Lola Review - Copenhagen - The Infatuation

"Socioeconomic equality and dinner make excellent bedfellows, or at least they do at Lola. The restaurant strives to take care of its staff with a new approach to the kitchen hierarchy that places an emphasis on inclusion and a work/life balance. If you just want a great meal, however, Lola also delivers. The menu is influenced by the culturally diverse team who devise it, with dishes like Ecuadorian-inspired ceviche served alongside unagi-style eggplant with black sticky rice. Based near the famous Freetown Christiania and keen to remain a neighborhood spot that serves every member of the community, this place is always welcoming. The restaurant’s terrace is situated on the forest-like banks of the Christianshavn lakes - where residents of the semi-autonomous region have built eccentric wooden houses - which is the perfect spot for an aperitif with a blanket before dinner." - Sorcha McCrory

Lola is a five star. The atmosphere the service and the food are all great. The menu is perfect.. So glad I got there last night. It’s been a while. I love their hummus with the chicken, Fattoush salad and the cauliflower.

Google
This is some of the best food I’ve ever had. Period. It is all meticulously prepared and the presentation is stunning! But as good as the food looks, it truly shines in taste. The mushroom pizza was so complex and layered, it is a must order. LOLA sources many of their ingredients from their own farms in Long Island. This is great not only for the quality, but sustainability as well! Highly, HIGHLY recommend getting out to this restaurant at least once in your life.

Google
Great date night spot! First time visiting, the menu, while small, makes it hard to decide because everything sounds so amazing! Thankfully, our server Ashley gave her recommendations and pairings, and we ended up with the perfect amount of food between the two of us. Everything tasted great and was tastefully plated as well. Thank you!

Neil

Google
Small menu but food was wonderful. Service was very attentive and excellent. The place was not so big but very warm and comfortable. The noise level was loud because there is no soundproofing.

Google
Excellent food. Our waitress Lauren is so informative. Able to guide us with our order. Dessert was amazing..all the choices. I had the brownie sundae. The menu however is very limited.

Google
The food was impeccable, service superb and ambience dreamy. 😍 Come hungry for the food and stay for the company and drinks 😋. This was the perfect small and intimate birthday celebration location. I would highly recommend it and would most definitely come back for dinner again. Hope you enjoy as much as I have!!!

Google
Such a delicious meal with an excellent dining experience. Every dish was bright and worked well with each other all while being unique in flavor. Taste fatigue was not a problem at this restaurant. Highly suggest you share multiple dishes to get the most for your money.

Google
Great Mediterranean restaurant with traditional ambiance but modern taste. Lovely flavors and great composition. The malawach flatbread was great, so was the hummus. Good service by Allie, great company. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This restaurant is somewhat hidden and not the easiest to spot unless you're specifically searching for it. While it appears small from the outside, it's surprisingly spacious inside with tasteful decor. The food is incredible--easily my favorite Mediterranean restaurant. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, with no complaints at all. Our server was exceptionally attentive and answered all our questions. I'm excited to return and try more dishes!

Yelp
We had the hummus, beets, Charred Octopus, Grilled Branzino, Steak, Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras, shrimp pasta, roast duck. Everything was quite good. It's a little pricey but overall everything was excellent. The shrimp pasta was a bit in the sweet side. The foil gras was my favorite. Service was great.

Yelp
A wonderful dining experience. Overall ambiance is relaxing and welcoming. My little girl has peanut / sesame allergies and the chef came out and made special dishes for her! Would def go again

Yelp
We had appetizers and 2 types of fish which were delish! Our server, Desiree, was so nice and pleasant as all our needs were met in a timely fashion. Definitely going back.

Yelp
Modern taste of Mediterranean Food . Chef gregory recommend for their Hudson Valley Duck and Chicken Foie Gras for two we enjoy it to the bone,. And the complimentary dish the Brussels sprout I love the whatever dressing they put in, perfect combination. Lastly the babaganoush, i love the zesty sweet flavor of the pomegranate. Bonus information LOLA sources many of their ingredients from their own farms in Long Island. Highly recommend! Kudos!

Yelp
Here is the good. If all I ordered was the branzino and the rice I would have had the best dinner I have had out in months. The bad. Is that I also ordered the over salty cauliflower and the overcooked duck. And the worse. Did I mention the gummy unseasoned hummus. I would much rather have grocery store hummus. But to be fair, the branzino was so fresh, perfectly cooked and the skin was delicately crispy. Served on top of a slightly sweet purée I could do without. The rice was the best thing. The crispy chickpeas made it. I will go back just to try other things to accompany the rice I order. Such interesting sounding things to try. But I expect it to be hit or miss.

Yelp
My colleagues and I came here for a post work dinner. The staff here are truly the best! Everyone was a sweetheart and super attentive. I'm not a big Mediterranean food person but their roasted cauliflower and chicken schnitzel were fantastic! Cocktails were unique and delicious as well. The inside is small but very vibey.

Yelp
This place was SO good. We got a bunch of the "shareables" so we could try a bunch of things. The chicken shawarma was so delicious, the flavors mixed together and then ontop of the warm pita had me scraping the bowl. The fattoush salad was so fresh and ENORMOUS! I loved the feta and pomegranate seeds. The chicken schnitzel was fantastic as well, the potatoes added a sweet, creamy flavor to the pounded and perfectly crisp chicken. The artichoke malawach was good, but not my favorite, it was definitely more spinach heavy, and was a bit too heavy for me. The brussel sprouts were ok, and could have definitely had less dressing mixed in. I definitely want to return for more shawarma and want to try the babaganoush. Solid spot for middle eastern food!

Yelp
Had an AMAZING culinary experience this evening at Lola Restaurant Great Neck! Lola serves mediterranean delights with creative presentation that is deliciously fresh. The appetizers were enough for the meal, and there was more! This food was crafted to perfection! this place is a real find! The food is top notch! The owner/chef Lenny sous chef Greg... came to greet us. All was so delicious! lots of vegetables and all made to order. Well worth the trip! Easy to reach from Manhattan on the LIRR to Great Neck!

Yelp
Although the food was exemplary, the slow service leaves a lot to be desired. perhaps a little more sound attenuation wouldn't hurt as well. over all, it will definitely be a return visit. The menu is too appealing!

Yelp
A trendy and beautiful Mediterranean restaurant on the main drag in Great Neck. We sat in a comfortable round booth. The wine & cocktail list were very nice. Unfortunately, there was only one waitress, Chelsea was also the bartender, bussed our tables - she was efficient, personable & very very busy. It was a busy & noisy Monday night. We enjoyed our wines & cocktails along with appetizers. The baked feta fondue came in a cast iron pan it was creamy & had a sweet onion, nut topping. The artichokes were on a fillo pie crust. For dinner we shared the lamb kofte and Brussels sprouts, they were just delicious, portions were so large before coming home. The baked Alaska was as delicious as it was beautiful. All four of us enjoyed an exceptional & very delicious memorable dinner.

Yelp
Won't return - very uncomfortable seats - what the hell! They're more than half empty. My back hurts. This Mediterranean restaurant has been opened for a while. Eggplant - very good, served in a chipped bowl Chickpea fritter - great Octopus - ok Artichoke Malawach - pizzaish: topping is good, crust is sweet. Street parking.

Yelp
this is one of the finest restaurants I have been to in New York City. Every time I go there. I want to order every appetizer on the menu. Brussels sprouts are amazing. They are amazingly hospitable and friendly with excellent service.. There is no flaw. they are not cheap., but they are not outrageously expensive.

Harry L.

Yelp
Are you kidding? I was told the special is a Rib Eye steak. I was delivered a sirloin. I ordered Brussel Sprouts. They were swimming in oil. Even the cocktail seemed watered-down. What the? Where is the Owner? Has he no pride? Did he sell the business? I try this place, every four months, because I don't want to drive to the next town, and each time it is worse! Shame on me. Shame on this establishment.

Yelp
First off, the chairs were quite comfortable. I think that's worth mentioning right away. So we arrived and were seated right away for our 6pm reservation for our party of seven. The menu had a variety of fish, meat, poultry, and vegetable dishes. The vegan and vegetarian in our group were both very satisfied. We started off with appetizers for the table, which included hummus with pita, a special crispy potato dish with delicious dipping aiolis, and two different salads. The food was very fresh and well made. The dishes are carefully thought out to maximize their flavor profiles. Hello Josh, I know you're reading this. I particularly appreciated the fluffy Pita bread. Our waitress was also very sweet and attentive. My main course was a gnocchi special. It was good. It was rich and creamy. I couldn't finish it though because of how heavy it was... but that would be the case anywhere with a dish like that in particular. I will definitely be recommending this place to others and making a return to show it to my family. I think they will enjoy it very much like I did. Until next time!

Yelp
Lola is one of the best restaurants on Long Island. Chef Lenny Messina is a genius in the kitchen. Lola uses the freshest ingredients. The food is delicious. We've had the salmon, branzino, chicken and lamb. The foie gras is a fantastic addition to whatever entree you try. All the small plates are amazing. So are the side salads. No matter what we've had here, the food has been delicious. They have a great wine list. Their cocktails are so good. The desserts are memorable. Try the baked Alaska!!! The entire staff is so friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
The most delicious dishes $ superior service. Go there & try the place Best Restaurant in Great Neck! It's a 10+

Yelp
Top notch restaurant. The food is always spectacular and there's always a ton of unique dishes. Service is excellent and their scene is always nice. Nice, mixed crowd. Never too loud or rowdy.

Yelp
My wife described this place as "chic". I would have to agree with that... ambience was nice with some cool lighting and a nice bar area. The menu isn't super huge but I would suggest approaching this as a "shared plate" type of meal like we did, as opposed to one plate per person (although that would probably work out fine too)... Reason I suggest sharing is because EVERYTHING we tried was phenomenal. The pita and hummus was some of the best I've ever had, the chicken schnitzel was equal parts flavorful and crispy, and the mushroom malewach (essentially a filo dough pizza) was to die for. I think we ordered about 6 dishes for 4 of us, and we all enjoyed every single one. And since this thing is prompting me, yes the service was excellent. Friendly waitresses and super attentive. Definitely will be back.

Yelp
Thumbs up! I've been here many, many times. With work where I have brought visiting guests, with family and now I do take out! It's usually after I get a text from my daughter saying "Can you bring home food from Lola's?!!" My favorites: hummus with mushrooms (any hummus, really), Brussel sprouts (amazing!) , fattoush salad, branzino and roasted chicken. Excellent!! Everyone who I have brought has loved the food and experience because there is enough variety on the menu for all and staff are nice. Parking can seem like an issue, but there are municipal lots nearby you have to find. (Maybe owners can advise further). Otherwise the LIRR Great Neck train station is a short walk. Train it for an adventure, but not needed. Enjoy!

Yelp
Exceptional Mediterranean food. They were short staffed but in the age of covid, I'm not deducting points for this. Our waitress on Monday May 16 was exceptional despite the short staff. The baked feta fondue, grilled lamb koffe, artichoke and baked Alaska were all good! Would definitely go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Got takeout from here -- brussels sprouts, cauliflower salad, lamb, and the hummus with chicken. It's a bit pricey to spend on takeout for what you get (I'm sure the atmosphere of the restaurant makes it more worth it), but all of the food was absolutely delicious. Would love to dine in sometime and get the full experience.

Yelp
Keep changing menu. The latest one is terrible. The food used to be very good, I do not know what happened. Quality is down, portions smaller, not as tasty but very expensive
google avatar

Yelp
restaurant can get noisy but good food and service. flavors are great but strong. ordered the pasta, steak, chicken and Babaganoush

Yelp
Love coming to Lola! Their food is amazingly delicious. Their staff is so friendly and nice

Yelp
This place next ceases to amaze me. We started with the hearts of romaine salad, with lemon tahini dressing, nuts and seeds and shavings of parm and lemon zest. Then we got the artichoke malawach which is like a pizza on philo dough...very good, the Only neg was the outside was perfectly crispy but the center was a little soggy/raw. We tried a weekly special app and weren't crazy about it, after letting the staff know they came over and asked about it and took it off the bill. Great food and great customer service, Lola is an easy repeat when I'm in the area. Ask for the halva parfait...you're welcome.

Yelp
it's a lovely restaurant if you have people that are vegetarian. There is something for everyone. Wonderfully stocked bar too

Yelp
I stumbled upon this restaurant while I was in Great Neck one evening and what a pleasant surprise! The staff were sweet, friendly & attentive and the food was truly amazing. Way better than Limani imo. I got the roasted mushroom hummus (comes with their housemade pita bread), charred octopus and grilled whole branzino topped with foie gras. Everything was delicious, well-seasoned and tasty! They make the best hummus here and the cannellini beans that accompanied the octopus was so flavorful. There is plenty of street metered parking, the ambiance was great and very resonably priced. If you're craving authentic gourmet Mediterranean cuisine, come try Lola.

Yelp
I hate to write a negative review but after making a reservation a few days in advance, we were seated in the "front" which is basically not connected to the restaurant and sits under a flood light (inside) where you can see gnats in the air. The food was served quite cold, so I'm guessing it was plated much earlier. Tasted good but very cold. The wine list is not good at all and overpriced for what it was. Service was very friendly. This was my first dinner with my husband after having a baby arranging a babysitter, and it was truly a waste of time.

Michal K.

Yelp
Delicious food. Restaurant has a modern and intimate vibe. Very sweet staff. The menu does change frequently but a lot of people like that concept for variety. If you enjoy eating tapas or mezze style this is a great option. Highly recommend their schnitzel and lemon potato puree (this usually stays on the menu, thankfully). Definitely love coming here!

Yelp
Hands down a hidden gem in the Village of Great Neck Plaza and the North Shore of Long Island. Best way for me to descibe LOLA is its a taste of the mediterranean in a beautifully chic restaurant reminiscent of a spot you may find in SOHO NYC or LA. My favorite dishes per course are as follows: -Appetizer Course: Hummus with mushrooms and onions (try it on both their beautifully sliced cucumbers or fresh out of the oven full loaves of pita) -Dinner Course: Try one night their incredible roasted chicken. Keep in mind I am not typically a fan of chicken but this dish made me a believer that poultry when done right can be one of the most incredible dishes you've ever eaten. It comes generously portioned with a nice bed of couscous underneath that compliments the chicken beautifully. Not in the mood for chicken? No problem, I recommend in that case that you go for their Hudson Valley Duck and Foie Gras Pie for two. Its a rush of flavors and textures that will get you doing a happy dance the second you try it! For Dessert - Hands down their Halva parfait. Its that perfect something to end the night right! Lolas staff of Marissa and Lenny in the back along with the other service staff are super coridal, friendly, professional and enhance the all around dining experience. Do I recommend Lola? I absolutley do! Its a must try and is one of my go-tos!

Yelp
Came with the family but restaurant week. What i liked about this place was the tapas style-lots of appetizers mainly consisting of chickpeas. If you love hummus this is the place to go! Thankfully i love hummus so you get an assortment of baba ganoush, hummus with a crunchy chickpea and hummus with beets. My favorite was the hummus with crunchy chickpea. The baba ganoush (eggplant) was good too not as big a fan of beets in general. The thai salad wasn't really anything special mostly cabbage. We loveddd the roasted cauliflower though! Entrees we got the duck which my brother and dad enjoyed. The fois gra is literally fat fat and more fat way too fatty for me but my dad loves it. I enjoyed my mom's chicken dish the best but it is basically grilled chicken (probably not worth as much as the other dishes). And i got the cod meatball which would've been good but i personally didn't like the sauce. Not sure what was in it but it was a strong taste that i didn't like unfortunately. Desserts were interesting not the type of parfeit i am used it. It has dry shavings on it not sure what it was but my dessert was better than the chocolate tart and lava cake but that's because i don't like chocolate. Pretty presentation. This place is loud af and there is a bar right next to the restaurant area. Dimly lit would be nice for a date. Service was a bit slow because they were busy so understandable. Waiter was nice and we ranted about Game of Thrones together haha

Yelp
I love Lola soooo much! My favorite dishes are their fattoush salad, duck and their pizzas, especially their mushroom one. I think I've tried almost everything on the menu and haven't had anything that i wouldn't want to order again. Their cocktails are also spot on! It's a great place for a date night, a night out with the girls, or for take-out! I promise you will not be disappointed if you eat here.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow wow wow ! What a delicious meal we just had at Lola. The cauliflower appetizer as well as the hummus with mushrooms and black truffle both out of this world good. The Tzatziki was amazing, so creamy. Also had the Hummus with Chicken schwarma. Baba was also very good. Every dish we had was outstanding.

Yelp
Immediately when I arrived I loved the feel ... the bar is right by the door so if you arrive before your friends you hav sit and order a drink .. the bartender was super friendly and made a great cocktail... once we sat at our table we were greeted by a super nice waitress and we checked out the menu. I was told by my friend that the chef changes the menu all the time which I love ... we ordered some appetizers and our main dishes ... everything came to us hot and super fresh ! I can't say anything other than don't miss this spot I was there on a Wednesday evening I got there kind of early at 6 by they time we left the place was packed I don't think there was a wait bus it was very busy we had a reservation but I'm. It sure if it is required

Yelp
This visit: 3 stars (oily entree, I was not pleased) Average score: 4 stars I love Lola and this is actually my sixth visit (counting pre-Yelp days). I try to frequent here at least once a year with different groups of friends to introduce the place. While I was sad they changed their original fusion menu (American/French/Asian inspired fare) about 2-3 years ago, their Mediterranean menu doesn't disappoint. Note: on this visit I ordered off the restaurant week menu and was somewhat disappointed. Normally, best bet is to order off their regular menu. Per the waiter, given the appetizers are "shared" - it's all or none for the restaurant week menu. My group had to all agree to order off the RW menu, we couldn't mix it up. Not sure what happened on this visit, it is definitely not indicative of all other visits. While it was a pleasant dining experience, the biggest problem here was my duck entrée. Not the same entrée on the regular menu so don't confuse the two. This duck entrée (RW menu) was a minced duck entrée served in a hot pan. Minced - not whole slices/pieces. It was soooo oily...it was barely edible as you kept scooping. And given it was minced duck, it didn't have the nice smoky flavor the normal duck breast meat would. Disappointed. Overall, I do love this place normally...regular menu is great, must try the spread sampler. And the foie gras is a must. This last visit was not indicative of their usual quality of food. Please fix that duck dish!!!

Yelp
This place is a GEM. A total gem. From the start of the meal to the end, service was impeccable, food was OUTSTANDING, and ambiance was delightful. Went on a Sunday to brunch, and there was only one or two other tables. I don't know why. We opted to sit at the bar, and the bartender/server Shelby was amazing. Her recommendations were spot on and she was funny and helpful in guiding us through choices. We started with a pomegranate "mimosa" and a grapefruit and St. Germaine "mimosa" and they were excellent. Perfect balance of flair and champagne. For starts we ordered the "pick three, the cauliflower, the tzatziki, and the eggplant, as well as the hummus. The hummus was AMAZING, as well as the pita, and the homemade pita? YUM. The chef here is quite well known and even came over to check on us, which was so nice! I love that :) For mains I ordered the truffle eggs with a honey biscuit, which was out of this world outstanding. That biscuit was my life :) Of course after stuffing our faces we had to do dessert as well and we ordered this chocolate peanut butter cake that was absolutely heavenly. Go here. Right now. Make a reservation and GO!

Yelp
Been to Lola many times and I get psyched even before going. It's because I know for sure that I'm about to eat well, very well. Do have my favorites but can't go wrong with anything. Creative twists on regular menu and specials. Always torn between sticking with old favorites (hummus chicken with sautéed onions, to die for) or trying something tempting and new. Lola apparently uses ingredients from their upstate farm, big fan of farm to table because fresh just tastes soooo good. Service is great, staff is really nice, always checking in to ensure that we have what we need. Nice date spot or go earlier for a more casual vibe. Good idea to call ahead but they always try to accommodate any last minute visits. Lola is one of the few places that gets it right, highly recommend!

Yelp
amazing service! top notch food! lot for me to eat as a vegan. very nice vibe and awesome staff.

Yelp
I took my son here to celebrate his birthday and we had the best time. The food and service was exceptional. Our server Marissa was so sweet, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. We decided on ordering chefs tasting so we could try more off the the menu and be surprised. We were not at all disappointed! EVERYTHING was exceptionally prepared, so fresh and bursting with flavors. To start we had Truffled Mushroom Caramelized Garlic | Fig Glaze | Mozzarella | Roasted Cauliflower Salad Blistered Red Peppers | Lemon | Tahini| Scallion Crispy Falafel. As our entry we shared the Skewer Platter with Lamb Kofta | Cilantro & Harissa | Organic Chicken | Shawarma Spice which served so beautifully on a bed of crispy brussel sprouts and the most delicious Bravas Style French Fries. Dessert was so incredible Krembo Baked Alaska Vanilla Bean Fluff | Graham Sable | Roasted Cocoa Ice Cream We can't thank Chef Lenny enough for the love and passion he put in to every dish, and for making our experience a night to remember! We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Great unique Israeli food. Always busy so reservations are required. Great appetizers with hummus and things. Sad though the owner just passed away.

Yelp
Food was phenomenal. Staff were great. Highly recommend. Cauliflower salad best I've had.

Yelp
This Mediterranean restaurant is incredible!!! The truffle hummus is so delicious I can't even tell you. I had the chicken schnitzel and OMG!!! It's awesome. Their mashed potatoes, hummus and other puréed food have a smooth creamy texture, I don't know how they do it!!! It's velvety. My son had the duck and he said it's the best he has ever had. The kitchen gave us a complementary couscous which was so nice. All the pita bread is free and they keep it coming. Our waitress was super friendly and checked on us often. The mushroom malawach is beyond!!! Ok now the desserts...all I can say is you have to have the baked Alaska period. We also tried the baklava cheesecake and boy oh boy is it good. It's worth the extra money. We will go back for sure.

Yelp
I had a wonderful dining experience when I came here recently for Long Island Restaurant Week. The service was attentive from beginning to end. My friend and I are fans of Mediterranean food so we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We started off with an expansive array of hot and cold appetizers which is unique to Restaurant Week. The spread took over the entire table and included baba ghanoush (my fave), hummus and tzatziki (my friend's fave) among others. It was too much for two people so they packed the extra individually to go. We both had the duck breast which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. However I did not touch the bed of lentils that it came on. We finished off with basbousa which was a light cake that came with a side of their signature olive oil ice cream. I know that olive oil ice cream doesn't sound extremely appetizing but it is and you are recommended to try it when dine here after reading my amazing review!

Yelp
Sign on the window said "we are back" , that's what's up ..had no idea what kind of food...just hungry so I came inside...one of the best Mediterranean restaurants I have ever been too. Food is so fresh and authentic! Great service as well! Don't hesitate...go inside.

Yelp
The service and ambiance is great. A couple of friends and I came and had a great assortment of tapas and wine. We enjoyed all of the dishes. The truffled mushroom pizza dish was my favorite. The lamb kofta was a little too overdone which was a little disappointing. The waitress was so helpful with her recommendations! Overall great experience, will definitely visit again.

Andy P.

Yelp
This place really really blew me away, from its service and interior to its tasty and well plated food. Inside, it is modern and unique with colorful paintings and decorations on the brick walls. Our server was very kind and energetic which we liked. We started with baba ganoush and fattoush which were delicious. As a main, we ordered lamb kofta, grilled Branzino, and crispy Brussel sprouts which were the star of the show. Finally, for dessert we got baked Alaska which had a creamy but crispy top and chocolate ice cream in the middle. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay at Lola and I would recommend it to you.

Yelp
Ambiance is great. service rushes you if late at night.
