Yelp
I saw the good reviews of this place here and on another site, and I couldn't wait to check this out. As a resident of Southern California, I may, or may not, be a total taco snob, but I was curious as to where this existed on the scale of authentic traditional to hipster fusion.
The interior design is rustic. I sat at the bar, but you may want to consider sitting outside. They have sidewalk patio seating that looks wonderful during good weather. The inside was noisy, but it was expected -- full seating and very busy.
The menu here is very extensive. They have a full drink menu, with many combinations that are unique to this location, as well as a long list of tacos and nachos here.
The menu here as of August 2022 has an extensive list of eight different tacos, chips with four different accompanimants (salsa, chile con queso, guacamole, and chile con carne), two sides (beans/rice and jalapenos), and twelve difference plates. You can get a west coast baja fish taco here, street corn (elote), salads, tostadas, wings, and tacos made from beef, pork, avocado, and chorizo.
They also have a specialty drink menu, and a separate menu just for brunch.
I tried the carnitas taco, as well as the beef birria taco, and the Mexico City margarita, as well as a Michelada (with my choice of Pacifico beer).
The carnitas taco was the best thing I had here. Juicy, flavorful, and although small for $5 each, had great flavor and texture. The Birria beef taco was a disappointment - birria is a very big trend in the culinary world, and the consumme is usually deeply flavorful, from the simmering beef fat and beef boullion. This one just tasted like water. It was very disappointing, and although it looked good, it lacked any flavor.
The "Mexico City Margarita" was more like a gimlet - lime juice and tequila. It was tart, but I like that. The "michelada" wasn't made in the traditional style - it was just a cup of ice with some tomato juice in it, no spice, and then they handed me a bottle of beer. The beer in the ice watered the entire drink down and wasn't as consistent or mixed as a usual michelada.
This is a great addition to the local restaurants in Cambridge, but they do need some improvement. I can't wait to come back and see what they have changed towards making a better food and drink product overall.
