The 28 Essential Prague Restaurants

"Local hospitality group Ambiente (Café Savoy, Eska) was early to elevating the concept of a traditional Czech beer hall with Lokál. There are many Lokáls around the city now (of varying shapes and sizes), but they all boast the same bustling vibe and ornate-yet-abstract backlit wood carvings. Locals come almost exclusively for post-work drinks, not meals, but it’s a great first stop for visitors to try iconic Czech eats (go for the pickled Camembert and some goulash) while sipping on a crisp pilsner. This chain is all about customer volume, so if you didn’t make a reservation ahead of time during peak hours, expect to be standing along the wall or tucked under a windowsill outside." - Dan Clapson

An absolute gem! This is one of those truly local places where you can experience real Czech culture, not just a tourist version of it. Even though it’s right in the city centre, it’s filled mostly with locals, which says a lot. The food was excellent, the beer outstanding (fresh and perfectly poured), and the whole atmosphere very authentic and lively. You really feel part of the local scene here. I’m not sure if they have an English menu or if the staff speak English, as I was there with Czech friends, but honestly, it wouldn’t matter. The experience, the vibe, and the quality make it all worth it. ⭐️ 5 stars! Great local food, amazing beer, and a truly authentic Prague atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I got the pork belly with the braised cabbage. I was so shocked by how good this was! Cabbages were def the star of the show, just perfectly acidic and balanced the flavor of the entire dish. Staff was kind too. Left my umbrella, thankfully it didn’t get lost. One of the cheaper places I went to in Prague. They have lots of seats and free post cards too. I quite like the rustic aesthetic they have going on.

Stopped in mid-day for cider and alcohol-free beer. Both were good! Quick, friendly service. Heads up if you’re traveling with kids that the men’s restroom features many photos of nude/topless women. Women’s bathroom was fine!

Unique Czech food experience. We sat in the lower level, the only seats left for dinner around 8:30 pm. The brewery is located downstairs as well — amazing beer, surprisingly good wine, and food that was next-level delicious compared to what we naively expected from simple national dishes. The flavor profiles were spectacular. The beef goulash and pork schnitzel were out of this world, as were the pickled cheese appetizer and the three sausages. A must-try in Prague.

This is a great place for authentic Czech food and a local atmosphere. I’ve been several times when friends have been in town. The last time I went it was pretty crowded which is understandable since it’s in such a good location. We had to wait a bit for a table and for service but not too bad. We got the fried cheese and Svickova. The Svickova was the way to go. Of course the best part was the nice ice cold beer.

It’s a shame that this restaurant is mistakenly listed as a lodging establishment, but perhaps that says something about the owners — they’re clearly too busy keeping things real and focusing on the food and drinks. We dropped in at lunchtime to find the place packed, with a waiting list already going. Fortunately, the line moved quickly, and we were able to enjoy a beer at the bar while waiting. Their draft Pilsner Urquell was fabulous, and the food didn’t disappoint either. The standout was the beef tartar, a brilliant marriage of tender beef and crispy fried bread — bursting with flavour and offering a delightful contrast of soft and crunchy textures. Worth every star this place has, and highly recommended for anyone exploring the other side of the Charles Bridge looking for an authentic Czech eatery.

Great beers!! Great sausages. Good local grub. Make sure you write your name down on the list in the hallway if you are waiting for a table. Its a super popular place :-)

The restaurant truly saved our culinary experience in Prague. Making a reservation was easy—and definitely recommended. The service was absolutely excellent. The food was outstanding and very delicious. The prices were fair and well above typical tourist traps. The place is cozy but quite noisy. Highly recommended!
