Lombardo's of Bay Ridge - Review - Bay Ridge - New York - The Infatuation

"A sit-down spot where you can only order whole pies, Lombardo’s feels very much like a cartoon Italian restaurant, checkered tablecloths and all. They serve whole pies in 12- and 18-inch varieties, as well as calzones and a handful of salads for those who like to consume leaves with their bread products. The crust here is thin, charred, and pleasantly chewy. We especially love the hot soppressata pie—which comes thoroughly drenched in Calabrian chilies and their requisite oils—and its foil, the bianca." - Carina Finn

We accidentally found this place today and thank God we did. Jackpot! Pizza is out of this world! Top quality! Sauce is fresh and flavor is amazing! Perfect menu. Very homey and cozy atmosphere! Super friendly staff. Manny is the Man! Thank you!

Google
Delicious vegan pizza and vegan calzone made with follow your heart / violife cheese!! Amazing owner and staff! My boyfriend and I come here consistently since soon after we opened and enjoy the food so much that we order enough to always bring home leftovers.

Google
Had a great time here with a couple of friends. The staff was very friendly and not pushy with any of the items on the menu. We ended up ordering a margarita pie with pepperoni and a small calzone. The calzone came first and even though it says on the menu it serves 2 people. That thing was huge!! Pretty sure it serves 3 people and it was so good. The pizza was perfect when it came to us. The crust was crispy and the pepperoni was delicious. Highly recommend this place to try out.

Off the hook. Best in Brooklyn maybe NYC. Small spot. Great staff. Loved our pizza and calzone. Prices are reasonable and servers were nice. Will be back again really soon.

Really enjoyed myself! This was my first time, love the dough and sauce. It's great that they also have vegan options, we had the spinach salad and the vegan pizza with mushrooms and vegan pepperoni, it was delicious! Staff was friendly and helpful. No kitchen here, so the menu is pizza and salad! Fresh, delicious and perfect!

Great pizza, nice small little place I went to after visiting fam in the area. Very glad we stopped for a bite. Had the artichoke and prosciutto pie.

Google
Authentic and cozy spot for really good pizza. Portion sizes are huge… come hungry! Margarita pizza and the calzone hit the spot. Service was excellent and very friendly with little ones. Definitely worth a visit!

Google
It was just simple chilling night with my friends at one of my friend’s place and the pizza was our late dinner (2nd round). Unfortunately I didn’t make the order so not sure what exact toppings they were, but I loooved the half portion with onions on it, and suspecting that there was truffle oil on the top of it too. It was awesome. update: the prosciutto e funghi is what I loved.

Yelp
Solid first experience. I've always wanted to try this place, but it's cash only, and I rarely have cash. Fortunately I did and decided to venture here. I ordered a Margherita pie/-it took about 15 minutes, which wasn't an issue-- there is ample outside seating. The pizza itself was great and well worth a visit. The only possible negative was two of the slices were a little harder than the rest, but otherwise, it was excellent. Hopefully in the near future, they start to allow card payment and add delivery device-- which would allow me to add this place to my regular rotation.

Yelp
Another winner here in Bay Ridge folks! Service is delightful and our waitresses are super friendly and sweet. Caesar salad is one of the best we've ever had. Instead of croutons, they use incredibly delicious homemade soft bread. Excellent touch here. Margarita pizza was outstanding! Absolutely lovely dining experience!

Yelp
The rating is not overhyped. I am impressed with how good this pie is. Then again, maybe I should not, being that the phone was off the hook with takeout orders and Barstool Sports came here and praised it. Needless to say, the staff knew about the latter and said to me, "Don't just take their word for it, make your own opinion!" No need to worry, I definitely will. First off, I arrived at 4:45 pm, 15 minutes prior to their official opening time. Due in part to the nasty and cold weather, the staff was nice enough to let me inside and sit at one of their tables. I would have waited the extra 15 minutes if I had to, but they took my order and told me to be patient as they were loaded with orders for pickup. One Margherita pie with half sausage for here, and a small calzone to go (their calzone is supposed to be amazing). Funny, I got a near identical order at Lucali. Is a trend in the works? While waiting, I could not help but hear, and appreciate, the 80's rock ballads that were being pumped through the sound system. I do not know; it adds a nice touch to hear something other than the modern day crap or the standards of yesteryear to try and make people feel they are in for a trendy, or more intimate experience. Roughly 30 minutes later, I am rewarded with a sharp and gorgeous looking pie. I took a bite and immediately knew this is something special, really special. The cheese and sauce are like a beautiful married couple. They taste timeless and I found the pie gets better with time, rather than the opposite of other pies I have tasted. The artisanal, wood-fired crust is great too. Some parts are slightly over cooked, but for the most part it is a great crust. The sausage is decent but did not blow me away. It did not add much to the pie, but it did not take much away from it. Despite it, I do not regret getting it on the pie. I polished off all but one slice of my pie. I would also like to point out the staff. They worked hard, and made sure I was taken care off. It was like going back in time to a period of the kind of character Bay Ridge once was, and hopefully can still retain a bottle of that kind of character. Thank you Lombardo's for a great pie and I hope to come back for more.

Yelp
We waited for 10m to be acknowledged for a table or even takeout. I am not a shy person, so I slowly advanced my presence going as far as starting to wave for attention. I consider that act rude, but it felt justified consider that I could only conclude we were being ignored on purpose. After all, nobody else in the restaurant was standing except for us and staff. And I'm sure they knew we weren't staff. So, we left without being able to speak to a single person.

Yelp
This is for pick-up only! Lombardo's has been a solid takeout option for when pizza cravings strike. And a specific type of pizza at that. This isn't your by-the-slice or bar pie pizza. This is for when you want thin, Neapolitan, coal oven pizza. I've had the classic margherita, prosciutto and funghi, and quattro stagioni. All very good on the night of and still great reheated the next day. Cash Only!!

Yelp
I've been on a tour for some of the best pizza in Brooklyn and Lombardosbayridge was a must try. It's not very fancy inside and kind of has an old school vibe too it. We opted for the traditional calzone and margarita pizza. The calzone comes out piping hot, topped w/ fresh basil and has 4 different kinds of cheeses. It's accompanied with a small portion of sauce to go with it. It's light, but crunchy at the same time. The margarita has a beautiful char to it and the pizza has absolutely zero flop. This one is made with fresh mozzarella versus a low moisture that would see in a more traditional New York slice. It's definitely a good pie and if you've never been you should definitely check out this gem.

Yelp
This is a special place. Excellent pizza and it's a dream restaurant of the owner. It's is a single room, with the oven and prep sharing the same place. It even looks like grandma's basement. Love it.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything was perfect Pizza was very good and so was the service. I would call for a reservation as it is a small restaurant but we'll worth it. Also very nice inside.

Yelp
Great pizza and meatballs. The honey and pepperoni pizza is the way to go. The pizza is fresh and made to order for you.
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
Definitely one of the top pizza places in Bayridge. Wish they delivered! Thank god they aren't a far walk!
google avatar

Nima L.

Yelp
The Pizza is extremely delicious. Just two things I was just a little annoyed about ... I really wanted to try their meatballs but they didn't have any that day and I wish I was informed it's cash only before we got seated cause my husband had to leave to run to the ATM ... Other than that the pizza was fantastic. The sauce was amazing , the pepperoni and honey mix combo was out it this world. Nice thin crust . Perfection . I will definitely return again and make sure we have cash this time :)

Yelp
I am so glad this restaurant is in the heart of bay ridge. I came to this location with another couple and it was a great double date spot. Great spot for conversation and ambiance is relaxed. You can only purchase pizza by the pie, so four people is the perfect amount of people to bring to try not just the pizza but a side dish as well. The portions are huge!! We purchased the calzone for two, and still had leftovers. Food came out fresh and hot, love it!!!!

Yelp
Brought my out of town family here for some NY pizza and it was a hit! The restaurant is so cute and quaint inside. This is definitely the place you want to get pizza from.

Yelp
Delicious food, beautiful atmosphere and friendly service! We went here with high expectations and left with them exceeding it!

Yelp
Easy to get, good price. Pretty alright pizza. I've had better. But hey. The price for the food is a good deal. Will pick up some when I'm craving for food.

Yelp
We had seen this in passing, and every time, my had to let me know that this was the pizza we were trying next. I am always willing to try a brick oven pizza, and Lombardo's itself is a name among the top pizza establishments. The decor itself is like going to a very old fashioned italian womans house, or a nonna's house in the country. Someone designed this interior with home in mind and a crackling fire in the stove. Waitresses were very attentive and made you feel very welcome to be here both inside and outside the restaurant. Now before I can even get to food, to do this in order, there are board games in the restaurant, so be ready to play. We played Trouble during the wait for our pie. And wait you will. While it is a bit long, the chef is personally preparing every single pizza that hits a table. Dedication that falls short at too many places nowadays. With patience this is easily a 5 star spot, but if you're looking for a quick slice at a counter, you might want to go up the block for it. The pizza itself is of the utmost quality. Every ingredient has its place and purpose. We had the prosciutto and arugula pie, and it was easily one of the best slices of pork I have had on pizza. The only knock I can give this at all is that our pie did not rest(due to demand) and therefore the cheese did not settle, therefore(if you know pizza) the toppings all come off together. Even if the pie hits your table immediately, I suggest drinking your wine and having conversation for a few before digging in. Will return again soon!

Yelp
Had the Traditional Margherita Pizza, the pizza i was looking for! a thin crust with a good chew, with the right portion of sauce to cheese to basil.

Yelp
I honestly don't know how long this place has been in this location but I never knew it existed until I saw it reviewed by that guy "one bite everybody knows the rule". Ordered a margarita pie, while carrying the box you could just smell the fresh ingredients, one of the best pies I've had in a while, no negatives to say at all. Highly recommended will be ordering from them again. Note - They're cash only and don't deliver but it is worth the trip if you aren't from the neighborhood.
google avatar

Alex T.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, and they must use good ingredients, can eat a whole pie to myself without getting any heartburn. Any other place I'm hurting after one slice. Friendly staff and the interior is very pretty. Would recommend for any occasion.

John h.

Yelp
I love the new owners of the place, kept the food quality exactly how we remember Go try them out. Best in Bay Ridge
google avatar

John N.

Yelp
Honestly, it's probably the best pizza I've eaten in my life or easily top 3. That's a BOLD statement especially from someone that has grown up around pizza his whole life in NYC. Everything is done right, sauce, cheese, thickness, chewiness, texture, ingredients, crust. There's not much else to say because the pizza speaks for itself. What a gem for South Brooklyn. Mic drop.
google avatar

Jake C.

Yelp
Calzones are amazing. Something you have to try! its unbelievable. By the summer their will be a line down the block every day before opening. So lucky to live a block away.

Yelp
My first taste of authentic, NY pizza and it did not disappoint. Hit this place up on a whim as it was cold and slightly rainy when we landed. I was first going to gamble and attempt to go to the famous Lucali's. But who wants to wait outside for pizza in the wet and cold and still may not get inside after it's all said and done? Looked up other spots and saw this one. Didn't even feel very optimistic that we would get in and get a seat but luckily it wasn't crowded as it was a Wednesday and had began to rain. Our waitress was so attentive and sweet. And we even began a wonderful conversation with a nice couple who advised us on transportation directions for our short visit. And let's not forget the food. Let me say that I loved the Cesar salad that we started off with. The pizza was just perfection. We split a pepperoni and margarita pizza as I no longer eat meat. However, Lombardo's offers vegan pepperoni! Good to know...
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
Pizza and salad were fresh and tasty. Love that there was a vegan option for those of us who have dairy sensitivity. Flavors were on point with their sauce and ingredients.

Yelp
Tucked away on a side street is this cozy little pizzeria and restaurant. They certainly did a great job making this place feel very intimate with the brick walls, wooden tables, and open oven area. There's a good amount of seating with mainly families and couples dining in. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive. I don't believe they sell by the slice here. The pies are made to order and come out piping hot topped with fresh basil. The margherita was tasty but the gian carlo was heavenly (our favorite) topped with those slightly thicker pepperoni cups that curl up and drizzled with a bit of honey. The slices were thin with a good crust to topping ratio. Just a heads up, they charge an extra fee if you decide to pay with card instead of cash.

Alison C.

Yelp
Wow. I can't believe that I'm just trying this place now. I've been missing out the whole time! We ordered the Prosciutto E Funghi (portobello mushrooms, Italian imported prosciutto, red onions and truffle). Such a delightful combination of ingredients, topped with fresh basil leaves. I can't wait to come back to try the Giancarlo (pepperoni and honey) which was highly recommended to us by the waitress. Lombardos is now added to my top favorites! You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Food: 4.5/5.0 Service: 3.0/5.0 Value: 4.0/5.0 Decor: 3.0/5.0 Overall: 4.5/5.0 Boy oh boy. This is the new 'best pizza' in Bay Ridge and possibly the best plain calzone in the city. No frills, no unnecessarily long menu - it's salad, pizza, and calzone. For lunch, you can get a panini, but I'd stick with pizza. Really incredible that this neighborhood got a spot like this. They don't have a lot of oven capacity so reject take-out orders during peak hours and don't deliver. EDIT: This review came a bit tardy, looks like they may not do lunch/paninis anymore (Jan 2019).

Yelp
Very good restaurant! Their pizza was very good and it is very good for a little spot in the heart of Bay Ridge! I definitely recommend going to Lombardo's of Bay Ridge! Here are some pictures for you guys to drool!

Yelp
Best calzone I've had in ages , found this place during 2020 , nice little hideaway off 3 Rd Ave with delicious food ! Staff lovely
google avatar

Marco H.

Yelp
I got Italiano pizza , it's really amazing , very thin not so doughy ,good amount of sausage! , love it
google avatar

Edgar T.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much on the inside and out but the pizza speaks for itself. It's not your typical $2.50 a slice pizza when watching football but much more of an exotic pizza. We didn't dine in and instead did a pickup. It's thin crust, well done and delicious. Around the bay ridge area, it supersedes any pizzeria in this zip code. Pay a little more for Lombardo's and you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
One of Brooklyn's heavyweights, Lombardo's of Bay Ridge is quickly establishing itself as one of the best in Brooklyn. I know that's hard to declare given the fact that there's so much competition in NYC but I put it up there with some of the best. The reason why is the immense contrast of flavors, quality of toppings and their artisanal crust. The pizza is it's own and the crust very light and airy, with a perfect level of char. It's not very thin but it's very crispy. The cheese is usually blended with a mix of good imported fresh mozzarella and shards of hard cheese. The biggest standout aside from their crust is the tomato sauce, which is naturally sweet and fruity and not pasty or sour. Totally recommend this place for the unique old-world Grandma style pizzas.

Laura R.

Yelp
Why did it take us so long to come here!? The pepperoni and honey pizza was just sensational!! Truly top 5 pizza I've ever had, perhaps the best in Bay Ridge! The crust was cooked to absolute perfection - both chewy and crispy, how do they do it?!? We'll be back to try more! Don't forget it's cash only, but there's plenty of ATMs a short walk away on 3rd.
google avatar

Elle L.

Yelp
Holy s**t are the only two words I can describe a pie at Lombardo's of Bay Ridge. The only sad part about this place is the fact that they should have a line out the door because the pizza is JUST THAT GOOD! Had a pie with half pepperoni that was literally to die for! Full of flavor and crispy to the bite. Proper precarious taken by all staff there which made us feel safe during the time of COVID. CANT WAIT TO GO BACK!!!!
google avatar

Monique L.

Yelp
Decor was dated. Annoying oldies music. Food was spot on! I'd give 5 stars if the decor and music was more updated. Pizza was delicious. Calzone was light and tasty! Salad was quite large. Large pie and salad feeds 3-4
google avatar

Fung T.

Yelp
Best place for quick vegan pizza. I really like the atmosphere. The staff is so nice. Love the pizza. Made fresh and it's vegan. Definitely my go to for vegan pizza.

Martin K.

Yelp
A sincere advise. Room for improvement. The food was good, delicious and no complaints there. But the service... not so much. Teenagers staff as servers, which I have nothing against, but their lack of manners and basic service etiquette is definitely a turn off to this cozy, family owned pizza restaurant. The kids (servers) are probably there for their part time and summer jobs, which they most likely don't give 2 cents about, but it would be nice if this family owned business explained and emphasized to their younger employees what makes a family business successful, and an overall great experience for a customer. Hint; courtesy, anticipation, hospitality. Basically, service etiquette. Done honestly and well, and you've got yourself a big tip along with a happy customer that will return, plus share their experience and recommend the place. As I wrote earlier, the food was good and I wish all the best to this small restaurant. I'll try again in a while.
google avatar

Diana T.

Yelp
Decor of the restaurant is pretty homely. You'll see a big brick oven on one side of the wall and bricks all around. I thought that was a nice touch especially with the 'oven brick' theme. Ordered a prosciutto pie and I personally thought it was a bit salty but it still tasted good nonetheless. The pie is enough for 2-3 people. Pomegranate Bruce Cost was pretty good. They also have board games on their shelves if you want to play some while waiting for your food. I thought that was pretty unique. I actually left my credit card here but they were nice enough to track me down on yelp just to inform me about it. Overall, I had a lovely experience and would definitely come back again. I'm already eyeing their calzones next! YUM! Update: Ordered a salad and felt that for the price of $9, it's not worth it to order it again as the portion for the salad is on the smaller side. The mark up for the salad is a bit too crazy. For $9, I can go to Manhattan and get a bigger salad with protein...! Update after the update: I went back a 3rd time and decided to try the salad again after receiving a feedback from the owner who said he is going to make the salad bigger due to others' feedback. I now have no complaints. I will definitely go back more often. I think the salad just made my day and I now get cravings for them.
google avatar

Erik T.

Yelp
I have eaten here several times now and have not been disappointed. Not even a Pandemic can take away from how good the food, especially the Pizza, really is. If you are a Pizza aficionado this is the spot for you. Not a huge place, seating is limited, but you can't go wrong here. There are only a few great Pizza places left in Brooklyn New York, Grimaldi's, Peppino's, Campania, and Now Lombardo's, which is as good (but quite possibly better) than all of the aforementioned. Well done!

Brendan R.

Yelp
Lombardos is now lil Frankie's pizza and it is open for business ! Great pizza and apps. Great atmosphere. Fast service. Give it a try!
google avatar

Joyce C.

Yelp
My husband and I shared a margherita pie. Pizza is tasty, kinda floppy at the center but once you get past that first bite, its a good foldable slice. Nice melty cheese. I think they sprinkle a little cheese on the crust too, so you get flavor to the last bite. $22 per margherita pie (8 medium slices). I've been on a salad kick lately, so I "needed" one, but to be honest I think you can save your $9. Let's be real you're not going to a brick oven pizza place for the salad. But if you must...my salad was over dressed, so I sent it back and asked them to add some more mixed greens. They were super nice about it and made me a new one with dressing on the side. Size of the salad is kind of small for $9, but it's not your average garden salad. (The one with apples is on the sweet side.) 5 out of 5 for decor. Very cute and cozy restaurant. 5 out of 5 for service. Overall a good addition to the neighborhood.
google avatar

Alison M.

Yelp
The best pizza in bay ridge hands down. Everything about this place is amazing and the owner is the nicest down to earth guy. Can't wait to dine again, take out for now.
google avatar

Dominic W.

Yelp
Was in the neighborhood and decided to look up the highest rated Pizzeria in the area. It was late and we decided to do a take out. Employees were polite and the place seemed very nice. We ended up ordering a Margarita pie. The Margarita smell great and looked even better. The sauce had enough taste and the basil was very predominant. I ended up giving 4 stars instead of five because I like my crust crispier. Will try to bring my wife the next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Denis N.

Yelp
It is without a doubt the best pizza I've ever had, and the restaurant smells amazing !
google avatar

Laura Y.

Yelp
The pizza is dope. The cheese is so perfectly creamy and flavorful without being overly salty. The sauce is perfect. The crust is chewy, and crispy perfection. The ratings are not overhyped. First time I saw the menu I though it was overpriced for this neighborhood- but good quality ingredients are expensive and you can't taste it. It's worth it.
google avatar

Mechket H.

Yelp
Omg !! I don't know why I don't order from here more often. Everything is absolutely fantastic : the dough , the sauce , the ricotta , the flavors , the staff , there's absolutely nothing to complain about ! I got the Pomodoro Rosso pizza which is perfect for anyone that is more into the dough and the sauce rather than the gooey cheese. The calzone on the other hand is cheese lovers heaven. I won't stress enough how much I recommend this place !!

Yelp
Lombardo's of Bay Ridge you are really terrific, I had a lovely experience here today. Truly enjoy the atmosphere and friendly service. All of the food items are excellent, their menu is fantastic, I really like their Caponata. The amazing people working there are highly attentive and helpful. Lombardo's of Bay Ridge - This is a hidden gem.

Yelp
Oh my God, Lombardo's of Bay Ridge was really excellent. First of all, the price is unbeatable. All of the menu items are magnificent, you have to really try Prosciutto Di Parma (imported) and Arugula Pizza. Friendly staff and great service. Every thing was delicious at Lombardo's of Bay Ridge. I would recommend it.
