Eat and Drink Your Way Around Virginia Beach | Eater

"An ice cream break is practically a must while visiting Virginia Beach. Lolly’s Creamery scoops classic flavors alongside a menu of limited releases. Winter brings specials like carrot cake, salted caramel with pieces of banana cake, and red velvet. Summer, on the other hand, is the time to indulge in the flavors of blueberry lemon bar and Key lime pie. Lolly’s has three locations across the city; two are open year-round, while the boardwalk shop closes for the offseason." - Travis Mitchell

"For cones with throwback style, head to Lolly’s Creamery. With multiple locations around town, this retro ice cream shop scoops up both classic flavors like strawberry and mint chocolate chip to monthly and limited releases. The wilder options include frosted animal cookie, cheesecake brookie (a mashup of cheesecake, brownie batter, and cookie dough) or bubblegum studded with mini Chiclets." - Adele Chapin

Google
If you love real, quality ice cream, this is not the place. The peach sorbet tastes and has the texture of a rough popsicle, the vanilla is smooth but tastes fake and the strawberry ice cream has barely and strawberry flavor, tastes more like cream. Not worth the hype. Staff is friendly though

Google
Rich and flavorful ice cream, friendly service. Loved the Puppy Chow, Cookie Monster, and Cookie and Biscoff!

Google
I am so glad I discovered this ice cream shop! It has definitely become a top favorite of mine in the area. They always feature unique monthly flavors that are absolutely delicious. My go-to is Cookie Monster, but I also love trying their seasonal options. I recently had the Mango Passion Sorbet featured in April, and it was so delicious and refreshing, especially on a hot day. I’m already anxiously awaiting the holidays in hopes that their Gingerbread flavor makes a comeback. It's my absolute favorite!

Google
If you like your ice cream hard textured, and freezer burnt with a Halo Top consistency—this will be your favorite ice cream. The flavor is meh but the texture of the ice cream truly ruins it. The place is cute but don’t waste your time (and hard earned money for a $9 cup of ice cream) if you’re looking for a creamy textured ice cream.

Google
Went yesterday to get a hot fudge sundae. The cost was $12 and I have to say for what I was given that was highway robbery! First off it was in a drinking plastic cup. It was messy and there was very little hot fudge. The taste was delicious but definitely NOT worth the cost, not even close. This explains why DQ was packed and this place had NO customers. Train staff on how to properly make a sundae. Explain the importance of ratios. A sundae should always come with whipped cream and a cherry. You charged my friend .75 for one cherry and that is shameful.

Google
Lolly’s was recommended to us from some friends that lived in Virginia Beach. Google has there open time at 3 pm. We waited all day for ice cream. When we got there the sign said open 12-10pm daily. I tried lemon Oreo. It was a good choice.

Google
I saw someone on IG asking people what the best ice cream in the 757 is, and I was shocked that like 85 percent of the people asked said Cold Stone. Are you flipping kidding me?? Lolly's has my vote. Their Cookie Monster is fantastic. I just tried a seasonal pumpkin flavor and a coffee + Biscoff flavor today, and they were positively delectable. Also, their sorbets. I don't gravitate toward sorbet, but the ones I've had here have been impressive, to say the very least (there was a Meyer lemon one this summer, omg, and their current apple cider flavor is a ~hella~ yes from me).

Google
Lolly’s Creamery located blocks away from Virginia Beach oceanfront is amazing! Lolly’s Creamery delivers excellent customer service and the ice cream is delicious ❣️😋 Lolly’s Creamery has great menu options. Just to mention a few menu items a course ice cream, milk shakes, banana splits, Lolly’s Ice Cream Cake, and more! This location is 414 Virginia Beach Boulevard.

Yelp
We had a refreshing moment at Lolly's Creamery's pretty aqua-color shop on 17th in The Vibe District. The chocolate ice cream was deeply rich. The mint chip was bright and brightly flavored with plenty of thin chocolate chips. The outdoor seating had some shade and a nice breeze. And you get a little mural on the side of Lolly's building, a view of a racecar wall-mural on the building next door, and a bright cartoony-mural on the next one! A sweet start to your self-guided mural tour of this artsy neighborhood!

Yelp
I door dashed a pint of the Cookie Monster ice cream and two waffle cones (kids were on the brink of bedtime) Everything was packaged nicely and the Cookie Monster was much better than expected after reading some of the reviews on here! Cookie dough and Oreos in every bite & the ice cream itself had a nice creamy texture. Definitely recommend! If I had one complaint, it would be that the pint wasn't filled completely to the top when you're paying a pretty price tag for it.

Yelp
I Tried the strawberry ice cream at their festival stand and liked it! The flavor was refreshingly fruity with a clear taste of real strawberries. It was on the sweeter side, but still very pleasant and satisfying on a warm day. A good treat if you're looking for something fresh and flavorful.

Yelp
Skip the chain ice cream shops on the boardwalk and come here instead. Ample parking. Freshly made waffle cones. Limited menu - more like craft ice cream. Friendly and patient staff. The candy cane cookies and cream ice cream was super unique, flavorful and well proportioned. Cute aesthetic. Tables with seats. Reasonably priced considering location and being a small business.

Yelp
Tuesday 8/13/2024 Came across this spot on yelp while looking for ice cream and decided to give it a try. Once I got there I saw they had only 6 different flavors and unfortunately for me those flavors had little interest from me but I had to get something so I got a regular cup of Cookie Monster for $7.95. The Cookie Monster flavor is vanilla ice cream with a mix of cookies n cream & cookie dough. The vanilla ice cream and cookies n cream were decent but I did not enjoy the cookie dough very much. Also The regular cup is supposed to come with 2 "large" scoops but the scoops looked more medium sized. Overall, my ice cream experience at Lolly's wasn't great due to the okay ice cream, limited flavors, and small portions for the price you pay but that's just me.
google avatar

Aaron A.

Yelp
Love Lolly's! Been here multiple times and to the other locations. They always have a rotation of flavors and a few staples. The Cookie Monster ice cream is my favorite and highly recommend if you like standard cookies and cream & cookie dough. Lolly's sauce is pretty good, too. If I remember correctly, it's a blend of caramel and fudge. Service is always quick, plenty of parking or places to park bicycles. All outdoor seating, and you order at a window.

Yelp
Great ice cream spot near the beach. The staff is always friendly and the ice cream is delicious. Overall vibe is typical for the area.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
The wait was too long, it appears they were understaffed and most of the family was underwhelmed with the variety. My daughter did get the Cookie Monster ice cream and said it was good. Overall it was decent, just not exactly what we expected.
google avatar

Yelp
It was busy, and ice cream was delicious. Staff was friendly and working hard! Stop by and let your mouth enjoy the vacation also.

Nikki H.

Yelp
Cookie Monster Ice Cream was amazing. Only issue is when I ordered on DoorDash they missed 2/3rds of my order.
google avatar

J David H.

Yelp
First time and impressed! Adequate parking and outdoor seating by picnic table in the parking lot. Staff was friendly on walk up order and the peanut butter cup variety was delivered with lightening speed. There is limited flavors, however it's small batch craft ice cream made locally. I enjoyed my cup at their outdoor seating. Only negative was debris in the area. Customers bring their pooches and that was cool to see. 4.5 rounding down with debris. I would recommend and definitely return.

Nicole L.

Yelp
Ice cream is bomb I had pineapple upside down cake it was truly amazing! A must go to!

Mary M.

Yelp
Some of the best ice cream I've had! Very friendly staff a nice area to sit outside. We had the Cookie Monster and golden Oreo fudge, which were both amazing.
google avatar

Miguel V.

Yelp
It's a typical ice cream shop that is a second location from the one near the oceanfront by the library. I liked it. The flavors are all pretty good, but I think there were a few less flavors than at the original location. Not a bad thing. Would recommend for ice cream in the future.

Brittany L.

Yelp
The outside is so cute and the ice cream is so tasty! It's a great place to visit in Virginia Beach!
google avatar

Ruby S.

Yelp
We love Lolly's! This location has added some awesome outdoor seating since my last visit! I recently went dairy free & Lolly's almost always has at least 1 vegan flavor. When we visited it was Pina colada sorbet. I wasn't in the mood for that flavor so I opted for a jollypop instead. It tastes like a fresh fruit popsicle! A litttllleee over priced in my opinion, around $6. My husband got cookie monster which I really feel like is a fan favorite! It's pretty blue color catches yours and your kids eyes! And it's filled with all the delicious cookie bits you can dream of. Lolly's is the perfect stop for ice cream after your beach day!
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
A cute little spot! There is only outside seating, and you also order outside. Something to keep in mind if you decide to come on a rainy day. The employees were very nice. The ice cream tasted so fresh, it was so good.
google avatar

Lennon K.

Yelp
Love local ice cream shops! Their few flavors made it easy to chose, and were delicious! I completely recommend coming here for those with a sweet tooth
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
THE BEST DESSERT AT THE OCEANFRONT! Hands down! Never disappoints. Cookie Monster is a family favorite for us. Everything is SO GOOD!
google avatar

Leah J.

Yelp
Lolly's is one of my favorite ice cream spots in the area. I tried their "special" flavor today which was the Nutella Oreo and it was absolutely delicious! The Oreo pieces paired with the chocolatey Nutella ice cream was perfection!!! This location is very dog friendly which I love and even though it was a bit cooler out, there was still an abundance of people there enjoying their ice cream. Definitely check this amazing ice cream spot out if you haven't and try the Nutella Oreo, you will not be disappointed.

Ambie B.

Yelp
I love going here with my friends and kids! Its awesome that they switch up the flavors to keep it interesting.
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
Cute storefront, decent amount of parking and outdoor tables, but I honestly wasn't blown away by the ice cream. Definitely a good spot to stop if you're in the area, but not something I would go out of my way for. I feel it's a bit overhyped.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
We stopped at Lolly's in VA beach after reading the reviews. Two of us had Cookie Monster and the chunks of cookies did not disappoint. The cone flavor and freshness was a little underwhelming but overall a good experience and would visit again!
google avatar

Stephanie W.

Yelp
Always a delight to enjoy ice cream from Lolly's! It always makes me wish I had this idea first, but then I remember I just love eating ice cream not making it. The owner of Lolly's must truly love not only eating ice cream but making it because every flavor I've had has been *chef's kiss* every time! Cookie Monster - Classic must-have! Neptune's Nutella Crunch - YES, YES, YES! Get it before it's gone! Sarah's Wedding Cake - you better say I DO! Mint chocolate chip - yuummmmmy!!
google avatar

Abby S.

Yelp
Had to visit this quaint ice cream shop today as they were doing a special: "free ice cream for anyone named Abby". That is I, so I had to stop by - with a friend also named Abby no doubt lol. The ice cream was tasty though they didn't have many flavors and NOTE they stop making milkshakes after 7 PM though they're open until 9. It's a nostalgic little spot down at the ocean front, bear in mind it's a stand and all seating is outdoors.
google avatar

Candice D.

Yelp
Wow! Stopped here on a whim after someone pissed me off. Funny thing is, karma hit immediately & my cone jumped right out of my hand on the ground. The employee was nice enough to make me another one for free. I ordered key lime pie and strawberry amaretto. Kids had Cookie Monster, red velvet and mint chip. Waffle cones were made fresh. Lets talk about the key lime pie bc honayyy, it makes you wanna slap yo mama. The chunkiness of the pie combined with the smoothness of the ice cream itself made me melt into my car seat like a toddler after playing in the park all day. Remember those days, worry free?! Anyway- all of the flavors were great, they offer free samples. That key lime was on another planet though. Also- they do rotate flavors so make sure you check out their website. Xoxo

Kaiayana F.

Yelp
The first time I tried mint chocolate chip, it was so creamy and delicious . There's not a flavor that wasn't delicious. I have to go tomorrow now lol.

Yelp
We are on vacation from Pittsburgh and came last night for ice cream. We asked a local where we should go to get ice cream and they said this was the place and there was no one else we should consider. We got three cones 2 cups of ice cream and a shake. Everybody loved it as you can see in the pictures. (especially my strawberry waffle cone) Thank you for a great experience! The service was great as young man working at the counter was very nice and we loved the atmosphere of sitting outside at the picnic tables. It was a cool night which was nice as well. Highly recommend if you want some good local ice cream!
google avatar

Joy E.

Yelp
Great ice cream and service. Had the cookie monster and it was fabulous. I like how the ice cream flavors change!
google avatar

Shane C.

Yelp
Great ice cream with plenty of parking. They have all the popular flavors plus seasonal choices to choose from. I highly recommend this on a hot summer day or any time of the season.

Kaleb M.

Yelp
Limited menu yet filled with great flavors. Cookie Monster was amazing. The service was great and it is very close to Virginia Beach
google avatar

Nina D.

Yelp
Loved the richness of flavor in every single bite. I got the coffee and Ube and was shocked at how good they each tasted. You order at the right window and pick up at the left window. Picnic tables available out front as well.
google avatar

Nathaniel K.

Yelp
First off their ice cream is one of the best in Virginia Beach. They have a small list of flavors, but every one is great. I just recently had the cookies and cream and the oatmeal cream pie with their Lali sauce. I don't know exactly what the sauce is but it is the best topping I could ask for. Their service is great and they serve the ice cream quick, even with a long line. They have a great outdoor seating area with benches and lights, so even when it gets dark out, you can still have a great time. And it even serves as a good thought. A spot honestly. Be sure to check out their social media as they are very engaging and sometimes have specials like name of the week wear depending on what your name is you can get a deal. So, be on the lookout.
google avatar

Ashlee A.

Yelp
What a sweet place! Quite a few customers, but not a long wait. Love the benches and tables out front. I've been to the town center location, so I was happily surprised to see the different flavors with the infamous Cookie Monster ice cream. Obviously that's exactly what I ordered and not, it did not disappoint. I'm not really a fan of cookie dough but there weren't too many pieces and the rest of the ice cream was absolutely delicious to include the waffle cone. Could taste the freshness!
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
We stopped here for ice cream for dessert. The line was long but I figured it meant it was that good. I do have to say I am not positive what was taking so long to scoop ice cream because there weren't many options. They had kid size to large. All come in a cup unless you order a waffle cone. Shortly after we got there it started sprinkling and then downpouring but no one left that line. After being soggy and ordering. My son ordered strawberry, my husband fish food and myself I ordered vegan Cookie Monster. They only had one vegan flavor.. but it was excellent! It was a very nice treat and we love supporting small businesses
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
Sure, you can get "ice cream" almost anywhere. Gas stations, hotdog stands, book stores. Sure, you can go to the beach. Commercial beach, private beach, a public beach that allows dogs. But what about a combination? And what if this ice cream stand was surrounded by businesses as eclectic as the flavors being served? Then you would have found Lolly's. The toppings, the new twist on old classics, the innovative creations that make them the Apple of ice cream. I loved the 50's front on this stand and it's open seating outside. This allows you to take in the neighborhood, see the ships off in the distance, and have your faithful furry family member by your side. I won't sway you on what to order, but I have to recommend a flight. You'll be mad at yourself if you leave only trying a single flavor. Also, a waffle cone. Try a few, then go big on one. Just do it. You're at the beach after all.

Yelp
Okay can I add an extra star? To all you Yelpers out there... I've had this spot on my watch this JUST IN CASE I was on that side of the water. We took a trip to Va Beach and passed this place. I told my husband, "We have to go there!" He thought I was crazy, it was a small building with a large parking lot. It had a area roped off with picnic tables. I looked up their Facebook page to see what their specials were as I always wanna try something unique. I got GRAVEL ROAD! I feel like I've been missing this ice cream my entire life. The love of chocolate and peanut butter is serious! It's like rocky road but with peanuts and peanut butter. My girls got the Frosted Animal Cookie.. another special. They loved it! I had to try it and it did not disappoint. They were quick and efficient. We asked for an extra cup and spoon so the girls could share and got that as well. We will definitely be back! If you are over there... GO!!!

Edward K.

Yelp
Tried Lolly's Creamery last night. Was in town visiting my family and they recommended Lolly's headed there with a group of 9. Very nice ice cream stand, efficient setup with one window to order and one to pickup. Not a huge amount of flavors but what they had was high quality! I had a sundae with s'mores and butter pecan ice cream. The Lolly's sauce combined caramel, chocolate, and marscapone. Absolutely awesome! Good portion. Workers were nice, we'll certainly be back!
google avatar

Christanne C.

Yelp
Haley was super helpful and friendly. Every flavor I had a sample of was delicious, so it was hard to settle on what flavors I wanted to commit to. We all ended up with a whole bunch of different flavors. I only ate a few scoops of mine because there was no shade, and my ice cream melted super quickly. Small lemon meringue. The chunks of crust were really good. 5 outta 5 Small cinnamon bun and waffle cone crunch. Both 5 outta 5 Regular banana Nutella pound cake with strawberry and a waffle cone on top. 3.75 outta 5. It wasn't a great mix Large coffee and Cookie Monster milkshake. 5 outta 5 Would recommend and would be back for new specials
google avatar

Caitie Z.

Yelp
My family stopped here for ice cream on a Friday at lunch time. It is a stand alone building with outdoor picnic tables for seating. They have a few flavors that are staples and then serve some small batch ice cream. I went with the Tonight Bro - chocolate and peanut butter with chunks of brownie and peanut butter pieces. I ordered a mini size which may have been part of the reason I had very few mix ins in my scoop. Otherwise, the ice cream was creamy and flavorful. I sampled the White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake and that was really good if you like fruit in your ice cream. My dad tried the vegan peanut butter oreo - not having vegan ice cream before, it was ok. We could not identify the peanut butter flavor. My husband had a chocolate/coffee milkshake which was nice and thick but creamy and drinkable. This place is a little pricey but nothing out of the ordinary for a creamery. People were coming and buying quarts which may have been the way to go, if you know what you like. Worth a stop to support a small business!
google avatar

Cristina Cici B.

Yelp
On a wet and windy day, why not roll up and get some ice cream? Who said you have to get ice cream only when the sun is shining? This place lives up to the hype. Sure, it is a little on the expensive side, but definitely worth the treat (and trip!) Rotating daily/weekly flavors, keep your eyes peeled on their Instagram page for what's coming up in the month to be sure not to miss your favorite special. The coffee flavor hit the spot; what's even better is the coffee used is local Three Ships coffee, which is local love at its best. The Cookie Monster flavor was great, the Mint Choc Chip was pretty standard, just waiting on that Ube flavor again, LOVE the purple stuff! 013/2020
google avatar

Lisa O.

Yelp
Lolly's is fresh and delicious. They come out with a list of specials for the month. I write it on my calendar and then go when my favorites pop up. I am trying a different ice cream every time I go. Visit 1/So far I got the cotton candy ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. The ice cream is fluffy and rich and this one is very colorful. I could imagine kids going WILD over it. It was a fun flavor and look. Visit 2/ I also got my favorite. Butter Pecan. Oh my! It was great.they are not holding back when they make their ice cream. This had Plenty and I mean Plenty of Pecans. It was so good. My only sad part is they don't sell pints. I like to get a cone and then buy a take home pint to take home for later. This review is short but sweet and Lolly's is worth trying. Oh and the small banana split is very big. If you like ice cream you will LOVE Lolly's
google avatar

Anushka M.

Yelp
I love this place!! So cute and the employees were so friendly and sweet. Came with my dog and they offered a pup cup (whipped cream) for free without even asking. All the flavors they have are unique and looked delicious, definitely made it hard to choose. I went with the Cookie Monster and Christmas cookies. Cookie Monster was delicious, loved that every bite gets the Oreo cookies. Christmas cookies was something I've never had before as an ice cream flavor but oh my goodness I loved it! Really tasted like Christmas I'm obsessed. My boyfriend got mint chip and Cookie Monster and added Lolly's sauce on top which is a mix of caramel, chocolate and mascarpone. Outdoor seating is available and this was the perfect treat on a great sunny day. Will definitely come back next time I'm in Virginia Beach!!
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
Butter Pecan: This was my first time trying this flavor and I wanted to try it out since it was seasonal. Pecan is my new favorite nut. The flavor kinda reminded me of coffee cake but with added pecan. I love how I'm ever single bite there was a pecan waiting to be consumed. The ice cream itself melted quickly in the scorching hot sun but all was gobbled up. I was craving ice cream and it's not a beach trip if you don't eat ice cream at least once. My only issue was that the ice cream was a bit too sweet for my taste but still satisfied my sweet tooth for the day! Blueberry Lemon Bar: Again too sweet for my sweet Asian mom. I really like the tangy and sour taste from the lemon bar that matched with the sweetness of the blueberry. The taste itself was "different and interesting" according to my mom. Wanted to come back to this place since I got the Cookie Monster ice cream last time and fell in love. My mom and I wanted to try their specials this time and we were not disappointed!

Yelp
On another drive to the Southside, my girlfriend and I decided to head over here to try ice cream from Lolly's. Last week, we headed to Blue Cow which received a thumbs up from both of us. So, why not make this an ice cream war??!! When we drove in the parking lot, there was only one person ahead of us which was perfect timing. I picked the Cookie Monster ice cream and she picked Coffee ice cream, both on waffle cones. Other than moments where we had melted ice cream drip on our clothes (I'm pretty sure everyone here had the same incidents occur), I can say we were both impressed. The Cookie Monster ice cream is cookies and cream, but dyed blue to mimic the famous Sesame Street character. With every taste, you can tell it was actual cookies there were incorporated. Very delicious!! My girlfriend's Coffee ice cream was equally good as well. We tasted coffee beans with every bite. Definitely homemade. So, who comes out victorious with the war between Blue Cow and Lolly's? Lolly's!!! Truly a unique place and since it's near the Oceanfront, you can definite walk toward the beach area on a good day. We will be back here soon.

Yelp
Words cannot accurately describe how good the ice cream from this place is. I had gotten a banana split the first time I went with vanilla, strawberry and Cookie Monster. As everyone mentions, the Cookie Monster is INSANELY delicious. I followed them on social media and when they advertised M&M&M, I had to go try it. I got a kid size which was a crazy amount of ice cream. Their waffle cones are fresh made and delicious and the atmosphere is pretty cool and close to the Oceanfront. I don't recommend parking in the back by the dumpster like I did though-I saw an army of Trash Pandas, easily subdued with a flashlight. Not their fault, just a fun (?) experience while at their original oceanfront location. I recently visited the Loehman's Plaza location for some Apple Pie ice cream and it should be noted they sell from an easy up and only have two sizes-Small and Large.

Yelp
Lovely little ice cream storefront in VA beach serving a delicious variety of ice creams, sundaes, shakes and always with a smile! Easy pull through parking area allows for quick pick up of orders, or parking should you wish to stay and enjoy your cold snack. A small outdoor seating area for customers waiting for their orders is available as well. Would be nice if it was covered or partially covered with some plants to make it a nice area to enjoy. Overall, I enjoyed my ice cream (I ordered the mint chip) the small is actually a medium in size- approx three scoops worth) Next time I'll try another flavor, or maybe a shake.. Who knows! So if you find yourself near the Vibe district and have a hankering for some delicious ice cream, check out Lollys

Yelp
Went to this location for the first time recently. (I have been a patron of Lolly's at the other locations.) Flavors and ice cream are great as usual. Visited spur of the moment and wished some of my favorite seasonal favors were available, but they were not. Everyone in our group liked what they picked. FYI: There's plent of space to sit or stand as you eat your food. Just be aware of cars pulling in if you have young kids running around.

Yelp
The girl wasn't exactly the nicest when we asked what was on the menu. Menu was signage on the left of the window (we walked over from the right, can't say it caught my eye!). Strawberry ice cream was good, had some ice crystals. Just trust me was a huge hit for my husband! Brownie chunks, pretzels, caramel-what's not to love? Price for a small was around $6
