Vegetarian Favourite Lola Rosa Just Opened in Place-des-Arts — and Other Expansions | Eater Montreal

"I noticed Lola Rosa has expanded again, adding a newly opened Sainte-Catherine location right alongside Place des Arts a week ago; it adds to their small empire (with spots in Old Montreal, Mile End, and near McGill) and offers a similar menu of comforting vegetarian and vegan dishes ranging from nachos to curries and burgers." - Tim Forster

Cute little place near Desjardin. Lovely staff. Great vegan place for anyone (meat eater or not) to enjoy. The nachos with chorizo was our favorite item. We also got the poutine which was a nice twist and the curry was a nice warm meal on this cold day. The appetizers come in two sizes which was good for us since we wanted to try multiple items. Would definitely go again.

Google
Elevated vegan cuisine which is admired by non-vegans too. They have a seemingly small menu but it offers a great variety including appetizers, main dishes and desserts. We ordered nachos to share, it had vegetables, avocado, beans; tartar was served with toast; lasagna with salad on the side and burgers with fries. Delicious strawberry lemonade too!

Wow. Very casual authentic completely vegan fare. Staff is super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed vegan poutine, cheesesteak, and tofu curry special with broccoli soup & lemonade. place has 2 1/2 floors with downstairs and upstairs bar, foosball table, and plenty of seating. Too bad this place is five hours away from where we live.

I went with a friend who is vegan and enjoyed my meal. I had the signature salad, which was well prepared and beautifully presented. We ordered a poutine for the table that was also flavorful. The service was friendly and efficient. 5/5 would recommend!

Google
I went with 3 friends around dinner time on a Thursday evening. The inside of the place is super cute and there is lots of seating to accommodate larger groups. I am happy there are more plant based options, but I found the food to be very underwhelming. I ordered the Cajun burger with the chickpea fries. I expecting more flavor and found it to be quite dry. The chickpea fries were okay, but I found the regular fries to be better. If you prefer a crispy fry then stick with the traditional fries! The service was great though.

Need to start by saying that this is an amazing vegetarian restaurant! It’s so good you won’t miss the meat! I’m not vegetarian, definitely not vegan so I would never normally seek out a place like this, but while traveling with a coworker who is vegetarian with many dietary restrictions, I scoped this place out and came here. Upon arriving we were quickly greeted and seated, the guy taking care of our table was very helpful and explained so much about the menu, the chef, their dishes, etc. He went through each item we brought up and explained them in detail; he even offered suggestions and explained those as well! In fact, one of his recommendations was my entrée, their Cajun Burger. I wouldn’t normally get a sweet potato dish as I’m not too found of sweet potato, but his description was so amazing and he explained I wouldn’t notice the sweet potato flavor, so I ordered it and WOW, it was great! It had a nice spice and definitely tons of great flavor! It’s also very filling! The chick pea fries that came with it were amazing, so much flavor!! Everything we got we all thoroughly enjoyed… I highly recommend stopping in!

The foods are so good here. We ordered Poutine and fried mushroom something and they were impressive. Patio area is nice. Such a good vegan restaurant.

Google
Exceptional service, delicious food, and intolerance friendly! It’s quite rare to find nut free options at vegan restaurants and at Lola Rosa there are a ton. Their alcohol free mocktails are also delicious. I had the nachos and they were to die for, also recommend the Cajun style burger.

Yelp
Simply delicious! Go solo or with your bestie. Sit indoors or outdoors. They have the most wonderful cocktails and dishes for you to share. They are conveniently located in the heart of the city with friendly staff to welcome you and get you started. The drinks they made were just the right amount of buzz, sweetness, and flavor. The food was cooked to perfection. Our Fried Mushrooms were crispy and perfect with the dipping sauce. Our entrees were super tasty with the right amount of spice. Overall, we had a lovely time here. Highly recommend this cozy restaurant.

Yelp
Couple got seated behind me!! Not a good start after I was told I just needed to stand in line. They did apologize and gave me a table for four! Good recovery. 20 minute wait for outside table, plenty of seating available indoors Very friendly bilingual server. She was very pleasant. Cheese steak, fries spicy mayo Small Cesar salad based on reviews. Unsweetened ice tea Not a Philly cheese steak but a great sandwich. Hearty tasting meet, plenty of cheese and the pretzel till have it a unique take. Would order it again. Plenty of food, in the day of shrinkflation. First time having mayo with my fries since I went wfpb. Got salad to go, so I could have brownie for dessert!! Devoured it. Brownie was moist and flavorful. One of the most popular choices , great combination with the ice cream. Glad I did it! Very pleasant and comfortable eating outdoors. Will have to come back again. Top choice No American Express. CAD on Visa

Yelp
It was late (after 8:30pm) and we were starving. We saw outdoor dining which was located in the middle of the fun so we opted for this restaurant not really knowing what they offered. After reviewing the menu we realized they only did vegetarian which now made it clear why their neighbors were bursting at the seems and they had a premium table outdoors that was available. Should we stay or go? No reason to go let's try it. Pretty impressive how the 'chorizo' tacos tasted like chorizo and had a nice spicy bite to them. The eggplant starter had an acquired taste but the pita was delicious. The lasagna was the favorite of the night which we all tasted. We don't speak French however our waiter switched to English and it was a good experience and so nice to sit outdoors and watch the hustle and bustle of a new city.

Yelp
This is a beautiful restaurant, but the food is just ok, nothing to brag about. Our server was very kind, but this restaurant is not for me.

Yelp
We enjoyed our food at Lola Rosa. Waitress was super attentive, we enjoyed the poutine, lemonade with raspberry, cheesesteak, fried shiitake mushrooms (calamari style) and a caramel chocolate tarte dessert. All in all, an excellent vegan friendly meal.

Yelp
Great location near live music. The inside is really nice and covers 3 floors - and there's even a foosball table on the top. The staff are great. Happy to leave you alone at times, but do check in. Very knowledgeable, asked about food allergies. And they're bilingual, which is a plus if you struggle with French. The portions were big. It's all vegan so there were no concerns from my group. The star was definitely the hemp burger. But the curry was good, and the maple tofu was pretty tasty. The cheese steak was just okay (though to be fair it was definitely reminiscent of its meat counterpart). The poutine was probably our least favorite, though it wasn't bad. If I could give half stars I'd say 4.5.

Yelp
Yummy vegan food close to Hilton Garden Inn Centre-Ville. Veggies were fresh and nice flavors. Easy to order by phone In English.

Yelp
Arthur was our fantastic server, patient and so helpful! He described the menu in detail. We had the nachos and hemp burger with the bbq sauce on the side. The sauce is quite sweet so you may want it on the side. Both dishes were delicious! The burger came on a warm brioche bun with perfectly cooked fries and a small salad with a yummy dressing. Highly recommend! Loved my IPA beer without alcohol (it's a Montréal beer, biere sans alcool), tasted like a regular IPA with hops and a bitter end. The restaurant is lively with great music, great for couples and small groups of friends (small tables). It's on a side alley type street with all types of cool other spots. We were sat right away on a Sunday evening at 7:00. It was really full even at this time but quick service.

Yelp
Love this cool place, wonderful cocktails and food served by a lovely team of people. I'm not vegan but I love the menu here. Shout out to the chick pea fries... they were so darn good.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm so sad they closed the park avenue location but at least I have this one! The decor is beautiful and it's very big since they are right where the action is during festival season. I recommend reserving in advance but it's not a must on off season. I went on a tuesday and ordered my regular nachos (I get these every time I come here) to share and tried their poutine which was delicious except the mushrooms were a bit too salty for me. I also recommend the cesar salad. I will always recommend this place since the service is great, the food is varied and delicious, and the location is unbeatable for eating outside during summer.
google avatar

Dino S.

Yelp
The food here is life changing. The chef is not afraid to season the food. Also, everything on the menu is exactly what it says it will be. You order a lemon pie? You're gonna taste lemon all the way from your head to your toes. The chocolate pie? Holy cats that was so chocolatey that my ancestors felt it. The chickpea fries are going to be the subject of my happiest dreams from now on. They're crispy and salty on the outside and creamy and soft on the inside. The BBQ sauce is so good that my omni dining mate was surprised it was vegan! Fried oyster mushrooms came out piping hot with a crisp outside and chewy inside. Tartar sauce was creamy and just the right kick of tartness with vividly green dill laced throughout. The cheesesteak sandwich came on a hefty pretzel bread that gave the whole thing the perfect texture. The meat inside is tender and juicy. The poutine is generously topped with mushrooms to mimic the squeaky texture of cheese curds. We also got several drinks, all of which were made with care and tasted lovely. When we got there on a Friday night, the place was absolutely slammed. The hostess apologised for the inconvenience, but did we mind like a 30 minute wait? She could take down my number and give me a buzz once a table opened up. I have a U.S. number. She didn't mind in the least. Cool. We popped over to a bar like a block away (Nyk's if you're curious) to grab a couple of drinks and have a chat. Like 20 minutes in, I got the call from the hostess, who offered to seat us right then if we didn't mind sitting at the bar. I asked if I could just wait for a table. No worries! She said for sure she'll have a table opening up in like 15 minutes. Good deal. We closed out our tab, and took our time wandering back. We got there just about 15 minutes on the dot. Sure as heck, there was a table for us! Score. Hot tip: order desserts first. Trust me. They are so good, and it would be a crying shame to miss out on the chance to eat vegan desserts that are so lovely. They will bring you a to-go box for your food itself, and their portions are generous. Go here as soon as you can. It's worth every penny.

Yelp
Service is good. And food is good. I didn't know I was in a vegan restaurant until I started looking more at the menu. Good choices!

Yelp
The food was great and the atmosphere & service was so nice. Definitely contributed to an awesome trip to Montreal

Yelp
The best vegan/vegeterian restaurant I've ever eaten at. Absolutely delicious, healthy, very creative. Nice but casual and not expensive.

Yelp
Lola Rosa was my top 2 favorite meals in Montréal. This location has the nicer ambiance for a date so we chose this location for dinner. We started with the vegan poutine bc it was one of the few places offering a vegan version. It met my foodies expectations and then some! We both ordered different entrees and both were fabulous even my nonvegan husband LOVED it! Service was kind. Like everywhere - both French and English fluently spoken.
google avatar

Laura R.

Yelp
I used to go to Lola Rosa on Milton often, so decided to try this location located right near Place des Arts. We had the vegan nachos and the Caesar salad which were both delicious! I also tried the tofu which was okay, but too spicy despite the sauce they use to make it less so. The cueillette de pommes cocktail was incredible!
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
I stopped by Lola Rosa Place-des-Arts dinner recently and was impressed by the service I received. The server was very friendly, proactive in asking about allergies, enthusiastic to provide food recommendations, offered me a table for 6 for just myself, and checked in on me regularly. For food, I got the Crispy Cauliflower and Tunisian Stew. The cauliflower was fresh, crispy, and crunchy. It had just the right amount for salt and pepper and the sauce added extra spice and flavour variation to the food. The Tunisian stew tasted healthy and good with the cinnamon, onion, and tomato. I'd give the overall experience 9/10
google avatar

Yelp
Their tasty vegetarian menu has lots of choices for the whole family. They also offer wine, cocktails, and local beers. Their "Petite Poutine Lola" came with a turmeric/mushroom/black bean gravy and cheese curds that were to die for! My friend was thrown by the turmeric, but I super enjoyed it. Then my "Tagine" was queen with a well-rounded mix of rice and veggies along with apricot, raisins, almonds, and spices galore! It tasted fresh, homey, and delish! My hubs loved his "Hempburger" and my kids really dug the poutine and their Lasagna. Sometimes, you gotta live life on the veg! NOTES/TIPS: **During the pandemic, they require a proof of vaccination card and picture ID. Minors are exempt. **Gender-neutral restrooms upstairs (no elevator).

Yelp
I'm very much not a vegan, and went in here by accident when trying to go to the pizza place next door. It was a happy accident -- this was one of the better meals I've had in Montreal, and I'll definitely come back. The chickpea fries and Cajun burger were just the right level of spice (with salsa); the limited dessert selection all looked good and the chocolate torte was great. This is basically vegan food with high quality whole food ingredients, rather than weird chemical simulations, and was just very good food of any kind.
google avatar

Sylvain P.

Yelp
It's a refreshingly idea to taste something differently vegetaria. And Lola Rosa found a good formula. I taste the Cajun burger and it's a succulent burger a bit spicy but superbly tasty. Fries are OK but not extraordinary, should took a salad. The service was excellent, quick and efficient, especially as the place was packed. I recommend this restaurant if you wasn't a quick veggie meal.
google avatar

Miles R.

Yelp
Great spot for vegan poutine! I also had a sweet potato fritter that was excellent, probably the best vegan food I had in Montreal. Staff was really nice and there are nice little notes left in the tables from past guests. Makes for a really cute atmosphere
google avatar

Luis B.

Yelp
A very creative restaurant in Montreal with delicious vegan options and engaging table activities and decor. Definitely worthy of another visit in the future!
google avatar

Aurora F.

Yelp
My husband spotted this place and we decided to try it out not knowing it was a vegan place. We had the Lola's nachos to start off. They were delicious! The spices were new to us, but in a good way. They all worked well together. For my entree I had the burrito. It was delicious and I would order it again. My husband ordered the cheesesteak and enjoyed it very much. My daughter ordered the quesadilla but did not like it because it only had beans. She's used to quesadillas having cheese. The service was great. We didn't have a reservation, but were seated right away. The waiter was great as well! The only thing was that everything was kind of pricey, but the food was worth it.
google avatar

Susan A.

Yelp
I really enjoy the vegan food here. They also serve drinks if you are so inclined and have a nice patio for outside dining in the summer. They are really friendly and make you feel welcome. The vibe is just what you would expect from a real player on the Montreal vegan scene. This time I had their burger which was delish. Got it with the house salad and it was plenty to fill me up. Going to come back next month for sure.
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
Excellent vegan restaurant at the Place des arts. This was my first vegan experience. I had the brisket burger which was okay, but I probably wouldn't order again. The vegan poutine was good and the salad that went with it was also good. I would highly recommend for vegans and for non vegans-you might like the salad best-they were beautiful and full of fresh vegetables. Also, the ambiance is really nice. It's very open, spacious and bright.

Ashley V.

Yelp
Service was great, ambiance was too! Most importantly, the food- it was so flavorful & delicious! Drinks were great too!
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Beautiful spot, very centrally located at the Place-des-Arts. Plenty of interior seating over several floors, plus outside seating. Expansive menu of all-vegan deliciousness. I was hoping to try their Cheesesteak sandwich but they were out of it. So my server recommended the lasagna, something I don't normally order out -- I gave it a try. I was told it takes 20 minutes to prepare/cook. Honestly, the lasagna was pretty mediocre. The pasta was cooked well but the filling and flavours weren't anything special. Not a whole lot of veggies or interesting ingredients in the filling, just some celery, carrot and what seemed like ground round. I'd redesign this big time -- we've done way better lasagnas at home. Maybe this isn't representative of their general food quality - I don't know. The side Caesar salad was good. They also offer some canned ciders and 6 taps of craft beer. Pretty solid selection. Very friendly service. A bit high on the pricing for what I got quality- and quantity-wise. I'd return to try other dishes, but this experience was underwhelming.
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
Delicious vegan options! Nice ambience and wine selections-synergistic, no? Nothing more to say

B L.

Yelp
We were not sure what type of vegetarian restaurant this would be. Not only did Lola Rosa put us at ease about their exclusive plant based selections but the food was very delicious. The texture and seasoning were surprisingly sophisticated. Service was excellent too. We went on a very rainy day and assumed there would not be many diners. The rain did not stop customers from showing up. The restaurant was packed. I look forward to my next visit.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful. Big portions. Great staff. Will be going back as often as possible.
google avatar

Victor U.

Yelp
Stopped at Lola Rosa on Sainte Catherine for a quick bite for a late snack. My friend and I each took the poutine with braised mushrooms. We also shared the falafel. The poutine has a deep brown flavourful that did not make it look too appetizing, and it was also heavily salted. There is no cheese on this poutine, which I figured since this restaurant is vegan. I would come back to this restaurant to try something else, but definitely not the poutine.

katie c.

Yelp
We were looking for a vegan friendly restaurant, and this was the jackpot! The nachos were amazing, and beautiful to look at. There was an option to add more protein, but I opted out. The Cajun Burger was also great. The poutine was not a typical poutine, it tasted more curry-like. I loved it! But if you are looking for traditional poutine replication it is not super accurate. The waitress was very nice, and the restaurant was very pretty on the inside. They were playing Steve Lacy and other indie music that we loved.
google avatar

Ken Blair G.

Yelp
Good food, friendly service, lovely ambiance and a great location made this a worthwhile visit. Great vegan selections, and although I'm not a vegetarian myself, or a vegan, I food the menu quite satisfying.
google avatar

Lyla M.

Yelp
Very pretty space and you don't feel like you're crushed up against other tables. We split chickpea fries which were yum. My friend had the curry, which could have been spicer, which came with chickpea flatbread, which was amazing. I ate a smash burger-pleasantly retro. We split the key lime dessert and we should have got two. White wine was good. Overall a great experience and I'd like to go back to try other items on the menu as the food on other tables looked super appetizing too.

Nick S.

Yelp
Tasty food, decent service ( could be a bit faster). Nice ambiance - however, the tables were very close to each other making it hard to have a private conversation. Nice to see so many vegan options!
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
I am pleased with what they have on the menu. not much to say I mostly just wanted to give them 5 stars and reach the text limit for being able to :D

Larry R.

Yelp
Food was very good,it was small and acquaint.very friendly.very busy.I went to the one on Milton
google avatar

Shahanaz B.

Yelp
This is a second establishment of Lola Rosa that I am trying. Compared to the Milton street one, this Lola Rosa looks nicer and fancier. It was very exciting for me since their menu is 100% vegetarian. The service was top notch. Our waiter was very attentive, helpful and very nice. We started with a pitcher of white sangria with the mix of litchi Soho. It was outstandingly delicious. Then we had nachos topped with black beans, onions, tomatoes, guacamole and cheese. It was 10/10. One of the best nachos I ate after long time. We all had our individual dishes. The hemp burger was excellent; the quesadilla with rice was good but the rice slightly dry, and sweet potatoes samosas was ok (not enough flavors) but the chutney on the side was excellent. Overall, great experience at this Lola Rosa.
google avatar

Adam T.

Yelp
This place is a vegetarian's dream. We had the soup of the day, the quesadilla and the cheesesteak with chickpea fries. All were incredible. Inpersonally thought the cheesesteak was the best of all. Our family is vegetarian and it's often hard to find good options. Not here in Montreal with a place like Lola Rosa. We will be back for sure P.S.- the desserts are amazing too
google avatar

Hajmil C.

Yelp
Food is decent but not at all amazing. The mushroom appetizer was fantastic but everything else (nachos, charcuterie board, entrees were just meh (and that's being generous). Desert was also subpar. Service was pleasant but not at all attentive. They are super busy. Had to wait in line for a while to even let them know we had a reservation. Prices were gourmet - not a good value. Location is nice, food is vegan but that's about it. Ambiance was solid. Beats not eating out when in a pinch!
google avatar

Mat G.

Yelp
Offering a delicious and unique vegetarian Poutin, I had to try it! The gravy is composed of mushrooms and was rich in composition and flavor. The fries were made just right and the cheese curds complimented it all prefectly. This was a winner
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
Really nice atmosphere but the noise level can get a little loud. By the looks of what I saw go by, I think most of their food is very good. Unfortunately I made some bad choices and ended up having a very disappointing meal. First off, I wanted a Chardonnay but they didn't have any so I ordered the Tequilola cocktail. It was awful and extremely bitter. THE worst cocktail... Next we ordered their samosas which were OK but bland. The avacado cream helped add some flavor. For my meal I ordered the hemp burger. It would've been all right if they hadn't overloaded it with this horrific barbecue sauce that had way too much fake smoke flavoring. The fake smoke flavor was overwhelming and was all you could taste. Also - It was a small bun for the size of the burger and the bun was completely soggy with this sauce and the whole thing just fell apart in a nanosecond. Ugh! I did try the chickpea/polenta fries that came with the burger and found them terrific. My husband had the Tunisian stew and really loved it. Our server was outstanding and without being asked, comped my meal because I didn't like it and despite being busy, she was very attentive.

Yelp
Lola Rosa is one of my favorite restaurants in Montreal. Their menu is entirely vegetarian, but almost all items can be made vegan on request. Their desserts are mostly vegan. They have a wide range of international foods on their menu. Everything comes in satisfying portions and tastes great. Service is also very friendly. Entree: sweet potato quesadilla with rice and salad. The quesadilla can be made vegan on demand. It was topped with a cheezy sauce and stuffed with fresh avocado and a spicy sweet potato puree. Dessert: vegan chocolate and caramel pie on a pecan and puffed rice crust. The pie was soooo creamy, rich and decadent. I haven't had a chocolate-based dessert in ages and this definitely hit the spot.

Samantha C.

Yelp
I ate here 3 nights in a row because it was the closest vegan restaurant to my hotel. I enjoyed everything I ordered, and portions were very fair. Only thing to note is that the poutine is topped with about 20 mini mushrooms (not a mushroom fan!) and so beware if you don't like mushrooms. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Steph B.

Yelp
This place was delicious. The service was exceptional even through a hiccup of spilled drinks. I would definitely recommend going here if you are in Montreal. And if you are lucky enough to have Claire and Tomas as your servers you are in great hands. They were both so personable that the whole experience was a pleasure. Plus the manager on duty, a woman whose name I sadly cannot recall, was also great! This team of folks made the night great.P. S. We got the hemp burgers and Cajun burgers which were phenomenal. The fries are ridiculously good too. Plus Tomas recommended the Lola Rose to drink which was great. Pro tip: ask for hot sauce. It's exceptional.

Yelp
Vegan/vegetarian restaurant on Rue Saint Catherine. Big and spacious with split level seating. Plenty of tables available on a Saturday night - unlike the other location closer to McGill. Very spacious and clean, and with high ceilings. I got the vegetarian samosas with avocado creme, petite vegetarian poutine (you can get vegan cheese), a ginger/jalapeno/tequila cocktail and the key lime vegan dessert - with aquafaba meringue. My favorite things were the cocktail and the dessert. The mushroom gravy on the poutine was tasty and the portion was quite large, not sure how big the regular size is?! The samosas were aite but I wasn't blown away, the avocado creme enhanced them though. The people at the table next to me got the fried cauliflower (which looked amazing) and the daily soup. I think I'd try those it I were to return again. Staff were all friendly. Good dining experience.

Yelp
This place was quite enjoyable. Adorable and set in an older building, it definitely had its quirks. But the service and the food was very good. I ordered the burrito. Simply burrito on the menu. Nothing to change or add. My group said the beers they offered were very good but I cannot speak for them. When the food arrived, everything was presented spectacularly. It almost looked too good to eat. Straight out of some marketing campaign on television where they show you what looks amazing but is flat and tasteless when you open the package. Not this place. The taste was very good as well. The pilaf was a little on the bland side and the waitress warned us of it being very a little on the spicy side. It was spicy, but only on a 1-2 scale. Maybe medium spicy. But it was all well prepared. The restaurant was well decorated and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place.
