDER. Which was $84. The bill being now $74 was still unacceptable and we asked to speak to the manager YET AGAIN and she refused. Mind you while this happened, another group of 5 came in and got their food correctly in about 20 minutes. Th manager never came and the waiter then said we can just leave. As if me and my friends weren't even worth speaking to. I feel disrespected and feel like it was borderline racism. I will NEVER go there again and never recommend to anyone.

Ka'Sean C.

Yelp
I cannot believe the service I received. This was by far the worst dining experience of my life. As a young black educated man, it's already hard enough getting the treatment I deserve. I am completely taken aback by this situation. I waited an hour and fifteen minutes to get my food and the server never once came to check on us. I had to ask about my food 3 times before it finally came out. This preposterous disservice has tainted my view of this establishment. The unadulterated gall is utterly unacceptable.

Yelp
Good lord...Pernil pizza with coconut flour crust. Absolutely delicious. We had to wait a while for a table, but there happened to be a big birthday which probably put a strain on things, so I doubt the wait is common. The service was great, by, I think, the owner? She was so inviting, walking us through the menu and helping us with any questions, all while serving that large birthday party at the front. The ambiance is warm and relaxing, with a funky vibe and killer music selection. But the pizza...my word, that pizza. We'd come just because we were curious about coconut-based pizza crust (we live in NYC, which is no slouch in the pizza world). When I saw Pernil marinated in Bourbon, I knew I wanted that pizza with the coconut flour crust. It was a perfect balance of sweet and savory, with a crust that had a soft crunch at the ends. We forced ourselves to stop eating it so that we could save some for later (reheats nicely, though nothing can be as flawless as that first fresh bite). I've never had anything like this pizza before, and am going to genuinely miss it back in NYC. We need that pizza back out here. Next time we come to Puerto Rico, this is 100% on our list to revisit. Thank you!

Daniel D.

Yelp
Great pizza and great service. Beat thin crust pizza in San Juan. The coconut base crust adds a special taste, combined with he fresh tomatoes and toasted almonds you will have a great combination.
google avatar

Antonio Q.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! It is definitely off the beaten path and worth the visit! It's a small restaurant and you get great service!
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
Being from NYC, I've had my fair share of good pizza, and then some, but this place managed to surprise me. Came right after 6PM and were the first to arrive. The wait wasn't too bad, and I was happy to have a beer other than medalla. The place has a nice ambience. We had two pizzas, both with coconut crust. The crust was thin, with subtle sweet notes of coconut that complemented the fillings nicely. Had one pizza with bourbon marinated Pernil, and one with fresh tomatoes and toasted almonds, which was a unique combination that worked nicely. Will go again.

Yelp
Full disclosure I did not get to try the food at Loiza 2050 so this review reflects the rudeness and ineptitude of the staff more than anything else. The past few days in Puerto Rico have been a comedy of errors trying to find restaurants that are open on Epiphany. Having learned from our experiences we called Loiza 2050. My girlfriend, who is fluent in Spanish, called and asked in Spanish "are you open now". Their reply was "No, we open at 6PM." Taking that to mean they would be open at 6, we headed down to the restaurant. Seeing that people were walking in, my girlfriend opened the door only to have it swiftly slammed in her face by one of the staff. Puzzled I opened the door again only to have the staff member tell me coldly they were closed for a private party and there was no way we could eat there. Instead of wasting our time and energy and infuriating us in the process they should have simply told us they were closed for a private event when we first called. Don't tell me you are open then slam the door in my face when I arrive. I might have been mollified on my hour drive back hope if they showed some modicum of regret but the sheer rudeness was beyond exasperating especially when we told them we drove an hour out of our way to eat at their restaurant. I hope this place burns down in a pepperoni grease fire.
google avatar

Artur E.

Yelp
Food is 5 stars. I always get the 2 vegetarian pizzas with different crusts. The crust is thin. I would say, consider pizza per person. Great spot to grab a beer and pizza with your favorite human.
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
The chorizo, pepperoni and Italian sausage pizza was delicious. I've tried a lot of pizza in my life, and this one was one of the best. The crust was very thin and cooked perfectly. My friend enjoyed the veggie pizza. I wish we could have stopped there again during my trip.
google avatar

Rita L.

Yelp
Best pizza ever!!! They even have a great selection of craft beers, as well as a whiskey bar!! We went on a Thursday night and were the only ones there for a while. Great service. They have a limited menu but everything was delicious. Two pizzas was enough for two hungry gals. It is hard to miss but if you're driving east on Loiza and come across an abandoned gas station on the right, you're there! x)
google avatar

Ramon O.

Yelp
Exaggeratedly expensive for a pizza that is super thin, although tasty but looks like a cracker, and a service in which the waitress does not have the patience nor professionalism that deserves a restaurant with those prices. After leaving, we noticed they calculated the tip by adding the tax, which is illegal.

Yelp
The best pizza in Calle Loiza. Period. My fave is tomatoes with almonds in coconut dove. To die for! Forever BIMATHE!
google avatar

Gabriel P.

Yelp
Pizza made out of premium products at an inexpensive price. Service was excellent and pizza was amazing. I've only had the opportunity to try the 4 cheese pizza with coconut dough and it was fantastic.
google avatar

Wendy P.

Yelp
This is my favorite pizza in the city. The coconut crust is amazing!

Yelp
We have been planning to go to Loiza 2050 for months, some friends hyped us to go and try their thin pizza. We finally went today. The extraction system is not sufficient, we came home smelling like cooks and our eyes were itching the whole 1 hr plus we were there. The wait for our little thin pizzas was about 40 minutes. My wife wanted to pay our drinks and go. A couple that came in about 20 minutes later, got their pizzas and finished eating before we got ours. I ordered a second drink before we knew it was not going to turn out like this, and never got it. We tried getting waitress attention without luck. Now to the pizza, good tasting, good ingredients. We asked for forks and knives: "we dont have any".
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing pizza! Love the place, is very cozy. Service was good, beer was cold and the Pizza was delicious! We ordered fresh tomatoes with roasted almonds with a thin coconut crust pizza :-O!!!!! We are definitely going back.
google avatar

Guillermo Q.

Yelp
Great thin pizzas!! Small place, just a few tables. Good foreign beers. Pizzas take it's time especially if early after opening.
google avatar

Natalie C.

Yelp
If you love thin crust pizza, this is the place for you! Ordered 4 pizzas: four cheese on coconut crust, eggplant on coconut crust, vegetable on coconut crust and the salmon and Brie pizza on wheat crust. If you're ordering for pick-up you have to order 45min in advance (bc they're that good!). Staff was attentive and thoughtful.

Matt K.

Yelp
A magical, intimate place where pizzas are made with love, and so delicious you will never forget them. My favorite place to eat in San Juan.
google avatar

Kayla O.

Yelp
Very good pizza and excellent, fast service. I especially loved hearing all my favorite bands (wilco, dr dog, etc.) playing overhead while we were there.

Jillian W.

Yelp
No salads at this small pizzeria but exceptional pizza! We ordered a pizza to share and had to get another one since it was so amazing! Nice owner and staff. You should go!!

Frisco R.

Yelp
Service was kind and attentive but slow. Pizza is overpriced for what you are getting. Its thinner than a burrito tortilla, taste is decent but not worth the money at all. Left to eat elsewhere because we were still hungry. Sorry won't be going back. Do not recommend.
