The Best Restaurants in East Cambridge | Eater Boston

"Lone Star provides a great late-night option in East Cambridge, open until midnight each night. It also offers all-day brunch — order the tres leches French toast with the breakfast tacos. (You can also never go wrong with an order of queso.)" - Karen Wilber

Best Boston Neighborhood Restaurants Open Daily | Eater Boston

"Lone Star, with locations in Cambridge and Allston, features Mexican street food by way of Texas and California — plenty of tacos (try the chorizo fundido or the Dallas spicy beef), plus Frito pie, grilled street corn, and more. Going for brunch, served 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily? Don’t miss the jalapeno corn cakes. Both locations open at 11 a.m. daily and close at midnight (Cambridge) or 1 a.m. (Allston)." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

My husband and I went to Lone Star Taco Bar for the first time tonight. The service was quick, friendly, and efficient! Our waiter answered all our questions and took great care of me with my food allergies! I felt totally safe!! The food was packed with so much flavor and everything just melts in your mouth! The guacamole was literally the best I’ve ever had in my life and the tacos were flavorful and fresh!! We wanted to try one of everything so we will definitely be back. The ambiance is welcoming and I loved the decor. 10/10 stars!!

Google
Great experience all around!! Food was delicious (try any taco, literally!!!) Paulo, behind the bar, was beyond courteous, pointed me the right direction when ordering and always approached with a friendly smile. Highly highly recommend! Don’t walk, run to this joint for some banging eats and drinks!

Google
Lone Star Goes A Long Way Cambridge edition of LSTB consistently carries its weight- hand made, freshly prepared tacos from the all-day menu are the raison d’être. That said, options abound (plates, tostadas, tortas) so there’s ample variety. The Street Corn is a keeper.. Limited beer options but does offer a rotating tap ticks it down a notch, but apart from that, it is easy to become a regular!

Google
Really middling food. Would not come here again, not because it wasn't good, but mostly because there was nothing good or memorable about this place. It was just a place. We ordered nachos, tacos, and a tostada. The nachos was the last thing to come out, when clearly thats an appetizer. The nachos were okay, the cheese was congealed on top which was not the greatest and too much coleslaw. The tacos were adequate. It was food. Nothing truly to talk about. The tostada was alright. The food was cheap which was nice. But yeah this place is just perfectly average.

Google
The food was delicious! Mushroom asada tacos are a must try, the tostada was also good. The Guacamole was the low point amongst the dishes we ordered. Unfortunately the service isn't the same, there was one person working through the bar and he was also greeting the customers was very unfriendly. The other service staff were good.

My cat Nox LOVES bread. It’s her favorite human food to steal, and she’s extremely photogenic, so she gets away with it too. Let’s get down to brass tax. While El Cruncho Supremo may indeed be El, it isn’t truly so Cruncho, nor is it particularly Supremo. But it IS wrapped in tortilla, and tortilla is made out of dough, and dough is what a small photogenic cat like Noxler is after. She is a mathematician insofar as the cube theory of food applies (e.g. “is a pizza technically an open faced sandwich”), and she excels at the equation because her answer is “I will eat that bread while you are not paying attention”. Now Omelette (my dog), she couldn’t give a damn. Cruncho or Notto, she is concerned with the proverbial Bread of Sleep, on the couch particularly, which is a couch that “belongs” to me only in a hypothetical sense (though I did pay American Dollars for it) because she spends most of her time on it (and time, as we all know, is money) so in reality SHE is the true owner of the couch, at least in a broadly financial sense if you squint your eyes. Or not, I don’t know, I was just kinda zoning out while eating the Cruncho Supremo. It’s an alright sandwich. Or dumpling. I don’t know, apply the cube theory of food to it and see what sticks. Don’t expect too much Crunch nor that much Supreme. But DO expect an extremely cute little black cat with no tail (she was born without it) to muscle her big round eyes in front of you and stare, with malicious intent, at El. And if your question is “will she steal a bite when I’m not looking?” I would not recommend you or the dog lose any sleep over it. She will.

Google
This local joint has a special place in my heart. The people are very kind and diligent and the tacos are always out of this world delicious. Not to mention their margaritas are fire and the tequila selection is superb. What else can you ask for? I normally get a Lone Star Happy Meal to start the night right and the servers know a lot about the food and tequila options too

Google
Welcoming neighborhood taco bar. I had the fish taco and spicy beef taco with the Mexicano Margarita. The staff is fun and friendly but so are their patrons! Great to hang out or for a quick satisfying meal. Their tortilla chips are thick, hot and fresh.

Yelp
What a find! Cozy, laid back ambiance with excellent and friendly service. The food is unbelievably fresh and beautifully presented. The prices are super reasonable. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Growing up in Texas and recently moving to New England from Colorado I have been DYING to find some authentic Mexican food. This fits the bill and then some. We started with a large bowl a fresh guacamole and chile con queso, both of which were fantastic, especially because of the chips! The pictures don't do it justice because it was dark inside and I didn't want to use a flash but the nachos were unreal. So happy I ordered them and they're much bigger than it looks! We ordered several different street tacos to try. The pork carnitas came out on corn, also very delicious and the breakfast tacos you could get with or without chorizo. These are pictures without but they have an avocado crema which is just fabulous. I love the cute atmosphere. My only complaint is sitting near the window there is a mean draft that comes in and hits you on the back of your legs. It's enough that made it uncomfortable while we were sitting so I would say they could fix that but otherwise go early because they're popular and have limited seating! I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Cozy spot! Came at 10pm on a Wednesday and it wasn't too busy. Sat at the bar and received the menus quickly. Food came out fairly quickly but we didn't order too much. A bit pricey for a tacos. $5-$6 for one ‍ We ordered: Barbacoa tacos - DELICIOUS! Great flavor. Would get it again. Birria tacos - Quite bland. I think my expectation was higher after the barbacoa tacos. The consume lacked flavor. Carnita taco - Scale 1-5, would give it a 3. Hints of the flavor but could've use some salt. The tortilla could've been more crisp. Overall 3.5/5. Taco flavors weren't too bad but I think it was a bit pricey per taco. Service was great and the spot is cute. They open till 1AM so not a bad spot if everything else is closed.

Yelp
I've been here 3 times now and the first two times had me wanting to come back for more! Unfortunately, this most recent trip wasn't as good. The vibe is always fun and lively and the bar menu is great. We ordered the chips and queso ( and it was really good and had a spice kick). I ordered the grilled avocado taco and the mushroom taco. The avocado taco was okay but a little light in flavor and the mushroom chorizo taco was super super salty.

Yelp
Lone Star is a unique place in Cambridge... a hot-spot for happy hour, approachable and delicious ala carte menus, and a BANGIN' brunch option (if that's your thing). I've been here a number of times and each time I discover something new and interesting. They are constantly tweaking the menu and offering items that used to be "late night only" (such as the Frito/Taco Pie) to the regular menu. It's not fancy/upscale type of place but feels more like an upscale bar or dive that serves up great food, has a fantastic menu of libations, and will not leave you yearning for more or that you need to stop somewhere else for a 2nd meal. If I lived in a closer proximity, this would be one of my regular staples - however, when I'm in the area I can't say anything really bad about Lone Star. The prices per taco are pretty standard for the area, but if you are expecting an enormous serving size ala Chipotle or Anna's... this is not the place for you. They are the smaller taco shell but stuffed with high quality ingredients and toppings. Is it worth the price? Yes... unless you expect the 3# of tex-mex food plated for under $10/plate. However, if you are looking to create a meal that is varied and will satiate you at a reasonable cost this is the place for you!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious tacos! As a vegetarian, finding tacos that actually taste good can be difficult. I had both the Mushroom Asada and Grilled Avovado (with the queso option) and enjoyed them.
google avatar

Yelp
They have a pretty extensive drinks menu but we decided to stick with ordering food. For starters we got the shrimp ceviche ($11). The shrimp was good quality but the ceviche was mostly tomato and cucumber. I liked how the chips were fried fresh so they were hot and crispy. I tried the beef birria taco ($6.25) and the Baja fried fish taco ($6). The consomme that came with the birria was quite mild-- there wasn't any particular flavor that stood out and it wasn't very salty either. The birria taco had a lot of melted, stringy cheese which I enjoyed! I didn't find the birria meat particularly memorable. The Baja fried fish taco was ok. It came with an aioli and pickled cabbage, both of which had nice flavor, but the fish itself didn't have that much flavor. The breading was also very thick. The aioli was a little too sweet for my liking. My dining partner tried the chorizo ($5) and Veracruz fish ($6) tacos. He was a huge fan of the Veracruz fish taco but thought the chorizo was forgettable. The tacos come with tiny chunks of lime that are a little difficult to squeeze! For the size of the tacos I think the price is very reasonable because you get a pretty big portion of meat. I could see myself coming back to try their drinks but I wouldn't focus my visit on the food.

Yelp
Lone Star Taco Bar. Ordered the Beef barbacoa taco and fried chicken torta. Was ok, but not good enough to come back for. Ended up eating McDonalds after to fill up. The foods together totaled to about $24. Place was kinda loud, dim lighting and small.

Lucy Y.

Yelp
Tacos and queso were soooo delicious! Service was prompt and attentive too. Will be coming back!!

Tameka W.

Yelp
The restaurant wouldnt accept my request to have the guacamole on the side of my order of nacho. The manager Will said the kitchen was able to do so. Really?!
google avatar

Eugene W.

Yelp
I usually do not expect much from Boston area Mexican food, but this place was surprisingly good! Carnitas: Pork had a nice little bit of a crisp to it. Savory and tender. Birria: the consomme was good. The taco shell was nice and crispy. Really solid. Veracruz: this fish taco was also good, but not as much as the first two Chips: the chips had a nice crunch to them. I really like crunchy chips. We got queso and salsa to go along with it. Queso was great and salsa tasted like standard tomato salsa Service was good and it wasn't too crowded at lunch on a weekday. Prices are actually quite high for tacos, though. 3 tacos and some chips was not enough to fill me, and the tacos already cost between $5 and almost $7 each.

Yelp
Having a late lunch after our drive into town for a wedding out of towner party tonite. It is about 4pm. We each got a cocktail a sangria and a Lucha Libre. A tequila drink. I ordered a grilled avocado and Baja fish taco. My wife got pork carnitas. All very good and fresh. I finished with a Vera Cruz fish taco. That had a nice kick to it. Each taco was prepared for us and served right out of the kitchen. The place is great and we have been here before for brunch. We sat at the bar and the bartender was great. A good value for a quick bite and couple of drinks. We will return when in town. Mark & Nancy.

Yelp
In my opinion, this is one of the best Mexican spots in Cambridge. We started at the bar but then were moved to a table outside which was perfect. The service is so quick and friendly! The Lone Star Margarita never misses. My friend ordered the sangria and it was delicious. The guacamole was good but the way they served it was kinda skimpy. For $11 I feel like you should get a larger serving. The carnitas taco was flavorful and loaded which I loved. The Baja fish taco was so good and loaded with pickled onion. I genuinely cannot recommend the birria tacos more, they are so damn good I could have ten of these things. The Veracruz, Barbacoa, and chicken tostada were ordered by my friends and the only complaint was that the tostada was a bit smaller than anticipated. If you haven't come here before stop waiting!!! A must try.

Yelp
So happy this place is open late! The food is delicious and served up quickly and the service is on point.

Yelp
Great selection of tacos and margaritas. Excellent service. Pleasure to visit. Frito Pie was legit. Casual vibe.

Yelp
Found on search and glad did. Outstanding food. Staff is very attentive and food was outstanding. Will be back. Food was very rich with flavors and depth.

Frank S.

Yelp
Far way from Mexican taste , I order huevos Ranchero was terrible , you can have a good margarita but the food sucks
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
We are not from the area and were looking for a place to eat. While it is less restaurant, more a bar with some seating...but does it matter if the food is exceptional. Very good and authentic small plate tacos. We ordered a good amount of variety, and it was all delicious. We would recommend this for an authentic taste of real Tex-Mex, and the commercial rendition of the same.
google avatar

Vijay N.

Yelp
Hungry past 10 PM in Cambridge on a work trip and nothing could satisfy my craving like a vegetarian El Cruncho Supremo, which is a flavorful mix of beans, cheese and sauce on a crunchy tortilla shell wrapped in a soft tortilla. I ordered online and my order was ready by the time I walked over. There was plenty of outdoor seating, which is perfect for a warm summer evening. I hope to go back sometime with friends to try more Items and enjoy the vibe more.
google avatar

Yelp
Great tacos and Margs. Good service except the picnic tables outside can lead to some strange people combinations. Will go back every time I'm in that area of Cambridge.
google avatar

Ed H.

Yelp
I have given so much money to this place and they've shown that they are just terrible people. They wouldn't seat me in an empty restaurant. It was about to pour down rain. My friends were coming in 2 minutes and they said I had to wait. They couldn't even seat me as a single to order a drink until they got there. Weird rules, weird people. No humanity. Stay away.
google avatar

Yelp
I had a delicious takeout meal from here! Checked out some of the most popular tacos and some personal favorite items on the menu. I'd recommend those in the following order: - Baja Fried Fish: the best! - Carnitas Pork: hard to taste bad - Grilled Street Corn: might be too much mayo but very yummy! - Chips with Guaca: not amazing but good enough! - Chicken Quesadilla: quite small... somewhat flavorful - Beef Barbacoa: the ones we got had really dry meat, which is not ideal It's a great meal but I have to say it's a bit pricey for what I expected vs got. All portions are relatively small. We, as two big-stomach eaters (eats more than the average couple?), spent nearly $70 on food alone, and barely got full ... but satisfied the craving for Mexican food for sure! To save you some time on choosing delivery apps (yeah I noticed they're on almost every food delivery apps, as a person who happened to have all of them installed...) - choose any app! It seems to me that the menu item price is THE SAME across all apps, which is not always the case for some restaurant but I like it this way!
google avatar

Emma Y.

Yelp
The tacos and queso were great. I got the Barbacoa taco and Chile con queso. I ordered a Michelada and it came out wrong and then once I got the right drink it was just the worst Michelada I have ever had. I do live in California so I may be spoiled. I'd stick to the margaritas and the food which were phenomenal! Just got to know where to avoid disappointment!
google avatar

Adina S.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. It's a great casual spot for food/drinks with friends. They have a bunch of drink options to fit any preference. All the tacos I've tried have been delicious. The star of the show for me is the horchata drink and their margaritas are great too. Make sure to get there early because this place fills up fast and there aren't a ton of seats.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
I found this spot while traveling and, since it was walking distance from my hotel, decided to try it out. Place is decently strict on COVID precautions like wearing your masks if talking with staff (although we saw this not happen many times). They don't make you show proof of vaccination prior to entrance. Menus can be found in QR code at table/bar. The place was not busy at all. Only two other people at the bar so we sat there and opted for the Lone Star Happy Meal because why not? A beer, a tequila shot, and a shot of sangria. Beer and tequila were great. The sangria tasted like a sweet Bloody Mary which made me nauseous. We ordered the nachos to start. About 10-15 min later we see our bartender clock out, sit at the bar, and order food. Ok fine nbd there's a new bartender. It takes her about 15 min to come check on us which doesn't make sense bc they weren't busy. We ordered another round of drinks and I asked about our nachos. Since we ordered we saw multiple people, who ordered after us, receive their food. She checks on our order and says it was never entered and do we still want them? Uhm what? Yes I'm hungry! So the original bartender, who is currently eating/drinking at the bar, never put in our order? Ok fine. Stuff happens. But no apology! Not even from the manager who delivered our food. The new bartender did give a quick "sorry about the mix up" while she took away our finished plates. We still had to pay for the nachos, which is absurd considering they took 40 min to make when the place was dead. As a former bartender and server, this is not how I would treat a customer after an employee made a mistake.
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
Omg the Birria tacos I'm so upset I only ordered one, it is the most perfect combination of flavors of deliciousness in your mouth, please get some! Rum toddy is also delicious!

Yelp
I saw the good reviews of this place here and on another site, and I couldn't wait to check this out. As a resident of Southern California, I may, or may not, be a total taco snob, but I was curious as to where this existed on the scale of authentic traditional to hipster fusion. The interior design is rustic. I sat at the bar, but you may want to consider sitting outside. They have sidewalk patio seating that looks wonderful during good weather. The inside was noisy, but it was expected -- full seating and very busy. The menu here is very extensive. They have a full drink menu, with many combinations that are unique to this location, as well as a long list of tacos and nachos here. The menu here as of August 2022 has an extensive list of eight different tacos, chips with four different accompanimants (salsa, chile con queso, guacamole, and chile con carne), two sides (beans/rice and jalapenos), and twelve difference plates. You can get a west coast baja fish taco here, street corn (elote), salads, tostadas, wings, and tacos made from beef, pork, avocado, and chorizo. They also have a specialty drink menu, and a separate menu just for brunch. I tried the carnitas taco, as well as the beef birria taco, and the Mexico City margarita, as well as a Michelada (with my choice of Pacifico beer). The carnitas taco was the best thing I had here. Juicy, flavorful, and although small for $5 each, had great flavor and texture. The Birria beef taco was a disappointment - birria is a very big trend in the culinary world, and the consumme is usually deeply flavorful, from the simmering beef fat and beef boullion. This one just tasted like water. It was very disappointing, and although it looked good, it lacked any flavor. The "Mexico City Margarita" was more like a gimlet - lime juice and tequila. It was tart, but I like that. The "michelada" wasn't made in the traditional style - it was just a cup of ice with some tomato juice in it, no spice, and then they handed me a bottle of beer. The beer in the ice watered the entire drink down and wasn't as consistent or mixed as a usual michelada. This is a great addition to the local restaurants in Cambridge, but they do need some improvement. I can't wait to come back and see what they have changed towards making a better food and drink product overall.
google avatar

Allegra P.

Yelp
Ordered the crunch wrap to go and it was ready so quick! It was a nice sized portion for my modest dinner and I would order from there again. They had me go down the alley to the back door to pick up and I like that they diverted traffic.
google avatar

Tom V.

Yelp
I used to go here once a week. The last few times we're disappointing. 1st the draft beer tasted like the lines had not been cleaned in a long time. The beer was nearly flat. The tacos were bland and only one tortilla so it just fell apart. Service was good. It just is disappointing as it was real good at one time

David G.

Yelp
First time here. Didn't care for it. Portions were very small & food lacked taste/quality. Seems like more of a bar than an eatery. Not a drinker so can't review their drink menu. As far as a dining stop, there is no reason to go back here for us.
google avatar

Derek K.

Yelp
This place should not be in buisness. Lone star gets a 1 star. Barria tacos for 12-13$ comes with 2 tacos that were sawgy. Quac and chips were 12$ and the quesadillas were 13$ and it was a flattened and flat unacceptable for a the price you pay. I don't understand how companies stay open with this unbelievable. I hope I helped anyone avoid this place.
google avatar

Alee L.

Yelp
The place is small, tight and it was packed when I went for lunch. However, people came and went and seats opened up at a decent rate. Service was quick and no fuss. We placed our order in and the food came out pretty quick. Our guac and chips came out first and the chips were fried to order and a mouthful especially with the creamy guac on it. The guac is on the creamier side and I tend to be more of a purest when it comes to my guac. The tacos came next and my favorite one of the 3 we ordered was the carnitas taco. It was so flavorful and had a nice crisp to it. So good. Then the barbacoa, which was the next best. Not as top notch as the carnitas, it was still tasty and packed with flavor. The least favorite one, which I thought was going to be my favorite one was the baja fish. It was definitely the prettiest taco on the plate with its pickled red cabbage that was this amazing pink, it was so eye catching. I couldn't stop looking at it, however, when I took a bite of this taco, I got a mouthful fish water. It tasted extremely fishy as if it was soaked in its own fish juices and no salt went to absorb or any pepper was there to help eliminate the fishiness. Maybe it could have been the fact it was the last taco we ate and it should have been the first, since it sat for a while, no matter what it was a disappointment. And the pièce de résistance of the lunch was the Sonoran dog. I was excited to try this because it sounds so sinful with it being fried and bacon wrapped. It was definitely a sinful sucker and dangerously good. Get this dog if you come here. It's a bad boy with bark.

Yelp
While visiting the Boston area we decide on Taco Tuesday and found this little gem. Simply food fast and oh so good. Steven our server was awesome. Will return when every back in Boston.

Yelp
The doorman is quite possibly the best thing about this place. He was funny and congenial. Very poor service, otherwise- we were seated very quickly, but then our server never came around to take our drink or appetizer order. He wasn't any better during our meal. The tacos were just extremely average. I paired mine with a table Farmhouse Saison by Mystic Brewery. Lone Star has a very interesting looking mixed drink menu, and would be a good place to belly up to the bar and enjoy drinks in a lively atmosphere. Not great for large groups, I had to laugh at the group of eight squeezed together, hip to hip, outside on the patio. Sometimes you just can't invite all of your friends when you go out, y'know? Come see the doorman, stay for the drinks! Lone Star Taco Bar...
google avatar

Kimber M.

Yelp
Great taco spot they have outside sitting so you can enjoy the nice weather we're just hanging out. The tacos were delicious and the crab drinks were even better.

Joe R.

Yelp
The best tacos around. We can't get enough of the carnitas and the margs! Love the outdoor seating or sitting at the bar inside. Great vibe and always kind service. Go here!

Charles P.

Yelp
Had a great time last week. The bar was very very busy. Tito, the bartender took the slammed bar like a champ and kept up with everyone's order and with a smile on his face. The last 6 months I've gone less because of lack of service and a lot of grumpy bar staff. There seems to be life back in this bar. The fish tacos are always bomb. The drink menu seems a little improved and the drinks were great. Nice to see the bar back to the old days. :)
google avatar

Alexandra M.

Yelp
We ordered a lot of tacos to go, and we're confused by their marking system. Some that were the chicken had pink, some had yellow. If it's planned, a guide thrown in the bag would be appreciated. All of the radish came on the side, which confused us too, because it seemed like there was way too much. My veggie tacos were good, but the mushroom one was overly wet. The queso was great though.
google avatar

Alan S.

Yelp
Certainly not the most authentic spot for tacos, but hey, if we only prized authenticity of cuisine we would have never ended up with such wonders of the world as Gobhi Manchurian or General Tso's chicken (tofu for me). Great unassuming vibe with a surprisingly lively interior on this Eastern stretch of Cambridge Street, which hosts numerous hidden gems. Orzata cocktail was probably my highlight of the night. The vegetarian fried queso taco was great, roasted cauliflower one was superb. It had a melange of cumin and tomato salsa that actually reminded me a bit of sambar. Queso and chips was mediocre, and I will probably skip next time.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Amazing I love this place - delicious tacos and cocktails. A little more expensive than your typical taco stop but well worth the price. The restaurant doesn't have a sign outside (or maybe I missed it 100 times) and I had no idea where it was for the first year I lived in Boston...but I heard a lot about the restaurant by word of mouth! Really loved sitting outside on a summer day and enjoying the sun w dinner and drink. I came here once before a couple years ago and remember the inside feeling kind of dark and cramped. I much preferred their outdoor seating. Food I got the carnitas (a tad dry but good flavor), chorizo (good spice kick) and Veracruz fish (delicious!! Really loaded) tacos. Would definitely get the chorizo and fish again. Drink 1. It's not on the online menu!! But there was a citrusy strawberry + mezcal. Very smoky, really interesting flavor and would definitely get it again. 2. El Diablo margarita - spiced salt rim had a hint of sweet to it, but I wasn't really getting the kick from jalapeño and habañero 3. Blood moon? Also not on the online menu, but a sort of blood orange drink that didn't taste alcoholic. Was ok. Really liked my first drink and am going to try and figure out the components :)
google avatar

Isaiah T.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. The only thing is that it's a little too expensive for what you get. The place is kind of small but still cozy. I love the outside dining except the fact that you sit right in front of other people while eating. The food taste good. But just needs to drop a little bit in price.

Yelp
While I enjoyed the margaritas and tacos here, it wasn't the most friendly ambience and the COVID vigilance bordered on excessive. I don't think I have witnessed any other restaurant take COVID precautions to this level - yes, I know it's Cambridge, but I don't recall this vibe from their original Deep Ellum and Lone Star Taco locations in Allston. - The restaurant requires customers to walk *outside* of the restaurant (into the cold/drizzle), onto the sidewalk, and around the back to access the restroom --- instead of simply walking 5 paces from the table to the restroom inside. - Masks must be worn in every interaction with staff (okay, fine), but when our waiter approached us mid-bite he stood 6+ feed away behind plexiglass, almost as if this was his only resort because we weren't wearing masks. Yes, I understand wearing require masks in interactions with staff; but if staff is so vigilant, don't approach customers whilst they are mid-bite - give them a moment to put their masks back on. - There were printed placards on every table indicating masks were mandated at all times, including when patrons within the same party were speaking to one another at the table, with the only exception being actively drinking and eating, which is above and beyond current state guidance, particularly considering highest vax rates in country. Sure, the margaritas were enjoyable, but this place felt so high-maintenance. There are many other restaurants in Cambridge, Boston, and elsewhere that take COVID precautions seriously and don't constantly belabor and dramatize the point. So many restaurants are excited for patrons to return, and they conveyed a vibe (unintentional or not) that they felt they were doing us a favor for serving us.

Yelp
Delicious food and drinks always, but had a pretty bad service experience last weekend. We walked in later in the evening, there was plenty of seating available and we asked if we could sit at a table. They asked us to sit at the bar instead so we did, no problem. The bar was dirty and sticky and we had to ask to have it cleaned. Shortly after, some other people walked in and were sat at a table. We put in our food and drink orders. The first thing that came out was a side of rice and beans that I ordered. I was waiting to get my main dish because I wanted the rice and beans on the side but so much time went by that I started picking at it so it wouldn't get cold. Then my main dish came out, but my partner's tacos didn't. He just ordered 3 tacos, that's it. I was again waiting to eat my food, this time so we could eat together. Again, so much time went by that my food was getting cold so I started eating. The bartender didn't check on us in the meantime or let us know what was taking so long. Finally after what seemed like ages, my partner got his food. The whole time, both the bartenders/servers were preoccupied entertaining one person at the end of the bar, maybe a friend. They seemed completely uninterested in serving anyone else. If it weren't for the service that left such a bad taste in our mouth we would have liked to get another round of drinks, or dessert. Unfortunately the service left a lot to be desired, so we went somewhere else to end our night. A shame, since we love the food here. We'll think twice next time we're craving tacos.

Yelp
i don't know man. at first i wanted to chalk my disappointment up to being an east LA Mexican. but no. bc aside from their birria tacos, the food here missed at least 1-3 crucial components in every dish. lone star's food is like, a car built with an engine but it's missing a radio, cup holders, and an interior mirror. the tacos are okay. they're passable. they're tacos. but a fish taco with cabbage and only aioli (a mediterranean condiment, might i add)? no crema???no avocado!?? no limon??? no pico, even?!!!!!????! the food lacked major authenticity *and* innovation. you don't need to have both. but !goTDAM! - you gotta have one! anyway, the service is fine! they're super busy & like all restaurants during covid - understaffed, so you're gonna wait a bit between ordering. but, the service can't make up for the menu. if im gonna spend $100+ to leave hungry, at the very least, i'll go somewhere that has worthwhile tacos.

Yelp
The birria, barbecoa, and carnitas tacos were great, and so was the chicken tostada. Horchata drink was strong but still tasty. Only real miss here was the elote- didn't taste at all authentic and we didn't dig their overly creamy take on it. That and each taco being $6 (!) are the only things stopping this from being 5 stars. Still, it was overall a great time, and the service was good, and the food came out amazingly fast. Definitely plan to come back

Yelp
I REALLY liked it here. If you're looking for a small intimate spot, as I'd like to think that the entirety of the place seats 30 people (maybe 40), this is your PLACE. Absolutely wonderful tacos, and a menu that knows who it is. It's short and sweet, provides excellent options for what you would want from a taco bar with very good co-stars. Our table split the chips & guac, and the street corn. I'm not a big corn on the cob gal, but this was AWESOME. I only had a few bites, however the dressings on this cob were creamy, and delicious, comes with three pieces (but for some reason in my head I think we got four). The chips and guac were enjoyable - I don't remember fixating on the guac being anything wild, but the chips were excellent. For tacos I got the baja fish taco and the grilled avocado taco with griddled queso. The grilled avocado was okay, I don't recall thinking it was anything special, and did really get the taste of the queso - I'd try it again though with the tofu. Now the baja fish taco I would drive 45 minutes for. That baby was perfectly crisped, not greasy whatsoever, and the sauce was something spectacular (mango-habanero aioli). Overall, very cute spot, would undoubtedly return. Be sure to use the waitlist on yelp as it saved us 45 minutes of waiting.

Yelp
This is a tough review for me. I've eaten at person at Lone Star before several times when I used to live closer and it's been a 4, more often 5, star experience. This might be the first time I ever did delivery, and it was more like a 2 stars. If it had been my first time trying them, I don't think I would have ever wanted to try them again. It's been a while, but hopefully this was just a one off issue! My pictures are admittedly not great, but it was also hard to make this food look good. Everything with a tortilla was soggy, not just like steamed from being in foil and getting delivered, I'm talking soaked through and falling apart and/or lukewarm. Tostada was a mess and very difficult to eat, tacos were a little better but very eh. We were particularly excited to try the vegetarian "El Cruncho Supremo" aka the Crunchwrap supreme knock off, and it was a particular let down. I profusely love Taco Bell, but I normally would never argue it's better food than a place like Lone Star, which is several levels different/better (usually)...but Taco Bell blew Lone Star out of the water on this one. I could barely taste anything, possibly bc the way it's constructed you end up with a solid inch of just straight tortilla folds?? Surprised someone thought that would be enjoyable. The best thing we had in the meal were the chips, possibly bc we ate with them guac we made ourselves, bc we wanted to save a little $ and had avocados in the fridge...but it made for a particularly sad juxtaposition. Even the jalapeño corn cakes, which are one of my favorite things on the planet, were only ok bc they were cold. I would have though the food was delivered from an hour away, not a place that's a 15 min drive down the road. We had also ordered a veggie quesadilla, so maybe that would have been great, but we'll never know, bc they gave us a chicken one instead (despite entire order being vegetarian?) - thankfully we cut into it before we bit in. When I called back they apologized and refunded it, which I appreciated, but it was really frustrating given everything else. I'll go back in person some time once I'm fully vaccinated and I'm in the area. I still dream of brunches there with a spicy margarita, the elite, and piping hot corn cakes with a crispy tostada. I don't think I'll do delivery again though.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday for a quick bite. I expected it to be busy, but this place was PACKED. It was hard to find a place to stand while waiting. The restaurant is also on the smaller side. We were eventually sat at the bar. We ordered two beef barbacoa tacos and two carnitas pork, around $4 each. We didn't end up drinking, but there did seem to be your typical offering of tequila-based drinks (some in large sizes). The carnitas taco was the real stand-out, it was perfectly crispy and had a good punch of flavor. The barbacoa was ok. It was pretty spicy (they should warn you on the menu!). The texture was stringy and there was quite a lot of meat, so it was hard to eat elegantly. But let's be honest, that's what not tacos are for. We also ordered chips & guac ($10). It came with a biggg portion of freshly made tortilla chips. Guac portion was decent, but it was missing some lime and salt. Would definitely come back and have a deeper exploration on the menu.

Yelp
Refused to "refire" order when I picked it up on time and it was ice cold. Had me contact Grubhub and they offered me a refund because the restaurant was uncooperative with me about my order. Reheated the tacos with the defroster in the car. The tortillas weren't grilled and were really soggy. No utensils or napkins provided. Overall a bad experience. I know restaurants are going through a tough time right now but damn there's no excuse for this poor service.

Yelp
You cannot love tacos and frequent this spot. If you're in an area that has NO other Mexican food, I would still suggest making the meal at home. The only taco we even finished was the carnitas pork taco. Service: They were pretty packed on Cinco de Mayo, which is to be expected, so we chilled out around the corner until we were called. It took 15 minutes or so for a server to come to us and get our order, but otherwise they were all perfectly friendly and attentive. Tacos we bought: - Baja Fish: Bland and cold - Mushroom Chorizo: Tasted like actual dirt - Carnitas: Best of the bunch... which isn't saying much. Needed more flavor, more heat, just lacked any depth. - Chorizo: We weren't even sure what it was. It was so unrecognizable. Other items: - Margaritas: Tasted like salty soap. - Chips and Queso: Literally the best thing we ate... how? - Street Corn: Just hand me a jar of cheese with a side of corn please After seeing all of the reviews, I honestly want to know what you all had that we didn't. It was some of the worst Mexican food I've had in Boston. Which is saying a lot.
