The 38 Essential Berlin Restaurants

"A Berlin institution, Lokal was among the first places in the city to embrace nose-to-tail cooking and heavy use of regional ingredients. A refreshingly simple restaurant with an unpretentious-yet-classy, seasonal bistro menu and a casual vibe, it’s still an exemplar of modern, terroir-focused German cooking after more than a decade on the scene." - Tim Forster

"It might be small and simple—conspicuously bare white walls, just a smattering of handmade wooden tables topped with flower arrangements, and a few barstools—but the updated German cuisine at Lokal is far from basic. With a commitment to local and organic ingredients, the kitchen draws on classic carnivore favorites like offal and game, making them look and taste completely unique. There are usually a couple of equally tasty dishes for vegetarians, also created using ingredients sourced from farms around Berlin . The atmosphere is generally quiet and pleasantly refined."

Lovely place to eat, nice relaxed atmosphere and the food is excellent. We been here 5 times since 2020. And we are going back for a sixth time Ofcourse.

We had a fantastic evening here. Relaxed modern environment with a menu that changes daily. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Matt looked after us extremely well and was very interested/knowledgeable in wine - which was the icing on the cake. Would go back in a heartbeat. Oh - and the food is delicious - lots of fresh flavours and beautifully presented. Definitely recommend eating here - good idea to book though as it’s quite small.

Google
Absolutely amazing food and a wonderful experience overall. Every dish was delicious and carefully prepared, with great attention to detail. The service was friendly and made us feel truly comfortable. You can tell the whole experience is thoughtfully designed to make you feel at home. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice meal in Berlin!

Google
Phenomenal. Went in not knowing what to expect, since the menu changes regularly and were absolutely blown away. We had the chicken + scallops and the pasta of the day. Both were equally as flavourful and fresh as hell. This has to be the easiest recommendation I've given for a restaurant in Berlin and sincerely doubt I'll ever regret it, if they keep it up!!

Google
The place honours its name by being very lokal! It feels that you’re in Berlin without the tourism around. The wine list is amazing, the food excellent presentation, flavour, textures! The waiter was a little distant at the beginning, but once we were having all the food and wine, he got much better! The indoor dining room looks amazing! Happy to go back!

Google
The food was wonderful, the ingredients and flavors are on point. The space on the right side (facing the bar) is a bit cramped and very hot and stuffy (even when outside is chilly). I would suggest you ask for a table on the left side of the restaurant. The service is a bit slow and cold, but not to a point is unpleasant. We ordered sparkling water, duck breast, mackerel, veal schnitzel, cheesecake, rhubarb, tap beer and cider. It was about €102 and they did tell us we can tip them up front (which is fairly common here as per our experience), but it’s always a bit awkward to tell them the exact amount you are tipping 😅 Overall, we enjoyed the food very much and would recommend this place!

Google
Overall had a lovely time at Lokal. Started with salmon and bell peppers - the salmon was the pick of the two as the bell peppers was a bit one note after a while. Mains we opted for the ginuea fowl and pasta. Pasta was a bit meh but the fowl was amazing. Excellent crispy crust and so much flavour. Got the gratin and salad on the side - was a lot of food! Probably would have skipped the pasta and salad and it would have been perfect. Menu changes often so what we had last night may not be what’s on offer! They have an English menu on the second page of the menu booklet and service was lovely and attentive.

Google
I’ve been here a few times. This last time I think the food was the best. We ate the pasta and the fried chicken. Both delicious but pasta outstanding. The cheesecake for dessert was perhaps the best dessert we had during our monthlong stay in Berlin.

Yelp
Maybe we came on a bad day or didnt order the right things from the menu - I was honestly pretty disappointed. Everything we ordered was very... green. Which is fine if that was what I was expecting, but the flavor combinations just didnt work. The pasta tasted like I was eating a garden of vegetables and lacked seasoning. The veal and fish was covered in a green sauce which didnt really work with the meat. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Fun, hidden gem. Service is amazing. Food is delicious and seasonal. Soup - 4/5 Fish - 5/5 Cheesecake - 4/5 Very old school restaurant vibes. Service was great. Menu was interesting. Food was good.

Yelp
Great restaurant in Berlin, we liked it so much we came back again during our 1 week trip. I believe the menu changes daily so it's worth multiple visits. We particularly appreciate the emphasis on delicious meats (I remember eating boar loin, lamb loin, veal liver, beef tartare, duck breast) that came with a good portion of vegetables that were excellently prepared. Tasty and healthy :)

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended in many of my usual online sources. It is a seasonal restaurant that changes their menu regularly based on availability of ingredients. Overall, I would say this is above-average dining with interesting flavor combinations, but I wasn't absolutely blown away. 1. Chicken & Merguez (pea, carrot, asparagus, shiitake, elderberry caper) 2. Rosefish (cabbage turnip, gooseberry, buttermilk, coriander) 3. Pea & cucumber soup (cress) 4. Pulled pork & scallop (bell pepper, pear, leek, bread) 5. Veal tongue (potato, radish, marjoram) 6. Codfish (broccoli, beans, melon) 7. Lamb top round (chanterelle mushroom, fennel, cucumber, blackberry) 8. Beef tenderloin (beets, bell pepper, sour cherry, marjoram) 9. Blueberry (yoghurt, granola) 10. Cheesecake (mirabelle plum, lavender)

Yelp
(4.5 stars) Dinner here is such a lovely experience. It's one of the more expensive meals in Berlin but for a celebratory meal or something like it, would definitely recommend. The fish, the steak, even the bread, not a single thing missed the mark. Just make sure to go with others so you can share a bunch of plates, they're definitely not the largest.

Yelp
My daughter and I had heard great things about Lokal, but were extremely disappointed. Apparently, we had double booked a reservation. I had no idea, but was told when we arrived. I've worked in the restaurant business for years so I felt bad about it. Not sure how it happened. We were seated in the back. The cremant my daughter ordered was flat. The mussels we shared were dry, small and sandy. She ordered the mackerel and the potatoes were raw. I ordered the boar and it was tough and dry. The vegetables were undercooked. We've had such great food in Berlin (Night Kitchen, Schnitzelei Mitte...) we were surprised that the food could veer so far from expectations / reviews. I don't want to be paranoid, but was the bad food retribution for a reservation snafu? Regardless, it might have been a one-off, but I wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
OMG! This place is excellent. The wine selection is plentiful. The menu looks limited but everything is delicious. We shared a steak, had the potatoes gratin, veggies, and all the apps. We were a group of 13 and they accommodated us beautifully. No wonder this is one of the most popular restaurants in Berlin.

Yelp
- Service: ok - Ambiance: yay - Food: yay ++ Bonus points for menu creativity, and ingredient freshness Yay finally a super tasty full on meal in Berlin. I'd been striking out the past few nights with mediocre food but Lokal feels hip, modern and fresh. - free bread (5 stars): wow warm, with a slight crisp, chewy goodness - side salad (4 stars): perfectly dressed served with amazingly fresh greens - Arctic char (5 stars): not soaked or bathed in oil or sauces, perfectly crisp char skin and tender char!! Served with perfectly cooked cauliflower + grapes + fennel + fresh beet... perfect mixture of protein and veggies Didn't have time for dessert but was glad to have found a non-tourist spot that was cute ANd delectable.

Yelp
Amazing food. And the staff was super friendly. Once of us was came in a wheelchair and they were very accommodating.

Yelp
Great restaurant with excellent food and friendly service. Good to make reservations ahead of time. They squeezed us in early for 18:00 after 19:00 they were booked solid. Outside tables are nice as well on a quiet street corner, where we saw mostly people on bicycles and very few cars. I can highly recommend Lokal!

Yelp
Make a reservation even if you are two people on a weekday! They did kindly let us eat there despite no reservation though. They said we could eat at the big communal table for about an hour. This was fine for us! With glasses of yummy white German wine, we sampled many of their dishes. Lokal is a wonderful farm-to-table spot in Berlin with a changing menu based on what's fresh. My favorite was the lamb dish - possibly the best lamb I've ever had and certainly the best lamb I've had since the Middle East. It was all incredible though. I'll be back. And with a reservation!

Yelp
Lokal gem. This restaurant does a great job with their menu and their drinks. This restaurant always has changes, so I'm not sure if you'll try what I had, but I'm sure anything they make is good. I had their "special" with the three different dishes because it was the three items I wanted to try. I had the soup, the fish, and ice cream. They were all wunderbar. The ingredients flourish at this restaurant and the flavours are deep and delicious. This restaurant is a bit of the expensive end, but highly recommend you give it a shot.

Yelp
They don't have an obvious sign outside but it's on the corner of the intersection. You can make reservations for either the table or bar, and they also had a long community table, which is where we sat. It's an intimate yet lively atmosphere, good for couples or small groups. Their menu is fairly small but changes constantly. Bread is served but a little tough and chewy. But the appetizers were delicious! Pigeon (my first time having it) was surprisingly tender and the pork belly with mashed potatoes was seasoned just right. I could've had an entree of just that. I ended up liking the appetizers more than my entree, which was a bit lacking in flavor. I got the Boar Back since I'd never had boar before. The meat was a bit tough and I had to add my own seasoning to enjoy it. The veggies were good, though. Good enough to come back since their menu changes.

Yelp
We visited on a Monday night and were lucky enough to be immediately seated despite not having reservations. It seemed to be filled with other tourists when we visited, but that may be on account of it being a Monday. The prices are relatively high for Berlin, with our mains between 18-22 euros. I loved how short and simple their menu was (helpful for an indecisive person like me) and though it was only in German, the waitress patiently explained everything to us. We got lamb ribs, zander (a freshwater fish), and steinbutt (a saltwater fish). I loved my steinbutt, which was perfectly fried, rendering the fat and flesh the way I like it. The fish was paired with roasted kohlrabi (delightful) and a selection of other vegetables. The flavors are light and fresh, very different from your typical heavy (but cheap!) German bar food. However, my parents were not so impressed, finding the food a bit bland and the serving portions small (much preferring the heavy but flavorful typical German food). So I'd say to make sure your party enjoys fine dining and fresh/light flavors before splurging here. We also got a cheesecake for dessert, which also came with strawberries and strawberry ice cream. The cheesecake was very good, very rich, but unfortunately too rich for us (I'm also lactose intolerant so I could only taste a little of it). Ultimately I wasn't blown away the way I was hoping to be (considering the rave reviews on TripAdvisor). It was good food, but comparable to many other restaurants of such pricing back home. Nonetheless, it's still a solid restaurant, especially for people who like fresh, light foods (aka people like me).

Yelp
4 & 1/2. I only really had one fancier on my first (but definitely not last) to the Great city of Berlin, but I am quite pleased and satisfied that it wound up being here. Located in one of the loveliest and classiest districts imaginable in the heart of the city, the minimalist space wound up being both chic and warm and inviting at the same time. The same could be said of the exceedingly polite and professional, but effortlessly stylish and cool staff, chiefly the native Berliner bartender whose recommendation of a German red proved spot on. The patrons were no less glamorous, given the place an irresistible aura of European elegance. My friend and I shared and appetizer of veal tongue (another of that pesky bartender's suggestions that proved sage-like) and it was strong contender for the most delicious thing I tasted in Germany. Like a more luxurious and rich corned beef, served with a miniature gardens worth of late-harvest vegetables at their absolute freshest and a grainy mustard that does pride to this most mustard-obsessed of nations. My entree of deliciously smokey and gamy wild boar rib and chop showcased the wild hog in various forms, and likewise was gloriously German, transporting you to a hunters lodge deep within the German forest. We finished our meals fully satisfied but plenty short of stuffed and headed out into the beautiful streets and canals around us, wonderfully energized and intrigued by this most fascinating of towns.

Yelp
I loved the whole experience here. We got a table inside but we wanted to sit outside instead, so they fixed that quickly for us. They served us really good bread with butter first and for starters we ordered steak tartare and potato and leek soup that was so delicious. The soup was just creamy and perfect, and my company thought that the steak tartare was as delicious. After that I ordered a pasta with pumpkin and blue cheese that was a really good combination of flavors. I can't really remember exactly what my company ate but one dish was with fish and the other with meat and they were very pleased with their food. Overall, I loved this place. Good food and wine, great service and pleasant environment. I would definitely go back if I visit Berlin again.

Yelp
Decent four stars. Nothing more and nothing less :) Great atmosphere, professional and friendly service. You will love this soft restaurant from the moment you enter it (provided you find table). So didn't I give five star review? Because of the food. Which is good, but at some point unreadable. I am big fan of taste combinations. I like experiments. Though it is not easy to synchronize tastes in a way the play like a well seasoned music orchestra. Both the fish starter and beef second were desynchronized with regard to taste. Beef tartare was well balanced, still there were just too many flavors. Aperol Spritz was also far from excellent. Too much Aperol, decarbonated sparkling sekt and no orange, only lemon. It made the refreshing dring simply too sour. I will come back to see if there is any progress, as the place is extremely nice and lively. Though I would found on better luck with the menu.

Yelp
The most incredible restaurant you can find in Berlin. Very original menu that changes on a daily basis. I am a very big fan of steak tartare and was lucky enough to find it on the menu but the surprise that it was made from veal. It was one of the best I ever had in my life (if not the best.) The meat was so fresh and garnished with an exquisite variety of mushrooms, water crest and some other stuff that I couldn't figure. Really, an incredible plate. After that I got venison which was also phenomenal. Food portions are just right. The price is also reasonable. This place serves high-end quality food; fresh and very elegantly presented. You'd be under €50 without alcohol for one person.

Yelp
A great place. Ambience was bustling and cosy. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was creative with unique combinations that were also surprisingly harmonious. Eat here if you can.

Yelp
We weren't a huge crowd for the dinner but most of those who came were serious gourmet foodies - and the Lokal was pretty much the sort of place us gourmets like. The place specialises in fresh local produce from the region and to prove it, they have a different menu every day to match the farmers' daily offerings. Taste-wise, our expectations have been mostly fullfilled. By this I mean that some of the dishes were truly excellent but some also did lack a bit of flavour. For example, the freshly-baked bread was pretty good but the dip that came with it was somewhat bland - but freshly made. For starters, Sylvia had the tartare and she thought a bit more flavour may have been possible. For her main dish, she was really pleasantly surprised. It was different types of Schweinbauch that has been bedded on local fancy vegetables such as pastinakes and topinbar - and it was all very yummy. The dish sizes were pretty huge so most people had to skip dessert. The winelist had a nice selection but somewhat pricey. At least they didn't give people a headache, unlike some other wines. The restaurant was fully booked and everyone from the Berlin Dinner Club liked the atmosphere and their food. Some said they will come back again to try other interesting dishes such as the pigeon, which I suppose they shoot when they see them flying over Berlin/Brandenburg. Next time, please note that one can also ask for special dishes from the kitchen. Next time.

Yelp
Really sweet restaurant. Nice bread to start with herbed butter - always love getting butter with bread. Wine recommendations were on point. The appetizers and mains we had were simply just....good (lamb, pasta and pork) but the German cheesecake was the star and service was fantastic!
google avatar

Koni M.

Yelp
farm-to-table at its best located in the heart of some of berlins trendiest eats, lokal offers a humble yet incredibly tasty menu. they offer a bar menu and a table menu so make sure to pay attention to the chalk board so you don't miss anything delicious ! the vibe is definitely cosy but it's not fancy at all since it's located in Mitte. go on an empty stomach and be prepared to eat well

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday night and it was packed. We walked up the steps in this primarily residential neighborhood to this softly lit, very warm and cozy, simple, but sophisticated interior with a smile from the bartender. As we waited a few minutes for our table, he told us about how the menu changed daily based on the local ingredients available, so each time we came was a unique experience. Thoughout the night, we had great service (the servers speak wonderful English, to boot), and we ordered a bottle of wine, and some starters (potato leek soup) and then the entrees came out - whole trout, pork and local vegetables, and some other beautifully prepared vegetable dishes. Magnificent meal. I would go into more depth about the dishes, but by the time you read this, it'll be some other lovely dish you're dining on. Don't think twice about going. You'll have a wonderful experience at Lokal, especially if you're looking for an alternative to traditional German food.

Yelp
Searching for a cool place for dinner on a Saturday night -- this was it! Lokal was delicious and all the food looked great! Very busy on the weekend, definitely recommend a reservation. The bread they brought at the beginning of the meal was amazing and their garlic herb butter spread was addicting. They change their menu daily so I am desperate to go back and try something else. This time I got a lamb, parsnip and broccoli plate (parsnips were a little too hard - but they warn you on their menu that all vegetables aren't well-done), carrot soup and a tagliatelle pasta dish with loads of tasty shredded cheese. Interior is hip and full of wooden tables and white decor which is very aesthetically pleasing. Staff was all very nice and our waitress (she had tattooed arms) was so friendly and knowledgeable and gave us the perfect wine recommendation. Loved it!

Yelp
Amazing and creative selection of locally grown foods. Expensive but worth the visit. The Moscow mule was the best I've had, thanks to the local ginger beer. Service was a bit slow, but it was the end of the evening and we didn't have reservations., so no complaints.
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
This was probably the best restaurant we went to in Berlin. It's got a nordic rustic theme, simple wooden tables, very tasteful. The staff were super nice, offering us a place at the bar (we hadn't booked) and rushing over when a booking didn't show to offer us a table. Bringing over the bottle so we could try wines before choosing which one to have. Just good peeps. And the food was great too. The lamb was good but I preferred the veggie main with millet and beets and goats cream cheese. Definitely get that!
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
After reading the reviews, I was excited to try out this place. We were fortunate to be seated (since we are "early" eaters). Our apps/starters were very good. I was excited that we started off well. Then I got my sturgeon and found it to be a little undercooked and tough. Also, I found it to be underseasoned.

Yelp
By far, the best meal my husband and I have had in Berlin! Both our tastes are very different when it comes to food but we both agree that our dinner at Lokal was superb! We arrived to a full restaurant but there was a place for two at the bar. The bartender took great care of us and suggested the perfect wine pairing to my meal. I had the rainbow trout and my hubby had a beef dish for appetizers and we shared a wonderful pasta main dish. Menu seems to change everyday due to availability of the local and fresh ingredients. We hope to have another meal there before leaving this beautiful city.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place out since last year and finally decided it was the perfect spot to host a mini college reunion dinner last weekend. We had friends visiting Berlin from Hamburg and London, I wanted to dispel their preconceptions of German food and also have an intimate relaxed atmosphere, where we could all catch up and enjoy ourselves. Lokal was just that. Candlelit and not too overcrowded, the noise level was a low thrum of conversation from our neighbouring tables. I loved the simplicity of the decor. Understately chic in white. As the name suggests, not only is the food cooked with locally sourced ingredients grown within the region, but also the furniture is made from locally sourced materials. For a busy Saturday service, I found the staff to be very attentive. The menu was all in German, and although my German is very good, I hadn't heard of some of the ingredients! So they kindly assisted us with some of the more trickier ingredients. I love the fact that the menu changes every week according to what is in season and available. Last week's was spectacularly autumnal, with much-loved chantarelle mushrooms, turnips, beets and absolutely no pumpkins in sight! (those of you in the know, will get my reference). They catered well for veggies, offering more than one option on the menu. Despite our party being the largest in the restaurant, our first course arrived in no time at all. The first sign that everyone unanimously loved their meals was the contented silence that fell across our table as we munched on. I had gone for the brie salad, with beets, poached pear, kohlrabi and beets. My other half went for trio of pork fillet, pork aspic and pork belly, which was gone before I could even pinch a morsel to try! Another friend had Pike (which we don't really eat in the UK). For mains, the most popular choices amongst us were the roast veal, wild boar and vegetarian pasta dish. The portions were very generous, so much so I couldn't finish the second piece of my wild boar and offered it to the boy but he was also stuffed. I loved how all the veggie accompaniements complemented the flavours in my dish. Unfortunately, I had no room for dessert so can't comment on that. Alas, the restaurant lighting was too dim to provide any decent photos of the food but I can assure you each and every plate was beautifully presented to a very high standard. Overall I would describe the restaurant as modern German - offering hearty seasonal local food. It's high end without the pretentiousness. Definitely worth booking in advance if you're visiting Berlin and in Mitte!

Yelp
We went a family of five for dinner on a Monday night after booking in advance. The place was full but we were sited imidiatly.... We ordered all the first course (5) They came in about 8 minutes. They were all all good. They serve very good bread and butter too, and keep on serving it if you finish it... Ambiance is good but unfortiunately They dont play Música at all in the house. We ordered the entrecote and fish for main course. They arrived on time but one steak was cold, and all fish were not cooked inside so we had to return to the kitchen. The were very polite and made a whole New ones for us. This time it was really great. When we waited for the New main courses to arrive they treated us with curtesy wine and beer. This was really a surprise and shows the true quality of this fine restaurant. For desert we ordered the cheese cake and the crepe both deliciuse. 5 first course 5 main courses, a beer, White wine 2 glasses, cheese cake, and 2 Espereso all together Euro 200.00 A bit pricy but all in all a very good experience.

Yelp
Our experience here was a pretty big letdown. For Berlin, the prices are pretty high so I expected a fine dining experience, but they seriously missed the mark in several areas. My wife and I are serious foodies... we've eaten at great restaurants all over the world and Lokal is certainly not one of them. This might have been the only time I've left a restaurant without tipping. Service was horrendous. The guy working the front of the house was very friendly and attentive, but out waitress was absolutely terrible. She never once asked us how we were doing or how we liked the food, and I had to waive her down on multiple occasions to get her attention. After finally getting her attention and ordering another bottle of water, she brought it over a few minutes later and just slid it across our table without saying a word or bothering to fill our glasses. My wife had apple/pumpkin soup and halibut. The soup was ok, but the halibut was gross. They didn't butcher it correctly: it still had the bloodline and chunks of cartilage... far from appetizing. On top of that, it was completely raw. I flagged down the waitress to see if they could cook it more, which is when she said they cook all their food "medium". 1) this fish was completely raw and not even close to medium, 2) I disagree that halibut should be cooked medium anyway. She ended up sending it back to be cooked more, but it still was a poor cut of fish. I got the "potato" (green salad with potato salad in the center) and the wild deer. They were both pretty great actually. The only highlight of the night. My deer was also cooked rare, which was actually fine with me, but it's clear the cook doesn't understand how to cook meat correctly. Lastly, our desert was inedible. It was rose ice cream on an oat cake thing. The ice cream was fine, but the oat cake was like eating cardboard. It was hard as a rock (not intentionally like granola), and sucked all moisture out of my mouth. It was one of the worst desserts I've ever had at a restaurant. This was our big dinner out while visiting Berlin and it was a letdown. I love the concept, but they need some serious polishing to be even a mid-tier restaurant in my book.

Yelp
I had an amazing experience at Lokal! Sat at the bar by myself for dinner but quickly made friends. The staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and speak amazing English. Their selection of local German wine adds perfect pairing to whatever your having to eat. Also their love of local food culture is very apparent and helpful when deciding what to chow. They are very generous sampling the wines. They offer fresh made bread and delish salted whipped butter. I had the smoked venison for a starter and the veal for a main. Servings are very big and filling. Presentation is spot on. They take pride in what they put on the plate and it shines through with every bite. I'll be heading back for sure! Well played Lokal!!

Robert K.

Yelp
Off the beaten path. This is your place if you want to feel like a local. (Not to mention a number of restaurants close by.) As usual service was friendly and efficient with lots of help for the non-German speakers. Food is locally sourced and expertly prepared. I just can't say enough good about this place. Thank you!

Yelp
An amazing restaurant in Berlin, the staff was amazing very very nice and the food was good. The restaurant look chic, the downside is the is VERY VERY expensive for Berlin. We went there because everything else was fully booked, we waited a while and then they found for us some room at the bar. We had a great time, the food was original, do not try the desserts! (They really took originality to the next level).

Yelp
This was the best meal I had in Germany, hands down. 10/10 recommend! Given the great reviews on several blogs, including Yelp, we arrived at the restaurants right when they opened! Note that most Germans eat later in the evening, so you'll definitely be safe in getting a seat if you go early. The shop is easy to miss/walk past as it is on the corner of two streets and the signage is pretty high up (we used google maps and walked past it twice). Keep your eyes peeled!! But the ambiance and decor of the place is so warm and intimate, while still chic and classy. Candles on the table, tables and seats made from wood, and dim low lights. I loved it!! Servers were attentive and friendly, no credit to us being admiring foreigners trying to take pics. The food. Wow, the food I could go on and on how the lamb melted in our mouths or how the steak tartar's flavor was mind blowing or how the lamb was bigger than our face, BUT I won't because the unique trait of Lokal is their menu changes with the seasons and what produce/meat is currently fresh. Although I will say, the complimentary bread and butter was great - the bread was soft and paired with a salted whipped butter. However, in case the you go there at the end of September and the menu is still the same, here's what I recommend: - Steak Tartar - Lamb - Duck (this was the star of our dinner) - Pumpkin soup (pumpkin was in season at this time) - Watermelon burrata

Lokal. 17 May 20017 On our stay in Berlin we tried multiple German style restaurants. On our last night we ate at Lokal. We shared the Wurst starter which consisted of different plays on wild boar including the wurst, pate, smoked sausage and terrine. We had the pasta with vegetables and the pork for main courses. All the food was delicious and each was served with an accompanying vegetable. To be aware some were preserved and the rest were only cooked slightly so they retained some crispness. The service was prompt and courteous. The menu was in both English and German but still required some explanation. The food seems to be going in the direction of fresh food using standard themes prepared in an upscale way. We found it refreshing after having a couple of good meals cooked in the classical German way

Yelp
We're searching for a while for a local restaurant and came across Lokal so we decided to check it out. Food is very good, staff is very friendly, great atmosphere, awesome vibe. Would highly recommend it!!!

Yelp
This restaurant is one of those that try a big TOO much. Everything is under seasoned and under cooked. The beets and vegetables was almost raw and way to crunchy. Beets and root vegetables need to be cooked to bring out the sweetness and flavor properly. Do it right or don't do it at all.

Yelp
Quaint restaurant in Mitte. Modern menu. Good service. Good drinks. Delicious food. The best butter I have ever had in my life. Highly recommended

Yelp
This was an unbelievable find! Everything about this restaurant is top notch. The creativity of adding fresh fruits and vegetables to dishes topped anything I have experienced. Strawberries and lamb? Really? Brilliant! The chef has a real flash of brilliance. Will happily return. This was Michelin star meal at non Michelin prices (minus the amuse bouches and fanfare). Recommend wild boar dishes without reservation. Lamb roast spectacular. Will be back!

Yelp
Very good quality of food. Cozy atmosphere. Sometimes the staff could smile a bit more and some nice background music would be cool too.

Yelp
We made a reservation for Wednesday dinner because these type of restaurants can get busy and can be hard to get a table. We were the first group to arrive that evening, with a 6pm reservation. We chose to sit outside but eventually moved inside because there were bugs flying around near where we were sitting. There was no English menu so our waitress verbally translated the entire menu for us, which was very nice but made deciding what to order a bit tough. The service was good, we were able to get our drinks and food fairly quickly. However, I was given the wrong drink (may be due to the language barrier?) but I just went with it. I ordered the steak, well done, since I don't like too much blood in my steak. I wasn't impressed, since the steak ended up being very dry without much flavor. The potato gratin was also ok, nothing special. I tried one bite and didn't touch it again. For dessert, I ordered that cheesecake, and THAT was amazing, probably one of the best I have ever had! It was light, but very flavorful, and the ice cream complemented the cheesecake very well too. Overall, I would give 1 or 2 stars for main course/side dish, 4 for service, and 5 for dessert.

Yelp
The place was packed but we lucked out were able to get a seat outside. The menu is limited and organized from vegan to meatatarian so it was easy for non-German speakers to know where to start. The staff was helpful and helped with the questions we had about the food. In the end the food was amazing. I'll be back, but this time with a reservation.

Yelp
Be sure and read the menu before you make a reservation. Sometimes chefs just try to hard to be different. This meal was a major disappointment- the only thing we liked was the bread. Service was fine and it was nice to be in a neighborhood and away from the tourist areas. Still didn't like the food though.

Yelp
We were lucky to be seated without reservations because it is apparently very popular. The maitre de was super kind to translate the German menu word for word! I felt badly he did that but he didn't complain. The food was very good. The beet soup was pretty amazing. So was the zucchini salad. My chicken dish was superb. The pork dishes were juicy and tender with a medley of summer vegetables. Unfortunately my brother's sturgeon was a tad undercooked with some tough flesh at spots. We skipped dessert. Nice place.

Yelp
The duck was superb and the service was excellent. Our server recommended a stellar bottle of Italian wine and was an incredibly gracious host. Their cheesecake is likely the best I've had. So great I fact that I was inclined to craft her a ring from the aluminum wrapping from the wine bottle. Marry me?

Yelp
Nice, cozy atmosphere (except if you don't like community seating), very nice staff, very very mediocre food. Ranged from bland to shrill, tastewise. Service, portions, pricing all fine. Sorry to say, but there's not much here to write about. Not that I'll be going back, but guys could you please clean the clear glass lampshades hanging over the tables? They look like they haven't been touched in months.
