Lola's Restaurant & Bar - Review - West Loop - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Lola’s is busy–so busy, in fact, that you might think this place is good. It’s not. It’s filled with people who probably, much like you, just Googled “West Loop restaurants.” This American spot across from the McDonald’s headquarters is a chaotic mess, with an all-over-the-place menu that includes boring dishes like underseasoned curried cauliflower in a vat of yogurt and shrimp cocktail unnecessarily smothered in an obnoxiously hot cocktail sauce the server will feel obligated to warn you about multiple times. The dark brick space seems to be mainly filled with people staying at the Hyatt, as evidenced by the amount of luggage at the bar. Considering how many great restaurants are in the neighborhood, there is no reason to come here." - Adrian Kane

Google
First time dining and pleasantly surprised! We had a nice table off to the side so that we were still able to have a conversation with the overly crowded private party in the bar area. Our server was attentive and allowed us to order the happy hour specials even though we weren't at the bar. Thanks! The mussels and sausage were tasty but the sausage ratio was a bit minimal. The butchers skirt was cooked perfectly and the sweet potato fries and giardenara were a great accompaniment. Friends burger looked tasty and her fries were crisp like you want them. Nothing fancy, but classy. Definitely recommend for happy hour and a fun, relaxed dinner!

Google
Carpenter Street is our go-to spot in the neighborhood. The ambiance is great whether you’re going for brunch, happy hour or dinner. The food and drinks are consistently amazing and the service has always been wonderful. Our favorite spot to take out of town visitors!

Google
After three visits to Carpenter Street, I can securely confirm this place is wonderful. The happy hour & dinner menus have amazing food and drink choices, I love the spicy vodka pasta entree and the happy hour meatballs! Lisa is one of the best bartenders in the city, her drinks never miss and her energy is so bright & kind. Lisa’s dirty martini’s are delicious!!

Google
Outstanding experience from start to finish, service & food were both fantastic! We popped in with our kids for an early dinner and were greeted warmly at the door, staff was super accommodating. We are very happy with all our menu selections but the griddle burger is a must try, it was fantastic! Cocktail menu is really creative and their drinks did not disappoint, the cherry cola old fashioned was perfect. Excellent food and service made for an awesome experience. Great happy hour specials too, we will definitely be frequenting this neighborhood gem in the West Loop.

Google
Hosted an 18 member dinner here last week. Ordered a bunch of appetizers including the burrata, 4 cheese dip (really good), several salads which were wholesome, truffle fries, meatballs. All the drinks (cocktails and whiskey offerings were solid) Entrees included the lamb chops, 3-4 of us got the steak which was good, brussel sprouts were great. In short, this is a place we would happy visit again in Chicago.

Google
This spot is such an amazing addition to the West Loop! Food is great (especially the truffle fries) and the atmosphere is classy/upscale. Perfect spot to grab dinner with friends, or event to stop to have a drink before bopping around the West Loop. Highly recommend!

Google
Visiting family in the west loop and ran across Lola’s about a year ago. Came again over the holidays and enjoyed it again! Returned in March and have been enjoying it again until we fly back to Colorado on Monday !! Joe has a well trained staff and bartenders! Everything was as good as could be. ! And very good and friendly service !! Keep it going and hope to see soon

Google
The restaurant has a pleasant neighborhood vibe. The space Is awkwardly lit where the wrong areas are bright and all the detailing is in shade. The cocktails (negroni and old fashioned) were fine, 6/10. We devoured the burrata, 8/10. Ordered the burger medium rare, but was told it's a double patty smash burger, so no choice. A burger showed up without cheese, and when I brought it up, the runner and the server argued about it while standing next to the table. It went back to the kitchen for the paper thin square to be people on. The backyard 1/2 pound patty was certainly not smashed, very well cooked and dry, 4/10. The frozen fries were fine, 5/10. The steak was also over cooked and under seasoned. Service was generally quick and friendly, with the exception of the table side arguing. All this, not great for the price.

Yelp
Stopped in for brunch because Lola's was recommended by a friend who lives in the area. My friend and I split a Caesar salad and shrimp cocktail. The salad was huge and plenty for two people. I loved all of the fresh dill, and their homemade dressing was delicious. I loved the shrimp cocktail because I love horseradish. My friend isn't as crazy about it, and wished the sauce came on the side instead of the shrimp being tossed in it. They had a drink special on Spritz when we visited and I'm glad our waiter let us know!

Yelp
Loved our happy hour here! I had walked past the sign outside advertising their specials many times so it was fun to finally make it in here. To drink, I had a lemon drop martini. My friends had spicy margaritas, a cosmopolitan, and a cherry cola old fashioned. I thought the happy hour drink menu was very substantial and liked the variety of options. My only issue was that the mocktails were the same cost as the martinis even though they didn't have nonalcoholic spirits in most of them. My group didn't order the mocktails but I found it to be an odd way to price things. Food was yummy. The whipped ricotta hit the spot-- it was creamy and topped with honey. This was complimented by the slightly toasted baguette. We also got the truffle fries which were not a happy hour special but were so worth it. The bowl was huge-- we devoured every last crumb. I think that this would be a great spot for a girls night or a date!

Yelp
I had family in town and decided to drop in on a Monday. The restaurant was not busy and we easily got a reservation. This is a really cute spot and the drinks were good. The food was just okay to our party. While the presentation was great, the taste was lacking. Both chicken dishes the pan roasted chicken and skewers were both bland. The best thing was the fries and the papas bravas. The rigatoni was too missing some flavor. I don't know if we came on an off night, but these price points feel too high to have this type of hiccups on the food. The best thing was the meatballs and they did not seem to be blended well. Service was decent, a little slow, but the food came out fast.

Andrew C.

Yelp
Great ambiance and service. My biggest issue was the presentation of the burger and the chicken sandwich - they came out looking a bit underwhelming compared to other dishes like the pan roasted chicken. I think the cup of fries is part of the problem... it takes up a lot of room on the plate but makes me feel like I'm at a burger joint instead of a nice restaurant. The sandwiches themselves are also lacking some color (lettuce, etc.). The combination of those two issues made me feel like I got a dry sandwich on a plate without much food. The food tasted great through which is what made it so frustrating! Everything else about the place is great. Completely unassuming from the outside and cozy on the inside!

Yelp
Ambiance : Lola's exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere that strikes a perfect balance between modern sophistication and rustic charm. The dimly lit dining room, adorned with tasteful artwork and cozy wooden accents, creates an intimate setting that is perfect for a romantic date night or a special celebration. Service: The service at Lola's was impeccable. From the moment I was seated, I was greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable server who took the time to explain the evening's specials and answer any questions I had about the menu. Throughout the meal, the staff was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that my dining experience was top-notch. Cuisine: Lola's menu is a true gastronomic masterpiece, featuring a diverse range of dishes that cater to a variety of tastes. The fusion of flavors and ingredients was simply outstanding. We started with the whipped ricotta which was melt in your mouth fantastic. We also decided to get the Lola's salad. The salads are huge and tasty. For the main course, I opted for the Lola's filet mignon, and it was cooked perfectly (medium). My dining partner chose the cheeseburger, which was juicy and flavorful. The cocktails were really good too!!

Yelp
Lola's is the perfect restaurant for an after work dinner. The west loop has so many restaurants to choose from and Lola's is definitely a good choice. I really loved the dim lighting and intimate atmosphere it made for. Our servers were friendly and enthusiastic about serving my cousin and I. At the table we had our choice of still or sparkling water. I chose sparkling and I felt fancy since it came in a wine glass. For drinks my cousin got the passion fruit margarita and I got the clover club. Both were good drinks. For our appetizers I ordered curried cauliflower and my cousin had the house meatballs which she thought was filling. The curried cauliflower was so good. This can really be an entree if you like to eat light or eat vegan. Then came the main meal. We both ordered fish, only I got the white fish and she the salmon. We enjoyed both our fish. I liked how the white fish tasted with the cherry tomatoes and the salsa. My cousin liked the salmon and only wish she had more of it to eat. I would definitely take an out of towner here to introduce them to the restaurant scene and have a nice chat to catch up.

Yelp
Attentive and engaging staff, pretty drinks, and nice vibes! Love that they have a "girl meal" special. The happy hour had some great deals for both apps and drinks. All around good time. Check it out! The pasta was really good with adding a meatball recommended (both options of rigatoni and #12 pasta!) and drinks were good and strong, especially for the price.

Yelp
Everything was good. I've been here twice and the food service and price are fair. It's a diner type of atmosphere with good comfort breakfasts/brunch for my sleep in day!

Yelp
Phenomenal brunch this morning at Lola's! You should definitely all check out the "badass brunch" on Sundays. Don't miss out on the avocado toast and house made sausage, although everything on the menu is very good. Service is lovely, welcoming, and very gracious.

Yelp
Lola's, once a promising upcoming restaurant, now sits at a crossroads with a revised rating of 3 stars. In a recent visit, the beef in the burger raised concerns as it seemed to lack the freshness it once boasted. The removal of the banana split sundae, a past favorite, has left dessert options feeling less exciting, replaced by a new fudge sundae with noticeably a subpar ingredients. The cherry cola old fashioned cocktail, previously a nuanced delight, seems to have lost its charm, now dominated by the taste of whiskey and missing the multifaceted flavors that defined it. Notably, the absence of Jacob, the former bartender lead and creative force behind the inspired drinks, is felt in the overall experience. While still a decent spot with a chill environment, Lola's appears to have lost a bit of the brilliance that once set it apart. Here's hoping for a rekindling of the magic that made Lola's a notable destination.

Yelp
Great service, wide variety of food options, very much a "girls night out" type of menu and vibe. The Greek salad, burrata, and turkey sandwich were delicious. Randomly, there's even a ribeye steak on the menu... I don't see that being a big seller with the amount of steakhouses we have for options. Creative cocktails too, and very girly.
google avatar

Yelp
I might be hanging myself here but what inspiring style/space I melt when I see the attention to the detail. Sprouts and sweet potato delicious. Really nice ambiance . What a gem.

Yelp
This place might have some of the more unique mocktails I've found in the Chicago area. I got the strawberry mojito which was delicious! The service was great - got my water refilled so many times - which I truly appreciated because the food was on the saltier side. I loved the fries they gave, wish the burger I got was a little less salty. But overall, I appreciated the time and would recommend for others to try this place out :)

Yelp
We had the best time at Lola's. Staff was very warm and friendly and they had the best service. The place is very cute on the inside and they decorated it very nicely. It has an upscale dinner vibe to it. We stopped here before we had reservations at Monteverde. We will have to come back and eat here for dinner since it was delicious! They have a full bar and the drinks were good. If you like espresso martinis with more of a creamy base these are for you! The food was delicious. The brussel sprouts were amazing and the chicken kebobs with hummus were to die for! Lola's is one of my new favorite places in Chicago and I'm glad we discovered it!

Yelp
Dear Lola, I don't know what is happening in the kitchen, but the pan-seared chicken should be an easy plate to make. It was swimming in a thin sauce, which was bitter. The chicken was seasoned incredibly heavy with pepper and tasted like it was marinated in a rosemary vinegar compote. Fresh tomatoes were added, which should have been either grilled or sauteed with the dish or, more importantly, not present at all. Let's discuss the lighting - there is ambiance, and then there is sitting and eating in the damn dark, and that is what Lola provides. I have never seen more phone lights and candles held up to see a menu. We also ordered drinks, and the martinis arrived with more rim than liquor, so we switched to wine, and it couldn't have been more than 4 oz. in the glass. My friend had a Diet Coke, and the waitress brought a can and poured it at the table. Is that supposed to be fancy and upscale? Bartender do better! After a night of half-filled, subpar drinks, and dishes that were less than average at best, we paid the $322 bill (that included a generous tip for a less-than-attentive waitress) and vowed never to return!!

Yelp
A gem!! One of my favorite bars in Chicago. You can tell they really care about their craft and I can totally appreciate it, I mean look at these drinks!! Not only are they stunning but they taste like magic and yes you can eat the flowers and yes, they too taste good! Didn't snap any pics of the food but it was awesome. Best shrimp cocktail sauce. Love the ambiance of the place and how caring the staff/bartender are.

Cheryl D.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Had the shrimp cocktail, meatballs and burrata. Great service too. Ambiance was cozy. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
The energy here is fabulous. Happy Hour Menu is savagely on point. If Mike is at the bar you're in great hands. Plus, they have high quality Australian Lamb Chops!!!

Yelp
Great food. Great atmosphere and even greater drinks and service from our bartender Evelyn. She was very attentive and the drinks were amazing. By far one of the best old fashioned I've had. Will definitely be back again. -D. M. Houston

Yelp
The food was not very good at all. The ambience was ok but the lighting was a little too dark and it was very cold where they sat us. The server seemed really confused, she barely had any knowledge about the menu. The food could have prepared better with more flavor and season...I had to send my pasta entree back because it was very disappointing, I ended up goin to another restaurant after to eat there. The drinks were fairly good, but I have no desire to return.

Brett T.

Yelp
Food was incredible! Service was spectacular, thank you Edgar. Ambiance and tunes were exactly what you're looking for in a night out. Will be back again soon!

Yelp
New spot in West Loop, perfect for a dinner with friends or date night. Menu includes a wide variety of options that anyone in your party could find something they like! Recommend the burger- chef's special!
google avatar

Kelly W.

Yelp
Lovely space, impeccable service, but mediocre food and drinks. Cannot recommend. Our party of four went for dinner on a Saturday night. We ordered a variety of cocktails, starters, entrees and desserts-nothing notable.

Caroline C.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been looking for a spot in Chicago with solid food, cocktails and ambiance, this was it. Our server Edgar was unbelievably attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. The vibe is ON POINT, French brasserie meets Palm Beach. Exactly what this neighborhood needed. Will be returning.

Yelp
Context: A friend invited us to check out a new spot, in the West Loop, I can see this place being a go to after work hours for craft cocktails and American style cuisine- with "Lola's" personal spin. Commends: WE went in on the menu! Shout out to the Mixologist, yes a real one. Smoke boxes, fresh fruit juices, edible flowers, the whole nine on display! I had an old fashioned, cherry flavored at that. I don't rock with cherry or old fashioned's - but when it's cherry Mexican cola Japanese plum whisky- say less! Other favorites below: - Lola's Cheeseburger- I ordered two of these mfs! We split the first, had one to go. The Chef opened AuCheval in NYC - say less. - House Meatballs - A non-wise man once told me, "when you see meatballs on a menu, order them." He ain't missing - Tropical Tumeric & Ginger Old Fashioned Zero Proof Cocktail - No typo! These have no alcohol but who's said you can't add it?! Remember fresh juices, edible flowers...do it! *Add Tequila - Lola's Shrimp Cocktail- Now these hit different, not like hot hot but clear your sinuses upon impact hot. Cut in bites, if you wild eat the whole thing! I dare you! - Honorable Mention, Classic Hot Wings - Unique smoked flavor if you rock with pork most def check out Recommends: I want to know more about Lola! She's seems like a person to know. Overall/Value: 4.5/5. Going 5 for the vibes from the staff, overwhelming helpful and fun! Perfect for after work drinks or food, and picky eaters can go crazy.

Yelp
Very decent spot but they have recently increased their prices... $12 to add chicken to a salad is insane.
google avatar

Yelp
Lola's strikes that hard balance between great atmosphere for adults and reasonable kid-friendliness. Our service was excellent, and the French Dip was almost unreasonably good. The burger was perfectly good but not mind-blowing - but the fries that come with it are some of the best I have had anywhere. Perfect crispness and saltiness. The mixologists were on their game too.

Diane T.

Yelp
This is the kind of place to take your best friend or your best date. We found this delightful restaurant be accident and can't thank the universe enough for guiding us here. Lola's is a charming restaurant with delicious food, fabulous service and a very cool vibe. It is a warm environment that is not hyped up and noisy and still feels upscale. We enjoyed it so much we went back the next night for dessert! Not only did they remember us, but they comped a dessert as a thank you for our return. Angie was a very attentive and friendly server without being overly familiar. I hope others go here to support this woman-owned establishment and help to make it an anchor for dining in this neighborhood.

Yelp
Visiting from San Francisco, what a delightful and delicious experience had by all. The service was impeccable, ambiance inviting and classy. The food? YUMMMY. Don't hesitate to stop in, you won't regret it.
google avatar

Lola J.

Yelp
The decor is intimate and cute, the drink menu options were carefully crafted, but the dinner menu was underwhelming. I had the salmon and it was prepared well along with the ravioli special of the evening which was an interesting paring or sliced almonds, evoo and ricotta.
google avatar

Dominic M.

Yelp
Amazing experience at Lola's! The food was absolutely incredible. Started with the shrimp cocktail, which is an absolute must when dining here. For dinner, we got the spicy rigatoni and white fish, which was one of the best that we have had in Chicago. As for the service, Chris was wonderful and had amazing recommendations and made the experience one to remember. We will definitely be coming back here!

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Visited before a Blackhawks game--perfect spot in a happening and festive neighborhood! Started out with the whipped ricotta and the roasted Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes (great combo). The Mediterranean salad and miso glazed halibut both hit the spot...and don't forget the fries (extra crispy)! Great atmosphere and vibe! Can't wait to return!

Jeffrey P.

Yelp
Came from the salt plains. Good food, family owned, and really nice. They offered to take salsa and soda to go which was really nice.

Lillian C.

Yelp
This place is beautiful, the service is attentive and personable and the food is incredible. I love my cosmos and had the best one in the city while here. Learned they are open for lunch most weekdays and have a happy hour. After my meal today I plan to return until I have tried everything on the menu. LOVE THIS SPOT and had a great meal.

Jacqueline N.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal! One of the best meals I've had in my life. Interior is very upscale yet cozy. Very nice staff. Also great coffee

Yelp
So happy I made a reservation here! a group of 7 of us were going out for Happy Hour and Lola's popped up in my searches. A few of us arrived an hour before our reservation and the staff happily accommodated us and was able to rearrange the patio to accommodate our group size. I tried each of the mocktails and I can say they were the best in the city that rival every high end cocktail bar surrounding them in their west loop location. The mocktails were extremely unique in flavor and not to mention beautifully adorned with various flowers and garnishes. My friends had rave reviews about the cocktails as well. The food was also incredible. The highlights for me were the burger and chips and dip which is a delicious spinach artichoke dip. The chicken sandwich was another can't miss item for me. We also got the charcuterie, meatballs and Brussels and I would get each of those again. Service was also great - our waters were never empty and there was always another bevvie on the way. 100 percent will be back.

Yelp
Lola's does a wonderful job!! Atmosphere is extremely inviting and pleasant. Wait staff are trained to perfection Food selection is wonderful. I will definitely go back!!

Yelp
The French dip was amazing. The money penny drink was beautiful. I loved the atmosphere and ambiance. Joe the owner came over and was so kind. Our server was really fun, happy and funny and let us sample some chilled red wine. We will be back.

Yelp
Seriously everything was delightful. Great vibe, delicious food, wonderful service. We had martinis that were super pretty and tasty, unbelievably good brussel sprouts, and perfect salmon and filet. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great new restaurant in the west loop! First I'd like to say the service and the staff was excellent. Our waiter was friendly and fun. The food was really good, we started with the whipped ricotta and the curried cauliflower. For our entrees my fiancé and I shared the steak and frites and chicken. The steak was cooked perfectly and the chicken was tender and juicy. The sauce on the chicken was incredible. Lastly the drinks, they have a great drink menu. The espresso martini and the cherry cola old fashioned were some of the better cocktails we've had in the city. Highly recommend coming here!

nicole l.

Yelp
Our Food was good for sure. The staff was nice and accommodating. I would go back . Rigatoni and cheeseburger were our entrees

Brittania O.

Yelp
We had the charcuterie board for our appetizer, so yummy! For dinner, I had ordered the #12 Pasta dish & added chicken. Honestly it was so yummy & fulfilling. And my husband order Lola's Pan Roasted Chicken, he devoured it, said it was so good! We were too full for dessert, but will be returning soon to check out the lunch menu options. Definitely a must try hotspot!
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
The food and service were both outstanding! Our waiter gave us some great suggestions for are first time there. Can't wait to go back!

John D.

Yelp
Just wandered in off the street with a group of five for a late lunch. Great service! And the food was really, really good - far exceeded expectations. Price isn't low, but worth it. Our group had cheeseburgers - fries some of the best we've had!! Chips and dip and ricotta w toast and wings. All very good - we will certainly be back.

Christine N.

Yelp
Greatly enjoyed our first time dining here! Our server Chris and all the staff were very attentive and helped us celebrate a 40th birthday and a wedding anniversary! Food was very well prepared and seasoned - all great quality! Cozy vibe and fun reusable drawing pads for the kids to borrow while they wait. Food came pretty quickly!
google avatar

Patrick A.

Yelp
Great dinner, service and atmosphere. Had drinks at the bar and they were all solid- cherry cola old fashioned was very well done. Dinner and the service were great. Burger was very good and others had salmon, pasta and steak frites- all good. Would definitely come back.

Dave G.

Yelp
Amazing service and cocktails! Loved the Dips and Chips and the pan roasted chicken. Will definitely come again!

Purvi K.

Yelp
Oh my goodness--this place is an absolute gem! We headed in as a group of 5 for dinner on a Saturday night and we had an incredible experience! The decor was carefully tailored, yet relaxed, and it created a great atmosphere to catch up with friends we have not seen in a long time and share many laughs. We had Wally as our server--do yourself a favor and request him. He was so knowledgeable about the menu, made great recommendations, and was very attentive to the entire table. He made certain food was safe for one of the people in our group with a severe allergy. We started out with delicious drinks. Between the group, we tried all three of the different old fashioneds on the menu as well as the cranberry mule. They were delicious and their unique take on the mule was refreshing. For appetizers, we ordered the whipped ricotta and the shrimp cocktail. The whipped ricotta was rich and plenty. The shrimp cocktail was out of this world and you MUST order it. I'm not normally a shrimp cocktail person but this one has an amazing kick with the horseradish that I promise, you do not want to miss! For entrees, we tried the pan roasted chicken, the loch duart Scottish salmon, the cheeseburger, and the steak frites between all of us. The chicken and steak frites were melt in your mouth perfection. The salmon was simple, yet flavorful. Honestly, it was likely the best salmon I've ever had. The cheeseburger was carefully crafted and far exceeded the high mark all Chicagoans have on the classic dish--this signature sauce on the burger was chef's kiss. As a side, our table ordered the rigatoni from the entree menu, and mixed in the meatballs from the appetizers list. This was per our server Wally's recommendation and it hit the spot! Although we were in a food coma, we somehow managed to order the New York style cheesecake for dessert. It was a great way to conclude our amazing experience at Lola's. Thank you to Joe, Wally, and all of the amazing staff for such a treat on an evening out! We cannot wait to come back!

Matt G.

Yelp
Wow! What a great experience. Excellent service from our waiter and his trainee. Cocktails on point. Recommend the New York Sour. Brussel sprout app (w sweet potatoes) is delish. My date's filet was a perfect "rare plus". Excellent vibe to the place w good music, not too loud and a great buzz of people. Highly recommend.
