My criteria for good Mexican restaurant is pretty simple... Good food, good service, and good margaritas at a fair price. Unfortunately, this business met none of the criteria. As a La Costa resident, I was really looking forward to the opening of Lola 55 in the Beacons shopping center. First, I have to say how disappointed I was with their house Margarita. I prefer margaritas that are lime-based and Lola's margarita was grapefruit based. I'm not a fan of grapefruit juice... Just way too bitter for me. Unfortunately, there were no other options for other margaritas. Failure #1!
I then opted for a cosmopolitan which ultimately tasted like fruit flavored High-C drink. Horrible!
As mentioned, in other reviews, you have to order from a counter. I had heard much to do about their tacos and ordered several varieties to include fish, chicken, Carne, Asada, and Carnitas. Although the tacos came out looking beautiful on the plate, they were cold and lacked any flavor. The chicken taco was way too salty and I ended up not finishing any of the food I ordered. Failure #2!
I let the staff know how disappointed I was with the quality of food, despite this feedback , there was no offer to bring out a new taco or take the food off of the bill. The check came out in the amount of $85... failure #3!
Forgot to mention that the restaurant does not serve chips and salsa... a fact that left me scratching my head! Overall, I was incredibly disappointed and will not be back as there are way too many great taco places in town that serve good margaritas at a fair price. Adios Lolas... I won't be back.
