Iconic Dishes That Define Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"You know a dish is iconic when it has its own eating contest. Enter the lollipop wings from Great Sea in Albany Park, which has a wall dedicated to past participants. And once you’re face-to-wing with these crispy sweet and salty chicken lollipops, you’ll be thrust into a saucy frenzy. Who knows, you might even be possessed to beat the current record of 90." - nick allen, john ringor, adrian kane

This restaurant specialized on wings, which set it apart because they presented its wings in the style of lollipop with an Asian twist. The space is compact, but there are enough tables for dining and a bar facing the window. The decor is modest. The only thing that stands out is the colorful wall and the chicken emblem; otherwise, the place does not appear well-kept; the furniture is old and filthy. When I placed my order, there was an issue with communication with the cashier. I wanted to upgrade my white rice to fried rice for an additional $4. I was perplexed when she asked what kind, so I double-checked with her to be sure that if I choose shrimp, the price would still be same. I felt it was a wonderful deal when she gave me a head nod, but when I got my receipt, she charged me full amount. I'm annoyed because the cashier has no idea what she's doing. The meal arrived hot and timely. I can't wait to get started because it looked fantastic. The potstickers are golden brown and crunchy on the outside. The filling is so flavorful that it doesn't require a dipping sauce. The chicken is of reasonable size, however it contains almost no meat, only skin and cartilage. The sauce was average; it's just soy sauce, sugar, and a dash of vinegar with no spiciness when I requested medium spicy. The fried rice is adequate, and I appreciate that the shrimp are deveined. It appears to be moist, with mushy rice. In my humble opinion, upgrading the rice is not worth it. I had a mango smoothie for a beverage, and I was dissatisfied because it didn't appear to be created from real fruit, but rather from an artificial mango flavor syrup, and there were no toppings to customize the smoothie. All I could taste was pure sweetness. I had to toss it away because I simply cannot finish it. The staff's work ethics are questionable, with no one attending out front and everyone hiding in the kitchen, alongside no one bothering to wipe the tables or change the garbage, which is almost full to the brim. I'm not satisfied here, and this will be my first and last visit.

Wanted to try something new and I was very pleased with this place. The six piece was a good size for lunch. I ordered the fried rice as well which was too large for me. Next time I’m going for brown rice to enjoy more of the sauce with. I like spicy food and kept to the medium spice level which was very nice. The service was great and they made sure to explain everything to us.

This is literally my absolute favorite place EVER. If I could eat here everyday I totally would! The wings are super delicious. ALWAYS super fresh and crispy. The hot sauce is to die for. The shrimp, omg the shrimp is AMAZING. And let's not forget the customer service. Josh is the sweetest most courteous person I have encountered in the food industry. Whether it's over the phone or as soon as you walk in to the restaurant, he gives you a warm welcome. Please stay open forever!!!!! And no this review has not been “bought” some of y'all are just super rude and expect others to stoop to your level! I live 30 minutes away from this location and absolutely wish there was another one closer to me but I will happily make the drive any day!

Ordered 3x 6 piece lollipop chicken with white rice(obviously looks brownish) for pick up..missing 1 order of white rice and the rice we receieved we realized its most likely spoiled after taking in a few spoonfuls and it smells just like spoilled rice. Called in but the service person insisted its not spoiled blah blah saying they cooked it just this morning...after arguing for a bit offerred an alternate brown rice...why would we trust more rice options at this point? I was expecting a refund or at least a replacement full order for next time...not even sure if were gona be sick later...will not come back Update: Now night time for almost 1 hour now I'm having stomach ache and have gone to the restroom twice... I'm definitely reporting this establishment to the health department

Stopped here to check if out. The wings were spicy, but disgusting tasting. They looked unappetizing, came out slow, and were way overpriced. Highly do NOT recommend

If I could give it zero stars I would. Had a terrible experience with these guys yesterday and the employees did nothing about it. Called to place an order for pick up 45 minutes before they closed, showed up 10 minutes before and they locked it and walked away AS I approached the door. Knocked until someone had hesitantly come to tell me they’re closed despite the bright neon sign reading OPEN and their schedule on the front door indicating they don’t close for another 10 minutes. Anyways, I didn’t want to be sour about it so I left to cook dinner at home instead, but these people will never get my business again. May have just been one bad experience, but couldn’t standby without letting the people know how horribly they handled it. I recommend going elsewhere, foods actually trash…just look up how lollipop chicken is made lol
