"Lola chefs Keith and Nealy Frentz have been upping the culinary bar in Covington for more than a decade, creating game-changing New Louisiana fare at this stylish downtown train depot-turned-restaurant. At lunch, tuck into homespun baked goods and from-scratch platters, including a swell chicken salad croissant sandwich. For dinner, expect a white tablecloth setting with entree options like seared U 10 scallops with saffron risotto and bacon braised spinach," - Beth D'Addono

Visited Lola's for the first time today and here is the run down- Located in an Old Railroad Station with Clean and Modern Details (refurbished), well kept dining area, indoor , outdoor and railroad seating, no I am not kidding, you can literally eat in the restaurant's extended outdoor which is apart of the old downtown Covington Railroad station in air conditioning. You will need to order at the counter/ bar for food and drinks and then your number is given and food is delivered to your table. Lola's offers wine, beer and a bar at the counter order area. The rail cart seating was way too cool for me not to give them 5 stars and its decorated, clean and the food daily specials are delicious. Great for a first try or a once in a while visit. Not seated for the partying environment. ⭐️

It’s always a good time at Lola’s! Food is delicious and a good size. My favorite dishes are hands down the red beans and rice, split pea hog ham soup and now their spicy fried chicken! The batter was flavored in true Louisiana style! The fries were delicious and the crumble on top should be sold by the jar. Delicious!

We absolutely enjoyed ourselves at a drag brunch event at Lola's. The menu was limited to the event, but the food was amazing, The atmosphere fabulous, and the staff was tremendous. I have photos of the dishes but don't recall the names.

So glad we finally decided to give this a try! It was above our expectations! The vibe is very laid back and the staff are super friendly. I was shocked at the size of the portions we received, most restaurants of this style give tinny portions, Lola loads your plate! Perfect date night spot or nice dinner with friends. 100% will be back.

The 4 of us showed up without reservations and we were told we could either sit at the bar or outside, even though there were plenty of tables in the restaurant. We chose outside since it was a nice night. We started with Watermelon and Cantelope Martinis. For apps we got Brussels Sprouts and Tuna Tartare...both excellent. For main course we got Heirloom Tomatoes Salad and Grilled Peaches Salad, also delicious. Service was great as well. Only complaint we had was the amount of flies that were outside. Even though they had two fans going, it didn't help. The flies were very hungry and we were waving our hands while eating to keep them away. We let the server know and to let the manager know there were solutions to fixing the issue. Especially when you are forking out over $100 per couple for dinner, who wants to swat flies while eating. If you want to eat here, please make reservations ahead of time. Wish we would have known that.

It was the best gumbo, that I tasted while visiting with friends in NOLA. I had the Muffuletta like sandwich it was good. I hate when people go on about the fires, but I must, a little bit of truffle oil goes a long way and perfectly cooked. Service was outstanding.

Yelp
Never been dissatisfied with this place. Excellent very time. My wife is a professional chef and this is one of her favorites too. I have yet to have a better po-boy anywhere. Had the shrimp po-boy today. Awesome! Love the atmosphere too!!

Yelp
Superb sandwiches on homemade bread. BEST sandwich EVER!!!! Memorable munchies. Appetizers, sides, and drinks ALL complimented the main event!

Camly T.

Yelp
Incredible service, the folks there were welcoming and knew how to help our groups needs. The red beans and cornbread was good. The Lola salad and strawberry lemonade stood out. I'd come back here my next time in Covington.

Yelp
Food quality and quantity great. Reasonably quick. Service great. Over priced menu items.

Yelp
We came for lunch a little after the opened at 11:30 on a Thursday morning. Around 12 they got really busy but the service still seemed quick. There was ample seating as there is a main building and some train cars they converted as well as patio seating. We ordered from the counter and they brought the food to our table quickly after. The portions are huge which is good considering it's a little more on the expensive side for a sandwich (~$15-20). We got the Cuban, club and shrimp salad and a side of truffle Parmesan fries. The fries are the shoestring type. Delicious with a homemade sauce similar to a remoulade sauce. We also got the hummingbird cake.

Collin G.

Yelp
From the moment we walked in it is a old timey but modern look to a quality restaurant. We started with the Poutine and maybe the best gravy I've had. Wife had the burger and I had the lasagna. Lasagna perfectly cooked crisp cheese edges that made the whole thing just one perfect bite. Burger has around 10 flavors that you would never expect to go good together and when I say I need to figure out the recipe to make this at home I am serious. We finished the meal with like icebox pie and the pop tart. Whatever the baker did to those desserts even being heated up for service they were absolutely perfect. Amazing texture on the pie, amazing flavor for both and the way the pop tart is crunchy but melts in your mouth is great. For 6 things it wasn't expensive at all and the servers make sure you are taken care of. Also recommend the focaccia bread.

Yelp
We have been eating YEES Delicious dishes for 21 years! They never disappoint, everything we have eaten is always so good and their generous portions make for delicious leftovers the following days . Try it, I believe you will love it! Enjoy! Super Nice and Friendly Staff! We always enjoy eating in the calm and relaxed setting of their restaurant.

Laura R.

Yelp
Looked forward to experiencing their great looking menu. Unfortunately, their hours are limited, and I wasn't in town on the weekends. Hard to give a star rating for a place I only was able to see the menu. Next time I am in town, I will make it a priority to taste the food!

Mandy M.

Yelp
The food was fantastic as was the service. I had the smash burger & truffle fries and my hubs has the Korean flank steak. Both were cooked to perfection and so tasty!! Is best to make a reservation!

Christopher R.

Yelp
Everything is awesome!!! I highly recommend!!! Please try it on your own Today GEAUX

Yelp
Suggestion for management: repurpose the 2 top along the wall between the bar and kitchen door. I have been seated at this table twice (with reservations) and it sucks to sit at. Service was good, food is good, but this shouldn't be a spot for guests IMO. Non stop pacing from the manager guy and bus staff. Not to mention the dude bussing tables basically perches behind this table to look around the dining room. Not his fault, but it's just not a good experience for a place serving $42 entrees. You can't relax at this table and I just wanted to leave asap. Perhaps better off as a water/beverage/storage station. The times I've sat in the train car were much more enjoyable. Just food for thought good luck

Jeremy T.

Yelp
My daughter wanted to have a father/daughter date night so we tried Lola and it didn't disappoint. She got the burger and she ordered me the deviled eggs with oysters to start and the shrimp dish for dinnner, both were amazing. We were lucky enough to be seated in the old trolley/train caboose that made the experience even more enjoyable.

Warren V.

Yelp
Best burger I've had in forever! A little heavy on the truffles on the fries, but super experience

April A.

Yelp
Such a delight!! When you walk up -go left- into the brick building to order at the counter. I got confused, doesn't take much.... Once you order you can pick either the Streetcar or the main building to eat. I chose the super cool streetcar of course! The food is superb. We ate there for lunch- very casual. I have the best company for all my dinner dates, so that always adds to the atmosphere :)

Pamela F.

Yelp
Very busy. Wonderful food and great unique choices. Great service. Pricey. Parking is difficult.

Maria L.

Yelp
Wasn't planning on dinner but went in for a Frose, saw the nights specials and I was sold. We had a fresh watermelon mint martini that was obviously freshly "squeezed". For dinner we had a Tuna poke bowl and a Lola double. The best hamburger I've ever had. It was 2 thin Pattie's w bacon jam, pimento cheese, and special sauce. It was massive so I took it apart to save half. It came with Lola's famous truffle fries. Perfection. When we left we took half the burger, fries and added a Friday special Donut and the best Frose'. Just a great meal. Wish we could have eaten outside but it wasn't available . Of course we'll be back.

Ashlee D.

Yelp
Cuban sandwich was dry and the fries were cold. Hummingbird cake was excellent. Service was great. Ambiance was open and airy however packed at lunch and very loud. Order line cutting tables is unusual and distracting.

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant. Nice vibe and ambiance. Service was great. Food was impeccable. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Highly recommend.

Mike J.

Yelp
My wife and I recently went here for a date night. We loved it. Food was delicious and the staff was amazing. Highly recommended!

Darnell E.

Yelp
We were happy to enjoy delicious food and cocktails Lola is known to deliver. We were seated in the dining car that provided a unique and delightful experience. Love this place!

Lisa S.

Yelp
A must every time I visit the area! Outstanding food and atmosphere for both lunch and dinner! Fast service that never disappoints.

Deborah M.

Yelp
Have not had this great of food in quite some time. Literally. EVERYTHING was good. I got the scallops, which were cooked perfectly and so fresh. My boyfriend got the steak, which was outrageously tender and the sauce was just incredible! But my sister got the star of the show.. PORK PICATTA. Holy WOW, the best picatta I have ever had. I have ZERO complaints and cannot wait to go back. Service was great too.

Caitlin P.

Yelp
I LOVE LOLA. I visited Lola on a pretty regular basis for over three years while working in downtown Covington....and by regular basis I mean...almost once a week for 3 years. So, I feel its probably time I finally weighed. I 100% recommend Lola 100% of the time someone asks me where they should get lunch in downtown Covington. My meal suggestion --- Try the soups. Trust me. They are delicious. Especially the gumbo. I know - its sacrilege to love anyone's gumbo but your mothers - but this is really good gumbo. Every single soup I've had at Lola has been DELICIOUS. Even those soups that you look at and think, "I am not sure I'm going to like this but I'm really feeling soup today," are THE BOMB. And even those days where you're thinking "who on earth would eat soup in this weather" you'll be glad you tried the soup. So, just trust me and try the damn soup. Also highly recommend the Chicken Salad and Tuna Salad ON ANYTHING. Get it in a sandwhich, on top of a salad, or just get a scoop and eat it with a spoon. I WISH I KNEW THAT DAMN TUNA SALAD RECIPE. Would pay $$$ for the tuna fish salad recipe. If you know someone, hook me up. The chinese chopped salad is also highly recommended, but comes in third on my order of Lola "favorites." The red beans are also pretty amazing. But you know, only available on Monday and I can't just be restricted to having Lola for lunch on Mondays.... BUT ITS REALLY ALL ABOUT THE FOCACCIA BREAD...dusted with just the right amount of salt. Chewy. Deliciousness. This is starting to get out of hand for a restaurant review. But.... YOU SHOULD GO SEE WHAT ALL THE HYPE IS ABOUT.

Renee N.

Yelp
Best burger ever hands down. I don't hardly eat hamburgers since they all seem to taste the same to me and I don't like eating so many calories in one sitting but this is worth every calorie.

Mary E.

Yelp
Good food. Quick service. Not a quiet spot so if you want intimate this is not the place, but I am a fan of the noisy bustling restaurants, that means they are DOING SOMETHING RIGHT!

Samantha B.

Yelp
Always an amazing meal, never disappoints from the app to dessert! Such a cute place with delicious food and cocktails! Come here every chance I get!

Ann M.

Yelp
Enjoy their restaurant but also love their special stuff you can buy when they make the items such as their Lasagna etc. cakes too But the Lasagna is my favorite of anywhere.

larry b.

Yelp
I took my grandson to eat here today and it was right at closing time and they were almost indignant that we actually showed up. I mentioned it to Electrician she Norred me and obviously I will not be coming back to this restaurant I don't give a damn how good their food is.

Patrick C.

Yelp
I use to love going here but not any more. Way over priced and the food is average at best. I picked up lunch from here last week and got the Fish Sandwich special for $20. It was served on a frozen French bread that they did not toast and was dry. The portion of fish I was given could be no more than 4 or 5oz if that. The Asian slaw was old , wilted and watery with no flavor. the fries were good and hands down the best thing about my lunch. $8 for a 2oz potion of pimento cheese with a few crackers was a complete joke. Then to top off being price gouged a $5 misc tax was added to my Bill. Will never go back here. Now I know why people are saying stay away as it is very over priced for very pitiful portions of food.

Kate P.

Yelp
Always had a wonderful date night here!! Delicious food every time and great service by Blake!!

Zhaoyi L.

Yelp
My colleague and I stopped by this place for a quick work lunch. The atmosphere was definitely amazing. Since we were not there during the typical lunchtime, we didn't wait so long (only three or four people were ahead of us). I had the "COBB"-OOSE salad (no bacon). It was quick and delicious! The price was reasonable considering the good portion my salad came with. I was really satisfied with this place. Although I am not familiar with this area, I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a quick lunch place.

Brittany B.

Yelp
One of my favorite places on the Northshore. We always bring friends here when they visit. We've tried so many things on the menu, and we haven't been disappointed in any dish. The cocktails are great too, especially the fresh fruit martinis. Perfect date night spot.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Can't say enough about this place. So much food, my husband and I split this delicious sandwich. Counter service ordering. The food is so good. Corn and crab bisque was AMAZING! The service was excellent. In an old train station, giving this restaurant all the charm. Went for lunch, and got our food in less than 10 minutes. Can't wait to go back and save space for dessert. Rail car is available for rent for private parties, looks like such a great space.

Collin L.

Yelp
The BEST lunch in Covington. Love the chicken sandwich and muffaletta. Amazing truffle fries.

Emily M.

Yelp
Good foods, friendly staffs and great desserts been coming here couple times now, haven't have bad experience yet

JK L.

Yelp
I am wondering if some of these great reviews are fake. One wrote about the great soup selections. Funny the day I went, the only soup selection was gumbo! I was not thrilled with the walk up service. The focaccia bread was one crumbly mess! Potato salad was soaked in mayo and no flavor. Where were the boiled eggs? Yuck. Sorry, $17 for a messy sandwich is too much money. There was more bread than anything.

Catherine A.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and try to get here, lunch or dinner ( dinner only on Friday & Saturday nights for now)... absolutely nothing here is disappointing. Extremely unique southern inspire dishes from a top-notch chef at the helm.

Nancy S.

Yelp
One of my favorite places for lunch. Great ambience, food and staff

Terri D.

Yelp
Always a treat to have lunch here. The only reason why I gave it a 4 is because the day we went the service was a bit scattered. We had to ask for spoons for our soup which took a couple of minutes. But the food itself always makes the 5 star rating!

Sarah G.

Yelp
I've been a HUGE fan of Lola since my first bite of the Bostonian back in 2006. I ventured here throughout high school, on breaks in college, and when I'm home visiting from Houston. Their soups are to die for, the homemade bread is impeccable, and the deserts are wonderful. If you get in at 11, you're gold for beating the lunch rush. The addition of the train car for seating helps when it's quite busy. My mom's company does a lot of business lunches with them, and their catering side is top notch as well. (Had we gone with a place where we had to cater food for my reception, they were my first pick for my wedding.) Lola is always at the top of my "must visit" places when I'm in town, and I can't rave enough about this gem in Covington.

Teresa R.

Yelp
Excellent Menú and daily specials. Food is great, fresh. Also a good selection of soups. Love it

Linda J.

Yelp
Went here for lunch. Very good! The Parmesan truffle fries were amazing. Husband had the Cubano. Excellent flavor and homemade pickles. Grilled cheese so good! Cool atmosphere.

Cynthia W.

Yelp
Every bite of every dish was outstanding! I adore the atmosphere and the 3 different areas for dining; outdoors, in the train car, or inside the building. Service was perfect. Glad I went early enough in the evening to get in without a reservation.

Julia M.

Yelp
Everything about this restaurant is amazing: the service, the drinks, the food and the ambience. I would highly recommend the crawfish boudin appetizer and blackberry basil drink but you honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Will definitely be back the next time I'm in town.

Hailey W.

Yelp
I hadn't heard of this place, but my friend recommended we go. It's in the old train station apparently and there's an old train car outside. We went for dinner which is only from 5-9:30 pm. The inside is lovely; I love the decor. It's very small and it's best to get reservations for dinner. Some of the staff was very friendly, like the bartender and our wonderful server, Rachel. This is an expensive place. Tablecloths and candlelight so you get the full experience of fine dining. Lol. There are a lot of interesting dishes on the menu and I had a hard time deciding. I finally picked the Crawfish Cakes($16 for an appetizer) and my friend chose the Soft Shelled Crab (after she had the Pepper Jelly Oysters Starter). Her crab was a very large portion. My crawfish cakes were pretty small; just two small cakes and a side of cole slaw. Here, your 'entree' doesn't come with sides; you order them separately (for an additional fee). All the flavors in our food were delicious. Everything was balanced and seasoned perfectly. For dessert, I had to get the Blackberry Ooey Gooey. I was very excited about this, and it was good. But it really wasn't ooey or gooey. It was a bit drier than I was expecting. It came with cream cheese ice cream, but it tasted more like vanilla. $10 for this small piece of cake seemed a bit much. I will be coming back here to try more of the food. They have dishes that you aren't going find everywhere else so I think that makes it worth it to try.

Julia L.

Yelp
This spot is special because of the option to dine in the train! I enjoyed taking my son here who thinks trains are cool. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and offers tasty options.

Kate K.

Yelp
November of 2017 I had a frose at a restaurant in Long Beach called Restauration. I enjoyed it so much I put a little research into frose and their origins...my sleuthing led me to Lola in Covington. I started following them on IG and thus my lust of their menu began. Fresh, seasonal Southern fare. My mouth watered for over a year. As luck would have it I had a wedding in Mandeville Oct of 2018. As MY LUCK would have it, they were closed every opportunity I had to sneak away to Lola. Flash forward to Christmas and I was in New Orleans. Saturday night was immediately set aside to make the mecca to Lola. Impending doom of reality not meeting my expectations loomed in my head. We arrived. Sans reservation. The space was warm, welcoming and busy. The last table open by the hostess booth was open and they sat us immediately. So far, so good. I started with a satsuma jalapeño margarita. And the charred octopus with tomato relish and black eyed pea hummus. The flavor notes were incredible. I savored every bite. Other tables raved about the charcuterie board but being from CA there was no way I was ordering what's in front of me every weekend (but if you're local to the area I would suggest it). Dinner was the brown butter scallops. No exaggeration they were the best scallops I've ever had in my life. They had me at crispy prosciutto. Dessert was something chocolate. Also delicious. Lola exceeded my expectations. They also have a great selection of CA wines. Paso Robles wines rival many from Napa and should be tried if you haven't before. Only criticism is more tajin/smoked salt on the margarita please. I'm so happy I finally dined at this amazing establishment and am still in disbelief that it was even better than expected. Bravo

Tim C.

Yelp
This is a unique little sandwich shop. We came for lunch and had a couple sandwiches, a salad, a soup, and a dessert. The staff was very friendly, and the food was pretty good. The soup was by far the best tasting thing we had. I would have liked to see more side options for the sandwiches other than just soup and salad, but the soup was so good that I didn't even miss any other side. Great little lunch spot, especially on the patio.

Barbara F.

Yelp
What do you get when you cross casual dining experience with fine dining food? You get LOLA ! I cannot rave enough about my dinner. Absolutely delicious and the plate was a generous portion. The Brussels sprouts were the best. Perfectly roasted and seasoned. The Parmesan risotto was heads above anything Gordon Ramsey could do. I've had his and so I can say this with a clear conscience! Everything was awesome all the way to the dessert. We ate in the dining car of the restaurant. So cute and quirky.
