The 38 Best Restaurants in Taipei | Eater

"Though Taipei may be known more for its soup-filled xiao long bao, thick-skinned steamed dumplings remain a staple of Taiwanese cuisine. Quick-serve canteens spread across the city dole out platters of hot dumplings filled with juicy, scallion-flecked meat to busy commuters and students. If it’s a question of atmosphere, nothing comes close to Dragon Inn, a Shandong restaurant frequented by denizens of the Linsen South Road area as well as political and business heavyweights. The ramshackle storefront and aged-wood interior could double as a setting for a kung fu flick. While Dragon Inn is famous for its generously stuffed dumplings (don’t forget a splash of dark vinegar and sesame oil in the soy dipping sauce), there’s also an unmissable spread of soy-braised seaweed, tofu, and a variety of meats at the chaotic front counter. This is family restaurant but look clean the taste is so good of the noodle and dumplings as well with the Taiwan beer. Recommended

This unassuming place serves one of the best dumplings that I have ever had in Taiwan. The dumpling skin was thick, chewy and moist… and the meat in it was delicious. I would definitely come back here again for the dumplings. There also seem to be many braised items available. I didn’t get to try them but I saw many customers ordering them. Will definitely want to come back here again to try them. But expect a long wait… but it’s really worth the wait.

I would give them five stars, it’s no.1 dumpling restaurant in my heart at Taipei. Their dishes and soup all tasted well and beef noodle also sweet and smooth, most impressive is that dumpling’s dough is thick and with chewy, stuffing still very juicy. If you come to Taiwan suggest you should come here to try it.

After a long day of hiking in the 7-Star Mountain, this restaurant turned out to be the best place to be, albeit the long line of waiting! The dumplings were as food as recommended. The little side dishes are delicious too. The famed Taiwan Beer is in the righteous place!!!

Best dumplings and lu wei in Taipei ever! The food was always served incredibly fast and consistently fresh. The dumplings are incredibly juicy, brimming with flavorful broth. You don't even need to dip them in soy sauce to experience that wonderful, fresh taste.

This is as much of a culinary experience as a cultural experience. First, the food will be different than what most non-Chinsse people are familair with. These are more "rural" Northern Chinese dishes which different than the Cantonese style dishes that are more prevalent in overseas restaurants. Second, the ambience is reminscent of an traditional tavern rather than an chic restaurant so expect the setting, decor, and service to be different as well. Neither of these things are bad - but know them going in to have a good time.

The noodles are average on the oily side. The price is fair considering the location. The large bowl is smaller than typical large elsewhere (NT$150) but is enough. I do like the ambiance and the name of the place, feeling it takes me back in time
