Ten Authentic Tuscan Farmhouse Hotels

"In the heart of the spectacular Val d’Orcia, between Monticchiello and Pienza, this farmhouse hotel is a remarkably understated one, the better to let the surroundings shine. L’Olmo’s modest size — a mere one room and five suites — helps ensure the atmosphere is always relaxed, and the pleasures here are low-key indeed, from sampling the estate’s own olive oil to unguided walks in the picturesque Tuscan hills." - Mark Fedeli

"In the heart of the spectacular Val d’Orcia, between Monticchiello and Pienza, this farmhouse hotel is a remarkably understated one, the better to let the surroundings shine. L’Olmo’s modest size — a mere one room and five suites — helps ensure the atmosphere is always relaxed, and the pleasures here are low-key indeed, from sampling the estate’s own olive oil to unguided walks in the picturesque Tuscan hills or simply lounging in the gardens or by the pool. A small but lovely dining room serves three exquisitely local meals per day; the wine cellar’s collection spans all of Italy, with a local bias." - Tablet Hotels

We had the most amazing time in L'Olmo! Being my first time in this region and my wife being around some of the area, it was amazing to experience the entire area from a base, which typically you wouldn't want to leave.||The rooms were exceptional! The pool, amazing. The hotel/B&B I couldn't fault anything. Staff superb and knew what you needed when you needed it. Food wonderful. Just nothing bad to say about this hotel! Considering we have been fortunate to travel a lot of the world, then is in the top 3 hotels we have EVER stayed in.||Yes, it's not cheap, probably one of, if not the most expensive hotels in the area, but you are paying for what you get, exclusivity! There is no need to leave the hotel!! We did, to see the local area, Pienza, Monticchiello, Montepulciano and Siena! ||If you are thinking about Italy, Tuscanym stay here !!!

My wife and I spent five nights at the incredible L'Olmo hotel in early June. This was the first leg of a four leg trip to Italy and L'Olmo was our favorite place on the entire trip! The property is immaculate and incredibly maintained, our room was remarkable, the food was outstanding and the views of Val d'Orcia were simply stunning! Above all, the service was beyond compare - such personable and kind people, working so hard to take care of their clients! I can't say enough about how accommodating the staff was, as they went to great lengths to ensure we were completely taken care of on every front! L'Olmo is simply a magical place, that is beyond compare!! We will make L'Olmo home the next trip we take to Tuscany.

My wife and I stayed at L'Olmo for 5 nights. It was the absolute highlight of our Italy trip, with a stunning view of the Tuscan hills. L'Olmo is located in a prime location in Val D'Orcia, making seeing the sights of Tuscany very easy, whilst also being secluded and quiet enough to feel like you're tucked away in your own slice of heaven. The service was impeccable throughout our whole stay. We would happily return here!

Just stayed here for a couple of nights in July 2025 and now wish we had booked for longer. We stayed in the garden suite which was, as per the title, just fantastic!|This was probably the best and most relaxing, enjoyable stay we have had for many years.|The suite had a private patio and a stunning view of the rolling Tuscan hills. The bed was incredibly comfortable, as was the whole ambience of the suite, meeting all of our needs & more!|It was just a short walk across the garden to the serene pool, with wrap around gorgeous views.|The service was truly excellent; with such an intuitive approach making each guest feel very special at all times.|Our next leg of the trip was met by accommodation that was quite disappointing, so we contacted l'olmo to try to rebook, but they were fully booked. However, l'olmo took the trouble to recommend & liaise with alternative high standard accommodation nearby on our behalf, which were able to book instead; we were very impressed!|We would not hesitate to return to l'olmo and look forward to doing so in the not too distant future, and for a longer stay next time.

We just checked out of this amazing hotel after staying 2 nights/3 days. To say this place is wonderful is an understatement. We have stayed in nice accommodations in various places, but this charming hotel supersedes them all. Kind staff, clean, beautiful courtyards, inviting sitting rooms, a glorious pool, and majestic views made this place truly a magical experience.

The rooms were really comfy and the breakfast was delicious but we only stayed a night. Also the staff were kind and my children had a lot of fun.

This is our 17th stay at this very special inn. Located in the Val D’Orcia in Tuscany near Pienza this elegant small inn has the finest, friendliest staff we have ever encountered. The entire valley has been an UNESCO HERITAGE SITE. Beautiful countryside and long views. For us it’s heaven on earth.

Yelp
There are just certain hotels that you really don't ever want to leave , or (when you have to) you want to immediately book your next stay, and you almost want to keep it a closely-guarded secret. Podere L'Olmo is one of those places. A small hotel (fewer than 10 rooms) set in the gorgeous open rolling hills of the Val D'orcia, just south of Monticchiello. The place is just idyllic. The hotel has luxury amenities, a heated pool, its own small restaurant, and extremely comfortable, well-appointed rooms. The ground floor suites are just terrific. The hotel grounds are sizable enough to relax in peace and just watch the world go by if you choose. Views all around the valley, with Pienza perched on the hill nearby. But its also the perfect base for exploring Val D'orcia: a quick 10 minutes' drive to Pienza, 5 minutes to Monticchiello, and surrounding territory including hill towns and other attractions such as Bagno Vignoni. Montepulciano, Montalcino and other towns are short drives away. Your hosts treat you like you're family. Maybe the Royal Family. With only a handful of rooms, Giulia, Gabriella and Antony can lavish attention on their guests. And...they do! We had a great deal of fun just passing idle moments with them chatting, about local sights, Italy, and the world in general. Such wonderful people. They're great stewards and ambassadors for the local territory and can help you set up itineraries, reservations and day trips that will make your stay magical. We were there for 5 nights in late April and our stay was indeed magical. It's quite clear they receive many return guests who have fallen in love with L'Olmo. We'll be among those return guests, I promise you. But in the mean time....ssssssh! It's our secret!
