8 Nostalgic Spots Within An Hour's Drive Of NYC

"You’ll undoubtedly see several children with blue-stained lips while waiting in line at Longford’s, an ice cream shop on the posh main drag of Rye, New York. Longford’s infamous cookie monster ice cream is the scourge of toothbrushes after many a birthday party on this side of Westchester County. The blue vanilla ice cream is tastier than it looks, and the mint chip is perfect after a hot day riding the rickety Dragon Coaster, a ride that’s been ringing with shrieks of joy since 1929 at Playland, a historic amusement park nearby." - bryan kim, molly fitzpatrick, willa moore, will hartman

Longford's Ice Cream Review - Westchester - New York - The Infatuation

"You’ll undoubtedly see several children with blue-stained lips while waiting in line at Longford’s, an ice cream shop on the posh main drag of Rye, New York. Longford’s infamous cookie monster ice cream is the scourge of toothbrushes after many a birthday party on this side of Westchester County—and the blue vanilla ice cream is tastier than it looks. Longford’s has been churning cream since 1992, and while the rest of the flavors are pretty standard, this scoop shop is an ideal pit stop after riding the rickety Dragon Coaster at Playland, the historic waterfront amusement park nearby. On a hot day, their mint chip is refreshing and perfect." - Will Hartman

Google
Lonford’s Ice Cream. 🍦 We went with family after dinner in downtown Rye, NY. Great place for the whole family. Lots of various ice cream to choose from and sorbet. Downtown Rye is decorated beautifully for Christmas. Everybody loved their selections. Right off Main Street close to all the main restaurants.

Google
We bought a cookie monster, pistachio, cotton candy, and espresso nugget. The ice cream was flavorful and not overly sweet. There are also candy of all kinds. They provided samples and that was a good thing because who likes to get an ice cream flavor that you were debating about and not like it? Plus there are at least 10 to 20 wonderful flavors to choose from! Longford’s Ice Cream RYE is great and i would highly reccomend it to anybody!

Google
**min $10 to use credit cards ** Nice location, friendly staff, good variety and tasty of ice cream. I liked that they offered a sample to try before your purchase. I enjoyed the Graham Cracker, and Espresso Nugget. I didn’t like the min order amount before you can use a credit card.

Google
Their ice cream is delicious. I recently tried the pink tutu, which is cookie monster, but a little different for breast cancer awareness month. It's was so good! The service is always quick and efficient. I don't go too often, but it's a treat when I do.

Google
A cute ice cream parlor with a solid selection of flavors. The kids will love it. Ice cream lovers might not, though, depending on what you order. The vanilla based ice creams are not very strong. The plain vanilla, in fact, is very gummy. Almost like soft marshmallow. It's straight up poor. The cinnamon was a solid step up from that, but still weak. You start getting into the "good" range, or at least close to it, with the salted caramel. All three of these flavors were not refrigerated properly - they were too soft. There only thing that saved this place for me was the s'mores flavor, which showed that this place could do a rock solid, dark, dry chocolate. The base ice cream is top notch. My son thought there was too much marshmallow in it, but that's what you get when you order a flavor called s'mores. Our two regular portions set us back about $12.50, which isn't great value in my opinion, though we're near New York and I'm not too familiar with the area. You might think that price is fine, but the value was weak by Philly standards, at least.

Google
Thank you for being THE best. The staff, the environment, and THE ICE CREAM. (Please everyone floss.) You bring smiles to all!!

Customer from 1997 out of the small factory in Port Chester. This lil gem in Rye is to die for. Longford's Ice Cream is where your sweet dreams and sweet tooth come true.

Google
The BEST ice cream I had in a long time! Turns out if you finished an ice skating competition, you get free ice cream! So I got a free scoop of salted caramel and Oreo ice cream; new favorite flavor??!?!? The ice cream was not gummy or like a marshmallow at all. Perfectly creamy and smooth!

Yelp
my FAVORITE ice cream place. everyone is super sweet whenever I come in and they have amazing variety. they also make beautiful cakes. while this location is on the smaller size, they always take care of people with efficiency and have great service.

Yelp
I take my kids to the Longfords in Rye all the time & we love it! Great people & great ice-cream. Never disappoints.
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious flavors! There was a line out the door, but it moved very quickly. Very cute town area as well!
google avatar

Noel W.

Yelp
Fabulous! Been here many times before and tonight was no exception. The staff is tremendous and the ice cream...well, I think one of the best in Westchester. LOVE Bear Tracks- vanilla ice cream with praline pecans and heath bars, brownie dough and caramel. Yum! And the vanilla chip is also incredible!

Yelp
Sept 2023, the service was fast and the staff were friendly at the Rye, location. However, I am sorry to say that the ice cream we had was tasteless, boring with NO flavor. This is just my opinion. I ordered the small cup of Espresso Nugget and had them add a Wet Strawberry topping to it. OMG, when I looked at the topping on my ice cream I shrieked. It was gooey like jelly and disgusting tasting. I ended up wiping it off my ice cream and throwing it in the garbage. My friend ordered the Coffee Chunk ice cream, and she had them add Wet Nuts on-top. She told me her ice cream did not have a coffee taste to it, and she was right. I tasted her ice cream and it lacked any flavor. Honestly, I should just stick with going to Ben and Jerry's for ice cream because at least their ice cream is more flavorful. All and all, I doubt I will ever LongFord this ice cream again.

Yelp
Stopped by this place after looking for ice cream suggestions. It's a cute ice cream shop. Place is small and there is no seating but they do have benches outside. It seems like a popular place so it was busy. I ordered the Cookie Monster flavor and it was good! Liked that it was not super sweet. But I did find something in my ice cream so I had to go back into the store and let the staff know. The girl was very nice and offered to get me a new cone and apologized. The prices were ok and the flavor selection was small but they did have some cool flavors available. Overall it was a good place for ice cream.
google avatar

Colette H.

Yelp
This place is amazing, and oh so good! I've been here several times and I love the chocolate ice cream! It is so great! I love eating outside. They have a few seats available right outside the door. I love how you can try multiple flavors here, too. They have candy and cakes, as well. It's a great place. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I did the research to find out ingredients- not great! They use ingredients like corn syrup, dextrose, nonfat milk solids, guar, zanthan and cellulose gum, calcium sulfate, polysorbate, mononitrate, thiamine mononitrate, propylene glycol alginate, sodium benzoate, mono & diglycerides, cellulose gum, "natural flavors," artificial flavor, and others. That was disappointing. But, it's delicious! My favorite is pistachio ice cream & friendly service.

Marcus H.

Yelp
Every flavor I've had is delicious, but my favorite is Bear Tracks. The coffee ice cream is not to be missed either, and the chocolate caramel crackle is amazing. A definite treat on a warm day.

Hi P.

Yelp
The place was so dirty! Dropped and dried ice cream puddles everywhere. It takes time for so much ice cream to melt and dry, why not clean at times? And that was not all, there were dirty hand marks on the counter, on the door, everywhere. Did not feel sanitary and the people that worked there did not seem to keep sanitary standards either.

Yelp
Off the main street in Rye, this family-owned shop sells "own-made" ice cream in a variety of traditional and unique flavors. Despite the typical high school and college age scoopers, the service is fast, and they don't skimp on the scoops. The line was out the door on a summer Saturday night, yet it moved quickly. Though the shop itself is small, the 80s music and bright colors made for a lively ambience. Skip dessert at a local Rye restaurant and get your last sweet here.

Jessica L.

Yelp
Honestly I'm so torn! I love the ice cream but the service SUCKS!!!! The girls that work there always have a screw face almost like if me and the kids coming in were a bother! I hate coming to this one in Rye! There's one in Larchmont and the service is so much better! I think we will continue at the other establishment. Ambiance was definitely a no go!
google avatar

Andora Y.

Yelp
If I could give none would be so good. They don't want business. First I was told order has to make 2 days before and 3 days before they didn't wanted to take anymore to busy for birthday ice cake. Never come back here.

Yelp
Where do I begin with longfords. It's my safe place. It's where I go when I'm down, it's where I go when I'm glad. The young ladies in there know how to cheer me up, with a peppermint stick cone of course! Sometimes there are children in there, which is a bit of a downer. Yelling, laughing enjoying life, what's so great about life you little snot. The sundae board is underrated. I recommend the "mamaroneck" but I hate the gummy bears. What sane person would get gummy bears on ice cream, they get rock hard, I worry someone may chip a tooth due to the atrocity that is the gummy bear X ice cream fiasco.

Mia W.

Yelp
Said they close at 9pm or 10pm but it was closed at 8pm. super pissed i really wanted vanilla ice cream and hot fudge. not satisfied.
google avatar

Stephen B.

Yelp
Living in Rye, this is where you must go to for the best ice cream. Longford's is truly generational; young and old line up to buy their delicious products.

Victoria A.

Yelp
Rich, creamy, flavorful! You can find no better! I love the vanilla wit salted caramel, but all the flavors are terrific.
google avatar

Jing W.

Yelp
The cutest local ice cream store! I love all of their flavors and think we tried the raspberry and salted caramel flavors and it was SO YUMMY!! But we asked for sprinkles and somehow ended up with an ice cream cone that was 95% sprinkle and 5% ice cream :(
google avatar

Ethan C.

Yelp
Ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, they have it all, and at a fair price. There are also flavors that I would not even think existed. The shop is very small, and there is not any indoor seating, but it's not hard to find the open courtyard right next to the storefront.

Pamela C.

Yelp
Always a pleasure to visit Longford's with my grandchildren. Staff is always so patient while they decide what flavor they want!
google avatar

Carly G.

Yelp
hey y'all. This is the best ice cream in all of the world. No cap, all fax. The service is fast and the ice cream is fantastic! The employees are great, don't forget to tip them!!
google avatar

Panos H.

Yelp
The Best Ice Cream in Westchester - reminds me of my youth in New England! Creamy, rich and tasty spooonfuls.... the Coffee cholate combo is deadly good as "mocha" and the Staff keeps it moving an fun. We took home several quarts as well l. Blackraspberry is CRAZY good. Brrrrravo!!
google avatar

Jay O.

Yelp
Long line but for good reason as they have high quality ice cream, multiple topping options, and great variety. The Rye sundae with the wet walnuts and caramel is my favorite. Keep returning and highly recommend. Tip: order ahead via Yelp/grubhub and avoid the long line on busy weekend nights. You're welcome.

Gina S.

Yelp
So chaotic in here. All the girl workers were so rude and not helpful. Unorganized and not a clear ordering system

David T.

Yelp
Simply the best around! Think ice cream with real flavor! Yes, we travel 25 min for their ice cream. I mean chocolate should taste like chocolate, shouldn't it?
google avatar

Eileen G.

Yelp
Great ice cream cakes! Also love their Cookie Monster ice cream! Definitely a good dessert idea after dinner!
google avatar

Gary M.

Yelp
Place us the best. Ice cream is insane. Get the mud pie or gram slam. So delish. Place is a factory of awesomeness.
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
Longforfs is hands down the absolute best ice cream place to go to. None of their flavors are any different from other ice cream places, but man are they good. Whenever I go to longfords I always get chocolate ice cream and I'm never disappointed. Longfords is more like gelato than ice cream, which is honestly what makes it so good. It's more rich and creamy, and literally melts in your mouth. I'm not a huge fan of Ralph's and carvel is really just average. I would always pick longfords over both of them. You know you've got it figured out when you're a staple in a town like rye!
google avatar

Jim K.

Yelp
The BEST ice cream spot around. Longford's makes all of their own ice cream and every flavor I've ever tried - and there have been LOTS of visits - is excellent! Delicious old-fashioned ice cream parlor in a small Rye storefront, right around the corner from the main drag (Purchase Street). The scoopers are all local high school and college-age girls and they are attentive, polite and hard working. Very small, tight inside, with limited seating. There are three stools, a small round table that seats three - that's it inside. There's also a row of chairs outside on the left and right of the front door. The owner has a nut allergy so they have an entirely nut-free freezer case - pretty sure they were the first ones I ever saw do this - and dedicated scoops. They take great care to give folks a charming, old school experience. They also have a punchcard loyalty program. Buy 10 and get the card punched and the next one is on them. Lots of street parking for free and way more lot parking, at a small cost, if you can't easily find a spot. We're big fans and have been coming here for years!

Yelp
Yum yum yum yum yum! Best Ice cream in Westchester for sure. This hole-in-the-wall candy and Ice cream shop is the perfect place for a warm summer evening treat. Expect a line, but it moves quickly. The waffle cones are fresh, and the ice cream is creamy and delicious. It is homemade and the unique flavors excite Amy taste buds. I foresee many more trips in our near future (definitely worth the drive from Hartsdale - about 30 min).
google avatar

Summer F.

Yelp
Adorable little ice cream shop with a nice selection of unique flavors. This place reminds me of somewhere I would have gone as a kid in the 80's. With the black and white floor be bright colors everywhere, you feel happy the minute you walk in. I tried the s'mores and the Nutella chip ice creams. Both were good. The s'mores had a deep chocolate flavor and chunks of graham crackers and mini marshmallows. The Nutella chip had a light Nutella flavor with chocolate chips mixed in throughout. Price was about as expected. I would definitely come back!
google avatar

Darlene V.

Yelp
I ordered a s'mores ice cream and satisfied my summer craving. Real marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate mixed into chocolate ice cream. I've never tried anything like it. I'm a new fan.
google avatar

Nicole A.

Yelp
So annoyed. 9:14 as I'm typing this right now. My three friends and a couple just tried walking in and they're closed. They're supposed to be open until 9:30 - so pissed. You just lost some serious spenders.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
This is such a cute place and brings me back to my childhood! Tons of ice cream flavors and bulk candy on the side of the register. I had the chocolate in the m&m cone, so delish. Can't wait to try the rest of their flavors!
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
Excellent, fresh, creamy ice cream. I always get the cookie monster...the pieces of cookie in the ice cream soften to the perfect consistency. Not a lot of sitting room, this is more a place to grab ice cream and eat it outside or get it to go. Overpriced is my only complaint, for small little scoops. It's very similar to the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory in terms of price and layout.

Aidaris R.

Yelp
My family and I left bartaco and decided to skip their dessert and come here. WELL, it is absolutely worth it ! Yes it is a hole in the wall wheee parking isn't so bad. I must say, the ice cream actually TASTE soo soo good, it's well worth the line.
google avatar

Yelp
Two words can describe my experience at Longford's: Cultural Immersion. I have never felt more enmeshed into the culture of Westchester, NY than I did while in this ice cream parlor. Some of the flavors are named after local high schools and I felt like it was a staple of the community. I saw many locals of a variety of ages and enjoyed samples of many of their flavors. There also was a refrigerator filled with ice cream cakes. One thing of note was that they had a $10 minimum for paying with card. They did not only sell ice cream but also some non-food items and there were little machines where you put in a quarter and get a trinket in return. There was seating available for maybe like 8 people? I am not too positive. Overall, I liked seeing how involved in the community Longford's was and also trying the regular and unique flavors.
google avatar

Ash L.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVED the ice cream here! Great quality and so much variety. The cotton candy flavor was my all-time favorite. I even chose the cookie cone and it was so unique and delicious.
google avatar

Paola C.

Yelp
OMGOSH, such good icecream! It's a food-gasm in your mouth! Other than that amazing rave, there's a rather large variety of flavors, the place is always packed with people because the ice cream is soo good, and the place is rather small but those aren't complaints because the employees serve you quickly and even when the line's out the door you're still not waiting very long.

A H.

Yelp
Longfords is always the perfect ending for us. Doesn't matter what restaurant we have dinner at, we skip dessert and go straight to longfords. The kids always leave with a smile which makes our lives easier. Cookie Monster is a favorite.
google avatar

Rosa B.

Yelp
Delish! Super nice people and great flavors. The place was packed on a chilly Saturday night so people know where it's at. Even with being packed we were able to get served quickly. You must try the graham slam flavor! Only seating for about 4 people.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
Etherial.... So glad they opened up near me. The ice cream is simply amazing!!!Taste the difference and try this place
google avatar

Ian G.

Yelp
Looked up this place on google and once again google did not let me down! A nice article was written listing the top 10 ice cream shops in Westchester and this little gem was on the list. So I gave it a shot and I did not regret it! They had a nice selection of unique flavors that genuinely felt homemade and there's certainly no better ice cream than homemade ice cream!
google avatar

Caroline D.

Yelp
This is the best ice cream I've ever had. I eat lots of ice cream and none has ever come close to being as good as Longford's. Best ice cream out there. End of story.
google avatar

Randy S.

Yelp
The graham cracker ice cream and "Bear Tracks" flavor topped with their home made caramel = DIVINE. Packed with a bunch of annoying high school kids, but who cares if the ice cream tastes this damn good!
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
Thank goodness we skipped Carvel for this. Carvel has gone downhill quickly (at least by me in Charlotte), so we figured a change was in order. After having dinner at Tarry Lodge in Port Chester, we made the quick 10 minute trip to Rye to have Longford's. The line was out the door on a warm, Sunday night, which was a great sign. I got a scoop of something with caramel I think (it's been a few weeks so I can't remember exactly what it was called) with hot fudge. Then the girl that was serving me did something I have not had done for me in years. She put the sundae in a bigger cup so it didn't spill all over. Usually I have to ask for a bigger cup, but she was smart and went ahead and did it. Great service. That's knowing the product and the customer. Way to go! The ice cream was delicious. Creamy, rich, smooth, and cold. The hot fudge was awesome as well. We walked around Rye while eating it and it was just really nice. The ice cream hit the spot. Why no 5 stars then? There was nothing that was super amazing--the whipped cream was from a can, the ice cream is full of fake things, and there isn't an incredible view or something. Don't get me wrong, Longford's is delicious and I would absolutely come back if I was in the area.
google avatar

Mary-B G.

Yelp
Very RUDE EMPLOYEE I guess her Boyfriend or friend was more important that the customer or maybe she didn't like me since I was next and she decided to helped the Last guy that came in.

L P.

Yelp
Longford's is just simply the best creamiest ice cream I've ever had... ever.... Nothing else to say.

Kevin C.

Yelp
So good! Awesome shakes and ice cream. Always drifts of crowds throughout the day. Come by and wait out the line for a treat.
