Lola Coastal Mexican plans a major overhaul with a Hollywood designer refreshing the space | Eater Denver

"A 17-year-old coastal Mexican restaurant in Denver’s Lower Highland neighborhood is closing briefly for a renovation guided by interior designer Kari Whitman, a longtime friend of owner Dave Query. Whitman—known for hotel projects in New York, Baltimore and Los Angeles, for designing several rooms of the White House during the Obama era, and for residential and commercial work for chefs and Hollywood clients such as Jessica Alba, Kristen Bell, Melanie Griffith, Antonio Banderas and Emilio Estevez—brings a high-end, eco-conscious aesthetic and has appeared on The Discovery Channel’s The Dude Room. The planned redesign aims to restore a breezy Baja-inspired feel with raw organic finishes mixed with cool, ocean-reflective colors; Query says the goal is to recapture the rustic, grounded spirit of the Baja Peninsula. The restaurant will close on May 13 for the bulk of the work and plans to reopen on May 21. It originally opened in 2002 on South Pearl Street in Washington Park and moved to its current location four years later." - Susan Stapleton

Came in for a drink and a shared snack. We have a well behaved service dog and no issues. Sat at the bar, great service. Drinks are not cheap- well crafted and a very reasonable value for the price. The hibiscus punch was excellent and not overly sweet. Just a great balance of flavors. Food is similarly not cheap- $19 for the omelet. WELL worth the price, portion size was great, very good steak portion, well made rice on the side (we don't eat beans so can't rate that part). Excellent presentation and ingredients Service is fantastic. Friendly, professional, relaxed.

First time here for dinner, we have been here before for brunch and it was delicious. My wife's shrimp with creamy chipotle sauce was amazing and I opted for Lola's Burrito and it did not disappoint. I was very hungry walking in and felt very satisfied walking out the door an hour later. Our server was kind, polite and the service was stellar. Background music also had a great vibe, 80s tunes with a jazz twist. Had a great time and we will definitely be back again!

WOW!!! Not your usual Mexican restaurant. So many unique menu options it’s hard to choose. Service was excellent. Guacamole tasted fresh and definitely made in house. Generous portions. Happy hour drinks and appetizers. If I was a local I’d be a regular!

Google
Beautiful spot with nice and inviting atmosphere! The food was excellent and beautifully prepared. They have the best, most well seasoned guacamole than any othet Mexican restaurant I've tasted. Affordable prices and great service.

Came here on a tuesday afternoon, the hostess and services were very sweet and welcoming as well as the whole staff. The interior is very pretty and vibrant for the beach, loved the quesadillas and the enchiladas, the tostada was okay as their ceviche was nor my favorite, but I’d definitely get the quesadillas again, and the churros were 10/10

Google
This is the best Mexican food I’ve ever had in MY ENTIRE EXISTENCE ON EARTH. Their chimichangas IS UNMATCHED! That sauce they top it with, is out of this world. I live in NJ/NY AND I have tasted lots of Mexican restaurants but this one by far, PHENOMENAL ON EVERY LEVEL. Taste, flavor, ingredients, freshness, texture, and presentation. I wish I lived in Virginia because I would eat this EVERYDAY!

Ashten S.

Google
The best chile rellano I've ever had, it was with quinoa... crasins on top was the best touch👌 roastes salsa and ranch was FANTASTIC.. service was awesome unfortunately I dont remember their name. top tier mexican food 👌.

Google
Four stars because I am a tough grader. Most people give five stars because they're just nice and had a good time. I do that sometimes but not when I'm really reviewing a place. I reserve five stars for truly incredible places. This place was good. You'll have good food. You'll have good service. You'll have a nice atmosphere. Will it blow you away? Probably not and that's okay. If I were to critique anything that they do, I would say that they putting the melted cheese on top of the burrito takes away from the flavor. It's very American and a lot of their menu reflects the customer demands of this area. There's no reason for them to have pasta or hamburgers on their menu. It's actually rather sad and more of a reflection of the area for my experience in the food business. My suggestion to them is to cut down on the options, make it easier for people to make up their mind. And if they don't want Mexican food, they should really go somewhere else. Your cooks will love you for an simpler menu even if it's all the same ingredients.

Yelp
Stumbled into Lola's today and wow--what an unexpected gem right by the shoreline. From the moment we walked in, the bright coastal colors and warm vibe hit just right. Service was friendly, quick, and genuinely welcoming. Chesbay Punch Let's talk about this drink. Light, fruity, refreshing, and dangerously easy to sip. Perfect balance--not too sweet, not too tart. It tasted like vacation in a glass. Ceviche Tower A showstopper. Literally a skyscraper of fresh shrimp, scallops, and fish layered with bright lime, cilantro, tomato, jalapeño, and silky avocado on top. Clean, zesty, generous portion, and plated beautifully. The house-made chips on the side were crisp and perfect for scooping. Absolutely worth the price. Chicken Mole Rich, deep, and comforting. The mole sauce had that classic chocolatey warmth with just the right seasoning, poured over a tender chicken leg quarter and served with rice. It felt like a hug from someone's abuela. The whole experience felt intentional--from the ambiance to the plating. Huge thanks to the staff for making our visit so enjoyable. We'll definitely be back to try more! Lola's is a vibe, and the food backs it up. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Lola's Beach Cantina in East Beach is my new favorite spot for a good happy hour! I stopped by on a Thursday and was genuinely impressed by how lively and fun the atmosphere was. The place was poppin with by 5PM. The decor is super chic and beachy. I loved the vibes. Their happy hour deals are great. 50% off select appetizers and $5.99 drink specials. I ordered a corona light, not even sure if that was on happy hour but it sure is my favorite beer when at a Mexican spot! my friend and I split the surf n turf nachos, which were out of this world. They were topped with carne asada, grilled chicken, chorizo, and shrimp, queso, fresh pico de gallo, sour cream, and a honey chipotle drizzle. So much flavor in each bite. My friend ordered a house margarita and her feedback was 10/10. The staff were extremely friendly too, which added to the positive experience. I can't wait to come back for a full dinner soon. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area, or need a spot to go after the beach!

Yelp
So after a HORRIBLE yelp experience at Coastal Country, my friends and I walked here because we were hungry. The crowd was definitely older. But our server McKenzie was perfect! Super friendly and patient. We happened to stumble onto National tequila day, go us. The decor was cute and the place was clean. The food was AMAZING, the guac was homemade and tasty, the chips were fresh unlike the OTHER place down the road. lol so on National tequila day, I ordered a banana bread old fashioned (I never drink bourbon). But it was so good and tasted just like the name. The girls ordered margs and they were well made, they didn't have the artificial 'mix' taste. June ordered the chicken quesadillas and she loved them. We would definitely come back here. Also, OHIO fans? Hmmmm lol.

Yelp
Upscale Mexican was delicious, prices were appropriate. Margaritas-I had two but barely any alcohol. Other than that, it was worth the visit!

Yelp
Cute place in OV. Stopped in for lunch. Server was great and our food came fast. Servings were good size and food was tasty.

Yelp
Wow! I love this spot! Drinks were strong which was awesome! The service was fast and friendly! THE FOOOD IS TO DIE FOR! I absolutely loved this place, it will definitely be a good to especially this summer! The spot was very beachy vibes given the location and it fit perfectly.

Yelp
Quaint and better than your average cantina. Ordered a reposado and tacos. The restaurant was vibrant aesthetically and well populated for a Tuesday night. Staff and bartender were friendly. The tacos were good but not write home to yo mama good. I wanted to try something new like the octopus taco. It wasn't for my taste buds but good flavors. The ceviche was also not for my taste buds but it had good flavors. More tomato sauce based than lime/lemon juice. I would like to come again hoping to upgrade this review!

Yelp
Visited Lola's after a beach day! The restaurant is very cute aesthetically.. we loved the decor. The menu has lots of options, and they are fairly inexpensive. We came for margaritas, and we were not disappointed. They have 15 flavors, so we tried guava and blackberry. Both were very good and refreshing. We also had the guacamole and took elote and churros to go! While the service was fine, we noticed the staff seems.... A bit dry, unenthused. I also wish they had a better outside seating area, but unfortunately that isn't doable. The current one is outside the front door as you're walking in. Will definitely frequent this spot this summer after days at the beach!

Yelp
I love the atmosphere at Lola's but the food was not as good as I had hoped! We got the carne asada tacos lots of fat in the meat per the 11year old self proclaimed taco expert! She normally can down 6 on corn tortillas. She didn't even finish hers. Then we had the kids chicken tacos with fries. Again the other 11 year old was not impressed and they literally had no toppings or sauce. I got the lobster, shrimp and scallop with Mexican rice. There was so much seasoning on it I left seafood on my plate and the rice was rice with bell pepper flavors! I have only had the ceviche and tortilla soup here to compare to and they were on point some of the best I had in Virginia so we came again. Being a Texas girl I have eaten lots of Mexican and I was very disappointed this time! Don't rule it out I think there may have been a different chef last night! I will definitely give the place another chance because the staff are Outstanding and my last visit was good! It was a pick up order then and I didn't get to review as I had sick kids wanting their soup!

Yelp
If you are anywhere nearby, this is a must-do place for some really fantastic food and beverages. Far more spacious inside than it looks from outside and well appointed and decorated. Staff is awesome and the menu is stunningly full of great choices page after page. Had the fajita burrito that was one of the best tasting meals I've had in years. The taco trios were amazing looking that were also ordered. Margaritas are fairly well done. Good selection of tap beers. Something here to fit fussy tastes for anyone. Impressed, and for me that's a hard thing I reserve for the best I see. Don't hesitate, it's well worthwhile. UPDATE. So the next day I go, it's an opposite experience. Never have I had a more disgusting carneasada plate. Dry seasoned flank steak, no pico no anything that I'd normally see. Sent it back and just too disgusting to want to order anything else. Same comment from another in our party. So out of 5 of us, only one had something that was ok. Chicken nachos lack in actual chips. Same with the general chips and salsa. They're great, but I get that Wendy's slogan in mind of "Where's the chips?" Been to a lot of this type of place and that was by a mile the worst carneasada plate ever. Now questioning if I dare return. BTW the margaritas are ok, but hella pricing.

Yelp
Atmosphere of the restaurant is super cute, had the guacamole as an appetizer really really good . Chile relleno with goat cheese and quinoa so good . Customer service was okay . Quality of the food make the average customer service okay

Yelp
Lola's Cantina is a great beachside spot for Mexican cantina fare. With great breakfast/brunch items and something for everyone on the menu, it's an awesome spot for a casual dinner by the beach!

John J.

Yelp
Pretty sad. I have been looking forward to trying this spot out. We finally did last night. The parking lot was full so I drove around and found a spot in the back. I noticed on the back of the building that the door had "Lola's" on it, so I thought it was a rear entrance. I entered and went through the restaurant and found my friend seated outside. The owner came out and asked if I was the one who just came in the back door and I said yes. He, in a rude tone told me that was not an entrance. I told him it was my first time being there and I saw the Lola's sign on the door and just thought it was a back entrance. Instead of saying something like "I'm so glad you made it in for a first visit or welcome in", he had be right and follow-up again in a rude tone telling me that was not an entrance. Again I told him first time and wasn't aware and then he just walked off. I enjoy eating out and trying new places, and we are happy to pay good money for good food. No matter how good the food is, what I will not do is go back to a restaurant where the owner has so much business that he can afford to not welcome and be rude to customers. Had I not been meeting a friend there I would have just left and went to one of the many restaurants close by that has friendlier service.

Yelp
This is by far the best food in Ocean View. Mario and his team consistently knock it out of the park. I eat there at least 3x per week and everything is exceptional! Customers rave about the food quality. I always sit at the bar, so I have a pretty good idea of service etc. they're always on point. I went to Jesse's today because Lola's is closed on Monday and literally got sick. The Carne Asada came out in 3 minutes, which should have been a huge red flag. LOLA'S is the #1 choice is OV! Period.....
google avatar

Abbie D.

Yelp
The food and location are excellent. However, the service is astoundingly bad, they incorrectly tally the bill, ignore tables and are overall very rude to customers. I can get good food from a restaurant that has polite servers elsewhere. Genuinely, the only thing stopping me from returning is the rude and distant service. I would advise going to a different restaurant, it's not worth it.

Yelp
I'm a fan. Husband and I visited on a Thursday afternoon in November, probably around 4ish o'clock. Restaurant and bar wasn't packed so we took a seat at the bar. The decor of this place is super cute. The space reminded me of a restaurant I frequented when I lived in San Diego. This is an instagrammable restaurant. Drinks so good! I had a mule that was served a in terra cotta cup which kept my drink cold. Beer selection was great as well. Bartender was great that day. We started off with the Esquites which I recommend to start with. The flavor was really good and we appreciated the presentation. I had Lola's Chicken plate. It was really good. Like good, good. Husband had a Cali burrito. He was initially disappointed because it was not presented as a burrito that he was normally accustomed to that was wrapped up... after he took a bit, he was in a food coma few minutes later. The burrito did not disappoint him the least. Flavor was delicious. It was a lot of food between the two of us. We probably could've split a meal. We will be back to visit this location. I would recommend visiting this place during off peak hours, such as happy hour to enjoy great food and service.

Ron W.

Yelp
Great restaurant in Ocean View. Wife spent time in Cali and is a Mexican Foodie. She loved it, no better stamp of approval! I thought it was excellent as well, got the Steak Fajita which had more steak than I've ever seen. Worth the trip!

Yelp
From the outside, there's not much parking shared with 2 other businesses potentially 3 more stores once leased. Right outside are a couple of tables for those who dine outside. Lola's has a cute vibe, modern, relaxed feel. You're greeted with a smile, you see merchandise shirts hanging behind the counter. The place is much bigger than it seems from the outside. I ordered to go: the Mediterranean salad. Took 15 minutes to be ready. The salad was fresh although drenched in dressing! Wish they put the dressing to the side....
google avatar

Bridget C.

Yelp
The cheesy rice and shrimp is unbelievable. Great margs, good queso, good service. And nice and close to East Beach!
google avatar

Savannah B.

Yelp
Nachos were to die for. As we were walking in, someone outside recommended them to us and they absolutely did not disappoint. Enchiladas were very good too! I wish the Tamarind Margarita had more flavor to it, but honestly the food was so good that I didn't even care. Staff was friendly too.

Jeannie P.

Yelp
The nachos amazing!! Good service. Cute place. Have had great margaritas at different times. Love the location at ocean view

Yelp
Lola's is a cute spot right in a more up and coming part of Norfolk. The menu has a decent variety of different things (all not created equal...read more). My husband and I came here last night and started with a mango frozen margarita and a spicy cucumber one. The frozen marg seemed to have been submerged in sub-zero temps, as it was probably THE coldest drink I have ever tasted. Not a bad thing, just almost TOO cold. My cucumber marg should probably have been served in a rocks glass with some sort of rim; instead it comes in a pint glass with way too much ice. $14 for 3/4 cup of ice is ludicrous. The flavor, however, was very nice. We had the taquitos for an appetizer which had a good crunch, but lacked flavor. The guac they serve it with was kind of the only redeeming quality. My husband got a carnitas burrito which was SO amazingly tasty. The sauces and everything were just spot on. My tilapia tacos missed the mark, however. It just came with a slaw (which I think had oregano?? Sort of an odd spice for a Latino restaurant) and the fish. I had to load the hot sauce on to give it any kind of flavor. Definitely a disappointment there. We ended with an in-house made blueberry cheesecake parfait which was out of this world. Highly recommend that. Overall this place needs to make some changes (including turning down the music just a hair) but also has some solid options. Our waitress was great! We would return to try some other items.

Katelyn M.

Yelp
0 stars My family and I are on vacation from Indiana. We came here to have a nice dinner, the waiter was extremely disrespectful. The other servers were talking trash to each other about our party. We had to ask 5 times for a glass of water before we got it. Everyone we came in contact with was extremely rude with nasty attitudes. So we told them we were just going to pay for the drinks and leave. They then gave us a bill for our food as well, even though it hadn't been brought to us and we had ordered 10 minutes prior to this. We stated we wouldn't be paying for food we're not eating and that we'll pay for the drinks. They then called the cops and followed us outside to argue with us some more.

Yelp
A pleasant surprise for brunch. We came on Sunday and sat down to a terrific feast and wonderful service. I had the Cowboy Omelette and my friend had the Chile Verde. We shared a side of fried sweet plantains. We can't recommend both enough. They were terrific. This place will definitely go into our regular routine for meals. One of the best Mexican food restaurants in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
I visited Lola's early in January and I have to say that I will probably not return. Ordered the chips and salsa that came with white sauce as well. That was pretty standard. Then decided to try the Spinach Chorizo and Crab Dip. That dish was delicious, thankfully it was filling as my selection for the main dish left me wanting. I ordered the Tacos de Carne Asada. When the waitress put that plate down in front of me I thought "Seriously, you must be joking". I'm not a chef, but I could look at those tacos and see that the meat was dried out. I did take a bite and my suspension was confirmed. I honestly don't know why someone would send that plate out with over cooked meat. I don't think I will be back. Two stars because the waitress was so nice, answered all of my questions and gave service with a smile.

Yelp
I have been to Lola's twice lately and am ready to go back to try more of their menu! I'll start with the vibe. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and clean. I have been mid afternoon both times and we were seated right away. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. I ordered the guacamole and chips and beef tacos from the happy hour menu the first time. I was DELIGHTED by both. The guacamole and chips were both so fresh and delicious. The beef tacos were well filled and perfectly balanced and satisfying with a squeeze of lime. I really enjoyed their white wine sangria. My husband enjoyed his chori-pollo. I tasted his black beans and they were very flavorful! My next trip I got the guacamole and chips again because they were SO good and tried the chicken tortilla soup. The soup had such a rich delicious broth! Very nice. My friend got a chicken taco salad that came out exactly as she ordered it (which is unusual) and was LOADED with really delicious chicken! My margarita was yummy and not overpowered by tequila which is how I like it. I have been very impressed by this restaurant and will be back again soon!

Yelp
Food was good with quick service. It is not directly on the beach but close enough to walk off dinner after

Yelp
YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE CHIPS & SALSA!! This should have been my sign to not even eat here because it's a Mexican restaurant where chips and salsa are not included?! Can you say RED FLAG?!?! It's a cute spot located near East Beach that advertises Mexican food, drinks, and sports. As I walk in I'm greeted by a hostess who asks "bar or dine in?" The difference between the two is a half wall partition. We sit in "dining" (I use quotes because it's really all one area). We ordered Taquitos (chicken only), Chicken quesadilla, Birria quesadilla, Peach Bellini, and a watermelon mule. The drinks were great! That's probably what's keeping this review at a whopping 3/5 stars. The taquitos appetizer was blah. It lacked seasoning and the sour cream that was sprinkled overtop was watery. The guacamole was the only "sauce" it came with. I would have loved to see it with a salsa or maybe queso. The chicken quesadilla was just your average chicken quesadilla. My boyfriend enjoyed the birria quesadilla which had great portions. No sides on the entrees. I wish they would have giving us rice. Maybe I would have giving more stars had the food came with sides? For two people, the bill was $75! Which come to think of it didn't seem worth it. 3/10 do not recommend.

Kori W.

Yelp
Being from SoCal I went into this endeavor thinking it was going to be fantastic and I'd definitely say it was less than that. I wanted a carnitas chile verde burrito. It came out covered in queso sauce and sour cream. There was next to zero chile verde sauce, even on the inside. It was also so spicy I could barely eat it I'm use to HOT! You had to pay for the chips and salsa! The chips came out in a small frying like basic- which a cute presentation but they didn't taste good. It was like they were fired in some kind of weird oil. The salsa was fire roasted, to be fair that it who it was advertised, but not tasty. My husband is super picky and they did a great job on his burrito which isn't easy. I had a skinny margarita and that was good but I feel like it had too much ice. The restaurant is located in a very convenient spot and is super cute inside. Their merch and advertising is cute too I just wish the food held up to the other. Sadly, we won't be returning.

Yelp
Solid five star award for Lola's! This place is right along the beach, intimate, but has a good sized nice menu! I was really surprised by the variety of options-full bar, brunch with egg dishes and yummy fresh seafood. There are so many choices including vegan. Great choice for small groups and family dining out! Enjoy!

Yelp
Great place, great staff, let's put prices on the menu. This is certainly a locals spot for "East beachers" of Oceanview. I feel most comfortable in diverse spaces, I felt extremely comfortably with the staff because of it. Drink menu was great, we sat at the bar and conversed with the bar staff. They were friendly and helpful. They also obliged my husbands request to put two separate football games on two different tvs. The decor was beautifully decorated, the colors were vibrant and welcoming. The sitting was strategically placed in such a way that there was space between customers. Although I only orders chips in dip, it seemed to be fresh. The chips were clearly made by the restaurant and not poured from a bag. I'm elated that OV has another go to spot for good eats, drinks, and conversation.

Yelp
I do love this place!! I just wish there were more vegetarian options. I ordered a side of black beans and they tasted as if they were cooked in pork belly. It was awful. Their guacamole is outstanding!! And the staff is outstanding.
google avatar

Dan C.

Yelp
Late lunch on a weekday to try the octopus, a chicken toco salad, a cheese enchilada and their fabulous guacamole. We sat at the bar. I thoroughly enjoyed the octopus and my wife and I agree that the guacamole was terrific. My wife thought her selections were pretty good, but wished the lettuce in the salad was on top of the bowl rather than underneath everything. Staff was friendly, but not particularly attentive. The restaurant was fairly empty, three others were sitting at the bar and a couple, at a table. I had to ask twice for salt and hot sauce and would have liked to have a second beer.

Yelp
As promised we came back within a month! The second time did not disappoint! Raul provided amazing service, was polite and attentive. My partner said his fajita burrito might be the best burrito he's ever had! I got the fried tilapia tacos. Everything was cooked to perfection. The drinks were delicious and the guacamole was excellent just like last time! We appreciate the chill ambiance of this place including beautiful decor. Even though it was close to closing time we did not feel rushed at all. Bravo Lola's!

Yelp
Unfortunately, last night was the first time I'd been at Lola's in probably 3 months. I had forgotten why this is my favorite restaurant in Ocean View. We took our sister-in-law out who had to relocate from La due to the fires and had a wonderful dinner all the food was exquisite, but I can speak specifically about the shared Ceviche Tower, and my shrimp burrito entree. OUTSTANDING!!!

Dav R.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing every time. Drinks on point highly recommend the hibiscus margarita and the Camarones Zarandeados Best shrimp dish I've had in a very very long time

Yelp
Very disappointed with the crab spinach dip. The price for the portion size wasn't really filling and it basically tasted like hummus.

Yelp
After a few hours at the beach, we stumbled upon Lola's and decided to try it because it looked so cute and well-kept from the outside. FOOD: I ordered the spicy strawberry margarita and aguachile. For context, their menu says the owners have roots in Jalisco, Mexico -- where my family is from -- so that's why I took a chance and ordered the aguachile because that's a typical dish from out there. Unfortunately, I could only stomach to eat three shrimp. They served it to use with chips, so I tried maybe just dipping the chips in the lime juice, but I couldn't even stomach that. It was like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for too long; it didn't taste like it was marinated in lime juice anymore. I ended up giving it back :( BUT the margarita was delicious! It wasn't spicy, but it was still good. LOCATION: I'm impressed with how hip and modern this location is. They have a long bar with plenty of seats and plenty of tables. The location is very clean! Would I come back? I think I would, but I'll just have margaritas and maybe something safe that isn't hard to mess up, like a burrito or fajitas.

Elaine L.

Yelp
I got the al pastor tacos and a house margarita. The tacos were delicious! They were very flavorful and had a nice spicy kick. The margarita was very disappointing. I hate to say it, but it was the worst cocktail I've ever had. It was bitter, not tart or sweet at all and I couldn't taste any lime or tequila. It was kind of like drinking a glass of iced dishwater. The server was very friendly but disappeared after serving the food and we sat around for about 30 minutes after finishing waiting for the check. The tacos were so good I'll definitely go again, but I won't be ordering a drink.

Yelp
Would rather keep this place a secret but that's not good for business. Happy hour is probably one of the best in the entire Hampton Roads area. Freshly made food! 3-6 the appetizers are 1/2 price! Drinks are ridiculously good! They know how to make a darn good margarita! Ambience and service is tops! Really a great restaurant to enjoy some good food and cocktails. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I've have been dying to try out this new spot located on East Beach being that it's close to home. I checked out the menu in advance and it looked promising. I was able to find parking right away, we were greeted by Earl at the door and chose to sit at the bar. Earl was also our bartender. I liked the decor and color scheme of the restaurant and I was eager to get a drink and a quick bite to eat. To our luck we just arrived before Happy Hour ended. It's from (4-6) only if you are sitting at the bar. There are some $5.99 drink and food specials in addition to appetizers being 50% off ( not including the Guacamole) Some people at the bar raved about the Nachos so I quickly placed and order and topped it with chicken. I also ordered a AguaChile. Which can be described sort of like a Shrimp ceviche. This was supposed to be served over saltines but came with tortilla chips instead. The nachos were ok. No huge wow factor. I may have them again but the chips seemed stale to me. On the other hand the shrimp AguaChile was most definitely. packing in both flavor and presentation . Shrimp were very under seasoned and dish truly tasted like water. I can see how the saltines May have been a better suited accompaniment than tortilla chips. They could've added some flavor I guess ‍. Although these tortilla chip seemed fresher this appetizer was a huge disappointment. I normally would love this dish. The texture of the shrimp was good tho. Definitely not worth $21 at full price. Didn't even feel it was worth half at 50% off for happy hour. I ordered some plantains and sautéed spinach and arugula to take home and those sides were good. The hi light of our experience was truly the service and the drinks. Earl was a wonderful and attentive bartender. He made us a few drinks. My personal fave was his old fashion. I requested it unsmoked. My friend like her house made sangria as well. Overall I feel like this restaurant is Definately lacking when it comes to delivering those flavors on the food. For what is being charged I would've expected better quality and execution from the kitchen .. The cocktails was better than the food hands down which is something I had already been pre warned about before coming. All my stars go to Earl for giving high quality service and making AMAZING Old Fashions . I didn't mind paying $14 for each one because they were just that good.

Yelp
Tacos and gauc were very good. They charge for everything they can whereas authentic Mexican restaurants promote community. They asked if we wanted hot sauce after bringing us out our food which we said yes then charged us a dollar for each one.

Yelp
Service 5 stars- we got seated right away with waters on our table, drank and refilled bc my fiance is a camel who only chugs water that's been served to him. It's quite bazar. Anyway, seated right away, we got there right before happy hour ended so our waitress let us know what the happy hour menu was and we ordered right away. Skinny hibiscus margarita was extremely sweet and syrupy which made me feel like it was not a skinny. It had the nostalgia of cool aid 1 Gin'gly was also some kind of lite herb infused gin drink that was just that, lite and refreshing Chips and salsa are $3. The white sauce was gelatinous and cold. Your standard American white sauce with salsa. Fish ceviche appetizer. Served on a corn or flour tostada that was too hard to eat with the ceviche so we used the chips from the chips and salsa we ordered. It had good flavor. It was drizzled with balsamic which was a different touch Chicken tacos was off of the happy hour menu for $5.99. Flour tortillas was fine. Not the best and the chicken was a little dry and bland. It had red onion and cilantro served on it and a side of green chile sauce but could have used some cheese or ...flavor. I wanted the shrimp tacos but I didn't want to spend $18 on 3 tacos having a feeling it was going to be mediocre arroz con pollo- was served with a bed of chopped lettuce and tomato separated like the Red Sea from the Mexican rice, cheese and chicken. The chicken was again, a little bland and dry. Same chicken from the soft tacos.

Yelp
Hey update. Open now 12 days!! Daily happy hour. 4-6 pm. Yay! Today I had the esquites. $14 and taquitos $13. Both 1/2 price for happy hr. The corn w lime creama was terrific ! However the side dish of roasted corn actually tasted like burnt corn. probably (hopefully) an rare occurrence. granted you need a side of dental floss.. (Insert a dental clinic using this as a marketing tool and supplying branded floss w each dish ordered !!) Ok onto the taquitos. Certainly a competent volume for appetizer. 1 chix one beef. Shredded meat. But it was more food processed meat than shredded - the chix more so than the beef. I asked for dipping salsa. It was Smokey n mild but flavorful. The beef had a mild sweetness making me think Mexican cinnamon was in it. The guacamole n lettuce was fresh. By far the best thing was the super flavorful corn w the pretty husk presentation! Sat at bar today. Had a nice chat w some east beachers. Will I be back? Of course!

Yelp
I ordered the Ceviche and it did not disappoint. The taste was perfect. If I would recommend anything to the kitchen, it would be to cut the pieces of fish smaller but otherwise, the dish was appetizing. My wife ordered the Fajitas and the meat was exquisite. We then topped our dinner with a tres leches cake . The ambiance here is outstanding and we decided to stay and watch the game (Lakers vs. Heat) at the bar. We had several drinks and ordered Birria Tacos. These tacos were no joke and authentic. If you want true Mexican food, this is the place. We loved everything about it and highly recommend it!

Yelp
Our first time visiting this spot since it opened about a month ago. We live in OV and are so excited to see something new and fresh in our neighborhood. We walked in on a Friday night and were sat immediately. The bar area looks so inviting however I will say the rest of the restaurant is somewhat uncomfortable in seating and loud. I would say this is due to the metal furniture and concrete floors. Our server Brooke was super attentive and sweet. She was present throughout our dining experience and made ever effort to accommodate any of our requests. We ordered drinks. I got the patron craft cocktail which on the menu wasn't labeled as a margarita but definitely tasted super sweet like one. So if that's not your thing- I would pass on this beverage. I ended up ordering a ranch water cocktail which isn't on their menu but our server was super fast about asking the bartender if they could make it. This was exactly what I needed. We ordered chips and salsa and a small guac. I will say this place will not leave you wanting for chips. AND THE CHIPS! They are SO GOOD. I feel like chips are so hit and miss at most places and these are a definite hit. They came out crispy, hot and not oily. It made me wish we just ordered nachos for our meal. The salsa is good. I didn't care for the white sauce they offered with them.. it tasted sweet to me but that could just be me. The guac was kind of runny and super onion forward. I couldn't tell if it was being made in house. We ordered a chicken quesadilla and the Birra tacos for our main. Both came out super fast and were SO TASTY! I wished I saved more room for them but the chips got me. The Birra was very yummy. Not too spicy but had a great flavor without all the grease. The quesadilla was full of grilled chicken and had a side of guac. All in all we will definitely return and I look forward to seeing their menu evolve!

Yelp
I've been to this establishment multiple times and each time the service is wonderful and the food even better. I also enjoy the aesthetic. Overall this restaurant is one of my absolute favorites.
