The Best Coffee Shops and Cafes in Bend, Oregon | Eater Portland

"At Lone Pine, they’re purists focused on light, cheery, acidic, and bright coffee that their baristas meticulously prepare. One look at the description of beans tells it all, like the heartwood blend house espresso with hints of huckleberry, cacao, and cherry, or the Dark Roast Tin Pan Alley blend with chocolate cake, baked apple, and dried pineapple. Enjoy the housemade Liège waffle infused with maple syrup, washed down with the Coffee of the Moment or other typical espresso drinks. Lone Pine has two locations, with one near St. Charles Hospital, and the other is downtown with a roll-up wall for an indoor/outdoor feel, with cozy sofas and chairs." - Barb Gonzalez

Google
Hey guys, I’m giving you one star just to get your attention: your plant is screaming for help! Its leaves are covered with a thick layer of dust — it’s suffocating, turning yellow, and drying out from all the dirt. Please, for the love of all that’s green, wipe its leaves! Besides feeling sorry for the poor thing, it wasn’t exactly pleasant to sit under it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s infested with dust mites — the conditions are perfect for them. This is honestly cruel treatment of a living plant. Why have plants if no one takes care of them? For decoration? Well, it’s definitely not decorative anymore. If you and your staff are too busy, please hire someone who can come and look after the plants. Be kind — even to your greenery. P.S. The coffee is great, the pastries are delicious, and the atmosphere is lovely. But the plants… Please, save the plant!

Loved this place! Coffee was great! Toasted waffle was great! Server did a great job guiding our orders for the coffee experience we were after since their sizings are limited. Ordered a 12oz cappuccino and he suggested a foamy latte since they only do 6oz cappuccinos. I just went for the 6oz. It was perfect! 😋 Wish we had time to stay longer and have another. Will definitely returned on our next trip.

Google
Great coffee, fabulous vibes, brilliant staff. Super welcoming atmosphere with plenty of seating inside and out. Not too loud if you want to study, not too quiet if you’re there to chat with a friend. If you’re there to stay they have ceramic mugs instead of a take away cup. Def 10/10 recommend 💜🩵🩷

Google
Got an amazing cortado with beautiful art and texture. The beans I got I know are going to awesome since it’s roasted beautifully in house! My only issue was when I was getting a drip to go I was kind of given the stink-eye/ugh when asking for a splash of oat milk. It’s TOTALLY awesome that they make their own Cashew-Almond milk so makes perfect sense to not have oat! No big deal! I am sadly allergic to nuts though and just had a milk drink so I didn’t want to overdo it. As a barista myself I get it that oat is a trend & not always the best option for texture/taste. You just can’t shame people to their face about a preference choice.

Google
I'm not sure if this is one of those places that it's worth driving extra to find, but if you're in the area, it's definitely a good non-chain place to get coffee and hang out. They also roast their own beans there. I had the maple iced coffee and it was pretty darn tasty. My son had the cortado and said the same. Was anything home run out of the park special? The staff probably. But that's why I would say not a drive out of your way to go. But definitely a place to hang out if you're local and or in the area.

Google
Friendliest coffee in the city. If you are looking for a spot to post up or grab and go…THIS IS IT! Delicious. Lone Pine always delivers! the best coffee, pastries, 🫘 and beans. Highly recommend a bag of their Heartwood Blend ❤️ for enjoying coffee ☕️ in the morning at home.

Google
Coffee shop with a nice selection of baked goods, and a good atmosphere. The space also displays art work for sale from local artists.

Matt A.

Google
One of the best coffee shops in Bend! Super casual and relaxed atmosphere! Seats outside or inside. Usually they open up the garage door so lots of fresh air! Mix of people hanging and working on laptops. Nice snack options like avocado toast and pastries. If you purchase beans, you can get a free drip coffee

Yelp
We saw their great reviews, so we stopped by in the morning for some coffee. We decided on their seasonal latte which was an orgeat latte with their home-made almond cashew milk. The latte was amazing, S-tier for sure. The latte was smooth, complex, and was very enjoyable to drink. They had free sample pie crust cookies from Farmhouse Pies which were amazing! If we had more time we would have tried to make a stop at Farmhouse Pies to try some of their offerings. The service was good here. There was a decent amount of seating, with mild noise level. I really enjoyed the coffee here and would be back the next time I'm in town.

Yelp
To all NON-DAIRY drinkers, it's trickery, do not waste your money on it. Get their tea or an Americano and don't let it ruin your latte ‍ sorry I'm not sorry. Explanation below Vibes are great, service is awesome. Coffee - so I love a good coffee or house made alternative milk-. Lone pines House Made Almond- Cashew Milk is AWFUL. They baristas tell you it's so good. FALSE. It's water, it's not a latte, the "milk" doesn't froth at all, the coffee separates from it and it settles weird at the bottom of your cup. It's water that doesn't even taste right. I'd rather have an Americano. It's a waste of their employees time to make their alternative milk instead of purchasing a brand name soy/oat/almond milk. Thanks for the response Scott but I've given Lone Pine a chance 5 times with the same experience. There's plenty of alternative milk brands that offer clean options. :)

Yelp
Something about coffee and fall warms my heart. I had stopped by Lone Pine before a morning walk and their coffee just warms my soul. I also recommend you getting their waffle because that is freaking amazing. If ever you are in Bend, please make it a point to visit the place.
google avatar

Yelp
The seasonal hazelnut latte might've been my most favorite latte ever, with ground up hazelnuts giving it a fun texture and surprise. My husband said, hands down, it was the best chai he's ever had. Spicy, aromatic, just the right amount of sweet heat. So good we stopped here twice on our trip. Such a comfortable place with cozy seating, bright natural light, and beautiful plants, I can tell people love to sit here all day. Bonus, the wallpaper in the bathroom is perfection!
google avatar

Yelp
Keeping the rating because it's still a great place. Just a note to all- don't get the gf banana bread. It was dry and mostly flavorless. I assume the baker screwed up. It should have been thrown away.

Yelp
The drinks at Lone Pine Coffee Roaster are great!! We ordered the maple latte and chai latte - we found both the hot and cold versions delicious. The ambiance is amazing! we love their paints, flowers, and wooden tables. Good place to study and have a casual conversation :) The service was the best thing about this place! We had ordered the chai & maple without asking for iced and they were super accommodating! Would come again!
google avatar

Derek L.

Yelp
Great coffee and pastries that are absolutely insanely good! These might be some of the best pastries I've ever had. The waffle is almost like a lightly crispy glazed donut in waffle for and is delicious! Their almond croissant is one of the largest I've ever had and fantasticly tasty! Coffee is also delicious, staff are super friendly, service is fast and the inside is a super cozy. Would be a great spot downtown to grab a bite and coffee with friends or get a bit of work done! Would absolutely recommend a stop at Lone Pine downtown!
google avatar

Trinity C.

Yelp
Really cute cafe with an incredible ambiance! Perfect for doing work or studying! The service was friendly and the food came out fast. Ordered a matcha, cappuccino, chocolate chip cookie, avocado toast, and ham/cheese quiche. The only food item that I enjoyed was the cookie. The avocado toast was soggy and flavorless. The quiche was flavorless as well. The drinks were beautiful though and delicious! I think I just came on an off day for the food!
google avatar

Paul K.

Yelp
Another lone pine coffee sighting with excellent waffles that will sweeten your day with its fluffy goodness. The service was quick, simple and easy. Workers were diligently friendly. The vibe of the location was very warm with the wood style everywhere. Great place to check out.
google avatar

Alli G.

Yelp
Not a bad coffee spot! Prices were pretty good. 5.50 for an iced latte is awesome. Chocolate croissant was good too. They didn't have oat milk but instead had a homemade almond milk that I wasn't a fan of
google avatar

Nat J.

Yelp
Vibes, immaculate. Coffee, delicious. Ocean roll, out of this world good. Go to coffee spot for sure!
google avatar

Ziyan C.

Yelp
My friend picked up some pastries for breakfast and they were decent! Ocean Roll - 3 stars. Cardamon was great. A little on the hard side. Waffle - 3.5 stars. Lovely thickness and denseness. Shallot Scone - 3 stars. The pepper was interesting. A little dry.
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
Love coming here! Great atmosphere and delicious coffee! We are new to Bend and have already come here twice. Today we are enjoying chai tea lattes. The service is friendly and efficient. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Erika T.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop with good coffee! Ordered the Iced Vanilla Latte which wasn't overly sweet but had a bold taste. The inside was cozy and had a good amount of seats. Parking is easy to find as well. Loved the open door concept as it allowed a lot of sunlight in and some fresh air. Would definitely come again for coffee.
google avatar

Shayne S.

Yelp
Love this spot! Quickly become my go-to coffee in Bend. The staff are so friendly and the vibe is awesome. Plenty of space to work and awesome food as well. The coffee is the best in town. Bold without the bitterness.
google avatar

Elicia N.

Yelp
This place is so adorable, off the beaten path a bit around the downtown area. As soon as you walk up, you notice the beautiful greenery and trees, love the decor! Such a friendly spot, lots of wonderful seating even a cozy couch that is so inviting. Lots of people working inside, just love the energy. I got the mocha latte iced and it is delicious! Well done, great customer service warmth as well!
google avatar

Duc K.

Yelp
I love their Maple Latte! Staff were extremely generous and were very welcoming! We love the vibe and how cool the place was!
google avatar

Emily F.

Yelp
Such good coffee! Their specials were amazing and they had house made milk that was super fresh!

Ryan B.

Yelp
Con Panna! Not many coffee shops sell it. Fella whipped the cream right in front of us. So good! And the waffles are great. Just butter and sugar. Delicious!
google avatar

Jim A.

Yelp
Great space to sit and enjoy a coffee. The staff were friendly and interactive. But you're not here for that stuff; you're here for the liquid gold, the coffee. It's rare to find a place that serves a bold roast without even the slightest hint of bitterness. It was a great latte. If I lived in town, I would be a regular here.
google avatar

Liam W.

Yelp
This place is cute. Really good service and delicious coffee and treats! Busy - a great place to work and network.
google avatar

James E.

Yelp
For those that care, the no longer offer pour over coffee. Everything else is great. Food, coffee, service, the place is super nice
google avatar

Kenneth L.

Yelp
Great indoor and outdoor space to enjoy some coffee. Buy a bag of beans and get a 10oz drip coffee on the house! I also tried the belgian waffle, which was good. Wished I would heat it up a bit, but the waffle was overall a good snack to munch with my coffee. I really enjoyed the outdoor seating spaces underneath the trees. Parking on the street is also really easy (no meters).

Alis C.

Yelp
Such good coffee and service we came everyone morning while in town and order their coffee for home now. Don't forget a waffle'
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Yummy coffee, good tasting pastries and a great ambience to go with it! Would visit again if we were back in town.
google avatar

Mauro R.

Yelp
If you are a coffee lover, this is definitely the place to put on your list! The baristas are friendly and gave great recommendations. Everything I tried was absolutely out of this world! The location had plenty of seating options where you can enjoy your drink and pastries.

Chris S.

Yelp
First time was a decent experience with my daughter and her husband good pastry and coffee they did the ordering and the barista was pleasant. The second time my husband and I ordered the barista's were not very friendly the cold brew was just ok will not be going back.

Cooper A.

Yelp
They no longer serve food other than pastries. The barista was very rude and not welcoming. She treated my partner and I like we were stupid. Also, the almond/cashew blend was disgusting.
google avatar

Danielle N.

Yelp
Love this spot in downtown Bend. Ambiance is hard to beat. Lots of tables to study and cool plants. Friday and Saturday they are open late until 8. Pastries aren't very good, the pecan bar is dry. However the coffees are great, recommend the seasonal or maple latte.
google avatar

Bertha H.

Yelp
You don't need to squeeze raw cashew and oat milk from the teet of an exotic yak from Mount Everest every day for your coffee. In fact, the flavor of this mixture is too acidic and overpowering. Makes your coffee and thai tea taste sour and spoiled. Stop doing this. I beg you. As for the pastries, they were all very good esp. the bagels. Also the ambience is hip and cool. Bathrooms clean. Thx

Yelp
Comfortable and inviting setting, great atmosphere and pleasant service... Needed to get some work done and decided to have a cold espresso tonic on a 104 degree day in Bend. The drink was wonderful and the small waffle order was just sweet enough. WiFi is reliable and fast. Couldn't ask for a better place to kill a few hours.

Shannon W.

Yelp
Best matcha I've had in Bend so far! It's always hard to find real matcha that's not sweetened. My boyfriend also said this was the best cappuccino he's had in Bend so far as well. Definitely recommend and also super friendly staff! OH and the avocado toast was great too.
google avatar

Claire M.

Yelp
I immediately enjoyed the giant plant at the door, a big sage colored palm. I noticed how packed it was yet the volume of the music and the people, was very lovely for my early morning mood. I had a chewy and perfectly toasted sea salt bagel. I was told to get a waffle too, I am so happy I did, it's warmed up and has a nice sweet crunch and wonderful texture. I tried the house made almond cashew milk and I loved the viscosity, not too thick or grainy. Perfectly thin, nice moth feel of the mylk and my latte was the perfect temperature. I will be sure to return and recommend.
google avatar

Justine D.

Yelp
Mmm... great coffee and atmosphere for a really decent price. I got a 16 oz iced americano with added almond &orange blossom syrup (delicious) for only $3.50. Maybe it's because I'm coming from Seattle, but that is super cheap. Gorgeous interior with local artwork for sale and a ton of greenery. There is plenty of seating and street parking. Also has free WiFi and chill music for those that need to get some work done.
google avatar

Bri W.

Yelp
Coffee is great - my boyfriend enjoyed his espresso and I loved the caramel latte. It was the perfect level of not-too-sweet so the coffee could shine. The people working here are super nice, and the vibes are great!
google avatar

Jeremiah B.

Yelp
One of my favorites coffee houses in Bend, great atmosphere and great coffee. Close to downtown, kinda small inside so get there early, generally tough to find a seat.

A B.

Yelp
Americano was very good, no add ins required, and Gluten free choc chip cookie was delish!
google avatar

J F.

Yelp
Really good coffee in the shop and the beans for home! Nice bright sunny shop with tables and chairs for working or hanging out
google avatar

Binh T.

Yelp
We came back for more shrub drinks. Love the guava and finally this time we could get lychee flavor. So so so good :)
google avatar

Tammy W.

Yelp
Coffee was excellent - I had a vanilla bean latte and my friend had black coffee. Only reason I'm taking off a star is because I had to wait over 15 minutes for my drink. I totally understand being busy and if I had known it was going to take that long for a cafe drink [versus drip coffee], I would have ordered differently. I think when it's an unusually long wait, it's nice to let a customer know so they have that expectation or so they can order something easy and not have to wait as long. Otherwise, great spot. Indoor is super cute and staff was friendly. If I lived in Bend I'd probably come here a lot.

Desert H.

Yelp
Unfortunately, the owner decides what additions you can have in your coffee! He has an alternative "milk" you can add if you are looking for non-dairy, which some people love and I abhor. I have talked with him twice about this and he refuses to serve soy, almond, oat, or help milk alternatives. This is quite unfortunate because not only is this my closest coffee shop, I also really like the atmosphere. He also treated me poorly during both of our conversations .., instead of being kind and gracious to a customer he could lose, he was irritable and rude. Of course I have told all my friends....
google avatar

Molly I.

Yelp
Oh my gooosssh. Yes. Yes yes yes. Since it's not on the downtown strip you get a little more of a local vibe. Liege waffles are 10/10. Get two. Take one home. You're welcome. Husband had a chai - loved it. I had a half sweet bourbon something that was a seasonal. It was delectable.

Sophia E.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Great cozy yet open space, full of beautiful plants. The waffle is SO GOOD. You have to try it. The avocado toast was reasonably priced, perfect size, and very tasty. Coffee and chai was made to perfection with an amazing design on top, made by the tall curly haired guy. Such a great stop when in Bend!
google avatar

Kayleigh W.

Yelp
Biggest piece of advice = get the waffle! It's the best I've ever had it's got the flavor of a delicious honey croissant with the puffy flaky texture of a great waffle. The tea was served in a cute cast iron pot - it could have steeped a tad longer. My partner enjoyed the drip coffee (one Kenyan, one Guatemalan) both days we went. They've got fun local art for sale and lots of cozy seating.
google avatar

Natalie J.

Yelp
We arrived at about 7:25am on Monday morning, which seemed to be perfect timing because as we were waiting for our order a line formed that when out the door. Appears to be popular with locals. We ordered 2 Lattes , 2 Croissants, and a Cardamom Roll. Came to about $22. I tried the Maple Latte...it was mildly sweet which I really appreciated but the espresso lacked character. My husband expressed the exactly same sentiment of his plain Latte. Very decent yet average Lattes. The cardamom roll was really good. The Cashier said it was a favorite, and I see why. The croissant was good just a tab over baked. The space itself was cute, lively, green, and had plenty of seating. Overall, if you're a big fan of the big chain coffee shops, you'll really enjoy this place and it would like the change in scenery.

Yelp
So we revisited Lone Pine again this morning in spite of my first visit with the 3-4 lazy-Ladies behind the counter... AND WHAT A COMPLETE SURPRISE w 3-4 incredible men manning the place saying good morning and being bright eyed & cheerful! Hayden, Captain I'm sure took the helm by placing my order... HE & his crew EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS. And unlike the Lazy-Ladies.. He hand-delivered our amazing caramelized waffles, Golden Milk l, & tea with honey DIRECTLY to us OUTSIDE!! This should be the standard!! WE LOVE YOU GUYS For showing the Lazy-Ladies how customers deserve to be treated!!.. NO COMPETITION GENTLEMEN!!
google avatar

Craig Z.

Yelp
Outstanding coffee and well made drinks. I had both drip and an espresso drink (single origin cortado). They were each fantastic. I think the drip was an washed Guatemalan, but there was some confusion from the baristas. It was a very juicy brew with perfect acidity in my opinion, bright, but not too much so...not too tart. The espresso was a natural, which is a real treat because I don't see those often in New York. It was delicious, and the milk texture was on point. Servers were very nice, the place is great--very comfortable--and all the prices, including for bags of beans were a steal for this level of quality. After a float trip, going to this shop is the #1 thing I would do if I got back to bend.
google avatar

Eli F.

Yelp
An absolutely perfect coffeeshop to work in. Cozy with lots of comfortable seating. Definitely would recommend!
google avatar

Angie S.

Yelp
I was in Bend over the weekend and needed a quick coffee early one morning. Lone Pine was minutes from my Airbnb and open early. The place is really nice inside. High ceilings with lots of wood and plants makes it very inviting and calm. The staff at the register were extremely pleasant and welcoming. I ordered a maple latte and it was excellent. I will definitely go back next time I'm in town.
