Paid $15 cover charge to get into Lola's room for 90s night for my friend's birthday and had to leave after an hour because it was so unforgivably hot in there that we couldn't stand it. Temperature that day was in the 90s (no pun intended) and even hotter inside especially with how many people were there. There was one single fan to cool the entire bar filled with tons of people dancing which wasn't even big enough to circulate the air in the room. Thought we could go outside to cool off but they don't allow re-entry so we were stuck in the heat. I will still go to Lola's room for a drink if I have a show at crystal ballroom but I absolutely will not go back outside of that with the cover charge being that high and the heat being so unbearable.

We went to see French Police play here and getting in was a breeze, show ur ID and tickets, empty ur pockets to walk thru security, grab items then youre in! The place is really cute and the restaurant is right next door. A great venue for small artists and also has a bar in the back

Google
All the staff is really nice! Love the dance flashback nights. I will say that the drinks are pretty pricey for not giving a buzz at all, and it is suuuuper hot in there so I had to take away a star. They could definitely add some more fans on the dance floor! Overall good vibe :)

Google
Such a fun place to go dancing. There's metal detectors at the entrance and they search all bags. Full bar with great cocktails and beer on tap. However it's super hot and there's no A/C. It'd be nice if the added fans. Otherwise great place to go dancing. Highly recommend.

Google
Easily the worst music venue in Portland, and worst McMenamin’s location anywhere. My husband and I usually love going to concerts and events at different McMenamin’s locations, but we won’t go back to Lola’s room. Rude staff, disappointing music and overpriced both for cover and drinks.

Google
I love their 90's night! It always fills up, and everyone gets super into the dancing groove by 12. Great song choices, and so nostalgic seeing the music videos!

Google
This place has to be the worst. We bought tickets for a special event and they didn’t even tell us that the event was closing 30min afterwards. The DJ himself didn’t know that the party was shutting down. It was an amazing event to experience, as it was half full and they closed the party 1h30 beforehand. Just know that this place will try to trick you into paying more for no reason. They were even making fun of us

Sheyna Patel

Google
I appreciate the inclusive venues they hold, however their “safety” policies don’t seem very safe. I was asked to leave my drink on an open table unattended (where everyone had to pass by to get to the restroom) while I use the restroom. Most women would feel uncomfortable leaving their drinks unattended. Yet that wasn’t considered. Fix this policy. Not okay to put women in Unnecessarily vulnerable situations.

Yelp
A wonderful experience but if you're a PNW local, the passport is worth and so fun! All the locations are different, quaint, and the experience is always a good one!

Yelp
Lola's Room is always fun place to dance Saturday night away. There are still plenty of over 40yrs people there. There are always more women than men. Cover and cost of drinks isn't to bad. Great place.

Yelp
The 5 of us "Bros" are children of the 80s... Bachelor party...we thought we we'd be going to a strip club...Nope! A couple older ladies at Rogue Brewing listened in on our conversation, and then told us about 80s Music Video night that has been going on at Lola's every Friday night for the past 12 years... who needs a strip club when you can spend the entire night dancing to 80s music with your 4 groomsmen? We looked really awkward, but eventually some ladies felt sorry for us and danced with us. They were amused seeing an old ugly group of 5 men aged 38-40 dancing among themselves. Thanks ladies for making us look less pathetic! The 2 ladies from Rogue found us 5 aged losers and danced with us for awhile...awesome! Its friendly atmosphere of mostly 30 up and folks, no douchebags. Except for one dude, get the f**k out mofo. Anyways, I though the bachelor party was all gonna to be in bed by 11pm...instead we danced to until about 1:30am. Way past our bedtime...but just about every song was a good song! $7 cover charge, but I found a coupon for $12 for 4...yes! "Oh oh, Dancing with a-myself, Oh, oh, dancing with myself" "Everybody Wang Chung tonight!" "Love shack, baby Love shack!" "Sweet dreams are made of these..." "Everytime I see you falling..." F**k Vegas...go to Portland for your bachelor party!

Yelp
I look forward to the music and video dance parties at the Crystal Ballroom and specifically Lola's Room. More than a little disappointed at this past weekend's event and staff however. My friend and I took transportation down to Lola's Room. We arrived at the box office and door staff asked if we were there for the ticketed event (not uncommon around Portland). We weren't and the staff were not helpful or informative. We went around to Ringlers and bought a couple of drinks. I asked the bartender about the event upstairs and he said it was open to the public. Not shocked, but he seemingly cared less that the door staff had turned two people away. We returned to the box office to ask more and turns out that it was $22 to get into the event ($12 advertised for Lola's Room). I showed the door man and told him we came down specifically for Lola's. He called another boss and was low key condescending about having to ask. We stood outside for a few minutes when 4 other people showed up hoping to go to the same place we were. They even showed the doorman the information on the McMenamins website. Within minutes they announced it was free to get in (it was about midnight). Once we were inside, turns out they had cancelled Lola's room and it had been moved to the ballroom, where there were not many people. Would be nice if the website could get updated accordingly and also if the staff were a bit nicer, informative, and understanding about the situation. I have other options on where to spend my money.

Yelp
Came here two nights in a row because we had so much fun the first night. On Friday night, it was 80s music. Saturday night was 90s music. There is a small cover charge fee of $7. They play the music videos of whatever song is playing on the screen so it's really fun to dance along while watching the actual music video play. Lots of throwbacks and definitely recommend coming here with friends if this old school music is something you really enjoy. Some people came "dressed" for the decade, but not necessary for you to get in. No need to get in heels either, come comfortable so you can dance to some classic jams! It's not really in a crystal ballroom, it's at the floorspace below it. There are disco balls though around the ceiling (close to crystal right? haha!). They close around 1:30am. Restrooms are also whatevers, but it's hard to expect much when it comes to dance clubs/bars.

Ali N.

Yelp
Not a dance club at all. This needs to be rectified. Based on the reviews and everything I expected to see some dancing but there was nothing but a closed empty space. And it's not even close to last call. Very disappointing.

Yelp
I ended up attending two different birthday parties here one week after another...no joke. First off - let me clue you in for yours a tad bit of help. If you go to the website and email them you can reserve some tables for your birthday party so you guys have a home base. Someone will need to get there early but its worth it since this space fills up fast. Both weeks were filled with a pretty diverse group of guys and girls all ages but mostly millennials. With that said - I grew up in the 80's and have been going to dance clubs since the late 80's. The videos they play on huge screens are fun but it seems like about the same mix of tunes which the millennials were screaming and going insane for but to me seemed tired and lame to dance to. But again, the floor was full and people do dress up. For folks like me who don't drink you will want to get a cup of ice at the bar anyway since its one of those wastefull places that put out paper drinking cones. The staff were very unfriendly the first week I went and then super nice the following week. The cover is $7 and they charge extra sometimes (they charged me the second week the 50 cents extra but not the first week) if you use your card. If you smoke you are screwed since there is no reentry and no where for you to smoke without leaving the venue - just an FYI. The DJ puts out a request sheet which I have no clue if he even pays attention to it since I was there from start to finish the first week and I gave up requesting anything since he played nothing I requested - I requested very doable tunes too. The second week me and several people requested a song which he played as the last song. The restroom requires a bit of building navigation...just a warning but its clean and has a great many stalls which is good since its used by the whole venue which is huge and may have a multitude of events happening.

Shelley D.

Yelp
Came here for a 90s night and it was amazing. The good: MUSIC VIDEOS for all the music that's playing and a floor that literally moves and bounces as people jump. The bad: IT WAS SO HOT! Like that song "when sweat drips down my balls" hot. I liked that they had water but I think more was on the floor than in the water cooler. The floor was also super sticky. So just know what you're getting into aka hot, sweaty, sticky bad ass songs being played non-stop.

Jesy B.

Yelp
Ack, I struggled with this review. On one hand, I love 80's nights. On the other hand, it seems like McMenamin's can even muck that up in a crazy way. My group & I showed up around 9:30, and it was confusion from minute one. There was a line? What? Oh wait, that line was for the show going on...no it wasn't....yes it was....dude, bouncers, MAKE UP YOUR MIND. 10 minutes later we're finally let in - because the dang place was at capacity at 9:30!?!? Not a great sign. We get in and 2/3 of the floor is the line for drinks. We sat in line for no less than 30 minutes and had to make do with dancing in place. Once I got up to order, I asked for 2 cranberry vodkas. I got 1 full one and one that was 2/3rds full as they RAN OUT OF CRANBERRY JUICE. WHA!? Plus the drinks are extremely pricey. I assume this is because people tire of waiting in line and only do it once or twice. There's no way to dance in here without bouncing off of people and some people use this as an excuse to rub their sweaty bodies all over you (ick). The music is pretty dang good though. The crowd is young & old alike which is different for sure. Watching the videos is fun too. I've heard they do 80's night in the Crystal when there aren't shows. I think that's going to be the only time I come back because the wait for drinks & ratio of room-to-dance vs capacity is crap. Shut Up & Dance at Fez WAS a great place for 80's type music, more space and more fun crowd but it's no longer there. Sad times.

Emma P.

Yelp
I've gone here for the 80's, 90's and early 2000's dances. Music is pretty good. The dance floor SUCKS. Talk about getting sea sick it bounces so much. Ceilings are low and it gets crazy hot in there. Drinks are more expensive up there then in the restaurant, for the exact same drink. The restaurant does not meet McMenamins standards and it's disappointing. I should know I've work for them several times. Staff is 50/50 on friendliness. Either they are amazing or they're terrible.

Mark B.

Yelp
Lola's is a nice space under the Crystal Ballroom(same building, one floor down). It is smaller then even the first flore of the ballroom. That said it has a bar, windows overlooking Burnside and it hosts a lot of smaller events. Its a nice space. I have been here several times for different events and always have had a good time. It has good sound and the same kind of floating(bouncing) floor as upstairs (according to the tour when McMenamins renovated the building they copied the system upstairs). Tip: yes it is on the second floor but if stairs are a problem there is an elevator.

Michele G.

Yelp
Don't accompany your women friends out so that they can be safe, especially toward the end of the night. They won't let you back in. To be precise, we actually hadn't even walked out of the door, and it was clear we had just come down to ensure our friend was safe, since we had notified the attendant. So much for ensuring safety of women at a late time and a not well lit area of town. Ruined a perfectly nice night otherwise, just because the staff was unaccommodating to a simple request to go get our friends upstairs. Despicable

Doris L.

Yelp
Star 1: Trampoline like floor excellent for dancing to the B-52's, Devo, Rick James, Michael Jackson, Prince, Duran Duran, and oh yes, Dexy's Midnight Runners. Star 2: Rock-hard hockey player turned graphic designer with vintage CBC shirt and the tightest ass I have ever laid hands on. Accidentally. 40 or 50 times. Very crowded. Star 3: Playing the actual videos from my MTV youth on a giant screen with each song totally bitchin'. Star 4: All things McMenamin's are awesome - in Oregon anyway. Saving one amazing historic building after another. Sweet. Star 5: Not present. WHY WERE THERE PEOPLE FUCKING SMOKING IN HERE??????? Dude smoking a PIPE on the dance floor - you SUCK. Who does that? Lovely though, really. Overall. Go.

Ron T.

Yelp
It's weird at 80's night. I thought I saw an apparition of my lovely grandmother. I thought I was in her room with her friends. They all smell like old cabinet and cat pee. The music is blaring bad. The drinks are dixie cup size. I can tell now that this is not my scene and I consider myself an old fart.

Julee D.

Yelp
We were here on a Sat night in June. It was 90s night and packed. Assumed the music would be grunge but it was more like 90s pop. Remember Hansen and that um bop song? It was a hit that night! Even if you think you were too cool to sing and dance to that song, it likely happened... The coolest thing about this place was that the floors bounced. It freaked me out at first. As soon as that song played followed by other similar pop hits, everyone love the mini trampoline effect of the floors. Would definitely return to this spot! Wonder if 80s night there would be just as fun?

Emily L.

Yelp
90s night music is awesome but who doesn't love the 90s?!? Britney, nsync, bsb, all came to party! Let's just say this place would be 1 star if those didn't come out. So why 2 stars? -/+The floor literally feels like it is going to break right under your feet so I'm not sure if it's supposed to feel that way or if it's the rationalization people are having.. -no one is cleaning/collecting cups that are all over tables resulting in hugely sticky floors -drinks/cups are spilled everywhere and actually a potential safety hazard if you ask me -the dj is just playing one song to completion after another, not reading the crowd, and no dj skills and meaning you request takes forever to actually play -NO ventilation!!! 2 fans and no ac?!? No one can last long in this environment... Especially when you layer on BO... +happy Gilmore was playing in the background -$7 cover Overall, super fun night but not necessarily a great environment.

Kemi A.

Yelp
Give me 80's or give me death!!! Came here after leaving Jones's and it was totally tubular. 80's music videos across huge screens, people dancing like it's 1999, cheap drinks, bouncy floor, yes yes yes!!! I liked the fact they played a span of different genres in the 80's, my pal especially loved when they played The Cure and Depeche Mode. I am so coming back!

Katherine M.

Yelp
Going to the 80s Video Dance Attack a couple of weeks ago at Lola's Room was one of the most fun thing I've ever done in a long time. The people there were absolutely not judgy, the playlist was PERFECT, and the floor was indeed bouncy (quite scarily though.) Even my super self conscious boyfriend, who never EVER dances in public, had an amazing time. He was even busting more moves that I did! Of course, the alcohol didn't hurt though. However, since it's a McMenamins establishment, the drinks are on the pricey side (which was why we downed a couple of happy hour drinks prior to going there...) We had to leave early though because we literally danced our asses off, although I didn't want to because we were having so much fun (stupid body not being able to handle a night of dancing.) Seriously can't wait to go back for more awesome danceytimes!

Danielle K.

Yelp
The scene: Small bar sammiched between DJ-spinning Ringlers and concert-goers at the Crystal with a few windows and a projection screen showing '80s music videos. The attire: Black dress. Hot pink leggings (these will be donned later), glittery flats, metallic pink headband. Fingerless lace-up fishnet gloves ala Madonna. The backdrop: Come here after a good prefunc. It makes the fact that there is no air circulation (and it gets packed), there is a cover charge, the drinks are "classic" McMenamins FAIL, and someone just spilled water all over your feet slightly more tolerable. The yeses: Raspberry Beret. PYT. Safety Dance. Like a Virgin. Stirring the pot of love. The seatbelt and shopping-cart action. And the people who kept on complimenting my badass gloves. The nos: The girl who came up to my friend, started dancing on him, then took his beer right out of his hand and downed it in front of him. Seriously people...'80s Night is where it's at on Fridays! And dammit, you'll most likely leave totally euphoric because, really, who could be sad after listening to Walk Like an Egyptian?

Loli L.

Yelp
:) 80's night = Great crowd, great vibes, great music + videos :) Bouncy floor (you're practically dancing even if you just stand there) :) Great drinks and tons of water :( No place to sit because we didn't get there early to snag a spot wait.. Who sits down during an 80's night?! :) No place to sit because we didn't get there early to snag a spot

April C.

Yelp
Went for 90's night and while I love the music, this crowd was a little sparse compared to the 80's nights they have on Fridays. Still great dancing to be had and they played "American Pie" and "House Party" in the background. My biggest gripe that I soon remembered from the last time I was here was the sticky floors. Because of the dancing being so close to the bar area, people attempt to drink their drinks on the dance floor and well, it's just an eventuality that those drinks would then end up on the floor in a splash or a pour. Over the course of the night, the floor goes from "Yay, bouncy!" to "Oh, almost slipped but I'm okay" to then "My shoe is stuck to the floor. No, really." Still a fun place to go...just make sure to wear footwear securely attached to your feet.

Scott L.

Yelp
Now that there's no smoking, I love this place even more on 80s video night. Yes, they play much of the same songs each night, but does it ever get tired dancing to "Brand New Lover?" Love the free water! Keep an eye out for when they move 80s video to the top (more roomy) floor. But if you go, please follow some simple rules: 1) The dance floor is for dancing. If you want to just stand and talk, move to the side. You're taking up valuable space that I can be spinning like a record player round 2) Please don't dance with a drink in your hand. It spills on the floor, The floor gets sticky and again I can't spin round like a record player. 3) Do not put your purse(s) on the floor and dance around it. Again, valuable dance floor real estate wasted. Peace

Kristen G.

Yelp
All I can say is: I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish they had this place in L.A. (but then, really, it wouldn't be the same, would it??) Went on 80s night and had a blast dancing... though, jeeez when everyone jumps it's like a trampoline in there the floor moves so much... and just like a trampoline, if you hit it wrong you get thrown off. Good music. GREAT crowd. I miss places like this... and I miss people like this... Down to earth and fun. And, it made my lungs rejoice when I could actually smoke inside (I love you Portland bars!)

Jesus A.

Yelp
Great place to come dance to 80's music while seeing it in the big screen. People are dressing up in their 80's clothes, this adds to the atmosphere. Two bartenders are usually there and there are long lines for drinks, at time you dont know which line will get served first. The place gets crowded both on dance floor and drink lines.

Erin L.

Yelp
My first visit to Lola's Room was just this year and after going to 80's night, I kept wondering why I waited so long to attend! Both 80's and 90's night are super fun, the atmosphere is great, the DJ plays all the hits and the bouncy floor makes it even more enjoyable. My only complaint about this place is how small it is. My suggestion is to get there right as it opens so you can get a table, because there aren't many of them and they go fast. Lola's Room has definitely become my go to dancing place.

Olivia T.

Yelp
When you feel like you gotta dance...then you gotta dance. When you are in the mood for 80's music and fun...then you can haz that too. When Crystal Ballroom can't do that for you...don't worry you can do it at the Lola's Room. One big screen, loud 80's music, people are dressing up in their 80's clothes. Two bartenders, long lines for drinks, crowded dance floor, a realization that world can stop right here and you will be just fine because you have the best friends in the world. That happened to me at the Lola's.

Jarret F.

Yelp
How many places can you bust out your diamond glove and play MJ for the night? While rocking out next to guys in Devo pyramid hats? Without drawing attention of the police? With ladies that look great in spandex? Luckily, Lola's got you covered every Friday night. Showing up around 9:45 is recommended -- by 10 there's usually a pretty intense line out on the sidewalk. Lost a star because the bar is notoriously crowded with slow service. That's pretty much to be expected at a McMenamins place, though.

CaLiLu H.

Yelp
Organizing an 80's prom theme for my BFF's birthday party seemed to be a daunting task, but when I found out about Lola's Room it really generated a lot of excitement with my friends. I am definitely not a clubber so Lola's Room was my first experience and it was a blast! I loved that the 80's music they played were classics and the music videos on the screens enhanced the 80's vibe. Also the 80's fashion we were stylin' were a hit and it was nice to be able to take my new fanny pack out in public! Everyone there seemed to be having so much fun as well and were nice and not drunk and slobbery. Overall, it was definitely a good experience and I hope to come back soon! Anyone want to come with?? :)

Bex S.

Yelp
Went here and walked into an 80's party! The music was great, but it got pretty hot in there with everyone dancing. Great fun, great people! Only downside was very small sized drinks in tiny plastic cups.

F C.

Yelp
The last time I was at the Crystal Ballroom was last month at one of their dance nights in Lola's Room. It was advertised as a night where they would be playing all women artists all night long from the '70s up til the present day. I was super excited to host my birthday celebration there. My friends and I were not even there a couple of hours before they were playing Michael Jackson, Prince, the Beastie Boys, etc. Not that I don't love those artists, but that is not what was advertised, not what I came out for, and not what I invited my friends for/told them to expect. Apparently, with over five decades of music to choose from, it only took a couple of hours for McMenamins's Crystal Ballroom and Lola's Room to run out of women artists to play. I definitely will be bringing my business and my friends elsewhere when I look to celebrate in the future.

Abby M.

Yelp
If you love the 80s, get your butt here on a Friday night. Videos to boot, and since the 80s are back, bring on the leg warmers, the stripes, the Beneton rugbys, whatever makes you happy. Decent drinks and a mixed crowd make for some fun time dancing any weekend. And everything will be non-smoking come Jan!

Johana M.

Yelp
Well, during the last show I went to, I got kicked out of the Crystal Ballroom for being "too drunk" (HA! In California no one would have batted an eyeball at my state PLUS I was really feeling the girl on girl hate with that one- chicky just wanted to exercise some power)! Luckily, Lola's was there to continue serving my "too drunk" ass to the point that I was finally, and definitely- drunk! AND...As I am the queen of leaving things behind in a drunken haze, I left my iPhone. I called the next morning, and they actually had it!! WOW. You'll see more of my money for sure, Lola's.

Aleasha G.

Yelp
Cool dark atmosphere. Great music (Thanks Gretchen from Company of Thieves!!!!) I bumped into the lead singer in the bathroom before the show, talked with her for a few (REALLY FRIENDLY) then she dedicated a song to my bro since it was his last day before he was headed off to Iraq. Decent but spendy brews. And if my memory serves me right, its CASH ONLY. Felt the drinks were a little weak so I switched to beer, which they do NOT serve by the pitcher down there...and there is a much smaller selection. But oh well. NOTE: Arrive early if you want to snag a booth or a table. Otherwise you'll probably be standing, but if the music is rocking, you'll be up on your feet anyways so take your pick!

Ann W.

Yelp
The "80's Video Rock" event we attended at Lola's was a great time! A good mix of people and a good mix of music. The "floating dance floor" did take it's toll on me, however! After 2 hours of boucing around on a floor that, well, bounces, I declared myself sea-sick and had to go home. I don't think it was the drinks, as we declared these a bit weak, but all in all, someplace I'd definitely recommend!

Denise K.

Yelp
http://www.mcmenamins.com/192-lola-s-room-home New Website! Great huge dance floor with large TV's showing the 80's music video when you rock out to it! Awesome!

Linda F.

Yelp
Lola's is great. Easy access, easy entrance, nice crowd, and nice bar workers. It definitely has the "younger sibling" vibe in that it's not a stand alone club, but it still does the job. If it were me, I'd figure out how to get rid of the conference-style black curtains to uplevel the professional look of the club. The sound is fine and I like the videos. It was a lively and packed crowd for 90s dance night. I'll be back.

Karen L.

Yelp
A lot of fun but after a $7 cover, $8.50 for a draft plastic solo cup is a little steep. Also, synchronize the video screens. Overall though, a good time.

Jeff M.

Yelp
A Haiku Review of Lola's Room: Go on Friday night. Eighties night on bouncy floor. Bring your party pants.

Amy J.

Yelp
The good: Fun, great 80's music nights with original videos. Overall fun crowd, mix of peeps who grew up in the 80's and younger folks who think its cool to dress up in 80's outfits and attempt to dance like Molly Ringwold. The bad: The bar service here is awful so don't go here if you want to get your drink on. They pour weak - exactly one shot (possibly less) - you can't run a tab - and you can only buy one drink at a time- no double shots etc.

Matthew C.

Yelp
80s Video Attack is one of of the most fun times to be had in Portland. Where else do you get a springboard floor to keep you bouncing through the night? The music is pure nostalgia, and very Michael Jackson-centric, which is alright by me. If you're lucky, you may even see the whole joint simultaneously break out into the Thriller dance. It's also one of the friendliest places to go in the city. There are, however, a few drawbacks to Lola's Room. First, there is not a lot of ventilation, let alone air conditioning, in the spot and it can get a bit muggy at times. Also, with a small bar with few staff, it can be challenging at times to grab a drink. Despite the above, Lola's Room is a great time and I always look forward to a Friday 80s night.

Jung K.

Yelp
the bouncy floors are fun. the line to wait outside ain't. I go on a "one woman midnight zumba" session all around Portland (it's basically me hitting any of the dance clubs without any alcohol consumption and just sweating it out for 2-3 hours at odd hours of the night. I pay cover charge and that's it.) The music is cool on certain days, other times just plain weird. My biggest gripe with the place is the 1:30am cut off time. I realize they close at a certain time but to just turn on all the lights and telling everyone to leave once it hits 1:30am is just plain rude. I was getting my groove on and feelin' the rhythm til all the lights came on and the music stopped. No annoucements, no nothin'. Confused as to what the f was going on, I had to look around to see that everyone was wrapping up. Ok, I get it. But a "last call" sort of reminder prior to the last song being played would've been nice. That said, not a bad place for booty shaking, especially during the 80's and 90's theme nights.

Yelp
My bridesmaids and friends took me here for 80's night on my bachelorette party weekend in Portland. This place was absolutely AWESOME! The bar service was quick and efficient. The drinks were strong. There were tons of people dressed up in true 80's attire and there were all different age groups. Additionally, there were music videos of the songs playing. IT WAS SO GREAT! Danced all night in my gold pants! :D I would go again in a heartbeat!

Yelp
Haven't been to Goth night, but on Fridays the music of the 1980's pumps the floorboards, letting you release your dormant Molly Ringwald and Little Michael without anyone judging you. Some people dress for the decade, most don't, but even stalwart wallflowers find the dance floor irresistible. Either way, be sure to wear layers because you will bake after an hour. The cover price is decent - $5 - but sporadic, given that the doorperson abandoned her post and anyone who showed up afterward could walk in for free. The crowd is diverse, ranging from teenyboppers and preppy weekend thrill-seekers to older couples and perpetual sourpusses with unabashed love for new wave (me). If there's any place that might inspire Andie to leave with Duckie at the end of the night, it's here.

Yelp
went to this intimate little box for a folk pop show. like most i find the concept of a renovated historical building in which to while away the wee hours alluring; the reality is awkward if not impracticable (yes, this is a word. trust me). it's rather disturbing to go to a 21+ show & feel like you've been shoved in a closet with the a/v club. the "stage" was crammed into the far left corner with school auditorium style seating across the floor. only 25% of the seats actually had a view of the stage due to structural pillars & the placement of the stage. the floors are so bouncy that even the 80lb wraiths gliding by make your chair shake like a herd of heffalumphs are stampeding through the room. not sure if the acoustics are good or the singer's ethereal voice is so good she sounds better live than on CD. the tally: 1 star for keeping a piece of old pdx alive, 1 star for booking an incredible lesser known act, 1 star for being walking distance from Powells from here on known as "the mothership," -1 star for using ticketbastard, -1 star for making a lemon drop with bottled lemon juice [ew!].

Yelp
2,000's dance night was fun and the 80's dance nights have been fun as well. A friendly and upbeat environment to just have fun! I feel like they should keep mixing up the themed-nights to keep it fresh. It would be a blast to see a 2000's pop punk vs pop night as a lot of the crowd got more into the Killers etc. hits. Definitely a doable place for ladies nights.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Love to stop in every time in the area. Service is good, sometimes slow, but have always had pleasant service.

Yelp
I was not expecting such a fun time here. OMG. I think it was a $5 or $7 cover. This venue is kinda old, but whatever... when I heard the 80's music from the entryway I didn't care so much. I think we had to take 2 flights of stairs to get to the ballroom. It's a pretty big ass ballroom. There is a small bar, water station area (which was weirdly awesome because you don't see that everywhere) and the super big dance floor.. which had multiple big screens showing 80's music videos. So many people were dancing. If you have read the other reviews, some have mentioned that he floor bounces. I didn't really believe it until I simply stood on the dance floor and I was going up and down involuntarily. It was amazing! Especially after a few shots. I think the dance floor used is the floor gymnasts use for jumping and all that. The bouncy floor really was fun to dance to. Being a 90's baby, I felt kind of out of place as most of the clientele were older... maybe many were teenagers during the 80s? Either way, I was very impressed of how energetic this dance club could be and also had a feeling my mom would totally enjoy this. I had fun dancing to my favorite 80s songs and I was very tired at the end, lol. If you love 80s music, you definitely need to check this place out. It's huge, energetic, and full of great 80s music. Enjoy!

Yelp
A Review for the Saturday Night Nineties Night!!!!!! Visiting the Crystal Ballroom and Lola's Room was an historic treat. The 80's night in the Crystal Ballroom was incredible, like going to a dance party at the SF Fillmore, but I can't say the same for the 90's night in Lola's Room. The 90's night is like chaperoning your little sister's 1999 middle school dance party, while missing your own. Imagine a bunch of mediocre dressed 28 year girls enthusiastically dancing to: The Backstreet Boys, Brittany Spears, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, and "I'm a Barbie Girl in a Barbie World." While you're thinking, "Why the fuck is he playing the worst shit of the 90's!" My boyfriend and I stayed for two hours, and the best shit the dude played was some Biggie Smalls; I was surprised. I'm 34, and am old enough to recognize the good music that bloomed out of that awesome decade. So, if I attend a 90's night, I want to feel like I'm on the scene of Reality Bites, not the Bye Bye video!!! The 30+ year olds will most likely be expecting to hear some good 90's artists, like Nirvana, Portishead, Madonna's Vogue, The Cranberries, Sleater Kinney, Daft Punk, PJ Harvey, Deee Lite, Oasis, Blur!!!! I mean, how can you not play Blur's "Boys and Girls" song????!!!! Who ever that dj was, needs to call his dance night, "Your shitty 1999 Junior High School Dance Party That You Missed, Because it SUCKED ASS!" All you folks who were old enough to know what was good, do your self a favor and wait for 80's night.

Yelp
I came here for the afterparty at WWSRA to listen to some live music (one of the reps was in a band) and to enjoy some drinks. The place was packed, so of course it took a while to get our drinks. The prices were decent enough. I will have to return on a "normal" night to see how the service and food really is, but I would return for a good show next time I'm in the area.
