10 Restaurants to Try Between the Drive Between Los Angeles and Las Vegas

"For those looking beyond In-N-Out Barstow, there’s Lola’s Kitchen, a colorful strip mall gem with hours that stretch from 4 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. That means the family-run restaurant is a convenient stop whether it’s for huevos rancheros or chile verde." - Eater Staff

Google
Closer to a 4.5 than a 4 but that’s not an option, but you gotta get nuts to get a full 5. They should really have a better scale. Anyways, menu prices are higher than advertised and there’s a service charge or something for a dollar I didn’t ask for what, but they give you free chips and salsa and are stellar people. And the food is solid

Google
Small little restaurant in Barstow, CA that serves Mexican dishes. Got a California Burrito and it was good. Stuffed with meat and servers gave us chips and salsa while we waited.

Only a half mile off the 15 when traveling to and from Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The place is clean, the food is delicious and their prices are excellent. Albert has hired excellent employees like Elijah and the women who take your order as well as cook it. I’ve been stopping here for years and have never been disappointed in my food, some of the best red chili sauce I’ve ever had. Coffee is good and you’ll be recommending this place to your friends when traveling on the 15 past Barstow/

Google
The website says one price. When you get there it's double the price. The food is disgusting. There is much better places to have Mexican food in barstow. Lola chola is not recommended..$ 24.00 😝

Rebecca Noll

Google
I've been here a couple times and I if I'm being quite honest that amount of money that you pay with the food that you get it's not worth it. For two people we can easily spend up to $70 for just a small meal. Don't get me wrong the food is good but it does not equivalent to the price point. Imma try to drive 30 minutes up the road to Julia's and get the same thing for the same price for a month better atmosphere and more food.

Google
On the way back from Vegas. Craving Mexican food around rest areas. Food was WAY over priced for a burrito. Liquid mess of watery stuff and burrito falling apart. I tucked back in the bottom where lots fell out including the watery guac. My daughter chicken was dried boiled shredded chicken that much have been prepped days before. The soft taco was stale. Everything was gross. This confirms other reviews. I will never come there again. $24 for 1 taco and a nasty burrito.

Google

Yelp
We had not been in Lola's in several years. We stopped in last week and found was fantastic as usual however we were disappointed because they only make their best dish, mole, on Thursday. We had been luck to stop by on a Thursday on our last visit and the mole was fantastic! Since we are only in the neighborhood when traveling we need to file that little note away. I had a chile relleno and it was excellent and the food was quickly. My wife had a huge Cgicken Tortas that was very tasty. The service was top notch. 5*s for quality and service.

Yelp
Stop by Lola's kitchen from my drive back from Las Vegas to San Diego, CA. My husband was craving Mexican food and I came across Lola's on yelp. The photos looked amazing so I decided to give it a go. We were a little unsure about the place when we arrived, but decided to walk in. Turned out to be a very clean restaurant and the restrooms were good too. We were acknowledged and welcomed as soon as we walked in. I placed our order, food arrived and we devoured everything! The tomatillo salsa was so delicious and had a good spice to it that I even bought some of it to bring it back home. I will be returning to Vegas in 4 weeks and cannot wait to stop for a bite to eat again. I never thought I'd say that I cannot wait to be back in Barstow in 4 weeks to revisit Lola's kitchen. lol To the staff at Lola's , you're doing an amazing job with serving very authentic Mexican food. Gracias!!!!

Yelp
Whether you're en route to Las Vegas or on your way home from it. Stop enjoy a plate of authentic Mexican Food. The customer service is great. It is a small hole in the wall but those are the best spots to enter. The area is nice and clean. Restrooms are available and there is plenty of parking.

Yelp
Came here on the way back from Wyoming and it was so good! Big quesadillas for the kids and good burritos. Will definitely stop here the next time we're in the area!

Yelp
Great eats, patriots, clean, near the new Tesla Supercharger, what more could one want?

Yelp
We stumbled across this small authentic Mexican restaurant on our way home and it didn't disappoint. At first glance, you wouldn't think to stop there as it's in a small run down shopping center.... Oh, but I'm glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious and truly authentic. The service was also very fast with super friendly employees. I can see why all the locals kept walking in to enjoy a fresh meal. :)
google avatar

Yelp
A bit out of the way from highway. But quite authentic. Their California burrito and the Nacho plate were awesome. The nachos were really fresh and guac was awesome on it. A small place and can get crowded quickly. Fast service. But not very organized. Don't expect that they come to ask for water. Also, I wish two or three hot or mild sauces. They had only one sauce: it was hot and it was okay: not very flavorful.

Yelp
What a find this was! We were immediately welcomed by a friendly, rockstar employee. He explained the ordering process to us since we were new customers. I ordered enchiladas verdes, which came with a side of beans and rice. The enchiladas had excellent flavor and just a hint of kick. My husband ordered carne asada tacos, and he said the meat was flavorful and tender. The chips were wonderful, and the beans and rice were perfection! The restaurant is clean, bright, and cheerful. It is part of a strip mall. It was decorated in a summery style with little toy pails hanging from the ceiling and American flag banners adding to the celebratory atmosphere. I don't know if we'll ever be in this area again, but if we are, we will definitely eat here!

Yelp
This was my second time in to Lola's kitchen, and honestly the first time made such an impression on me that I had to scour Yelp and find the name of it, since I could not initially remember. This place in Barstow is such a gem, in a totally unassuming parking lot. The first visit we were on our way to Orange County and this second time we were in our way back to Vegas, and it was my first time bringing hubs along. We're both vegetarian, and honestly there's not much listed on the menu as being such but they don't cook their beans in lard here, they use water so that was the green light. I ordered myself three bean and cheese tostadas, he went with the vegetarian burrito, and we got a quesadilla and fries for our littles and some chips and salsa to all share. Since we had been in the car for just under 3 hours, it was time to stretch our legs so we opted to dine in. The seating area is not huge but they do have several tables to sit in, and a few booth seats. The interior is clean, and their bathrooms are as well. Now onto the star of the show, the food! Their beans are SO flavorful, the tostadas were made fresh and you can taste it. Their red salsa is AMAZING, garlicky and the way I prefer, not chunky but made smooth. Gosh, it is really so delicious and my husband agreed. He quickly ate 2/3's of his burrito and said he enjoyed it so much. We definitely have a new spot to stop at now when we're passing through Barstow.

Yelp
The best Mexican food in the High Desert. It is a small space with big taste. The tacos are excellent. The chile verde is amazing. Love their beans and rice, they are full of flavor. Definitely a must!!

Yelp
Our yearly visit to Lola's Kitchen on the way home from Las Vegas. The food is always good and does not disappoint. You order at the register. Your order will be brought to the table. The service is friendly and quick. Their refried beans and rice are quite good. I don't normally eat the side of rice but I like their rice. It's a small resto that is clean snd bright, not to mention that the air conditioning is welcome on a hot day! Enjoy!

Yelp
On our way back from Havasu, we yelped this restaurant for lunch. If you're on 40 headed West you'd go North on Main Street, cross over 15, and turn left into a strip mall. Along the way are lots of boarded-up buildings; mostly restaurants. At first we wondered if Lola's was still in business. The anchor store had been an Albertsons, now derelict. Other non-vacant shops flanked it, wig salon, a doggie rescue. But it was open and we walked in to find small tables with plenty of occupants. We selected a longer table close to the door and along the wall adorned with a giant mirror. The problem with that location was, as people went in and out of the place, the cold wind whipped through to give us a chill. On the door handle hung a strap with sleigh bells. Of course those are kid magnets. Parents open the door and leave it standing open as they adoringly watch their kid diddle it while we freeze. Awe such a cute kid... and AH parents. We were seated no longer than 3 minutes when a nice lady brought us chips and a puréed salsa. Very good; not too spicy with enough cohesion to stick to the chip. The chips are hand cut and fried in house. The process is to order and pay at the counter. They bring the food when ready. I had the chicken enchiladas. Oh. yum. Nice deep green sauce on top and juicy filling. I also ordered iced tea. It was freshly brewed and strong enough. My H had a relleno and enchilada combination. He's a connoisseur of fine rellenos and loved it. Its sauce was rich and almost a mole. It looked great but I didn't taste it; I was concentrating on my own task. We got out of there for about $30 -- pretty good for today's economy. Go there for lunch, you'll be happy. Just don't sit near the door.

Yelp
Fantastic experience! A group of 5 of us were driving back from the Grand Canyon and stopped here for lunch on a Monday. Immediately upon entering, the friendly host greeted us and handed menus over, explaining that we could order at the counter whenever we were ready. Everyone working here was so cheerful and efficient! It was easy to tell by the wide range and volume of people coming in to order that this place has earned its good reputation. The free chips and salsa were perfect to munch on while we waited the few minutes for our dishes, including the California burrito, a chicken burrito, beef flautas, Milanese torta, and machaca plate. Everything was delicious- well seasoned, prompt, and hot. High recommend if you're ever in Barstow, these people deserve the business. Wishing Lola's Kitchen prosperity and perpetual good vibes! Thanks for infusing our road trip with good energy.

Yelp
The only bright spot in my traveling between the Las Vegas Valley where I live and Los Angeles is stopping at Lola's for breakfast or lunch in Barstow. I have been doing this for years and it's only a half mile from the 15 and so worth it. I've now told all my friends and it's become a regular stop to and from LA for us. Stopped here on Monday, two days ago and although I missed Albert, it was great to see Elijah and sit down for a delicious meal. The women who take your order and cook the food are so gracious and even made a fresh pot of really good coffee for me. I have them make a bean and cheese tostado with a fried egg on top and it was just what I wanted. Service is fast and the food can't be beat, I don't know what's in the red chili sauce they make for your tortilla chips but it's the best I've ever had, wonderful flavor and I use it no matter what I order. So do yourself a favor and pick up or dine in when on your way to LA or to Vegas, you won't be disappointed. Thanks Elijah for remembering me and hello to Albert who, Elijah says is the best boss ever

Carol H.

Yelp
Great food from Lola's. Very clean and tidy, too. We ordered Gloria's Special with asada meat, as we are Keto only it was perfect. Plenty of meat, cheese, sour cream and guacamole all on a bed of chopped lettuce and a few fresh tomato pieces. Would be a pleasure to visit again on our next trip south.

Tony B.

Yelp
Food is great but they stopped doing Taco Tuesday and the website says they still are! It may just be an update oversight but it results in FALSE ADVERTISING!
google avatar

Aaron P.

Yelp
Had the chicken enchilada, which was great the food and service top quality. Great Mom and pop Mexican restaurant. It was busy when I got there and continued to be busy during my meal. Ambience wasn't anything spectacular but fine for a little restaurant, clean and all that. If you want some good authentic Mexican. This is a place to go here in Barstow.

Trinity L.

Yelp
Most amazing burrito ever! And amazing service from , Elijah! In fact the burrito was a recommendation from Elijah and did not fail!
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
We would have never known this was here if we didn't yelp it. It's kinda off the highway and in a strip mall kind of area. But I'm so glad we found it! The food was great, and the portions were large. The flavors were amazing with textures for days! The light and fluffy flautas were crunchy and full of delicious shredded chicken. The chilaquiles green sauce was great, with crunchy tortilla chips and the carne asada. We ordered the chilaquiles and flautas. The lady helping us was friendly, and greeted us immediately when we walked in. The food came out fast. What a nice place to stop on the way home!
google avatar

Ruby H.

Yelp
Huevos a la mexicana were delicious. The food came out relatively fast. The waiter was very attentive.
google avatar

Hanna S.

Yelp
It's worth driving a few minutes away from I-15 for this friendly, family-run place. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. We loved the legit refried beans. The chicken was tender and pleasantly mild, but try the shredded beef, which has a lot of oomph. Even the free salsa is an earthy step up from a typical Mexican dive. Super quick service and huge portions. My husband and I split one enchilada plate and had plenty. An extra thumbs up for the clean and bright bathrooms. They look recently renovated, with pretty tile and nice fixtures. The bathrooms are fancier than the dining room!
google avatar

Tamara S.

Yelp
My friends and I were passing through Barstow on our way to Las Vegas and we stumbled upon this place for Breakfast! Omg! When I tell you this was the best chilaquiles I've ever eaten - it was amazing! My friends all loved their food as well! The green sauce is so delicious. So on our way home, we had to stop to dry dinner as well! And I cleaned my plate. I left no crumbs lol! The employees were all so nice! The food was served quickly! 10/10, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
google avatar

Charles A.

Yelp
Very clean, yummy fresh food, and friendly service. Had the Machaca and Beef Quesadillas. Both were great. The free chips and salsa were also wonderful. Order at the counter.
google avatar

Natalie A.

Yelp
INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS! It was my first time here, thankfully ChatGpt suggested this place during our road-trip to Sedona from LA! It's right off the freeway which was PERFECT! Ample parking since it's in a LARGE strip mall ! Great menu! My husband and I loved the flavor! It all tasted homemade , so tasty ! Wish I could go back for more ! The employees were so welcoming and sweet ! Was decorated SO cute for Christmas great ambiance and excellent music playing ! Will definitely be going back anytime we are near Barstow ! GREAT find! Recommend 100/10

Breanna Y.

Yelp
Customer service, horrible, and food is extremely overpriced hole in the wall for a reason
google avatar

Jaynar S.

Yelp
We loved the house-made tortilla chips! The awesome Breakfast Burrito had chorizo, eggs, and cheese. The California Burrito was good too! The inside is simple and clean. Their staff is super friendly. I recommend when stopping through Barstow.
google avatar

Reggie A.

Yelp
Took Yelp's recommendation and glad I did. Lola's chorizo, egg and cheese breakfast burritos are soooooooo good. You can tell it's going to be solid just by the appetizing aroma from the kitchen. Friendly staff. 5 STARS!
google avatar

Olive J.

Yelp
I am so happy to have found this amazing place! On my way back from Vegas I stopped in to have some lunch. Pretty small casual spot. Everything I ordered was absolutely delicious!!! The taquitos were perfect! Beans and rice were so tasty. Everything tasted so fresh, homemade, and made with love! Now for the service... The absolute sweetest staff I have ever met! The women working here are so kind and friendly I cannot express how grateful I am to have stumbled upon such a true gem! I cannot wait for my next visit!
google avatar

Carolina R.

Yelp
The food was good. I don't expect to have good service. But what makes us uncomfortable is the employees criticize us in Spanish not knowing it's my mother tongue. It start with me ask for the waiter for receipts because they missed to give to us and they criticize us why we are asking for receipts among each other. they also criticize my appearance specifically my hair and my husband. Very disrespectful things. We will not go back anymore. When we leave. They said : look they are leaving. We didn't have appetite to finish our food because of it. Their service and gossip makes the food taste so salty. Beware if you don't understand Spanish because they might be criticizing or judging you.
google avatar

joslyn s.

Yelp
I stop here almost every trip to Vegas from LA. I have had probably 20 items from either ordering or trying off family members' plates. You can't go wrong!

shawn s.

Yelp
Great food...loved the a la carte tostadas and prompt service. My guest got the chicken enchilada and chili relleno plate. Both were excellent. They have beer too. Cute, bright interior. A nice refuge on Main St.
google avatar

Eunice R.

Yelp
The service is so quick and friendly at the same time. The place is sooo cute! Halloween decorations are on point. And the food is very tasty. Delicious
google avatar

Carlos V.

Yelp
I am going to start by saying two things. I seldom give 5 stars and I really don't do a lot of restaurant Mexican food in California. I will start by talking about my enchiladas. I have to say that in general this very unassuming plate has been nothing but disappointment for me over the years because too many places just don't put the love that home cooking does. These are possibly some of the best enchiladas I have had in a long time. The green sauce was perfect, with distinct flavors, consistency and amazing subtleties. The tortillas and chicken were on point. The rice was well made, not sticky and tasteful. For the beans I will say that in general many restaurant beans leave you tasting them for days and are poorly made. I could not get enough and did not feel like I had eaten as much as I did and I finished my plate. It left me happy all the way to Orange County. This is one of the most unassuming restaurants I have run into and it's located in a place that honestly I don't think deserves the quality that this kitchen produces. The place is clean. Bathrooms, kitchen and eating area and the lovely and extremely diligent ladies working are amazing. They are sweet, thoughtful, fast, accommodating, above all hardworking. I was sadly disappointed that they only made mole on Thursdays so I guess I will have to call in sick one day to come and try this. If you are going or coming from Vegas you need to pay this place a visit and enjoy what home cooking in a restaurant is truly about.

Kristy P.

Yelp
This is a must try when in the area. I stop on my way to and from Vegas. I love everything I have tried- breakfast burritos, shredded beef burrito and enchiladas. Also, the chips and salsa are fantastic! I love fast service and friendly staff.
google avatar

Long D.

Yelp
Clean, quick, local Mexican food joint serving excellent burritos and Flautas. You come up to the counter and order. Food will be served to your table. Nice deco with tables along the wall and separate tables too. Tortilla and hot sauce are to die for

Brenda V.

Yelp
We found this place on Yelp. The food quality deserves about four stars, as we ordered the carnitas plate. However, it lacked guacamole! which is typically included with most carnitas plates. Also, there were no chips served, which is disappointing given the current prices for Mexican food. A few chips would have likely earned it a full four-star rating.
google avatar

A J.

Yelp
All the food was delicious. From the chilaquiles con asada y juevos, ground beef, bean and rice burrito and quesadilla! The chips and red salsa are so authentic, fresh and fantastic!! We were passing through and so happy we stopped!!
google avatar

Sahar N.

Yelp
Best pit stop in town! Delicious breakfast burrito, veggie burrito and California burrito. Do yourself a favor and stop here instead of a chain fast food spot. The sweetest service and super quick if you need to get back on the road! Be sure to get chips and salsa as well because the salsa has the perfect kick to it!
google avatar

Rhonda W.

Yelp
Another great yelp find. The hours posted on the outside werent correct ..it was a tiny stripmall and not many cars out front. Omg the food and service was off the hook good. I got a sapada ..tried for the first time yummmm. And a tostada which even with all the toppings stay crunchy. The flavors were amazing. Wish they would open in Ohio. Highly recommend!!!!
google avatar

Brandy R.

Yelp
Left feeling disappointed in my choice of coming to try this place. Stopped by because the Yelp reviews seemed to be promising. It seems as though the reviews are from the locals. I ordered flautas with no beans and rice. When brought to the the table, it was three taquitos ( that's what they call flautas apparently at this restaurant) ; $8 for three small fried tortillas.....They don't make fresh Jamaica (hibiscus) here. To me this restaurant was more of a fast food place because of the quality of food and service. You can choose where to sit , but you have to get up after to go and order your food.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Great food, easy off the freeway. Delicious authentic Mexican with large menu. Don't let the strip mall location scare you away!
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
I just stumbled across this gem driving through and looking for a breakfast burrito. The vacant looking parking lot when I drove up set my expectations low but when I stepped inside, I knew right away I had found something great. The gentleman that took my order was kind and the place was immaculate and cute! The restroom also immaculate and cute and then my burrito that I thought I was going to eat on the road, sent me rushing back in to order two more. The salsa was delicious and I had the chorizo breakfast burrito, which was one of the best breakfast burritos I've had in this area. No photos because I devoured it too quickly. Bravo! Just beautiful and yummy.
google avatar

Soledad M.

Yelp
Good food for the cost Service not too much with a smile Place was very clean location not too easy to find as it is tucked away in shopping center
google avatar

Nathan N.

Yelp
A nice Mexican restaurant for some relatively quick enchiladas, chilaquiles, and your other usual fare. A little pricey but the food is good.
google avatar

Anjel O.

Yelp
Unexpected gem of a restaurant. Food was fresh, well prepared, well flavored and honestly much better than the looks of the place from the outside would have you think. Ordered the chiliquiles, chili relleno, cali burrito and a quesadilla. Staff was sweet and welcoming.
google avatar

Rhonda G.

Yelp
Lola's is a total hidden gem for anyone traveling down I-15. My boyfriend and I stopped for breakfast as an alternative to the standard fast food options of Barstow and we were so grateful that we did! He had a carnitas burrito, I had chicken - both were phenomenal! Can't say enough, other than....you need to go! We'll be back!
google avatar

Jo M.

Yelp
Food was delicious But they definitely over priced it I had one carne asada burrito and enchilada plate plus two cheese quesadillas for my kids and two sodas for $85.00 !!! That's doesn't make any sense for that amount for what I ordered Good luck to the owner with those prices !!
google avatar

Beverly C.

Yelp
We wanted a little lunch break while drive to Vegas and decided to stop at Lola's. It's in a shopping strip mall and for a second we were skeptical but with the reviews we decided to get a quick bite. The interior was clean and it was pretty busy! We were greeted and found a seat immediately. You order at the register and the food gets brought out to you. The chips and salsa that comes out are so good! The salsa was a bit spicy for me but my husband enjoyed it. We both got the chicken flautas. Which is a bit deceiving bc it's like a huge chimichanga!! I was surprised but it was so good. The chicken was moist and flavorful from the salsa verde they put with it. It came with guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, cheese and pico de gallo. This is a good stop for food when you don't want to do all the fast food and want some home cooked Mexican food.
