Yelp
Ye Old Longfellows tavern. Technically, I'm pretty sure I've been coming here since I was in utero. My parents have been patrons here for over 20 years, and still continue to support this place as they're reaching retirement. Its 'the' meeting place before my dad's band plays a gig in Columbia Co. And now I can order my very own drink here as an adult! EXCELLENT.
This place is famous for its steaks, and additionally, the "cook your own steak" option. But let's cut the bullshit, and talk about the ultra-fresh salad bar.
Seriously. IT CANNOT BE BEAT. It is the first and last salad bar you'll ever want to visit.
First off: fresh rolls, which you (and I do) can toast on the open grill if you'd like. Why wouldn't you? Second, the salad offerings. Julienned pickled beets, sugar snap peas, sliced cukes, sunflower seeds, trashy yet tasty Reeser's macaroni salad, and blue cheese crumbles waiting to be dispersed. Those are just the highlights. And if you buy a steak or chicken dinner, you're allowed to clock in a few trips to the salad bar. Which you will, and no one will judge you.
A FEW DRAWBACKS (to be expected):
-the bartenders are easily overwhelmed when it's only "kind of" busy, and get a titch bitchy when you approach them at the bar. That's to be expected.
-It's a small town, and patrons will automatically know you're not from Scappoose when you walk into the bar and will continue to stare at you until you leave.
Oh well. Nothing a well-placed glare and a fixation on the salad bar and my whiskey can't fix.
